Fielders have won matches with death-defying catches, lightning-fast reflexes, and intelligent coordination. These are the top 5 catches this season that have impressed us with their athleticism, difficulty, and influence:

1. Rashid Khan vs Sunrisers Hyderabad

In a pivotal match against Sunrisers Hyderabad, Rashid Khan produced a match-winning moment by taking an incredible catch to send Travis Head back. Head, dangerous-looking, tried to flick a ball over square leg. Rashid, having initially misread the direction, ran back and sideways before adjusting his course halfway through his run. In a stunning turnaround, he hurled himself forward and was able to catch the ball inches above the ground. Due to Head's incendiary style, this exclusion was crucial—stopping him from establishing himself and turning the game in favor of Gujarat Titans.

An unbelievable catch 🤯

Rashid Khan pulls off a crazy catch to dismiss Travs Head on Prasidh Krishna bowl 🔥#SRHvsGT#GTvsSRH

pic.twitter.com/2Wnc0wNKI2
— Prakhar (@NEWSxCRICKET) May 2, 2025

2. Dewald Brevis vs Punjab Kings

In a closely fought match against PBKS , Dewald Brevis showed great calmness on the boundary rope. While a lofted shot was headed his way close to long-on, Brevis judged his leap to perfection, catching the ball in mid-air just within the ropes. Steadying his pace, he managed not to step over the boundary—a difficult art under pressure. His field sense converted what would have been a six into a wicket, changing the momentum in his team's favor.

WHAT. Fielding for CSK, he responded to a flat pull shot by diving horizontally through the air close to backward point. Completely outstretched, he clutched the ball with both hands in mid-air, a moment evoking Jonty Rhodes-era fielding. The ball came off the bat like a bullet, but Chameera reflexively held out his right hand and snatched it away clean. It was a demonstration of sheer reaction time and poise, taking out even the batter by surprise, and eliminating a crucial KKR batsman early in the innings.

Two Moments of Brilliance:
Russell smashed a 106m six off Starc.
Chameera took a sensational, all-time great IPL 2025 catch.#DCvsKKR #KKRvsDC

pic.twitter.com/2Qr7HivP2P
— FC Kavya Maran (@Kavya_Maran_SRH) April 29, 2025

5. In the 20th over of the match, Anukul Roy had glanced a Mitchell Starc ball over square leg, but Chameera's speed and agility proved to be the deciding factors.

Chameera, anticipating the ball, ran to his left and hurled himself sideways, stretching both arms to the limit. He managed to hold the catch in an incredible display of athleticism and left everyone at the stadium speechless.

Since it could restrict KKR's scoring chances in the last over, this remarkable catch might prove to be the difference-maker in the match. DC's captain, Axar Patel, won the toss and decided to bowl first. Along with this announcement, he also announced a change in the playing 11; Dushmantha Chameera has replaced Mohit Sharma. On the contrary, LSG decided to stay with the same winning team that won their last match, keeping to a similar lineup.

The change to bring Chameera into the playing XI may have raised some eyebrows in the first place, but this was clearly a tactical choice made by the DC management. It appears that after assessing the conditions of the game, the type of pitch, and analyses of the opposition, Chameera's entry into the playing XI makes sense.

Why Dushmantha Chameera Was Picked Over Mohit Sharma

The main reason for this change is the pitch at the Ekana Stadium. The pitch we have seen has supported fast bowlers throughout the season. The pitch has a lot of bounce and pace, and fast bowlers who can bowl fast have had some success. We could see Chameera's pace and bounce make this pitch a better fit for the playing XI and give some more firepower to DC's bowling lineup.

Also Read: IPL 2025: SRH vs MI Match 41 - A Head to Head breakdown

Another significant element was, in addition to Chameera's fine form, his strong record against LSG opener Nicholas Pooran. Chameera has dismissed Pooran three times in four innings in previous IPL encounters. Pooran has always struggled against fast bowlers bowling 140 km/h+ pretty comfortably, which Chameera most certainly does. With Delhi's profile against Pooran, they had an upper hand facilitating Chameera's addition. Moreover, Chameera has played at the Ekana Stadium, where he played for LSG in the 2022 season. Having played at home previously, Chameera will have a good sense of the pitch conditions and the environment in which he will be needing to execute his bowling plans.

Altogether, it was a logical and well-thought-out decision by Axar Patel and the Delhi Capitals to bring Chameera in for this match to give themselves the best chance to counter LSG's superb batting depth.

IPL 2024: Chameera replaces Atkinson for upcoming IPL

Atkinson, who has not featured in IPL before, has withdrawn from the TATA IPL 2024 with the English Cricket Board managing his schedule.

Reportedly Sri Lanka pacer Dushmantha Chameera has been named as a replacement for Gus Atkinson by Kolkata Knight Riders for their upcoming season in the Indian Premier League.

Chameera to replace Atkinson

As per an IPL statement, Chameera will join KKR at a reserve price of INR 50 Lakh. Arjuna de Silva, head of SLC’s medical advisory committee, confirmed that Chameera will be undergoing ankle surgery.

Also Read: India legend Sachin Tendulkar names the four favorites to win the T20 World Cup

Kasun Rajitha will fly to Australia from Sri Lanka as soon as possible

“The previous injuries were on the anterior part of the ankle, but this is in the calf. It’s a grade-two tear.” Rajitha was called up to the T20I squad for the home series against Sri Lanka in June but did not get a game. He then picked up a sole wicket in three outings for SLC Blues in the SLC Invitational League in August, which was his last T20 outing. His last international match, though, was the Test against Pakistan in July this year.

Meanwhile, Tymal Mills has replaced Reece Topley, who injured his left ankle, as a like-for-like in England’s squad. Chameera claimed 3 for 15 in a thumping win over UAE that has increased Sri Lanka’s chances of progression, but was unable to finish his spell after pulling up with a calf injury. It was later confirmed by Professor Arjuna de Silva, who oversees Sri Lanka’s medical operations, that Chameera would miss the Netherlands game, with his participation in the rest of the tournament in doubt.

There are also concerns over Danushka Gunathilaka, who missed the UAE game, and Pramod Madushan, with both due to go for scans on hamstring injuries, although Sri Lanka’s medical team are hopeful the latter’s is not too serious. The loss of Chameera and, potentially, Madushan is a blow after Sri Lanka’s bowlers dominated the match against UAE. Dismissing the opposition for 73 inside 18 overs. There remain concerns over the side’s batting after they collapsed from 117 for 3 in the 15th over to only post 152 for 8.

Also Read: AU vs IN, Warm Up match: IND wins by 6 runs!

Clouds over Sri Lankan side as their experienced pacer ruled out before decider match

Having also put up a poor batting performance against Namibia. Sri Lanka’s middle order go into the last match of the qualifying stage significantly short of runs. For coach Chris Silverwood, this may have something to do with the weather. The Australian joined the RCB ranks in late 2019 and was at the helm during the first leg of the IPL earlier this year.
Mike Hesson, director of cricket operations at the franchise, will take over for the remainder of the IPL, which begins in the UAE next month.

Royal Challengers Bangalore on Saturday announced that their head coach Simon Katich has stepped down due to personal reasons in the lead up to the resumption of Indian Premier League 2021. The IPL will resume from September 19 in the UAE.
Confirming Katich’s exit, Rajesh Menon, vice-president, and head, RCB, said on Saturday: “Simon Katich has decided to step down mainly due to personal reasons. We as management completely support his decision. We would like to thank him for his work at RCB and wish him all the success for the future. As per the (franchise’s) business continuity plan, Mike Hesson will step in and discharge the duties of head coach until the end of this tournament.

Director of Cricket Mike Henson will double as the head coach until the end of the IPL 2021 season. The announcement was made when Henson interacted virtually with the press on Saturday, which was also Simon Katich’s 45th birthday.

The former Australia opener had played a key role in reviving the fortunes of RCB over the last 2 years. After coming onboard along in 2020, Katich oversaw the team’s preparations as the head coach while Henson was roped in as the Director of Cricket. Under Katich, RCB reached the play-offs in IPL 2020 — the first time they managed to do so since 2016.

RCB was in a strong position, having won 7 out of their first 10 matches in the IPL 2021 season before it was suspended in May following positive Covid-19 cases in the bio-bubbles of multiple franchises in Ahmadabad and New Delhi. RCB was at the 3rd spot on the 8-team points table.

Must Read: Test cricket means everything to Kohli, it bodes well for the format better than t20: Pietersen.

With a few of their New Zealand and Australian players either on national duty or opting out, RCB has roped in the Sri Lankan duo of Wanindu Hasaranga and Dushmantha Chameera. The arrival of the 24-year-old Hasaranga will augur well for the Bengaluru-based franchise as the leg-spinner is among the top-ranked T20 bowlers on the ICC charts. The 29-year-old Chameera will add to the pace strength of the Virat Kohli-led squad.

Lankans on Board for IPL.

“We’ve replaced Adam Zampa with Hasaranga and are delighted to have him on board. He offers us some balance from the wrist spin point of view and also plenty of batting capabilities. Chameera is also bowling well at the moment. He’s got genuine pace and his white-ball game has developed significantly,” pointed out Hesson.

Speaking about the changes in the team, Hesson revealed, “Some significant changes in our playing squad. Finn Allen and Scott Kuggeleijn have been selected for New Zealand tours, and they won’t be part of RCB. Kane Richardson has made himself unavailable, as has Daniel Sams. Therefore, the balance of our squad has changed dramatically. So, we’ve gone about making purchases during the replacement window 4-5 days ago.

Also coming into the squad is the Singapore-born Tim David in place of Allen, “We have strengthened our middle-order possibilities. Tim David, a power player who could become a straight swap for either (Glenn) Maxwell or AB de Villiers if required. It gives us other options if required and he’s also performed in the subcontinent in recent times,” Hesson added.
The Indian players in the RCB line-up along with the support staff assembled in Bengaluru on Saturday for a seven-day quarantine.
“The team will depart via a chartered flight on August 29. Once we land in the UAE, we will have another six-day hard quarantine and the testing protocol as per BCCI,” explained Menon.
