East Delhi Riders were eliminated from the DPL 2025 with an 8-wicket loss to West Delhi Lions in Qualifier 2 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. Batting first, Riders only scored 139/8, with Arpit Rana’s 50 the only highlight in a dismal innings. Once again, the middle order failed to deliver and the total was below par on a decent batting pitch. West Delhi Lions’ bowlers kept things tight and ensured the Riders’ score was never in sight. Chasing 140, the Lions chased it down in 17.3 overs thanks to Ayush Doseja and captain Nitish Rana’s explosive partnership. Below are the main reasons for the East Delhi Riders' defeat.

1. Underwhelming batting effort

The East Delhi Riders 139/8 fell well short of par on a surface that was conducive to stroke play. Only Arpit Rana stood tall with a half-century and with little support from others, they lost all momentum. Too many dot balls and wickets fell in the middle overs, which made them end up with a total that was not competitive.

2. West Delhi Lions’ disciplined bowling

Manan Bhardwaj (3/22) and Tishant Dabla (2/18) bowled with accuracy and broke partnerships at the right time. Their spells squeezed Riders’ scoring rate and ensured the middle order never settled. Even though a few overs leaked runs, the collective effort kept the pressure intact.

3. Dominant chase by Rana and Doseja

The chase was made to look easy by the Lions with Ayush Doseja’s controlled 54 and Nitish Rana's blistering 45 memorable runs off 26 deliveries. Their aggressive intention left the Riders’ bowlers clueless and helpless. Having plenty of wickets in hand, the Lions won with plenty to spare in the 18th over.

<![CDATA[Top 3 reasons why East Delhi Riders lost to Central Delhi Kings in the DPL 2025 Qualifier 1]]> https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/top-3-reasons-why-east-delhi-riders-lost-to-central-delhi-kings-in-the-dpl-2025-qualifier-1/ https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/top-3-reasons-why-east-delhi-riders-lost-to-central-delhi-kings-in-the-dpl-2025-qualifier-1/ Fri, 29 Aug 2025 19:56:46 GMT

In Qualifier 1 of the Delhi Premier League 2025, Central Delhi Kings defeated East Delhi Riders by 6 wickets in a rain-shortened clash at Arun Jaitley Stadium. The Riders could only manage 90 all out in 14.5 overs, with Sujal Singh (39 off 25) and skipper Anuj Rawat (23 off 26) providing the only resistance. Simarjeet Singh starred for CDK with a fiery spell of 5/23, while Money Grewal (2/7) added vital support. Chasing a modest target of 91, the Kings eased to 92/4 in 11.3 overs, led by Aditya Bhandari (33 off 19) and Jonty Sidhu (26 off 15). The victory booked CDK’s direct place in the DPL 2025 Final. Below are the main reasons for the East Delhi Riders' defeat:

1. Simarjeet Singh’s Match-Winning Spell

Simarjeet Singh was astounding, ripping through the EDR’s batting unit with 5/31 in only 3 overs. His wickets took the top-order batters at the top and at the right time. That spell left the Riders reeling and allowed CDK to dictate the game from the start.

2. East Delhi Riders’ Batting Collapse

Despite Sujal Singh’s 39 and Anuj Rawat’s 23, the rest of the lineup failed miserably. No other batter crossed 11 runs, leading to a total collapse at 90 all out in 14.5 overs. The lack of middle-order partnerships left EDR with no chance to compete.

3. Composed Chase from Central Delhi Kings

Chasing 91, CDK lost four wickets but never panicked. Aditya Bhandari (33 off 19) and skipper Jonty Sidhu (26 off 15) played with intent, while Aryan Rana chipped in with 14. Their calm batting sealed a smooth 6-wicket win in 11.3 overs.

Central Delhi Kings won a strong 62-run win over East Delhi Riders in Match 39 of the Delhi Premier League. Batting first, CDK lost some early wickets but settled well as Yugal Saini played a quick and important knock of 52 runs from 32 balls. Jasvir Sehrawat added a calm 37, and with help from the lower order, the team reached 155/6 in their 20 overs.

Chasing 156, East Delhi Riders were under pressure right from the start. They lost four wickets in the first three overs and could never recover. Akhil Chaudhary (26) and Rounak Waghela (19) tried to hold the innings together, but wickets kept falling at the other end. The team was bowled out for 93 runs in just 16 overs. The hero of the day was Money Grewal, who picked up 5/23 and gave CDK a well-deserved victory.

East Delhi Riders (EDR) defeat Central Delhi Kings (CDK) in Match 39 of the Delhi Premier League (DPL) 2025. After winning the toss, CDK got 155/6 in their 20 overs. Their top order gets runs. But the response of EDR was very low. They were dismissed for only 93 runs in 16 overs. The run chase could not be accelerated as wickets fell at regular intervals. CDK’s bowlers ruled the game, and thus a 62-run margin of victory was achieved easily. Below are the main reasons for the East Delhi Riders' defeat.

1. Top Order Collapse

EDR's chase got off to a poor start after losing regular wickets. Players like Arpit Rana and Anuj Rawat were dismissed cheaply and the middle order was under real pressure. The top order simply did not build partnerships and this made the chase that much harder. Subsequent to the early losses, the innings would follow suit.

2. Bowling dominance from CDK

CDK's bowlers executed all their plans efficiently, where Money Grewal destroyed the EDR innings with 5 wickets at 23 runs and Gavnish Khurana supported with 2/23 after placing the batsmen constantly under pressure. The discipline with the bowling did not allow any established partnerships. EDR’s batsmen failed to rotate the strike often under constant pressure.

3. No partnerships

EDR failed to form any partnerships, not only with the top order but through the whole innings. The highest individual score was Akhil Chaudhary with 26 runs. However, wickets fell at regular intervals during the innings, allowing EDR to never stabilize the chase. Ultimately, there wasn’t any serious challenge towards CDK’s total.

In Match 12 of the Delhi Premier League (DPL) 2025, East Delhi Riders (EDR) won a run chase of 232 runs after a great run chase against Outer Delhi Warriors (ODW) by 5 wickets with just 4 balls left.

EDR had won the toss and decided to bowl first, but ODW’s batters came out swinging. The pitch offered little help for bowlers, and runs flowed freely in the match. Still, EDR’s middle order, led by Anuj Rawat, brought the chase easily and won the match.

ODW got off to a dream start with captain Priyansh Arya leading the way. He scored a brilliant 111 off 56 balls, hitting 7 fours and 9 sixes. Karan Garg scored quick runs 43 of 24 balls, while Keshav Dabas and Harsh Tyagi added useful late runs. Even though wickets fell in the last few overs, ODW still managed a massive 231/7.

For EDR, Rounak Waghela was the pick of the bowlers with 2/34 from 3 overs. Rohit Yadav and Akhil Chaudhary also took important wickets. The chase didn’t start well for EDR, as they lost Sujal Singh and Hardik Sharma in the first two overs. But opener Arpit Rana kept his cool and counterattacked, scoring 79 off 45 balls with 8 fours and 4 sixes. Then came the big show from captain Anuj Rawat, who tore into the bowling with 84 off just 35 balls, smashing 9 sixes.

In the end, Mayank Rawat’s unbeaten 32 off 12 balls made sure there were no last-minute nerves. EDR crossed the line in 19.2 overs, capping off one of the most thrilling run chases of the DPL 2025 season.

Nitish Rana could not have asked for a better homecoming. After two years away, the former Delhi captain returned to play in front of his home fans and showed why he is still one of the best. After a quiet IPL 2025 season with Rajasthan Royals, Nitish wanted to get back in form before the new domestic season. In the IPL, he hardly bowled, but for West Delhi Lions in the DPL, he decided to use his off‑spin and it paid off.

Nitish was the most economical bowler for his team, giving away only 18 runs in 3 overs, the same as Hrithik Shokeen. He also took an important wicket, removing Arpit Rana just when East Delhi Riders were looking settled. He mixed up his pace and bowled wide so the batters couldn’t attack him easily. Before the tournament, Nitish admitted he was unsure about returning to Delhi. “I knew it wouldn’t be easy because there’s so much talent here. I didn’t want to take someone else’s place or cause any problems,” he said.

After shining with the ball, Nitish showed his real strength batting. Chasing 81 from the last 10 overs, he walked in and changed the game straight away. He smashed 39 runs from just 15 balls, hitting cleanly and taking the game away from East Delhi Riders. He got out caught behind, but by then the job was done. West Delhi Lions won by 7 wickets with 15 balls left, giving their net run rate a big boost. For Nitish, it was a dream return proving he still has the skill, the power, and the love for the game.
