Faf du Plessis, another big name, made a similar decision earlier by ruling himself out of the IPL auction. His IPL career started in 2013 with Chennai Super Kings, where he quickly became an important player. After playing seven seasons with CSK — including a season at Rising Pune Supergiant during CSK’s suspension — du Plessis had his best IPL year in 2021, scoring 633 runs and narrowly missing the Orange Cap.

After leaving CSK, Royal Challengers Bangalore signed him as captain from 2022 to 2024. During this time, he performed well as a leader and batter, scoring 730 runs in the 2023 season. Former South African cricket captain Faf du Plessis has expressed his grief and shock following the tragic death of American conservative activist Charlie Kirk. The 31-year-old co-founder of Turning Point USA was shot dead while speaking at an outdoor event at Utah Valley University in Orem. Meanwhile, authorities continue to investigate the assassination. FBI Director Kash Patel confirmed that a suspect initially detained was later released, leaving the case open. U.S. President Donald Trump also mourned Kirk, calling him a “great and even legendary” figure while vowing that those behind the attack would face justice.

Johannesburg Super Kings, under the leadership of Faf du Plessis, finished in the fourth position in the points table of the 2024/25 season of the SA20 as they earned four victories in 10 encounters at a net run rate of -0.330.
