Australia Women registered a dramatic comeback to defeat Pakistan Women in Match 9 of the ICC Women's World Cup 2025 at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. Batting first, Australia were in big trouble at 76 for 7, but Beth Mooney played a brilliant knock of 109 runs from 114 balls. She added a record 106-run partnership with Alana King, who stayed unbeaten on 51 off 49 balls. Their efforts helped Australia recover and register a good overall of 221/9. Pakistan’s spinners, especially Nashra Sandhu with 3/37, bowled well early on but could not stop the late fightback.

In reply, Pakistan’s batting collapsed as they were all out for just 114 runs in 36.3 overs, losing the match by 107 runs. Sidra Amin was the only batter who fought with 35 runs, while the others failed to build partnerships. Australia bowlers, commanded by Kim Garth (3/14), Megan Schutt (2/25), and Annabel Sutherland, were terrific with the ball and never let Pakistan settle. This massive victory provided Australia with two crucial points and lifted their confidence before facing India in their next match.

AUS-W vs PAK-W: Who Said What?

Beth Mooney (Player of the Match):

"I’d rate this innings pretty high because we were in a tricky situation. I just focused on building partnerships with Kim Garth and Alana King. It was about sticking to the plan and playing late in subcontinent conditions. Alana was brilliant, she’s such a great teammate and always lifts the group. It was tough out there, but worth it in the end."

Fatima Sana (Pakistan Captain):

"We were on top in the first 20 overs, but Mooney played really well, and our energy dropped. That’s something we need to fix, maintaining intensity till the last ball. Our decision to bowl first was based on the pitch and our spin strength, but we need more partnerships in the middle and better energy in the field. Consistency is the key going forward."

Alyssa Healy (Australia Captain):

"Two points, and we move on. That’s one of the best innings I’ve seen Moons play in my career. At one stage, we thought 150-160 would be a good total, but she got us beyond 200, which was massive. We didn’t adapt well early on, getting out in similar ways, but we’ll learn and be ready for India next. Our depth really showed today, everyone’s contributing, though we’d like more runs from the top order. There are plenty of positives from this win, and we’ll focus on those."

India continued their dominant run against pakistan in the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025, registering an emphatic 88-run win to extend their lead to 12-0 in World Cup matches. Opting to bat first after winning the toss, India scored 247, with valuable contributions from Harleen Deol (46) and Richa Ghosh's explosive 35 runs in a short time. Though none of the Indian batters converted their starts into big scores, the total proved to be more than enough on a slow pitch in Colombo.

Pakistan’s chase never took off as debutant Kranti Goud (3/20) delivered a stunning spell to rip through their top order. Deepti Sharma (3/45) and Sneh Rana (2 wickets) offered strong support as Pakistan were bowled out for 159. Sidra Amin’s brilliant 81 was the lone highlight for Pakistan, but the lack of partnerships proved costly. With the victory, India notched their second consecutive win in the tournament, while Pakistan earned its second successive loss.

IND-W vs PAK-W: Who Said What?

Kranti Goud (Player of the Match):

"I am feeling really good. To win the player of the match that too in a World Cup. My family members and everyone back home at the village will be really happy. They have put on a big LED to watch the game. It is a proud moment for everyone. (On wicket of Aliya Riaz) Yes, I did ask the captain for a second slip. Harmanpreet said the ball is old now, we should not get the second slip. I told her, no let's keep it in this over and in the same over, I got the wicket. I just want to say, my coach just tells me to keep it simple and that is what I try to do."

Harmanpreet Kaur (India Women Captain):

"Definitely, very happy. Important game for us, I am sure everyone at home is also happy. I think, the kind of bowling we did today. Kranti was outstanding. Renuka was helping her to get those wickets. I think we bowled well overall, created too many chances but unfortunately dropped those. But you feel happy, when you win. To be honest, it was not an easy wicket to bat on. We just wanted to bat deep and see how many runs we can get. When we played here in the tri-series, it was a totally different surface. Rain for a few days, changing the surface. Richa was crucial with those 30 runs in the end. There are a lot of areas but right now I am happy that we won this game. We wanted the momentum when we go back to India. We won't be playing any more games here. We know how the pitches are in India, let's see what is the best combination for us and how we can improve our cricket day by day."

Fatima Sana (Pakistan Women Captain):

"Yeah, I think, at the start, we gave away too many runs in the powerplay. We gave away too many extras at the start as well as in the death overs. When I bowled, it was seaming a bit. Diana Baig was a bit confused whether to go for seam or swing. I told her what to do continuously. She will be okay in the next game. If we had restricted them to under 200, then it would have been a good total for us. Still, we lost this by some runs. I believed that tonight's batting line-up is the best one for us. They are proper batters in the top 5. They need to step up in the upcoming games. We need to explore ourselves in the batting. We need long partnerships and bat according to the conditions by assessing them. Sidra Ameen is the main player in our team. She is a hard-working player. Hope that the God will help her. Hope that she will be good in the next match as well."

The India vs Pakistan game is always about excitement and drama. However, the recent few games have been different, as in the Asia Cup 2025, it was only about tough competition and controversy post the Operation Sindhoor. There was drama on both sides of players not shaking hands with each other, and it continued during the IND-W vs PAK-W in the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025.

The encounter at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo started when the match referee and presenter made a blunder on the Pakistan captain’s decision, where he called tails, but it was heard as heads. There was no handshake between the two captains, Harmanpreet Kaur and Fatima Sana.

One of the scenes of the game was the insects, which were making it hard for the batters to see the ball and stay at the crease. The Indian players reported the issue to the umpires, who had nothing to do apart from continuing the contest. Later, the insects started to create problems even for the Pakistani players.

After the fifth ball of the 27 overs, the Pakistan players discussed with the umpires. Nashra Sandu and a few fielders asked for something from the dressing room as the substitute fielder ran into the field with a spray, which was perhaps used to remove mosquitoes. Fatima, the captain, used it liberally to get back at the insects as they called for drinks.

India didn’t display a great performance with the bat. Smriti Mandhana went back to the hut for 23 runs in 32 balls while Pratika Rawal ended with 31 runs in 37 balls with the help of five boundaries. Their captain, Harmanpreet Kaur, went back to the dressing room for 19 runs.

The fourth wicket stand between Harleen Deol, who has reached his fifty, and Jemimah Rodrigues is recovering India’s innings as they aim to cross the 250-run mark by the end of their allotted 20 overs.

Bangladesh Women secured a dominating victory in the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025 by winning seven wickets against Pakistan Women in Match 3 at R. Premadasa Stadium, Colombo. The Bangladesh side put in a complete performance by allowing their bowlers to restrict Pakistan to a cheap total and then allowing their batters to chase it down with ease.

Pakistan, after winning the toss and choosing to bat, had a disastrous start. Both openers Omaima Sohail and Sidra Amin were dismissed for ducks, leaving the side under pressure from the first over. Muneeba Ali tried to fight back but only made 17, while Aliya Riaz (13) and Sidra Nawaz (15) also failed to make big scores. The only resistance came from Rameen Shamim with 23 and captain Fatima Sana with 22. With wickets falling at regular intervals, Pakistan were bowled out for just 129 in 38.3 overs.

Bangladesh bowlers were outstanding. Shorna Akter led the way with a brilliant spell of 3/5 in 3.3 overs, including three maidens. Marufa Akter and Nahida Akter took two wickets each to keep Pakistan on the back foot. Chasing 130, Bangladesh never looked troubled. Rubya Haider impressed on debut with 54 runs off 77 balls, while Sobhana Mostary (24) and captain Nigar Sultana (23) guided the team to victory in 31.1 overs.

PAK-W vs BAN-W: Who said what?

Marufa Akter (Player of the Match):

“Everyone supported me. Sobhana Mostary, whenever I bowled, she tells me that you are a good bowler and you can do it for the team. The team analyst also told me two months back that I can get the player of the match and it has happened. (On getting swing with the new ball) First four balls, I look to assess the conditions. I was getting good swing and I was maintaining good line and length. Both wickets, were good (chuckles). Yes, first, I cannot understand where the ball went but then I figured and went for it the next time. I always feel that I am the best fielder in the team.”

Nigar Sultana (Bangladesh Captain):

“Yeah, I am happy. See, a good toss to lose. We wanted to bat first as well. I just told my girls that we need quick wickets in the powerplay and how Marufa bowled in the powerplay, she stole the show. I think, she (Marufa Akter) is very young and mature cricketer. She knows her role well. How she delivered today in the middle is quite incredible. See, after the first innings, we talked about playing our natural game. I think Jhelik (Rubya Haider) batted well on her debut and other batters around her batted well. I think, sometimes you feel pressure when you lose early wickets. We wanted to build partnerships. This is the kind of culture we wanted to create in our team. We wanted to start well and carry this momentum into the tournement.”

Fatima Sana (Pakistan Captain):

“I think in the first over of the match, we gave a couple of wickets and that was the turning point. In the next game, we will try to make a comeback in the World Cup. I think we just collapsed during our batting. Some players are playing their first World Cup and they are definitely under a bit more pressure. However, the team atmosphere is very good and we as a unit are gelling very well. I think it was a better pitch for the pacers as it was seaming a bit but it was good enough for batting as well. We were unable to execute our plans in the first innings.”
