Jos Buttler is at his peak form in the IPL 2025. So far, he has scored three half-centuries, including an unbeaten 97-run knock last night against Delhi Capitals. That innings showed the character of the English batter. In the post-match presentation ceremony, Buttler revealed what he told his batting partner Rahul Tewatia when he was on the verge of claiming his IPL ton.

Both teams batters, during the Gujarat Titans vs Delhi Capitals clash enjoyed the surface of Narendra Modi Stadium; the wicket was batsman-friendly, and Buttler got the most from it. His 97-run innings was decorated with 11 boundaries and 4 over-boundaries. Delhi Capitals got a handsome total of 203 in the first innings, but when a batter like Buttler was on song, mammoth-looking targets looked comfortable enough to chase down.

In exchange for only 3 wickets, GT reached their destination with 7 wickets in hand and 4 balls to spare. After losing skipper Shubman Gill early, Sai Sudharsan (36 runs in 21 balls) and Jos Buttler continued to pile up runs. In the later part of the innings, Sherfane Rutherford (43 runs in 34 balls) combined well with the England star. Rahul Tewatia wrapped the innings in style with an unbeaten 11 runs off only 3 balls.

After the match, the star performer of the contest, Jos Butter, revealed how he advised Tewatia to stay focused and play for his team, not for an individual.

Butter told Rahul to perform as a team man

"Really pleased with the two points. It was a beautiful wicket to bat on; we just wanted to try and take it deep and pick our moments to attack. We have built some nice partnerships along the way. I told Rahul not to worry about my score; we have to win. Credit to him, he has done that over the last few years, where he can find the fence from ball one."

He applauded Rutherford as well by saying, "His sixes off Mohit changed the game and the momentum."

"He told me just one thing when we needed 10 off the last over - don't look at my hundred. He told me 'I know you are very clear in your mind - so just execute your plan and not at my hundred, just look at winning the game'", Rahul also said the same.

In Match 35 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, Gujarat Titans (GT) delivered a dominant performance against Delhi Capitals (DC) at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Saturday, April 19. DC, batting first, put up a competitive total of 203 runs in their 20 overs, powered by some solid top-order batting. However, Gujarat’s Prasidh Krishna was the standout bowler, claiming 4 wickets in a remarkable four-over spell to keep the scoring in check.

Gujarat Titans began their chase with intent, and the innings soon turned into a Jos Buttler masterclass. The English opener was in devastating form, unleashing a flurry of boundaries and keeping the pressure firmly on the Delhi bowlers. The highlight of the innings came in the 15th over, bowled by Australian speedster Mitchell Starc, who faced the full wrath of Buttler’s brilliance.

Buttler carved Starc for five consecutive boundaries in the over. He started with a lofted drive through extra cover, followed by a sliced four past backward point. A thick edge on the third ball flew to third man, and the fourth was driven past mid-off. The fifth, a short ball, was miscued but still raced away to the ropes. The over yielded 20 runs and marked a turning point in the chase.

This clinical chase marked GT’s sixth win of the season, propelling them past DC to take the top spot in the IPL 2025 points table. The victory highlighted Gujarat’s balanced performance and Buttler’s invaluable contribution as a match-winner.

The IPL 2025 Match 35 featured the Gujarat Titans (GT) defeating the Delhi Capitals (DC) with 7 wickets when both teams played at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on April 19th.

Delhi Capitals Innings

Delhi Capitals, opting to bat first after winning the toss, got off to a brisk start at the Narendra Modi Stadium. Dc began their innings with a strong start as KL Rahul scored 28 runs off 14 balls, and Karun Nair hit 31 runs using 18 balls until Prasidh Krishna bowled Nair for dismissal by Arshad Khan. At 77/3, Delhi Capitals suffered a setback when Vipraj Nigam hit a delivery from Krishna to be caught by Jos Buttler. Axar Patel scored 39 runs from his 32 balls, while Tristan Stubbs (31 off 17) and Ashutosh Sharma (37 off 20) completed the inning with their late boundary hits. The 4 overs from Prasidh Krishna resulted in 41 runs, with Axar Patel becoming one of his victims, while Mohammed Siraj maintained tight control over the opposition. During the inning, Rashid Khan gave away more than 9 runs in each of his overs. The last part of DC's batting performance faded out as the overs progressed despite building a difficult run score.

Gujarat Titans Innings

The Gujarat Titans lost their initial wicket of Shubman Gill after he scored 7 runs for a run-out. The inning was carried by Jos Buttler, who remained unbeaten with 97 runs from 54 balls (5 sixes, 11 fours), while Sai Sudharsan scored 36 off 20 deliveries as support. The 119-run partnership between Sherfane Rutherford and Jos Buttler established control while Rutherford scored 43 runs from 34 balls during the Gujarat Titans' run. Rahul Tewatia launched his bat for a game-shaping 10* off 2 atScores (six, four) to clinch a 7-wicket victory for Gujarat Titans against Delhi Capitals with four balls remaining. The combination of DC's Kuldeep Yadav and Mukesh Kumar allowed Jos Buttler to score 97 runs without being dismissed, while GT achieved their first IPL 2022 victory against DC with more than 200 runs.

GT vs DC: Post Match Reactions

Axar Patel (DC Captain): "I think we were 10-15 runs short, and that was the difference in the end. We lost wickets whenever we were trying to accelerate and couldn't build partnerships. We should have hit a few more boundaries. We bowled really well but missing a few catches here and there also cost us. No need to think much. It was just a matter of 1 or 2 hits and a few fielding lapses. We shouldn't repeat such mistakes."

Sai Sudharsan (GT ) was pleased with his batting conditions in the second innings and said he wanted to focus on timing rather than power. He said he trains for different reactions to deliveries and that he is continually evolving as a batsman by watching players like Jos Buttler, as he considers him to have a similar base and calmness in approach.

Gujarat Titans (GT Captain) said his bowlers responded well after a good start from the Capitals. Although the Capitals built that early momentum, the Titans' bowlers came back to the game by following the plans. Gill said his team has been good in chasing throughout the season, and he was pleased with the calculated partnership being built by Jos Buttler and Sherfane Rutherford. Gill added that the team will be looking forward to their upcoming back-to-back matches.

Jos Buttler (Player of the Match) told the media that he was ecstatic with the win and with his performance. He acknowledged that the playing conditions were difficult given the degree as well as the importance of fitness in these matches. Buttler said it was great to bat with Rutherford, and he was proud to make a contribution with a win even if he just missed out on a century.

The 35th match of IPL 2025 is currently underway at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, featuring an exciting clash between the Gujarat Titans (GT) and the Delhi Capitals (DC). After winning the toss, GT captain Shubman Gill opted to bowl first, hoping to capitalize on the pitch conditions. Meanwhile, DC made a notable change to their lineup, playing without Jake Fraser-McGurk.

As the match kicked off, the DC top-order came out swinging, determined to set a strong foundation. In the third over, with Mohammed Siraj bowling, KL Rahul and Karun Nair were at the crease for DC. On the third delivery, Siraj pitched the ball full and angled it towards Rahul, who elegantly cleared his front leg and lofted it over long-on for a massive six. The shot was a display of Rahul's exquisite timing and power-hitting, executed with finesse rather than brute force.

Siraj's first over proved costly, conceding 16 runs and putting early pressure on the GT bowlers. However, Arshad Khan managed to regain some control in the following over by dismissing Abishek Porel for 18 runs. Porel had already made his mark, hitting three boundaries and a six before his departure. The Karnataka duo of Rahul and Nair also fell shortly after making promising starts, but their efforts helped DC post an impressive 73 runs in the powerplay, despite losing a couple of wickets.

The IPL 2025 match between the Gujarat Titans (GT) and the Delhi Capitals (DC) on April 19 at Narendra Modi Stadium offered more than just plenty of runs scored by both teams. In fact, in the end, the post-season fireworks associated with veteran paceman Ishant Sharma and DC's emerging star Ashutosh Sharma overshadowed even the performance played on the pitch. The long-lasting drama between these two players occurred in the final overs of DC's innings, just as Sharma had completed a bouncer that had quelled what had been a competitive game until this point.

Sharma's contentious bouncer, pitching in the 19th over, directly hit the shoulder of Ashutosh, which resulted in a furious display from Ishant. Ishant, believing the ball had bat contact, had his own frustration raised further when the umpire did not declare Ashutosh out. With Ashutosh maintaining his composure, he rolled up his sleeve and revealed his shoulder - with the "impact" mark upon it—and continued the verbal exchange into a stare-down confrontation between Ishant and Ashutosh that only ended when GT skipper Shubman Gill next got involved in the situation and was spotted in an argument with the on-field umpires.

On-Field Tensions and Team Dynamics

The discussion was more than a personal spat but a flare-up of the great emotions of IPL 2025. Ishant from GT was visibly tormented and clearly exasperated, and his flailing arms captured the eye of the dugout coach, Ashish Nehra. GT ultimately took Ishant off and replaced him with Sherfane Rutherford as an Impact Player, perhaps to help defuse the situation. Ashutosh scored 37 runs in 19 balls as part of DC's ominous 203/8 above powerful innings with Axar Patel (39), Karun Nair (31), and Tristan Stubbs (31).

The incident was widely circulated on social media, which led to chatter among fans, some humorously noting the "Delhi spirit" exhibited by Ishant no matter what shirt he seemed to wear. The disagreement did not change the outcome of the match but spoke to the passion and pressure that exist in IPL cricket.  For Ishant and Ashutosh, as they each move on as players, this moment will best be remembered as a fiery highlight of the season, a reminder to us all of the raw emotion that turns the IPL into a global prodigy.

In a high-voltage encounter at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, Delhi Capitals made a bold move by excluding Jake Fraser-McGurk from their starting XI for Match 35 of IPL 2025 against Gujarat Titans. The decision comes after the explosive Australian batter struggled to make an impact in the tournament so far.

Delhi Capitals, riding high after a thrilling Super Over win against Rajasthan Royals, currently sit at the top of the table with five wins from six games. Their solid run has been a mix of strong leadership, clinical bowling, and key contributions from both experienced and young players. Meanwhile, the Gujarat Titans are looking to bounce back after their four-match winning streak was halted by a defeat to the Lucknow Super Giants.

Changes in the Lineup

With Fraser-McGurk sidelined, Delhi has reshuffled their combination, bringing in a more balanced mix of local talent and seasoned names. In contrast, Gujarat have brought back experienced pacer Ishant Sharma, strengthening their bowling unit. The decision to bench Fraser-McGurk underlines Delhi’s push for consistency as they look to maintain momentum in the business end of the season.

For the Gujarat Titans, Prasidh Krishna was the standout bowler, claiming 4 wickets for 41 runs, including two in two balls .

In response, the Gujarat Titans are currently at 41/1 after 3.5 overs, needing 163 runs from 97 balls at a required run rate of 10.08. Opener Shubman Gill was run out for 7 runs due to a miscommunication with his partner. Sai Sudharsan is unbeaten on 23 off 10 balls, and Jos Buttler is at the crease with 11 runs from 8 balls.

KL Rahul has set a new record in the Indian Premier League. The ace wicketkeeper-batter became the quickest Indian to have achieved 200 IPL sixes. He achieved this feat on April 19, 2025, in the game between Delhi Capitals and Gujarat Titans at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. In the third over of the innings, Rahul hit Mohammed Siraj over the long-on boundary to smash his 200th six spectacularly. In addition to being a personal achievement, the six demonstrated Rahul's ability to take on the best bowlers early in the innings.

Rahul achieved 200 sixes in just 129 innings, bettering the previous record shared by Rajasthan Royals skipper Sanju Samson, who had reached the same achievement in 159 innings. Other Indian greats such as MS Dhoni, Virat Kohli, and Rohit Sharma achieved 200 sixes in 165, 180, and 185 innings, respectively.

KL Rahul is Only Behind Gayle and Russell for Fastest to 200 IPL Sixes

In total, KL Rahul is the third-quickest IPL bowler in history to score 200 sixes. Only West Indies legends Chris Gayle and Andre Russell have achieved it quicker. Gayle, who is the "Universe Boss," achieved 200 sixes in 69 innings, while Russell achieved it in 97 innings. This makes Rahul the quickest among all Indian batsmen and just behind two of the greatest big-hitters the game has ever known.

With this milestone, Rahul joins a select list of IPL batsmen. He is the 11th man overall and the sixth Indian to have hit 200 sixes in the tournament. During the game, Rahul was in top form as he scored 28 runs off 14 deliveries. His innings contained three fours and one significant six that set history. As the 2025 IPL season unfolds, viewers will be keen to watch how many more sixes Rahul can annex to his name.

Ahead of the much-awaited IPL 2025 clash between Delhi Capitals and Gujarat Titans on April 19 in Ahmedabad, KL Rahul and Kevin Pietersen shared a humorous exchange during a practice session. When Pietersen jokingly asked, “Who is a mentor?”, Rahul cheekily replied, “A mentor is someone who goes to the Maldives for two weeks mid-season.” The witty comment drew laughter from everyone present, including Gujarat captain Shubman Gill, and quickly gained traction on social media.

Pietersen, who rejoined Delhi Capitals this season as a mentor, had taken a short family vacation to the Maldives, missing two crucial matches against Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Mumbai Indians. However, he returned ahead of the Gujarat fixture and was seen actively engaging with players during training. Despite the break, Pietersen remains an influential figure in the DC camp, offering strategic insights and valuable mentorship to players like Jake Fraser-McGurk.

Delhi Capitals, led by stand-in captain Axar Patel, are enjoying a strong run this season with five wins from six matches, topping the points table. KL Rahul has been instrumental in their success, not just with his consistent batting performances, but also with his leadership presence. After a quiet outing against Sunrisers Hyderabad, Rahul bounced back with a fluent 77 against Chennai Super Kings and followed it up with a match-winning unbeaten 93 versus Royal Challengers Bengaluru, lifting team morale both on and off the field.

As Delhi Capitals prepare to take on Gujarat Titans at the Narendra Modi Stadium, the team will look to carry forward its impressive momentum. With five wins in six games, confidence is running high within the squad. The combination of winning performances and a relaxed, cohesive dressing room bodes well for DC's continued dominance.
