Mumbai Indians are now just one win away from playing their 7th IPL final. The team has confirmed its place in Qualifier 2 by defeating Gujarat Titans by 20 runs in the eliminator match. In this match against Gujarat, all the batsmen from Mumbai scored runs in good rhythm. In which, especially with Rohit Sharma's innings of 81 runs, Mumbai proved successful in giving a target of 228 runs to Gujarat in this big match in IPL 2025.

As told to you, Mumbai batted first in this match and scored 227 runs in 20 overs on the scoreboard. In this, all the batsmen from Mumbai performed well. Rohit Sharma scored 81, Jonny Bairstow 47, Surya 33 and Tikal Verma played a quick innings of 25 runs. Due to which Mumbai was successful in giving a target of 228 runs in this eliminator match. However, this run chase did not start well for Gujarat. Because the team captain Shubman Gill returned to the pavilion after scoring just 1. But Sai Sudarshan definitely played an innings of 80 runs. Despite this, the team was able to score only 208 runs in its 20 overs. In this way Mumbai has won this match.

Match will be held with PBKS in Qualifier 2

Now if Mumbai Indians want to reach the final of this season, then they will also have to defeat Punjab Kings in Qualifier 2. Which is of course coming after a one-sided defeat against RCB in the last match. But Punjab has performed well throughout this IPL season. In this sense, it would not be wrong to say that it will not be easy for Mumbai to win this match against Punjab. This match will be played on June 1 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

<![CDATA[Top 3 reasons why Gujarat Titans Lost to Mumbai Indians in IPL 2025 Eliminator]]> https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/top-3-reasons-why-gujarat-titans-lost-to-mumbai-indians-in-ipl-2025-eliminator/ https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/top-3-reasons-why-gujarat-titans-lost-to-mumbai-indians-in-ipl-2025-eliminator/ Sat, 31 May 2025 00:39:52 GMT

In the IPL 2025 Eliminator, Mumbai Indians (MI) defeated the Gujarat Titans (GT) by 20 runs. MI posted a solid score of 228/5 in their allotted 20 overs, led by Rohit Sharma, who made 81 off 50 balls, and Jonny Bairstow 47 off 22, while Hardik Pandya chipped in 22* off 9 balls. GT's bowlers struggled to contain the MI batters. Sai Kishore took 2/42 in his 4 overs, and Prasidh Krishna took 2/53 in his 4 overs; Mohammed Siraj took the only other wicket with 1/37 in his 4 overs.

GT chased 229 and managed 208/6 in their allotted 20 overs. The highest contributor was Sai Sudharsan with 80 off 49 balls and Washington Sundar’s 48 off 24. MI bowlers were led by Trent Boult with 2/56 in his 4 overs and Jasprit Bumrah with 1/27 in his 4 overs, with Sai Kishore and Prasidh Krishna contributing in the field. GT could not keep momentum going after Sudharsan was dismissed. While they made a good case, the total overstretched them. This victory for MI took them to Qualifier 2 against Punjab Kings (PBKS); GT’s IPL 2025 had a disappointing ending. Here are the key reasons that GT lost to MI.

1. Dropped Catches during Powerplay

Gujarat’s fielders cost the team by dropping three easy catches in the powerplay. The dropped catches off Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav allowed MI to get a start and build momentum. These dropped catches gave MI an ideal start and upset GT’s bowling plans. Such errors are costly in knockout matches.

2. Expensive Bowling in Crucial Phases

GT’s bowlers, particularly in the death overs, struggled to stem the run flow as MI made a massive total of 228/5. Both Prasidh Krishna (2/53) and Trent Boult (2/56) struggled with their line and length. They executed poor ball deliveries under pressure, and MI batters were able to get away for runs during the last overs due to ineffective bowling. The ability of the GT bowlers to defend important overs considerably tilted the match in MI’s favor.

3. Batting Collapse After Strong Start

After getting a solid 50-run stand from Sudharsan and Sundar, the innings lost its shape very quickly. The rare Kusal Mendis hit-wicket dismissal halted the momentum at a pivotal time. The lower middle order could not keep up with the run rate, which added pressure. Although there was a possibility of chasing down the runs, GT ended up losing by 20 runs.

The disconcerted bowlers of Gujarat Titans (GT) had to face hurdle after hurdle in the Eliminator match of IPL 2025 against Mumbai at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur. Once they got rid of Jonny Bairstow, then they faced an in-form Suryakumar Yadav. The batter on strike was different, but the result was the same—a maximum on a well-guided ball by Gerald Coetzee.

The newly formed opening pair of Mumbai Indians with Rohit Sharma and Jonny Bairstow proved lit when both of the experienced batters started to swing their blades mercilessly at the opponent team bowlers. Prasidh Krishna was the bowler who suffered most of the wrath from Bairstow. After his departure at an individual of 47, Suryakumar Yadav stepped into the field to join Rohit Sharma, who was already on fire at that moment.

Yadav chose to take the matter easy and stitched a fine and effective partnership with the former skipper of the Mumbai Indians. Two stalwarts of Mumbai put together 59 runs on the scoreboard, while Suryakumar snatched 33 off 20 with a 165.0 strike rate. The right-handed batter decorated his innings with 3 over boundaries and 1 boundary. One of those 6s came against a well-placed bouncer by Gerald Coetzee.

A shining Surya and Mumbai Indians

The South African international hit the deck with around 141 km/h delivery for a chest-height bouncer, middle and slightly off, the territory of Suryakumar Yadav, who pulled out his own pull shot, the supra. He transferred the weight to the back foot, slightly positioned himself towards the middle, and then pulled the trigger for the well-crafted six over the deep square leg region. Coetzee was helpless and had nothing to do at that moment but to watch the ball floating high into the stand.

With the combined batting performance, the five-time IPL-winning franchise found themselves in the driver's seat from the first innings of the Eliminator 1 match. They scored 228 for 5 wickets in the 20-over limit, Rohit Sharma, their star batter of the evening, with 81 off 50.

<![CDATA[[WATCH] Eliminator: Kusal Mendis falls Hit wicket in IPL 2025 as Gujarat Titans chase]]> https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/watch-eliminator-kusal-mendis-falls-hit-wicket-in-ipl-2025-as-gujarat-titans-chase/ https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/watch-eliminator-kusal-mendis-falls-hit-wicket-in-ipl-2025-as-gujarat-titans-chase/ Fri, 30 May 2025 22:38:53 GMT

In an incredibly dramatic moment during the IPL 2025 Eliminator at the New PCA Stadium in Chandigarh, Gujarat Titans’ (GT) wicket-keeper Kusal Mendis was dismissed hit wicket in the seventh over chasing a target against Mumbai Indians (MI). As Mendis faced off against a short delivery from Mitchell Santner, he moved back deep into his crease and inadvertently clipped the stumps with his back leg. He was dismissed for a quick 20 from 10 deliveries and became the third player in IPL history to be dismissed hit wicket.

Mendis was drafted into the squad as a replacement for Jos Buttler, who had to leave for national duty. He debuted for the franchise in this knockout encounter and endured a difficult day on field. First he dropped a catch each of Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav, highlighting his inefficiency behind the stumps. The dropped chances allowed MI to finish with a good score and put pressure on GT’s chase, knowing it was a do-or-die match.

At the crease, though, Mendis looked promising with the bat. When Shubman Gill fell first ball, he came in with Sai Sudharsan and attacked immediately. He hit two big sixes off Trent Boult and pushed momentum back into GT. The duo brought up a 50-run stand in just 28 deliveries, lifting GT's hopes before Mendis’ rare dismissal halted the surge.

Momentum with GT Despite Unusual Dismissal

Mendis' hit-wicket offered MI a brief opportunity to claw back into the game, but GT has continued to keep the scoreboard ticking. In-form Sai Sudharsan and Washington Sunder have now settled into the chase comfortably, exercising poise and power while MI continues to bear down on them.

Five-time IPL champions Mumbai Indians got a strong start against the IPL 2022 champions Gujarat Titans in the Eliminator of the IPL 2025. GT fielders Sai Sudharsan and Gerald Coetzee teamed up for a stunning catch to bring the first wicket, as that catch dismissed dangerous MI opener Jonny Bairstow just before completion of his half-century.

After Mumbai Indians captain Hardik Pandya chose to bat first, Mumbai Indians openers Rohit Sharma and Jonny Bairstow provided a strong start with 79/0 at the end of the powerplay. They had an 84-run partnership for the first wicket, before Jonny Bairstow was dismissed in the eighth over after scoring 47 off 22 balls with the help of four fours and three sixes.

Jonny Bairstow was dismissed after a superb work by Sai Sudharsan and Gerald Coetzee

Bairstow went for a reverse-sweep to the left-arm spinner Sai Kishore. Backward point fielder Sai Sudharsan, the Orange Cap holder, made a desperate dive to his left and pushed the ball towards the short third fielder Gerald Coetzee, who comfortably completed that catch to dismiss the English cricketer. It was a much-needed breakthrough for Gujarat Titans.

Mumbai Indians scored 228/5

Mumbai Indians ultimately managed to score 228/5 in 20 overs. Rohit Sharma smashed 81 off 50 balls with the help of nine fours and four sixes. In-form Suryakumar Yadav managed another 25+ knock by scoring 33 off 20 balls (one four and three sixes), while Tilak Varma (25 off 11 balls; three sixes) and skipper Hardik Pandya (22 not out off nine balls; three sixes) played useful cameos to set up a big total in the Eliminator.

Weather and Pitch Report

The expected weather in Chandigarh on May 30, 2025, will be hot (28-32°C and 40-50% humidity), and no rain is expected. Dew may play a factor for the chasing side in the second innings because the ball may skid onto the batsman, and the bowlers may struggle for grip. The Mullanpur pitch will provide a balanced surface. It will be fair to the batters at the beginning and will assist the spinners later on, because it will probably be dry. Teams have preferred to chase, as three of four have been won by the team setting a target so far this season.

GT vs MI: Match Preview

GT approaches Eliminator 1 as a confident team. Having won three of their last five matches, including a 36-run victory over MI in Match 9, GT appears to have their batting lineup in a rhythm led by Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan. They have gone above 180 in six of their matches this season, and they have a 66.67% win rate in those specific scenarios. There have at times been question marks surrounding GT's middle order. The loss of Jos Buttler for international duties may affect their top order. GT's bowling unit of Prasidh Krishna and Mohammed Siraj are still in good shape, although they will miss the all-round prowess of Gerald Coetzee, with Arshad Khan stepping in.

MI also enters the encounter with three wins from their last five matches. MI has relied on their explosive batting lineup, which features Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav, and they will be without Will Jacks for international duties, who scored a quickfire 50 in Match 56. MI's middle order has stepped up with the likes of Hardik Pandya and Tilak Varma, but MI's batting faltered in some low-scoring games, which included their 155/8 against GT. MI's bowling has done a great job, led by Jasprit Bumrah and D. Chahar, who have been relatively economical at an 8.1-run average in powerplay overs. Trent Boult and Mitchell Santner have been Control bowlers.

IPL 2025 is set for the next stage with the 4 best teams of the season. This time, all four teams are currently balancing on a thin thread; a single wrong move can prove fatal at this point. After winning the IPL 2024 with Kolkata Knight Riders, Shreyas Iyer is now on the same mission with Punjab Kings (PBKS). The way they performed on the field and the character they showed under immense pressure make them one of the hot favorites to win this season's Indian Premier League title.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru, the second team to confirm top 2 after Punjab, pulled out a stunning performance against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) before signing out from the league stage. LSG skipper Rishabh Pant's century faded away due to the collective efforts of RCB players.

Gujarat Titans and Mumbai Indians will lock horns in the Eliminator. The losing side will be straightaway knocked out, and the winning side will take another step closer to the final spot. From the beginning of the season, Gujarat Titans' performance has been dominating. The team combination and Captain Subhman Gill's tactical movement on time are some of the assets of the team. And Mumbai Indians again proved their ante; after a struggling initial phase in IPL 2025, they made a comeback that so far has helped them to reach the round of four.

In Match no 67 of IPL 2025, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) won against Gujarat Titans (GT) by a big margin of 83 runs. CSK Batted first, they scored a massive score of 230 runs, and in reply, GT failed to chase the target.

CSK’s batters went all guns blazing right from the start. Young Ayush Mhatre lit up the stadium with a quickfire 34 off just 17 balls, which included a standout over that went 2, 6, 6, 4, 4, 6. Dewald Brevis smashed a brilliant 57 off 23 balls, while Devon Conway played a steady hand with 52 from 35 deliveries. Urvil Patel also scored quick runs 37 off 19 balls, helping CSK reach one of the highest total runs of the season.

Despite the big score, a few GT bowlers showed some fight. Prasidh Krishna was the best of the lot, picking up 2 wickets for just 22 runs in his 4 overs. Shahrukh Khan bowled only one over but got a wicket while giving away 13 runs. Sai Kishore also took a wicket, but was expensive, conceding 23 runs in 2 overs

Chasing a huge total of 231, GT never really got going. Sai Sudharsan tried to hold things together with a solid 41 off 28 balls. Arshad Khan (20 off 14) and Shahrukh Khan (19 off 15) made small contributions, but the rest of the batting fell apart.CSK’s bowlers made sure there was no way back for GT. Anshul Kamboj was an outstanding performer, taking 3 wickets for just 13 runs in 2.3 overs. Noor Ahmad also took 3 wickets, giving away only 21 runs in 4 overs. Ravindra Jadeja kept things tight and picked up 2 wickets for 17 runs in 3 overs.

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) crushed Gujarat Titans (GT) by 83 runs in Match 67 of IPL 2025 in Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad. CSK batted first and scored 230/5, with Dewald Brevis playing the innings of his life with a swashbuckling 57 off 23 balls, followed by Devon Conway (52 off 35) and Urvil Patel (37 off 13 to help accelerate the innings). Gujarat bowlers simply couldn't rein in the run rate.

Gujarat Titans' chase started poorly, as captain Shubman Gill was dismissed cheaply, not giving his team any momentum early. Titans lost wickets heavily during the powerplay and didn't recover from that situation for the rest of the innings. Sai Sudharsan showed some resistance with a fighting knock of 41 off 28 balls, but the other batters didn't support him. Shahrukh Khan and Arshad Khan chipped in with small contributions, but when they were out, the Titans collapsed to 147 all out in 18.3 overs.

Chennai has their fast bowlers executing their plan to a tee, with Noor Ahmad (3/21), Anshul Kamboj (3/13), and Ravindra Jadeja also bowling well and constraining the run rate. With this emphatic win, CSK ended their campaign on a high, while Shubman Gill’s Gujarat side suffered a heavy blow to their playoff hopes. Here are the Key reasons why GT lost to CSK.

1. Expensive Powerplay Bowling

The Gujarat Titans got off to an awful start with the ball, conceding in excess of 70 runs in the powerplay. The CSK top order, led by Dewald Brevis and Devon Conway, unleashed brutal power early on, leaving the GT bowlers behind the 8 ball. With no early wickets and pressure on the batting team, CSK were masters of the innings and set the tone for a mammoth total of 230.

Also Read: IPL 2025, Match 67: Gujarat Titans vs Chennai Super Kings Full Match Highlights

2. Lack of Control in Middle Overs

The GT bowlers and fielders were undisciplined in the middle overs of the innings. The spinners and medium pacers offered no control, and they were unable to pick up timely wickets. Fielding errors and missed chances cost us momentum. The CSK batters quickly cashed in with runs, and better still, they maintained a run rate above 11 for the entirety of the innings, ensuring the run rate did not drop even in the death overs.

3. Top-Order Failure Under Pressure

With such a huge target to chase, Gujarat would be expecting to consolidate and build; however, the early wicket of Sai Sudharsan, followed by another wicket from Gil as well as poor running, killed the momentum of the chase for Gujarat. The top order collapsed under pressure with 3 early losses within the Powerplay, and there were no significant partnerships. The middle order could not step up and change the order of the chase. The scoreboard fought against the young Gujarat side, and an embarrassing collapse soon led to an 83-run defeat.

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) crunched Gujarat Titans (GT) in Match 67 of IPL 2025 with a mammoth 83-run victory. Batting first, CSK put up a towering total of 230/5 in 20 overs, leaving GT with a monumental chase. The Titans crumbled under scoreboard pressure and were bowled out for 147 in 18.3 overs.

Chennai Super Kings Innings

CSK scored a mammoth 230/5 in 20 overs, with fireworks during the innings. Ayush Mhatre scored a quick 34 off 17 With a massive over (2, 6, 6, 4, 4, 6). Dewald Brevis hit 57 off 23 balls, Devon Conway scored 52 off 35 balls, and Urvil Patel scored 37 off 19 balls to lead CSK to one of the highest scores of the season. The Titans bowlers actually did fairly well to limit the run scoring but were not discriminant enough when it came to changing up. Prasidh Krishna had the best bowling statistics with 2/22 off 4 overs. Shahrukh Khan played a supporting role with 1/13 off his single over. Sai Kishore took a wicket, but his economy was poor when he gave up 23 runs off 2.

Gujarat Titans Innings

Chasing down a large target, GT was bowled out for 147 in 18.3 overs, giving CSK a comfortable 83-run victory. Sai Sudharsan tried to solidify the innings with 41 runs off 28, while Arshad Khan (20 runs off 14) and Shahrukh Khan (19 runs off 15) offered resistance as well, but GT's run chase fell significantly short. Anshul Kamboj delivered a serious performance with the ball, with bowling statistics of 3/13 off 2.3 overs. Noor Ahmad backed that up with 3/21 off 4 overs, while Ravindra Jadeja was economical and effective, delivering 2/17 off 3 overs.

Dewald Brevis (Player of the Match): "I am happy and enjoying the game like a child. I told myself to just be calm and do what the team needed. Test cricket is the ultimate goal for me, but I am happy to contribute. It is a privilege for people to compare me with AB de Villiers. I would rather they say I am Dewald Brevis' as a player."

MS-Dhoni (CSK Captain): "A nearly perfect game in every department. I am still not 100% sure on my future—I won’t make a quick decision. It’s hard to take a back seat and take my time when I need to go home. Age doesn’t matter as much as fitness and hunger. Young players have stepped up, and once Ruturaj is back, we will feel more settled. And I definitely am starting to feel old!"

Noor Ahmad (Purple Cap, CSK): "It was nice to finish the season well, even though the season overall wasn't great for me. My favorite wicket today was the one I bowled. Everyone gave their best, and despite the ups and downs, that's cricket."

Shubman Gill (GT Captain): "We lost the game in the powerplay. It’s not easy chasing 230 runs, and we failed to cope with the pressure. The middle overs continue to hurt us, especially with a lack of breakthroughs. Tough to take at the moment, but looking forward to playing in Mohali again, my home ground."
