IPL 2025 has reached its halfway mark; the 43rd match is on the card. This season, so far, has surprised cricket fans in multiple ways: multiple all-time records have been shattered, evenings are packed with neck-to-neck rivalries, and multiple teams are in the race to confirm a playoff ticket. Only four teams will be booked for the next round, and the rest of the teams will have to wait for a brand-new season. Teams like Gujarat Titans, Delhi Capitals, and Royal Challengers Bengaluru are looking good enough to qualify for the next round. Contradictory, teams like Rajasthan Royals, Chennai Super Kings, and Sunrisers Hyderabad have so far experienced a very bumpy road.

Now, let's derive which team can qualify for the round of four and how (16— probable cut-off points)—

Gujarat Titans (GT): Shubman Gill-led Gujarat Titans is the frontrunner to enter into the upcoming stage. Lying in the number 3 spot with 12 points in 9 matches.

Delhi Capitals (DC): Axar Patel-led so far performed extremely well, got 12 points in 10 matches, and a spot in the playoffs seems only some inches away for them.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB): This time, under Rajat Patidar's leadership, RCB is looking more composed than before. Currently at the 1st spot, 14 points in 10 matches.

Mumbai Indians (MI): with all the experience gained from previous seasons, the way Mumbai Indians bounced back probably no one expected. Back-to-back wins have made them another contender for the playoffs. Currently at 2nd spot with 14 points in 10 matches.

Punjab Kings (PBKS): Despite multiple promising moments, Punjab Kings, led by Shreyas Iyer, are struggling to maintain their momentum, and for that, they are now 5th in the points table; 11 points in 9 matches.

Lucknow Super Giants (LSG): Despite a solid squad on pen and paper, Rishabh Pant's Lucknow Super Giants performance on the field has not yet justified their value. 10 points in 10 matches—that's all they have right now.

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR): The champion of IPL 2024 have 9 points in 10 matches. The defending champion is very near to exiting, but a glimmer of hope is still left.

Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH): Probably the most hyped team after the mega auction, now struck deep in the points table, currently at number 9 with 6 points in 9 matches.

Chennai Super Kings (CSK): A tumultuous season for the team; probably they need to find a good combination for next season. Now CSK, at 10th place in the ten-team league after playing 9 matches, got 4 points.

Rajasthan Royals (RR): With a bunch of exciting talents on board, RR's dream to qualify for the next round is probably all gone. Royals at number 8, has only 6 points in 10 matches.

<![CDATA[Why was Rashid Khan leading GT instead of Shubman Gill in IPL 2025 vs RR?]]> https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/why-was-rashid-khan-leading-gt-instead-of-shubman-gill-in-ipl-2025-vs-rr/ https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/why-was-rashid-khan-leading-gt-instead-of-shubman-gill-in-ipl-2025-vs-rr/ Tue, 29 Apr 2025 04:02:17 GMT

In a dramatic encounter in IPL 2025 on April 28, 2025, at Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur for Gujarat Titans (GT) vs. Rajasthan Royals (RR), Rashid Khan became the captain of GT in the second innings after Shubman Gill left the field due to mild back spasms. This (hopefully) preventative injury saw Ishant Sharma introduced as an Impact Substitute. The pressure was on as Rashid, GT's vice-captain, took over the duties as captain and was introduced to lead the side in the second half of the match. In a high-stakes chase in front of a boisterous crowd, Rashid remained calm and displayed his tactical acumen.

Ultimately, Gill scored 84 runs from 50 balls, and when you add to this Jos Buttler's quick-fire 50 runs from 26 balls, this propelled GT to an imposing score of 209/4 off 20 overs. The bowling effort of RR (especially Maheesh Theekshana 2/35) was unable to contain the GT players at the top of the order capitalizing on a batting-friendly surface. But it was also a major blow to the GT side, as Gill has helped shape the decision-making of the side on the field this IPL season. Rashid Khan's world-class leg-spin and experience took on board the challenge of trying to captain an ace bowling assault against a desperate RR batting line-up, which was desperate to keep their playoff hopes alive after a string of losses.

RR's innings was sparked by a brilliant effort from 14-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi, whose record-breaking 35-ball century for second-fastest in IPL history supported Yashasvi Jaiswal's unbeaten knock of 70 off 40 as RR chased down 210 in just 15.5 overs to win by eight wickets, with 25 balls remaining. While Rashid Khan took a wicket, GT's bowlers couldn't contain Suryavanshi's hit of an almighty bunch of sixes- to be exact. GT's loss meant they couldn't consolidate their top two spot, while RR's win, under stand-in captain Riyan Parag, kept their hopes alive in the playoffs.

Rashid's Moment to Prove

Rashid Khan was pleasantly surprised when he was made captain, even for one match, as it showed how much he had grown in stature in the IPL. While Rashid was better known for his world-class leg spin, he proved it was possible he could carry himself within the leadership role calmly and precisely. More information. While the game was an important part of growth and development, it will also be remembered as GT in the IPL 2025 season. Importantly, we would recall the great moment in which Rashid could lead when it mattered the most.

The 47th match of IPL 2025 was played between Rajasthan Royals and Gujarat Titans at Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur. In this match, the Gujarat Titans team had to face a crushing defeat. The Rajasthan Royals team has won this match very easily. Vaibhav Suryavanshi from the Rajasthan Royals team has created a storm by scoring a century in just 35 balls in this match.

Playing first in the match, the Gujarat team scored 209/4 in 20 overs, in response, the Rajasthan team scored 212/2 in just 15.5 overs and won the match. The credit for giving RR the win goes to Vaibhav Suryavanshi, who became the youngest batsman to score a century in the history of IPL.

Talking about this match, Gujarat Titans scored more than 200 on the strength of the top order. Gujarat Titans, who lost the toss and came to bat first, had a great start. Captain Shubman Gill, along with Sai Sudarshan, did not allow any setback in the powerplay and made a partnership of 93 runs for the first wicket. During this, Sudarshan scored 39 runs in 30 balls with the help of four fours and a six. From here Gill got the support of Jos Buttler. Both of them took the score beyond 150 but then the team got another setback and Gill was out after scoring 84 runs in 50 balls. Buttler held the fort till the end and played an unbeaten innings of 50 runs in 26 balls. Apart from this, Washington Sundar contributed 13 and Rahul Tewatia contributed 9 runs. At the same time, Shahrukh Khan remained unbeaten and scored 5 runs. Mahesh Teekshana got the maximum two wickets from Rajasthan Royals.

Vaibhav Suryavanshi's mass storm came in the run chase

Rajasthan Royals started very aggressively while chasing the target. RR scored 87 runs without any loss in the powerplay itself. During this, Vaibhav Suryavanshi scored the fastest half-century by any batsman in the current season in just 17 balls. Vaibhav continued to bat explosively and he also made the record of the fastest century by any Indian in IPL in just 35 balls. Vaibhav's bat came with an innings of 101 runs in 38 balls, which included seven fours and 11 sixes.

Yashasvi Jaiswal also played an excellent unbeaten innings of 70 runs in 40 balls. At the same time, captain Riyan Parag scored an unbeaten 32 runs in 15 balls. In this way, Rajasthan won in just 15.5 overs and made the record of achieving the target of 200 plus at the fastest pace by any team in IPL.

Rajasthan Royals (RR) won the match by eight wickets in a highly exciting match on 28 April 2025 at Sawai Mansingh Stadium. After chasing 210, RR chased it down successfully in 15.5 overs, backed by Vaibhav Suryavanshi, who made an explosive 101 off 38 balls, whereas Gujarat Titans (GT) batting never really held the pressure on RR. Let us look at the reasons for GT's loss.

First, GT was not able to defend what is a competitive total of 209/4 with poor bowling and no breakthroughs. RR's batsman didn't get snakes regarding GT's batting, especially in the power play and middle overs, with Suryavanshi and Yashasvi Jaiswal (70 off 40) both hitting the ball beautifully. Relief batting support came from Ryan Parag contributing 32 not out off 15 deliveries and then Jaiswal finishing like a rocket - which helped RR acceleration that never hindered their chase and made it an exciting match!

1. Inability to Contain Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s Explosive Batting

Suryavanshi's score of 101 not out off 38 balls (11×4s 5×6s) transgressed any impact by GT bowlers receiving meaningless curiosities of aan effectiveonly Rashid Khan (1/24 in 4 overs) and Prasidh Krishna (1/47 in 4) to Suryavanshi's impetuously aggressive and tthought-ut scoring. With SR ((265.79),he ruled the rrun ratein scalping both the powerplay score and during the middle overs, setting an unrelenting pace that GT couldn’t counter, leading RR to chase the target with 25 balls to spare.

2. Powerplay Struggles Against RR’s Top Order

GT experienced difficulties restraining RR's powerful batting line-up in the first overs because SSuryavanshi, along with Yashasvi Jaiswal (70 from 40 bballs),maintained quick scoring throughout the power phase. Inside the fielding rrestrictions,RR exploited the scoring opportunities effectively to build up their foundation before the batting restrictions. GT's bowlers started the match poorly because they let RR score runs freely during their first six oovers, which established a massive advantage for RR's batting team.

3. Missed Opportunities and Fielding Lapses

GT lost important opportunities that might have changed the game's momentum. Dropped catches and sloppy fielding enabled RR's batsmen to settle, especially Suryavanshi, whose innings took unstoppable momentum. Moreover, GT also failed to take advantage of RR's occasional mistakes, failing to grab important wickets at crucial points, which ultimately cost them in this high-scoring match.

On April 28, 2025, Rajasthan Royals (RR) put on an electrifying display to win by 8 wickets from Gujarat Titans (GT) in Match 47 of IPL 2025 at Sawai Mansingh Stadium, Jaipur. RR achieved the improbable task of chasing down 210 runs inside 15.5 overs.

Gujarat Titans Innings

GT posted a solid total of 209/4 after electing to bat. GT played aggressively in the first 10 overs with an opening partnership of 112 runs, with Shubman Gill whipping up 84 runs off 50 balls (8 fours, 3 sixes) and Jos Buttler blasting 50 runs off 26 balls. Sai Sudharsan made 39 runs off 30 balls before David Miller (18* off 8) and Rahul Tewatia (12* off 6) added fireworks at the end. RR's bowlers struggled to control GT's batting. Rashid Khan (1/24) took out Buttler, and Sandeep Sharma (1/33) removed Gill. Jofra Archer (1/49) and Prasidh Krishna (1/47) lacked control of the scoring in a fun wicket for batting.

Rajasthan Royals Innings

RR defeated GT by 8 wickets for a total of 212/6 in 15.5 overs! Vaibhav Suryavanshi's flamboyant innings of 101* runs off 38 balls made the fastest century by an Indian in IPL 2025, allowing him to build on 70 runs in 40 balls-a strike rate with Yashasvi Jaiswal before the two made a huge first-wicket partnership of 140 runs off 11 overs! Ryan Parag's innings of 32* off 15 balls allowed RR to win with 25 balls to spare after restoratively losing Sanju Samson (12 runs) and Riyan Parag (15 runs). GT's bowling unit did an okay job, with Maheesh Theekshana grabbing 2 wickets (2/35), Rashid Khan (1/24), and Prasidh Krishna (1/47), but they weren't effective at all and never intimidated the RR batsmen after getting smashed around the park!

RR vs GT: Post Match Reactions

Yashasvi Jaiswal (Rajasthan Royals): "Vaibhav played a phenomenal innings, one of the best innings I've witnessed. The way he batted today was pretty massive, and I hope he can continue in that mode. I was telling him to keep going, and we can see some incredible shots that just came off the bat, and he obviously has some quality training in the nets. His game and temperament are good for him to keep going. We also spoke about taking responsibility to close these games out; we have struggled lately to do that. The coach has spoken about how we should be taking this one game at a time to just focus on giving 100% and having fun playing cricket."

Shubman Gill (Gujarat Titans Captain): "I think Rajasthan capitalized on the powerplay, which credit to them. We missed a couple of opportunities, and it is easy to sit and say we could have done things differently, but when you are in it, it's a bit different. I sat out today because of a back spasm and was literally told to rest with a game on Monday. I don't think the past results matter now; we are only focused on the next game in Ahmedabad and trying to get some momentum. Vaibhav's knock was unbelievable; you take nothing away from his day today."

Riyan Parag (Rajasthan Royals Captain): "Vaibhav's innings was unbelievable. To come out and perform against GT's quality bowling on a big stage in front of a big crowd is special. We had slightly modified our approach to finishing games slightly earlier; we showed intent in the middle overs. I think when the one batter was set, the other batter could provide support, and it really did work well for us tonight."

Vaibhav Suryavanshi (Player of the Match): "Scoring my first IPL hundred in my third innings feels amazing. Months of practice paid off. I focus on each ball’s merit, not the bowler. Batting with Jaiswal is great; his positivity motivates me. This century is a dream come true, and I play without fear, focusing on my game."

In the 47th match of the IPL 2025, Rajasthan Royals vs Gujarat Titans (RR vs GT) has been scheduled. Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur will host this fixture on Monday evening (April 28). It will be their second meeting this season, while Titans won by 58 runs against Royals in Ahmedabad during their first clash of the season.

While it will be the ninth match for Gujarat Titans, who are leading the IPL 2025 points table with 12 points, recording six wins and two losses, the ninth-placed Rajasthan Royals will play their 10th match this season. The inaugural IPL champions RR have recorded two victories and seven defeats. Gujarat Titans have won their last two games, while Royals have lost all their last five matches, including a Super Over defeat against Delhi Capitals and a two-run defeat against Lucknow Super Giants.

IPL 2025, Match 47: RR vs GT - Playing XIs Status

Rajasthan Royals are completely clueless now. Suffering two close defeats in their last three fixtures has hurt them hugely to become the unlikely teams to reach the Playoffs for this season. While Yashasvi Jaiswal is in dream form with the bat by scoring 40+ runs five times in the last six games, including four half-centuries, some other RR batters have failed to capitalise on their starts regularly. Only Wanindu Hasaranga and Jofra Archer have proven as the regular wicket-takers in the team in recent times. The squad may need some crucial changes.

Gujarat Titans are strongly proving themselves in this tournament with their consistent performances. Both batting (especially top-order batting) and bowling (especially pacers) units are doing remarkably well. There is no need to change the playing squad.

Although the teams are even on points but GT currently have the advantage with a better net run rate, as well as an extra games remaining.

In the last encounter when both these heavyweights clashed, GT edged a thrilling victory on the road thanks to B Sai Sudharsan's brilliance at GT's home stadium. Now with the match taking place in gujarat.
