Just after the end of the five-match Test series between England and India, the focus has shifted to the white-ball assignments for the upcoming Asia Cup 2025, which will be played in the shortest format, keeping in mind the upcoming T20 World Cup 2026 in India and Sri Lanka. All the games will be played across Dubai and Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

For the T20 format, India’s balance comes in the presence of the pace bowling all-rounder, Hardik Pandya. The right-handed batter has the skill of smashing the big shots late in the batting order, while he could also provide a few overs with the ball in the middle overs or even in the powerplay if needed.

A video has gone viral recently, when Hardik has been seen to return to Mumbai after completing his fitness test at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) ahead of the competition. The assessment took place on August 11 and 12, with the star training in Mumbai before that for quite some time.

The reports added that, along with Hardik, the T20I captain of the side, Suryakumar Yadav and Shreyas Iyer, were also present in the fitness check. The former hasn’t recovered fully from the hernia surgery that he went through a few months ago and needs another week at the NCA to regain fitness. However, that shouldn’t affect his chances of playing in the Asia Cup.

Hardik has overall smacked 1812 runs in 90 innings of the T20Is at an average of 27.87 and a strike rate of 141.67 with the help of five half-centuries at the best score of unbeaten 71 runs. With the ball, the right-arm pacer has picked up 94 scalps in 102 innings at an average of 26.43 and an economy rate of 8.20.

The Baroda all-rounder was in excellent form during the recently concluded IPL 2025 for the Mumbai Indians, where he drilled 224 runs in 12 innings at an average of 24.88 and a strike rate of 163.50, besides claiming 14 wickets at an economy rate of under 10. India’s opening game of the Asia Cup 2025 will be against the UAE on September 10.

The former Protea captain, Ab de Villiers, has recently opened up on the final of the T20 World Cup 2024 when India snatched victory from the South Africa side at the Kensington Oval in Barbados. Even though many reckon that it was Surya Kumar Yadav’s catch to dismiss David Miller or Rishabh Pant’s smart tactic to delay the game that saved them, de Villiers had a different thought process.

De Villiers reckoned that the game was widely open for a long time as Heinrich Klassen was batting exceptionally well. He revealed that when the wicket-keeper got out, the game started to shift from the Aiden Markram-led side.

‘I think the ultimate is still stacked against us. Even though Klassen batted exceptionally well, I always knew the ball got a bit softer, and if we lose one wicket, it’s gonna open up widely, you know, and that ended up happening. Batting first, the Blue Brigade posted 176/7 in their 20 overs, thanks to the 76-run knock from Virat Kohli, while Axar Patel drilled 47 runs in 31 balls. They kept the Proteas for 169/8 to earn a victory by seven runs.  

‘If Klassen batted for three more overs, we would have won, in my opinion. Even if he just took once and just extended the game a bit. So, his getting out really sort of took the momentum out of the sails, and then obviously, the little moments happened. But that’s what it is. I think Panyda handled the final over exceptionally well. You got to give it to him.’ Ab de Villiers concluded.

Mumbai Indians defeated Delhi Capitals in the last match, and today they have made a strong comeback in IPL 2025 by defeating Hyderabad team. Mumbai Indians had a target of 163 runs in this match; in response, Mumbai Indians achieved the target at the loss of 5 wickets.

 Talking about this match, the Sunrisers Hyderabad team, who came to bat first after losing the toss, had a great start. In the 16th match of IPL 2025, played at Lucknow’s Ekana Stadium, Lucknow Super Giants won against Mumbai Indians. LSG Batting first, Lucknow scored 203 runs. Jacob Duffy Becomes No. 1 T20I Bowler, Hardik Pandya Stays on Top as No. 1 All-Rounder

New Zealand fast bowler Jacob Duffy has climbed to the No. 1 spot in the ICC T20I bowling rankings after his brilliant performance in the 4-1 series win against Pakistan. Duffy was in top form, taking 13 wickets in the series to finish as the leading wicket-taker against Pakistan.
