The 36th match of IPL 2025 between Mumbai Indians (MI) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) is currently taking place at the Wankhede Stadium. After being asked to bat first on a relatively flat track, SRH managed to post a fighting total of 162 runs. While it wasn’t a massive score, the pitch conditions and previous records suggested it could still be competitive, especially if SRH’s bowlers managed to strike early in the innings and build pressure.

MI got off to a confident start, reaching 66/1 by the end of the powerplay. In the 7th over, bowled by Zeeshan Ansari, Ryan Rickelton played a sharp shot straight to cover, where SRH captain Pat Cummins made a clean diving catch. The fielders erupted in celebration, thinking they had secured a crucial breakthrough. However, the excitement was short-lived, as an unexpected intervention from the fourth umpire brought the game to a temporary halt and created confusion on the field.

The on-field umpire called for a review following the fourth umpire’s observation. Upon inspection, the delivery was ruled a no-ball due to a wicketkeeping error. Replays showed SRH’s Heinrich Klaasen had his gloves positioned ahead of the stumps at the striker’s end when the ball struck the bat. As per the rules, this is considered illegal, and the delivery was disqualified. The decision not only gave Rickelton a lifeline but also swung the momentum slightly in MI’s favor during a crucial phase of the match.

What does the law say?

According to the MCC Laws of Cricket, it is stated that the wicketkeeper must stay entirely behind the wicket at the striker’s end from the moment the ball comes into play until it either contacts the bat or the batter, passes the wicket at that end, or the batter attempts a run. If this rule is violated, the umpire is instructed to call and signal a no-ball.

Klaasen’s premature movement resulted in the delivery being declared illegal under the laws, giving Rickelton a lifeline and costing SRH a crucial breakthrough. Heading into this contest, both Mumbai Indians and Sunrisers Hyderabad found themselves in similar positions—each with just two wins from six matches. With their campaigns faltering, both sides were in dire need of a win to gain momentum and improve their standings on the IPL 2025 points table.

Top 3 Captain choices

Sai Sudharsan: In-form Sai Sudharsan is the second leading run-scorer in the IPL 2025 with 186 runs in three innings by scoring 74, 63, and 49 runs, respectively.

Travis Head: Among the SRH top-order batters, only Australian star Travis Head is in form with the scores of 67, 47, 22, and four runs, respectively. If he gets enough support from the other batters, Head can produce a powerful start for his team.

In the tough bowling pitch in Hyderabad, skipper Cummins bowled impressively in their last game against the Lucknow Super Giants. His cameo with the bat will also play a crucial role in the batting.

Top 3 Vice-captain choices

Jos Buttler: English star Jos Buttler started the IPL 2025 strongly with scores of 54, 39, and 73 not out, respectively. The Hyderabad venue generally produces batting-friendly pitches in recent T20 cricket, and Buttler can be one of the dangerous batters in the match.

Mohammed Siraj: Although Mohammed Siraj started the IPL 2025 with a wicketless expensive bowling figures (0/54), the right-arm pacer scalped five wickets in the next two games, including picking up three wickets (3/19) in their last match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru to win the Player of the Match award.

Heinrich Klaasen: Dangerous batter Heinrich Klaasen is one of the most consistent middle-order batters in present-day white-ball cricket. While his team had batting woes in their last three fixtures, Klaasen's scores in this IPL season were 34, 26, 32, and 33 runs, respectively.

Kolkata Knight Riders' (KKR) Vaibhav Arora delivered a fiery performance against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in Match 15 of the IPL 2025 at Eden Gardens, Kolkata, on Thursday. The right arm quick bowler made an impact early, dismissing key players Travis Head and Ishan Kishan within the powerplay.

However, tensions seemed to rise when he claimed the crucial wicket of Heinrich Klaasen, who was looking to take charge in the second innings. The fast bowler delivered a well-placed short ball, forcing a top-edge from the pull shot, which landed safely in the hands of Moeen Ali at square leg. However, it was Arora’s celebration and what followed that grabbed attention. Raising his arms in triumph, Arora celebrated the crucial wicket that sealed SRH’s fate.

As Heinrich Klaasen walked back to the dugout, Arora engaged in a brief stare down with the South African international, adding intensity to the moment. For this splendid bowling performance, the right-arm quick bowler was even awarded the Player of the Match Award.  The 27-year-old pacer ended the game with a bowling figure of 3/29 in his allotted 4 overs with one maiden over.

Kolkata Knight Riders won by massive 80 runs

Defending a challenging total, KKR’s bowlers came out firing. SRH had a disastrous start, losing Travis Head for just four runs to Vaibhav Arora on the second ball of the chase. Harshit Rana followed up with a brilliant over, deceiving Abhishek Sharma with a slower ball. With their aggressive left-handed top three dismissed within the first three overs, SRH found themselves in deep trouble at 9/3.

Arora continued his impressive spell, finishing with figures of 4-1-29-3, including the crucial wicket of Heinrich Klaasen with a well-placed slower bouncer. Sunil Narine, marking his 200th wicket for KKR, delivered an economical spell, though he narrowly missed dismissing Klaasen due to an unnoticed edge.

Varun Chakravarthy (3-22) was lethal in the middle overs, striking twice in the 16th over, including the key wicket of Pat Cummins. Andre Russell (2-20) wrapped up the innings with a sharp caught-and-bowled effort as SRH collapsed for just 120 in 17 overs.

Sunil Narine's batting troubles continued as he was bowled early in Kolkata Knight Riders' (KKR) match against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the 15th match of IPL 2025 at Eden Gardens, Kolkata.

Batting in the opening slot, Narine made 7 runs off 7 balls, including a six, before being bowled by a masterful ball from Mohammed Shami in the third over.

Sunil Narine Dismissed Early

Shami served a timely yorker outside off-stump on the third delivery of the over. Narine, in an attempt to play for room, stepped back and attempted to cut the ball to the off-side. But the ball hit an edge before his bat could land on the ground. Wicketkeeper Heinrich Klaasen reacted quickly, diving to the right to take a wonderful catch.

Although there was a definite edge, Narine seemed to be in a trance. The doubt came because his bat hit the ground around the same time as the ball hit the edge.

Although KKR lost initial momentum, they managed to post a decent score of 200/6 in 20 overs, giving their bowlers a good target to defend.

IPL 2025, Match 7: SRH vs LSG Dream11 Top Captains And Vice-captains

Top 3 Captain's choices

Travis Head: While SRH have the most dangerous batting line-up, Aussie cricketer Travis Head plays the crucial starter role for his team, which exactly matches with his batting character. While the IPL 2024 runners-up SRH started the IPL 2025 with the second-highest IPL total, Head set up the status with his firing 67 off 31 balls with nine fours and three sixes.

Mitchell Marsh: Despite playing the IPL 2025 only as a batter due to his recovery process from his injury, Australian cricketer Mitchell Marsh highly impressed with the bat during LSG's first game in the IPL 2025, where the opener recorded his joint fastest T20 50 runs in 21 balls and scored 72 off 36 balls with six fours and six sixes to provide a solid start for his team.

Nicholas Pooran: Caribbean cricketer Nicholas Pooran is one of the busiest T20 cricketers at present, as he holds the most T20 runs record since 2024 with a massive 190+ sixes, as he is one of the most dangerous T20 batters at present. In their season opener, while Pooran was dropped early, he punished the Delhi Capitals with his 75 off 30 balls with six fours and seven sixes.

Top 3 Vice-captain's choices

Ishan Kishan: What a stunning comeback for Ishan Kishan as he slammed the first century in the IPL 2025 by scoring 106 not out off 47 balls with 11 fours and six sixes to guide SRH to the second-highest total in IPL history. Now, the left-handed batter has to prove his improvement by performing consistently.

Shardul Thakur: After remaining unsold in the mega auctions, Shardul Thakur is outstanding. After his incredible domestic cricket season as an all-rounder, Thakur has joined LSG as a replacement and picked up two wickets in his first over of the IPL 2025. Despite bowling well in his two overs, Thakur was not allowed to complete his quota, and LSG suffered a surprise one-wicket defeat against Delhi Capitals. So, the importance of Thakur for LSG was very clear in their season opener.

Heinrich Klaasen: South African cricketer Heinrich Klaasen is now one of the most dangerous middle-order batters, who is popular for his incredible consistency with the bat, along with powerful hits. In their first game of the IPL 2025, while SRH recorded the second-highest IPL total, Klaasen had an effective cameo of 34 off 14 balls with five fours and one six.

HEINRICH KLAASEN

Heinrich Klaasen is a Fear for bowlers because of his ability to hit massive sixes. The South African batter is one of the best when it comes to sending the ball into the stands. It doesn’t matter who the bowler is or where they pitch the ball, if Klaasen connects, it’s gone. From 2023, only one player has hit more sixes than Heinrich Klaasen (168) in T20s. Playing for Sunrisers Hyderabad in IPL 2025, he has freedom to hit the big and massive strokes. Don’t be surprised if he smashes the longest six of the tournament.

In IPL 2024, Heinrich Klaasen was a key player for Sunrisers Hyderabad. He played 16 matches and scored 479 runs at a strong strike rate of 171.07 and an average of 39.91. His best score was 80 (not out), and he smashed 38 sixes and 19 fours. With four half-centuries, Klaasen is a big hitter and an important player of SRH’s batting lineup. Heinrich Klaasen hit a massive 106-meter six in the RCB vs SRH match during IPL 2024. It was the longest six of the tournament and even landed on the roof of Chinnaswamy Stadium.

The inaugural ICC Champions Trophy winners South Africa have started their journey in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 on Friday (February 21) with their Group B fixture against Afghanistan at the National Stadium in Karachi. While the Proteas have already missed a few of their regular players before the tournament, their in-form explosive batter missed out on their tournament opener due to an injury.

In-form Heinrich Klaasen misses South Africa's CT 2025 opener

The 33-year-old explosive middle-order batter Heinrich Klaasen has missed out on South Africa's tournament opener against Afghanistan. He has been ruled out from the game as a precautionary measure due to a left elbow soft tissue injury. Since last December, South Africa have played four ODIs, and Klaasen scored 86, 97, 81, and 87 runs, respectively. Since 2024, Klaasen has been the leading ODI run-scorer for South Africa.

South Africa will face Australia and England in the remaining two matches of the group stage. While Rawalpindi will host their next fixture against Australia on February 25, England will be their last group stage opponent on March 1 at Karachi. It will be interesting to see whether Klaasen becomes fit sooner or the Proteas face another blow.

Tristan Stubbs isn't in the playing XI

Meanwhile, Tristan Stubbs is unlikely South Africa's first-choice player for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, as he wasn't selected in the playing XI for the Afghanistan match. The 24-year-old has played eight ODIs, where he has recorded one century and one half-century with a batting average of 41.50 and a strike rate of 89.89.

While South Africa are struggling in the recent ODI matches, it is an important tournament for them. The wound of the shocking ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024 Final defeat against India is still very fresh for them, and this Champions Trophy is a serious journey beginning for them in the ODI format looking ahead to the next ICC Men's Cricket World Cup, which South Africa will host along with Zimbabwe and Namibia in late 2027.
