Piyush Chawla was signed as a wildcard pick by Abu Dhabi Knight Riders ahead of the auction. The spinner, who played for Kolkata Knight Riders from 2014 to 2019, returns to the KKR family in a new tournament after six years. The Gulf region’s biggest T20 cricket league is set for a grand launch as internationally acclaimed singer Ali Zafar headlines the opening ceremony of the DP World ILT20 Season 4. The much-anticipated tournament begins on Tuesday, December 2, coinciding with the UAE National Day (Eid-Al-Etihad), at the iconic Dubai International Stadium. Festivities are scheduled to begin at 6:00 pm local time, setting the tone for a memorable cricketing spectacle.

The glittering ceremony will be followed by the opening clash of the season at 6:45 pm, with defending champions Dubai Capitals taking on last year’s finalists, Desert Vipers. The matchup is a repeat of the dramatic Season 3 finale, where the Capitals clinched victory in the final over before a roaring 25,000-strong crowd. Stadium gates will open at 4:00 pm to allow fans to soak in the celebrations from the start.

Ticket sales for the opening day are already in high demand, with limited seats available across categories. Stand tickets begin at AED 20, while hospitality packages start at AED 325. Fans seeking a premium experience can also opt for the Sixes Lounge, priced at AED 395, which includes unlimited food and beverages. League CEO and Ali Zafar promise a dazzling start to ILT20 Season 4

DP World ILT20 CEO David White expressed his excitement ahead of the big day. “We are delighted to announce a glittering opening ceremony to mark the start of the DP World International League T20 Season 4. It is an honour for the league and all our stakeholders to join the UAE in its National Day celebrations,” he said. White added that Ali Zafar’s performance will be the highlight of an evening designed to thrill fans worldwide.

Ali Zafar, too, shared his enthusiasm. “I’m really excited to return to Dubai for my performance at the ILT20 opening ceremony. Dubai has always welcomed me warmly, and performing on UAE National Day is a massive honour,” he said. Zafar also revealed that he will debut songs from his upcoming album Roshni during the ceremony.

The evening will conclude with a spectacular fireworks display themed around UAE National Day, promising fans an unforgettable start to a month-long cricket extravaganza.

In a significant development for the sport, Saudi Arabia has made its official entry into mainstream cricket by signing a 15-year strategic agreement with the International League T20 (ILT20). The agreement is intended to develop Saudi cricket within the international framework, with plans to host league matches in the Kingdom and introduce a Saudi-based franchise in a future season.

As part of this agreement, the Saudi Arabian Cricket Federation (SACF) has sanctioned and licensed the DP World ILT20, sanctioned by the Emirates Cricket Board, as an official T20 league for men and women to play matches in Saudi Arabia in future seasons. The agreement will also provide that all six ILT20 franchises include at least one Saudi player in their squads from Season 4 onwards, which will take place from December 2, 2025, until January 4, 2026.

In a statement, the ILT20 stated this will create a direct pathway for Saudi players to participate in the league, getting exposure and experience playing alongside international stars. Over the years, ILT20 has featured some of the most recognizable names in cricket, including David Warner, Dwayne Bravo, and Jonathan Trott.

ILT20 Chairman Khalid Al Zarooni expressed his enthusiasm, saying, "We are very proud to announce our partnership with the Saudi Arabian Cricket Federation. Saudi Arabia is an important part of the Gulf region, and to see its ambition to develop cricket is fantastic." 

Prince Saud Bin Mishal Al-Saud, Chair of the SACF, said that the agreement of a partnership demonstrates Saudi Arabia's commitment to developing cricket players as well as advancing its wider sports agenda. "It also allows for an ongoing convergence of fan engagement and provides a new commercial pathway to develop the game with both infrastructure and tourism," he communicated. 

This agreement demonstrates Saudi Arabia's significant progress in becoming a regional cricketing superpower and continuing to diversify its sports ecosystem as part of Vision 2030.
