A commendable victory for India A team chasing Australia A (IND A vs AUS A) team's first innings: 316 runs at the Green Park Stadium in Kanpur. Punjab Kings, the runner-up of the previous Indian Premier League season, from their official social media platforms shared an appreciation post for the batter's heroic innings in Kanpur. In the IPL 2025, the batter was one of the key instruments for PBKS' dominating run in the group stage. 

Recently, the BCCI Vice President, Rajiv Shukla, clarified that the health scare that affected the Australia A camp in Kanpur during their one-day series against India A. Several Australian players reportedly caught an infection, but Shukla clarified that there were no issues with the quality of the food. Four players, including the captain, were affected by stomach infections during the tour, with Henry Thornton admitted to Regency Hospital after his condition worsened, while the other three were treated and released after medical checks.

Shukla emphasized that the meals served to the players were safe and sourced from one of the finest restaurants in the city. Team sources had hinted at a possible link to the hotel meals, but Shukla dismissed these concerns. “If there had been an issue with the food, all players, including the Indian players, would have fallen sick. It must have been something else. They are being fed food from one of the finest hotels, the food is good, and everyone is eating the same. Since a few players have fallen ill, they may have contracted an infection, and we are handling it," he told reporters.

The event has brought attention to hospitality and food arrangements, particularly in leagues such as the IPL when international players are in India and eat in the best hotels and restaurants. Shukla explained the difference, and the logistical issues in Kanpur.

Logistics and Arrangements Could Have Helped

Shukla pointed out that IPL arrangements differ because franchises handle all hospitality and food for players. “The issue arises because there aren't many hotels. We need 300 rooms in a five-star hotel, and that's not available. There is no international airport in the area that operates 24/7. Had better arrangements been in place, they would have gained an advantage,” he said.

Despite the health scare, India A won the first unofficial ODI, but Australia A bounced back with a dominant nine-wicket win in the second match, leveling the series at 1-1. The series continued without further major health issues.

Australia A had to use seven bowlers, but the visitors had no clue at all. Captain Will Sutherland was their only bowler to pick up more than one wicket in that innings, as he had the bowling figures of 9-0-73-2.

In reply, Australia A were bowled out for only 242 runs in 33.1 overs, as India A won by 171 runs, their largest List A win against Australia A and fourth largest win against any team in this format. While the opener Mackenzie Harvey (68) and skipper Will Sutherland (50) scored half-centuries, Lachlan Shaw (45), Cooper Connolly (33), and Jake Fraser-McGurk (23) failed to capitalise on their quick starts. 

Among the India A bowlers, Nishant Sindhu got four wickets, as he had the bowling figures of 6.1-0-50-4, while Ravi Bishnoi got two wickets in his eight overs (2/49). While Australia A were once fighting at 169/2 in the 21st over, they ultimately failed to handle the constant high required run rate pressure.

A major blow for India ahead of the India vs West Indies Test series, as their star pacer Prasidh Krishna left the field with an injury threat. During Day 2 of India A vs Australia A In a second unofficial test match at Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium, Lucknow, a bouncer hit Krishna's helmet. After a while, he had to leave the field.

The team physio quickly rushed onto the field and performed a concussion test. After that, Krishna remained on the crease for a while but was not able to continue for a long time and eventually retired hurt.

BCCI can drop Prasidh Krishna from the Test squad vs West Indies 

The day was already tough for the India A team, and then there was the injury threat of Prasidh Krishna. Yash Thakur has replaced him as a concussion sub, as Krishna will take no further part in the match, claimed media reports. 

Ahead of the India vs West Indies two-match Test series, multiple star players are performing for India A against Australia A. Krishna was with Team India during the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy in England and played multiple matches as well, including the series decider game at The Oval. But overall the pacer lacked consistency. It is also being claimed that Krishna can be dropped from the India squad for the West Indies Test series. 

Five-wicket haul for Manav Suthar ahead of BCCI's squad announcement for the India vs West Indies 2-match Test series, which is scheduled to start in October this year. During the second unofficial India A vs Australia A Test match, Suthar claimed 5 wickets, the best performance by any Indian bowler in the innings. He took the wickets of Oliver Peake, Cooper Connolly, Josh Philippe, Will Sutherland, and Corey Rocchiccioli. Suthar delivered 32 overs, which was also the most by an Indian bowler in the innings, and took 5 wickets at an economy rate of 3.34. 

The Rajasthan-born had been in stunning form during the Ranji Trophy's previous season. He performed well with both bat and ball. In his last Ranji Trophy match with Rajasthan, the all-rounder picked up 4 wickets against Andhra Pradesh and registered a half century as well. Team skipper Nathan McSweeney praised the young Indian all-rounder for his class performance. After the stumps of Day 1, the Aussie batter said that the left-arm bowler's speed variation and consistency impressed him a lot.

A five-wicket haul ahead of India vs West Indies Test series 

"I thought their left-arm spinner (Manav Suthar) bowled beautifully. He bowled quite slowly in the first session, and the way he was able to be really consistent in the second, changing his pace, he got a few wickets. He was building pressure today. It was the second century from India A team in the 1st unofficial test. Dhruv Jurel scored a hundred yesterday, and then it was Padikkal who stretched his innings for 150 off 281. During this knock, he smashed 14 boundaries and one over-boundary. Against Australia A's first innings of 532/6d, the partnership between Padikkal and Jurel proved to be the match-saver for the home team.

Before that, Narayan Jagadeesan, Sai Sudharsan, and Abhimanyu Easwaran batted nicely; Jagadeesan and Sudharshan scored half centuries as well, but against such a mammoth total, the hosts needed some big knocks, which were provided by Jurel and Padikkal.
