Harmeet Singh returned to familiar grounds during the IND vs USA match at Wankhede Stadium. Once a young talent in Mumbai, Singh had to take a long path to reach international cricket. The left-arm spinner now plays for the USA national cricket team. In the match, he was excellent with the ball, giving up only 26 runs in 4 overs and taking two crucial wickets, those of Hardik Pandya and Axar Patel.

On his return to Mumbai, fans remembered his past. Harmeet was born and raised in Mumbai and played for the India U19 team that won the 2012 World Cup. He also played in the IPL.

Netizens also reminded people of an incident from 2017. At that time, Singh was not part of the USA team and was living in Mumbai. He was arrested for driving his car onto the platform at Andheri Railway Station.

Harmeet Singh’s Journey from Mumbai to USA Cricket Star

Harmeet Singh has had a long and eventful cricket journey. He was a key player in the 2012 India U-19 World Cup-winning team. After playing in the IPL, Singh moved to the USA to restart his career. He made his debut for the United States in 2024 and has since played 22 ODIs and 25 T20Is.

Overcoming Controversies and Challenges

In 2017, Singh drove his car onto the platform at the Andheri Railway Station in the early morning. The platform was crowded with passengers, and many panicked. Singh controlled the vehicle and stopped it safely next to the tracks. He was also questioned in the 2013 IPL spot-fixing case but was cleared by the police.

Despite these challenges, Harmeet Singh has grown into a star of American cricket. He has been a regular player for the USA and continues to shine with his performances.

Former India player Cheteshwar Pujara praised Mohammed Siraj for his energetic bowling spell in India’s T20 World Cup 2026 match against the United States of America (USA). He said it is not easy for any player to be called into the squad just two days before a big match.

India scored 161/9 after being asked to bat first in the Group A match in Mumbai on Saturday, February 7. Siraj then bowled an impressive spell of 3/29 in four overs. His effort helped the defending champions restrict USA to 132/8 and secure a 29-run win.

Speaking on Star Sports, Pujara shared his thoughts on Siraj’s performance after he was named as an injury replacement for Harshit Rana.

“He comes with a lot of energy. On the field, he never lacks intensity, no matter which format he plays. Watching him bowl, it did not look like he had been away from T20 cricket for a long time. He is always ready. Whenever he gets a chance, he gives his full effort for the team,” Pujara said.

Pujara Praises Siraj’s Energy and Team Impact

Cheteshwar Pujara said Mohammed Siraj also plays an important role in keeping the dressing room atmosphere positive. He added that Siraj is a key player for India and praised his mindset after getting a sudden call-up.

“It is not easy for any player when you get a sudden call and have to play a match after two days. Despite that, the way he performed yesterday was impressive. Going forward, there will be big expectations from him in this World Cup,” Pujara said.

Siraj made an early impact by dismissing Andries Gous (6 off 9), who was caught by Tilak Varma at point on his fourth ball. In his next over, he removed Saiteja Mukkamalla (2 off 7), caught by Varun Chakaravarthy at midwicket. He completed his three-wicket haul by trapping Shubham Ranjane (37 off 22) lbw with his final delivery.

Pujara Lauds Suryakumar Yadav’s Captain’s Knock

In the same interaction, Pujara also spoke about Suryakumar Yadav’s knock when India were under pressure against the USA.

“The first three or four overs went well, but after six wickets fell, the way Suryakumar Yadav batted was outstanding. He used the crease very well. We know he is a 360-degree player, and he showed that under pressure. I think he is one of the best T20 players,” Pujara said.

The former Indian batter added that Suryakumar played a true captain’s knock and felt the Indian skipper would have a strong tournament.

“His form was slightly off for a while, but recently he has been batting very well. He carried that form into this World Cup. In the very first match, he showed why he is the captain and why expectations are so high. I am sure this T20 World Cup will go very well for him,” Pujara added.

Suryakumar Yadav remained unbeaten on 84 off 49 balls, hitting 10 fours and four sixes. His innings helped India reach a defendable total after they were struggling at 77/6.

The 22-run partnership off 14 deliveries between Suryakumar Yadav and Arshdeep provided India the required momentum as the blue brigade struggled on a tricky surface. India began their ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 campaign with a win over the United States. After the match, pacer Mohammed Siraj spoke about his unexpected return to the T20I side. He replaced the injured Harshit Rana and made an immediate impact. Siraj admitted he never expected to be part of the World Cup squad.

Siraj revealed that he had personal plans before getting the call. “My plan was that on the 15th, there was a Real Madrid match, and I was going to watch it,” he said. With Ramadan approaching, he had planned his time accordingly. “But whatever God has written will happen,” Siraj added, saying destiny played its role.

The fast bowler also shared how shocked he felt when he got the news. “I felt I was not destined to play the tournament,” Siraj said, as he had not featured much in T20Is recently. He explained how Suryakumar Yadav personally informed him about the selection. “God had written all this, no one can change it,” Siraj said.

Siraj said his motivation while bowling was emotional, as playing a World Cup is every player’s dream. He focused on bowling wicket to wicket with the new ball, using the same line and length he used in domestic cricket. “That was the plan, and I executed it,” he said. The approach helped India apply early pressure.

Star Indian all-rounder Axar Patel struck twice in one over to put the USA under pressure in their T20 World Cup 2026 match. This was the first game of the tournament for both teams. Batting first, India posted a fighting total of 161/9.

In reply, the USA lost early wickets and slipped to 13/3. Milind Kumar scored 34 runs, while Sanjay Krishnamurthi made 37 and showed some resistance in the middle. As a partnership was building between Sanjay and Shubham Ranjane, Axar Patel changed the game in the 16th over by taking two quick wickets.

Axar first dismissed Sanjay, who tried to play a slog sweep but failed to connect, allowing Rinku Singh to take an easy catch at deep mid-wicket. On the very next ball, Axar removed Harmeet Singh for a first-ball duck. Harmeet also attempted a slog sweep, and Mohammed Siraj completed the catch.

Axar Patel Breaks USA’s Chase

After Axar Patel’s double strike, the USA were reduced to 98/6. His excellent over broke their momentum and damaged their chances of getting close to India’s total. From that point, the visitors struggled to put up a strong fight in the chase.

Axar Shines with Bat and Ball

Axar Patel proved his value with the ball against the USA. He picked up two important wickets at a key stage of the match. He also bowled tight lines and lengths, which did not allow the batters to score freely. Axar finished with figures of 2/24 from his four overs at an economy rate of 6.00.

Earlier, Axar also made a useful contribution with the bat. Coming lower down the order, he scored 14 runs off 11 balls, including two boundaries. He shared an important 41-run partnership with captain Suryakumar Yadav. India won the match by 29 runs and started their T20 World Cup 2026 campaign on a positive note. India began their ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 tournament campaign on a winning note as they beat the United States of America by 29 runs in Match 3 of the tournament, played on February 7, Tuesday, at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. While batting first, India could only manage to score 161/9 in 20 overs, losing initial wickets, but a calm and confident knock by Captain Suryakumar Yadav, who remained unbeaten on 84 runs off 49 balls, helped India reach a fighting total.

The USA bowlers gave a good account of themselves, with Shadley van Schalkwyk bowling an excellent spell, taking four wickets for 25 runs. The breakthroughs he took at key intervals kept India under pressure, thereby restricting them from big scores.

In reply, the USA fought well and could score 132/8 in their 20 overs. Sanjay Krishnamurthi and Shubham Ranjane scored the highest, making 37 runs each, but the chase was not managed due to frequent wickets. India defeated the United States of America by 29 runs in Group A Match 3 of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026. The match was played on February 7 at the packed Wankhede Stadium. After choosing to bat first, India struggled from the beginning but was able to put up a competitive score and hold on to it.

India's innings got off to a stuttering start, and the top order was under pressure. Abhishek Sharma was dismissed for a golden duck, while Ishan Kishan (20) and Tilak Varma (25) could not convert their starts. At one stage, India were reduced to 46/4. The USA bowlers kept the scoring tight and forced mistakes.

Captain Suryakumar Yadav then took charge and steadied the innings. He played a brilliant unbeaten knock of 84 off 49 balls. His late assault, which included 21 runs in the final over, lifted India to 161/9. That late charge proved to be handy and gave them something substantial to defend. The USA bowlers were impressive for most of the innings with their discipline. Shadley van Schalkwyk stood out with excellent figures of 4/25. Ali Khan took early wickets, and spinners Mohammad Mohsin and Harmeet Singh dominated the middle overs. India had to work hard for every run until the final over burst.

Mohammad Siraj’s Dive and India’s Bowling Control

During the USA chase, a dramatic moment came in the 4.1 over. Arshdeep Singh bowled a good-length delivery that moved away sharply. Milind Kumar edged the ball towards short third man. Mohammed Siraj produced a stunning full-length dive and got both hands to the ball. However, as he landed, the ball slipped out, and the catch was dropped, allowing a single.

Despite that missed chance, India’s bowlers stayed calm and in control. The USA received fighting contributions from Sanjay Krishnamurthi and Shubham Ranjane, who scored 37 each, while Milind Kumar added 34. But the rising run rate forced risky shots late in the innings. Siraj recovered well to finish with 3/29, Arshdeep took 2/18, and support from Axar Patel and Varun Chakaravarthy sealed the game as the USA were restricted to 132/8.

It was the final delivery of the 12th over of the innings from the third encounter of the T20 World Cup 2026 at the iconic Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai between India and United States of America (USA) when Ishan Kishan got a funny run-out to dismiss the USA batter, Milind Kumar, who had no idea of the ball from Varun Chakravarthy.

The right-handed batter was beaten by the googly on his inside edge as the ball went past his bat to the wicket-keeper, Ishan Kishan, who fumbled to collect the delivery at the start before seeing Milind trying to snatch a run, which eventually saw the keeper breaking the stumps and dismissing the batter for 34 runs in as many balls.

The USA didn’t get a great start with the bat as they lost their first three wickets for just 13 runs on the board in 3.2 overs. Andries Goes smashed a fine six down the ground against Mohammad Siraj, who had the last laugh against the right-handed batter.

The USA captain, Monark Patel, who missed the previous WC clash against India due to an injured hand while celebrating the victory against Pakistan, returned for a two-ball duck as the ball ballooned in the air while he looked to go into the leg side of the delivery.

Saiteja Mukkamlla got dismissed for two runs in seven balls as he miscued the flick shot against Siraj before Varun grabbed a simple catch. The wicket of Milind Kumar broke the 58-run fourth-wicket stand of the USA side. It was still a fine bowling performance from the blue brigade, who held their nerve with the ball and didn’t release the pressure in the field.

India posted 161 runs for the loss of nine wickets in their allotted 20 overs. Suryakumar Yadav smashed an unbeaten knock of 84 runs in 49 balls with the help of 10 boundaries and four sixes at a strike rate of 171.43, while the second-best score of the card came from Tilak Varma (25).

In a thrilling Match 3 of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, defending champions India survived a massive scare against the USA at the iconic Wankhede Stadium. The USA captain Monank Patel decided to field after winning the toss.  His decision paid off as India struggled to settle against disciplined bowling.

India’s innings started on a poor note when Abhishek Sharma was dismissed for a golden duck by Ali Khan. Ishan Kishan showed intent with a stunning scoop six at 0.5 over. However, he was later dismissed for 20 off 16 balls by Shadley van Schalkwyk. India then slipped badly as wickets fell quickly.

The middle order could not handle the pressure as Tilak Varma (25) and Shivam Dube (0) departed in quick time. Amid the collapse, captain Suryakumar Yadav played a brilliant innings under pressure. He remained unbeaten on 84 off 49 balls and held the innings together. Rinku Singh (6) and Hardik Pandya (5) failed to support him. Axar Patel chipped in with 13 runs. India were 140/8 at the end of the 19th over and were desperately needed a strong finish.

SKY's Last Over Fireworks vs USA

Saurabh Netravalkar’s last over turned into a thriller. On 19.1, SKY started with a four, slicing a slower ball through point. He followed it up on 19.2 with a six, shuffling across to scoop a length delivery over deep fine leg. On 19.3, Netravalkar bowled a full toss which SKY smoked over long-off for another six, bringing up India's 160. The carnage continued on 19.4 as SKY ramped a full ball for four over short fine leg.

The momentum slowed on 19.5 with a slower dot ball that beat the bat. On the final delivery, 19.6, SKY hit a low full toss to deep mid-wicket for a single. A mix-up occurred when Varun Chakaravarthy (1) pushed for a second run; he was run out after a sharp throw from Mohammad Mohsin was collected by keeper Andries Gous. India finished their 20 overs at 161/9, with SKY's late explosion yielding 21 runs from the over.

The USA's bowling was led by a sensational Shadley van Schalkwyk, who finished with 4/25, including the crucial wickets of Kishan and Varma. Ali Khan (1/13) provided the early spark, while spinners Mohammad Mohsin (1/16) and Harmeet Singh (2/26) were incredibly economical in the middle overs. Netravalkar had a tough time finishing, but the USA's performance overall showed they have a place on the world stage.
