Team India at its best. Against Zimbabwe (India vs Zimbabwe), in a do-or-die situation on February 26 in Chennai the defending champion proved why they are considered the most electrifying team in the format across the globe. With a total of 256 runs for 4, Men in Blue registered an all-time record in an innings of a T20 World Cup match.

Batting first at the MA Chidambaram stadium, India claimed a target of over 250, through a total team game. From Sanju Samson to Tilak Varma, all the players who came to bat for India, batted with a strike rate of over 150. According to the stats published by Cricbuzz on the social media platform 'X', "The first instance of six (or more) batters scoring 20+ runs at 150+ strike rate in a T20 World Cup innings"

For tonight's match, Team India, made multiple changes in their playing combination. They added Sanju Samson as an opener to pair up with Abhishek Sharma, and dropped Ishan Kishan to number 3. Captain Suryakumar Yadav was positioned for the number 4 spot, followed by Hardik Pandya and Tilak Varma. Samson, Sharma, Kishan, Yadav, Pandya, and Varma are 6 batters who performed today for India.

Tinotenda Maposa, 22, proved to be the most expensive bowler for Zimbabwe as he conceded an economy rate of 20.0, leaking 40 runs in 2 overs only. Richard Ngarava with 15.5 overs was their second most expensive bowler of the night. The Chevrons' captain Sikandar Raza used seven different bowlers against India and was able to take only 4 wickets. The total of 256 was proof of the carnage done by the Indian batting attack.

In the previous T20 World Cup 2026 Super 8 game for the Indian side, the management decided to keep Axar Patel, their left-arm spin all-rounder, on the bench due to a tactical change before he marked his return to the campaign against Zimbabwe in the second fixture at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.

India made a good start to their defense against a massive score of 256 runs as none of the Zimbabwe openers, Brian Bennett and Tadiwanashe Marumani, could free their arms and nail the big shots against the new ball bowling of the pacers before they smashed Varun Chakravarthy for a massive over to end the powerplay.

Just after the initial drinks break, the Indian captain brought Axar Patel into the attack, and on the very second ball of the over, he drew the first blood with the wicket of Marumani for 20 runs. The southpaw couldn’t capitalize on the start and the life he got in the previous over.

It was a flat good length delivery outside the off stump as Marumani went on the back foot and cut. The ball was sliced as he didn’t look to keep it down, and Ishan Kishan grabbed a fine catch to dismiss the opening batter. Axar looked at the sky in his own celebration, perhaps after being dropped in the last game.

Zimbabwe recovered a little when Brian Bennett went after Axar with one six and one four in the ninth over of the innings. The right-handed batter made his way to 43 runs in 29 balls with the help of four boundaries and a couple of sixes. Meanwhile, they lost Dion Myers at the other end against Chakravarthy.

Earlier in the game, India posted the second-highest T20 Team score of the World Cups, 256/4, after Abhishek Sharma and Hardik Pandya celebrated their respective aggressive half-centuries. The former got 55 runs in 30 balls while the all-rounder notched up an unbeaten 50 runs in 23 deliveries at a strike rate of 217.39, thanks to two fours and four sixes.

Brief Scores: India 254/6 (Abhishek Sharma 55, Hardik Pandya 50, Sikandar Raza 1/29) vs Zimbabwe 105/2 (Brian Bennett 56*, Varun Chakravarthy 1/23)

India, who got bundled out for only 111 runs in the chase against South Africa at the Narendra Modi Stadium in the T20 World Cup 2026, looked like a different batting unit against Zimbabwe in their second Super 8 encounter of the campaign at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, as every single batter of the side fired up with big shots around the park.

At the start, they got a strong start from their opener, Abhishek Sharma, who celebrated his 26-ball half-century, while their captain, Suryakumar Yadav, also smashed a dashing knock of 33 runs in just 13 balls with the help of three boundaries and two sixes. But the onus was on the middle-order batters, Hardik Pandya and Tilak Varma, to give them a firing end to the innings.

On the first ball of the 19th over against Richard Ngarava, Hardik Pandya pulled the short ball hard and flat as the ball went to the boundary like a tracer bullet. There was no chance for the deep midwicket fielder.

Two balls later on the penultimate over of the innings, Tilak Varma nailed the fourth ball for a massive six. It was another slower delivery on the off-stump as the batter opened the hip and whacked the length delivery for a massive six. It was a vital knock from Tilak, who didn’t enjoy a great tournament with the bat so far.

Watch the video here:

On the very next delivery of the over, Varma again picked up the slower, juicy full toss and collapsed his back knee to get low and slog it high and love the midwicket for a massive six. He remained unbeaten on 44 runs in 16 balls with the help of three boundaries and four sixes at a strike rate of 275.

India finished with 256/4 in their allotted 20 overs as Hardik Pandya also claimed a fine 50 in just 23 balls with the help of two boundaries and four sixes. It became the second-highest score by a team in the T20 World Cup history.

Brief Scores: India 254/6 (Abhishek Sharma 55, Hardik Pandya 50*, Sikandar Raza 1/29) vs Zimbabwe 45/1 (Brian Bennett 23, Axar Patel 1/0)

There was a release of pressure when the left-handed opening batter of the Indian side, Abhishek Sharma, got a first-ball boundary against South Africa in their opening clash of Super 8 stage in the T20 World Cup 2026. But that knock didn’t end well for him. And focus shifted on him as the blue brigade made their way to the second encounter against Zimbabwe at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.

Abhishek Sharma looked in a different mood as he thumped Tinotenda Maposa over the bowler’s head for a straight boundary before repeating nearly the same shot off the free-hit to get the same result. On the very last ball of the same over, the southpaw read the slower ball and cleared his front leg to club it over the long-on region for a massive six.

The timing seemed to have returned for the Punjab-born, as he again used the pace to time the slower length ball in the slot outside the off-stump and put it over the cow corner region for a massive 80-meter six.

Abhishek’s third six of the evening came on the last ball of the powerplay when he picked the length ball in the slot outside the off stump and minimized it with disdain over the bowler’s head for a massive six. His next six came at the half-way mark when he launched the ball over the long-on fielder.

Watch the video here:

Abhishek celebrated his first fifty of the T20 World Cups in just 26 balls, thanks to the single he got to deep mid-wicket region. It was a relief in the Indian camp, who trusted on the youngster so much, and when they needed him the most, he has finally fire up in a vital evening.

Earlier in the game, Sanju Samson smashed 24 runs in just 15 balls with the help of two sixes and one boundary, while Ishan Kishan, demoted at number three, collected 38 runs in 24 balls, shouldering on four boundaries and one six at a strike rate of 160. India made their way to 134/2 in just 12 overs.

Brief Scores: India 150/3 (Abhishek Sharma 55, Ishan Kishan 38, Blessing Muzurabani 1/13) vs Zimbabwe.

India came into their second Super 8 clash of the T20 World Cup 2026 under pressure after their opening defeat against South Africa. They needed to collect a vital victory against Zimbabwe at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai to stay alive in the competition, as the South Africa side had already helped them with a win over West Indies in the afternoon clash.

Sanju Samson gave them a good start with a six against Blessing Muzarabani on the very second ball of the innings. But the focus was on their out-of-form batter, Abhishek Sharma, who made only 14 runs in four innings of the campaign, including three ducks, which was a massive concern for the management.

Abhishek lofted Tinotenda Maposa for a straight boundary as the ball flew over the bowler’s head and crossed the rope after one bounce on the second ball of the third over, before he nailed the over-pitched delivery over the bowler’s head like a copied boundary off the free-hit.

Sanju Samson joined the mini-party with a boundary on the fourth ball as he threw his hands on the cut and hit the length ball in the gap between the short third and deep square region. A cracking end was needed in that over to get the full momentum in India’s favor, and Abhishek lit it up with a six.

Watch the video here:

On the final delivery of the third over, he read the slower delivery, took his time, and cleared his front leg to club it clean over the long-on region. Zimbabwe, however, made a comeback in the very next over of the innings with the wicket of Samson, who couldn’t keep the short ball on the ground and was dismissed for 24 runs.

This was a new balanced side for India, who decided to demote their inform opener, Ishan Kishan, at number three, and went ahead with Tilka Varma at number 5, by dropping Rinku Singh from the eleven as Axar Patel returned to the side in place of Washington Sundar.

Brief Scores: INDIA 80/1 (Abhishek Sharma 33*, Blessing Muzurabani 1/13) vs ZIMBABWE.

No turning back for Team India. Against Zimbabwe, on February 26, Suryakumar Yadav and his team must confirm a win to stay in the title race. Another defeat in the Super 8 of the T20 World Cup 2026, can prove enough to knock the team out of the competition.

Ahead of India vs Zimbabwe (IND vs VS) match, star allrounder Hardik Pandya sweated hard during the net session in Chennai, where the Men in Blue will play their second Super 8 game. A batting practice video of Hardik Pandya has recently gone viral on social media platforms.

From the video cricket fans on the internet can see, the swashbuckling batter swinging his arms at full stretch to send the ball into the stands. The video captures back-to-back big shots taken by the middle-order batter.

Team India qualified for the Super 8 as an undefeated team in the group stage. In the group stage, India, the defending champion and the co-host of the 2026 T20 World Cup, claimed all four matches in the initial phase of the competition through pure team games.

But in individual cases, multiple batters were not able to touch their peak. On February 22, against South Africa in Ahmedabad, the home side's weak point was exposed badly. Because of a batting collapse, India suffered a 76 runs lose against the Proteas.

Recap of the South Africa match can cause India to lose their second Super eight game as well. To avoid the catastrophe situation, the batters of the Indian cricket team will have to deliver their best. Hardik Pandya, who single-handedly gifted the team multiple wins, will be out there in the middle of the MA Chidambaram stadium to make a statement.

The clash on February 26 between the Indian cricket team and the Zimbabwe cricket team is another reflection of what this ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 has brought among the fans. It’s not just about the runs, wickets, or the net run rate. It’s about the mental strength, belief, and the last-minute work for the difference between staying alive and packing bags.

In the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Super 8 stage, the matches haven’t been only routine like the group stage fixtures. Every run will be part of history, while every wicket will make a cause. Every misfield and dropped catch will hurt and push the millions of fans to stay glued to the screen across the world.

India arrived with a heartbreaking yet massive defeat against South Africa at the Narendra Modi Stadium, while Zimbabwe looked perplexed against the West Indies at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

Match Intent: Why This Game Matters More Than It Looks

This is not a group match, and the pressure is immense on India, being the co-host, as this is a game of controlling the table and fighting for survival.

India is playing to keep itself alive in the tournament, where it was the clear favorite to claim the title. Meanwhile, Zimbabwe also finds itself in the same state of remaining alive in the campaign.

A defeat in the game will be the end of the campaign for either side. Neither of them has a great net run rate after their respective defeats in the first game, and that means one victory won’t be enough for the semifinal qualification.

What Fans Can Expect: Tension Before Fireworks

The game at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai won’t be about the mindless slogging from the very first ball. The powerplay runs along with the death overs; bowling will be vital for both sides.

India will look to go hard against an inexperienced bowling line-up of Zimbabwe, who will play their first-ever T20I game in Chennai, and are coming off several mistakes in Mumbai.

On the other hand, Zimbabwe knows the pressure the Suryakumar Yadav-led side is under because of their semifinal qualification. They have some good spinners to tackle the powerplay batting of the home side.

The only clash between the two sides in the T20 World Cup happened during the 2022 season at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. India’s recent tournament record has been fabulous, as that defeat to the Proteas was their only defeat in the last two T20 World Cups. Meanwhile, Zimbabwe were unbeaten in the event till they lost to the West Indies.

Pitch Report: What The Surface Will Demand Tonight

The MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, after renovation, has been quite batting-friendly with the batters playing their shots regularly to post the big scores on the board.

Key pitch characteristics:

 • New ball batting remains quite easy.
 • The spinners have found grip in the middle overs.
 • Spinners and cutters become effective in the death overs.
 • Under lights, the dew can be a factor for the chasing side.

A score around 175-185 will be really competitive for the teams, as the chasing will be easy only if the dew makes an appearance.

The batters need to adapt faster on the surface against the slower deliveries.

India’s Path: Puzzling yet successive

India finished the group stage with four wins in as many games. They didn’t enjoy a complete game of full dominance with the bat, but different players stepped up in various situations whenever required. However, clarity is missing in their campaign so far.

Their biggest strength has been their spin bowling, including Varun Chakravarthy, and how Jasprit Bumrah has bowled in the death, along with the strong batting unit.

Zimbabwe qualification: No chance of slipping

Zimbabwe just can’t slip from hereon. Even if they win their next two clashes, the focus will be on their NRR and them relying on other results.

Fan Energy: Why This Feels Like a Knockout Game

The fans will be on the edge of their seat to see how the Indian side makes a comeback in the event against Zimbabwe, as the fan engagement will be at its best for the India vs Zimbabwe meeting. It’s about keeping the belief in the eleven players in the middle.

Every boundary will be cheered louder, with every wicket being counted, but every mistake will also be remembered.

The game will be more than just a normal cricket match.

Final Take: Pressure Reveals Everything

The beauty of the Super 8 stage of the T20 World Cup 2026 is how teams cope with pressure at this stage. Till now, India hasn’t had any pressure with things going in their favor.

But now, suddenly, when things didn’t go their way, they looked puzzled. The question remains if they could turn the tables with a special performance.

During India’s tour of Zimbabwe, Riyan Parag had a heartwarming moment when his father Parag Das gave him his debut India cap. This was a historic milestone as Riyan became the first player from Assam to play for the Indian team.

Riyan, a young all-rounder received his debut India cap from his father, who is a former first class cricketer for Assam. The father and son shared a joyful hug, making it a dream come true moment as Riyan prepared to represent India in the first T20I against Zimbabwe.

This achievement is significant as Riyan is the first player from the Northeast to play for the country. His journey began with his appearance for India at the U-19 World Cup in 2018. The following year, he joined the Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League (IPL) and has since become a key player for the team.

Parag’s Impressive Performance in IPL 2024

Riyan’s exceptional skills were evident in the last domestic season. He led the charts in the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20, scoring 510 runs at a strike rate of 182.79 and taking 11 wickets. His impressive performances continued in the Deodhar Trophy, where he scored 354 runs in five matches and took 11 wickets.

In the Ranji Trophy, he scored 378 runs at an average of 75.60 in four matches, including two centuries. In IPL 2024, he earned the Orange Cap in the initial games and finished the season as the highest scorer for his team and third overall, with 573 runs at a strike rate of 149.22.

Along with Riyan Parag, two other young talents, Dhruv Jurel and Abhishek Sharma, also made their India debuts in the first T20I against Zimbabwe on July 6. Shubman Gill was leading the team, won the toss and chose to bowl first in the series opener.

Shubman Gill, leading a young Indian team without senior players, has announced the opening pair for the first T20I against Zimbabwe. This series marks the beginning of a new era for Indian cricket, kicking off their preparations for the T20 World Cup 2026.

Gill himself will open alongside the in-form Abhishek Sharma in the series opener at Harare Sports Club on Saturday, July 6th.

“I will open with Abhishek Sharma, and Ruturaj Gaikwad will bat at No. 3,” Gill told reporters on the eve of the match.

Abhishek Sharma Prepares for Maiden T20I Cap Alongside Gill

Abhishek, known for his explosive batting in the IPL with 484 runs at a stunning strike rate of 204.22, will earn his first T20I cap. The left hander’s aggressive batting style in the powerplay overs could be crucial in Harare’s slower conditions. His debut is well-deserved, and the young player from Punjab is expected to capture attention with his attacking approach.

In this series against Zimbabwe, India has rested most of their World Cup-winning players such as Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Ravindra Jadeja.

Only five members are Rinku Singh, Shivam Dube, Yashavi Jaiswal, Khaleel Ahmed, and Sanju Samson included in the squad. However, Dube, Jaiswal, and Samson, who were part of the main World Cup squad, will miss the first two T20Is due to extended celebrations following their victory. Jitesh Sharma, Sai Sudharshan, and Harshit Rana will replace them for these matches.

<![CDATA[IND vs ZIM 2022: 'Kuldeep Yadav Confused Whether to Bowl Quick or Slow']]> https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/ind-vs-zim-2022-kuldeep-yadav-confused-whether-to-bowl-quick-or-slow/ https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/ind-vs-zim-2022-kuldeep-yadav-confused-whether-to-bowl-quick-or-slow/ Mon, 22 Aug 2022 00:29:25 GMT

After an impressive IPL 2022 where he represented Delhi Capitals, Kuldeep Yadav hoped to carry his form into international cricket and was selected for T20I series against South Africa at home but an injury he picked while batting in the nets put paid to his hopes. He had a big wicket to his name, he dismissed Sikandar Raza, who is a good player.

Kuldeep eventually missed out the England tour as well but then recovered in time for the white-ball matches against West Indies. He played in just one game during the tour but left quite an impression with figures of 3/12 in the fifth and final T20I. As he continued, “There were quite a few boundaries scored off him. He was expensive, conceded the most runs if we talk about the bowlers, gave 49 runs in eight overs.

Kuldeep should try to go for wickets rather than saving his economy

He then made the cut for the ongoing short tour of Zimbabwe and has played in both the ODIs so far. In the first match, despite bowling well, he went wicketless. In the second contest though, he picked up a wicket but was expensive. Leaking 49 runs in eight overs even as Zimbabwe were skittled for 161.

Former India cricketer Mohammed Kaif pins this down to Kuldeep’s confused state of mind as he’s unable to decide whether to bowl quick or slow. “He is a bit confused whether to bowl quick or slow,” Kaif said on Sony Sports. “He has this new strategy to bowl fast, he wants to keep the speed around 90 kph. There were times when the balls were pitched short. So (Sean) Williams played the pull shots and when he flighted the ball, he was driven.”

However, Kaif feels that Kuldeep will continue getting better if he’s given more matches. “He missed a caught-and-bowled chance and for that, he will be disappointed. However, the rhythm is visible (in his bowling). He did bowl well against the West Indies and will get better as he plays more matches. He hasn’t been playing regularly,” he said.
