The former Indian opening batter and selector, Krishnamachari Srikkanth, has expressed a different opinion in selecting India’s openers for the upcoming Asia Cup 2025 in the United Arab Emirates, starting from the second week of September. He suggested that Sanju Samson should not open the batting, given his struggles against the short ball.

Samson, who struggled during India’s home series against England earlier this year, has smashed 861 T20I runs in 38 innings, along with the number one T20I batter, Abhishek Sharma, who drilled 535 runs in 16 innings. Srikkanth, however, has backed the Punjab-born in the opening slot.

“Sanju Samson was found wanting against the short ball against England. According to me, it’s doubtful that he will open. If I were a selector, Abhishek Sharma would be my No. 1 choice. No. 2, I would go for either Vaibhav Suryavanshi or Sai Sudharsan. I would have Vaibhav Suryavanshi in my 15-member T20 World Cup squad as well.Kris Srikkanth expressed on his YouTube channel.

Kris Srikkanth picks Vaibhav Suryavanshi and Sai Sudharsan for Asia Cup 2025

Srikkanth has gone with Vaibhav Suryavanshi and Sai Sudharsan as India’s two openers for the event. The former is the 14-year-old kid, who smashed 252 runs at a strike rate of 206.55 in his first season of IPL for Rajasthan Royals. Sudharsan, on the other hand, clubbed 759 runs in IPL 2025 at a strike rate of 156.17, with six half-centuries and one century.

“Sai Sudharsan is the Orange Cap holder. He has been doing very well, and Yashasvi Jaiswal as well. So, one of Sudharsan, Suryavanshi, or Jaiswal should open with Abhishek. That would be my choice. This is a very competitive world. The choice can be between Samson and Jitesh Sharma as the keeper-batter.The former Tamil Nadu batter addressed during the interaction.

As of now, the selection committee is expected to pick Samson and Abhishek as the two openers, with Tilka Verma slotted at number three. There are reports of the Test captain, Shubman Gill, making a surprising inclusion in the squad. The selection committee will meet on August 19 to pick the 15-member squad.

The former Indian spin all-rounder, Ravichandran Ashwin, has dropped a bombshell ahead of the mini auction of the 2026 season of the Indian Premier League (IPL), where he informed that a few decision-makers of the IPL franchise ignored his suggestion of going for the aggressive Australia batter, Tim David, during the las year’s mega auction of the league.

Tim David, who has scored 83 and 50 during the ongoing home T20I series against South Africa, nailed 187 runs for the title-winning side, Royal Challengers Bengaluru, in nine innings at an average of 62.33 and a strike rate of 185.14 with the best score of an unbeaten 50 runs. This was a strange decision from the Mumbai Indians, who left him even after scoring 241 runs at 158.55 in 2024.

“I shouldn't say this, but I told the decision makers of a few IPL teams to pick him before the last auction. They all said, 'No, his game has dropped off drastically.Ravichandran Ashwin expressed the advice during the new episode on his YouTube channel.

One of the crazy parts for the Australian batter was his impressive skills of making an impact, coming late in the batting order and still contributing with the vital runs on several occasions. For Australia, he holds a key role of showing his power-hitting skills late in the batting order. Ashwin also sheds light on how the tall batters will earn more success in the shortest format.

“I believe the future of T20 cricket is going to be having tall batters with long levers and a strong build. They are going to rule the roost if there are no changes brought to the wide line. The Tamil Nadu spin all-rounder explained.

David has overall smashed 1466 runs in 52 innings of the T20Is at an average of 37.58 and a strike rate of nearly 170, with the help of eight half-centuries and a century. The unbeaten 102-run knock came last month against the West Indies in the Caribbean. He could push himself for the ODIs, where he has featured in four innings at an average of 11.25 for 44 runs at the best score of 35.

During the recent season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, Rohit Sharma played most of the games as the ‘impact player’ for the Mumbai Indians. But few of the fans didn’t take that lightly. They always wanted to see their favorite player engaged in the field and share a few vital tips with the captain, Hardik Pandya.

The former leg spinner of the Indian side and the current member of the Mumbai Indians (MI) during the IPL 2025, Karn Sharma, revealed that it was the decision of the management to use Rohit as the impact player. On most occasions, he was impacted out of the innings after getting dismissed or stayed in the cool room for half of the innings.

‘No, this wasn’t the case. First of all, it was the decision of the management. I mean, overall, everyone decided to play Rohit Sharma as an impact player. But then, who would he have replaced as the impact player? Because half of the side is full of all-rounders, and you can’t leave them out of the side. So, it was the management’s decision.’ Karn Sharma expressed during a recent podcast.

The Mumbai batter smashed 418 runs during the recent season of the tournament in 15 innings at an average of just under 30 and a strike rate of 149.28, thanks to four half-centuries at the best score of 81 runs. Overall, he has notched up 7046 runs in 267 innings at a strike rate of 132 with two centuries and 47 fifties.

But whenever he was impacted, on many occasions, he fielded for nearly nine to ten overs. So, whatever impact has come, it was either after the powerplay of the first six overs or the ten overs. So, his inputs were always there, no matter where he stayed. It wasn’t sure if it was his and the management’s collective decision to play as an impact player.’

Rohit, who has already retired from Test cricket and the T20Is, is expected to return for the ODIs during the away series against Australia as he plans to keep himself in shape and full rhythm for the upcoming 2027 ODI World Cup in South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia.

Shreyas Iyer added a steady 25*, while Josh Inglis chipped in with a quick 11*. Vaibhav Arora stood out for the Kolkata Knight Riders with 3 wickets. <![CDATA[IPL 2025: Why do cameramen always focus on girls?]]> https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/ipl-2025-why-do-cameramen-always-focus-on-girls/ https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/ipl-2025-why-do-cameramen-always-focus-on-girls/ Thu, 10 Apr 2025 13:29:21 GMT

The Indian Premier League (IPL) comprises both entertainment and cricket, and one thing that has had the fans buzzing during the 2025 season is why cameramen zoom in on girls in the stands. This isn't a new trend; IPL coverage over the years always highlights women, often young and beautiful, cheering from the stands. The explanation is a mix of strategy, viewing tactics, and the IPL's larger-than-life spectacle.

Broadcasters know that IPL is not just a sport; it's a cultural phenomenon. Panning to the audience adds spice, but highlighting women, usually with slow motion, has an agenda. It's creating viral moments. Think about the "RCB Girl" of 2019, Kaviya Maran of 2022, or the newest sensation, Aaryapriya Bhuyan, a 19-year-old Guwahati girl who overnight became a sensation during the CSK vs. Rajasthan Royals match on March 30, 2025, as her emotional reaction to MS Dhoni's dismissal was caught on camera. Her genuine shock cut through online fans, taking her from 800 Instagram followers to over 400,000 overnight. Aaryapriya has now earned brand collaborations with brands like Swiggy and Yes Madam, showing the real-world impact of these brief but powerful televisual moments.

But the trend is not without controversy. Critics claim it's objectifying, turning women into props instead of fans who are genuinely enjoying the game. The lingering zooms and cut-ins come off as intrusive, questioning the ethics of consent and respect. Kaviya Maran, for example, may be seen grimacing when cameras hold shots too long, something that contributed to social media debate. MensXP and ScoopWhoop features have called it an embodiment of the "male gaze," contending that it's gratifying a particular audience at the cost of dignity.

Amid ongoing conversations about why cameras often focus on girls during IPL matches, a controversial moment unfolded during the Gujarat Titans vs Rajasthan Royals clash. During the broadcast, the cameraman panned to a male spectator in the crowd who proceeded to make an inappropriate gesture on live television. The incident quickly went viral, sparking debate across social media. Many viewers argued that moments like these are the reason why male fans receive less screen time during matches. The Entertainment vs. Ethics Debate

So, what’s the real reason behind the consistent focus on girls in the crowd during IPL matches? It’s largely a calculated strategy by broadcasters aimed at capturing and maintaining audience attention. These fleeting crowd shots, often featuring women, aren’t just random—they’re designed to create buzz, turn heads, and even spark viral moments that extend beyond the game itself. While some defend this as harmless entertainment, arguing that public events naturally include crowd reactions, others see it as a move rooted more in visual appeal than genuine inclusiveness.

The practice raises ongoing ethical questions. Is it fair to prioritize specific visuals just to boost engagement, potentially at the cost of balance and representation? Or is it simply a byproduct of a sports league that blends competition with showbiz? In a tournament as commercial and high-profile as the IPL, every camera angle is part of a broader entertainment narrative. The real issue lies in whether this strategy enhances the viewing experience or detracts from the spirit of the sport. Ultimately, the IPL thrives on this fine line, constantly walking the edge between mass appeal and responsible broadcasting.
