The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) suspended the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 for one week due to escalating military tensions between the two nations, India and Pakistan. This decision was made on May 9, 2025, following high military cross-border tensions, including missile and drone attacks near the Line of Control in Kashmir.

IPL Affected By India-Pakistan Tensions

The suspension came after a match between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals in Dharamshala, which was abandoned mid-way due to security concerns. The BCCI mentioned national security and the safety of players and fans as primary reasons for the suspension of the league.

With security concerns increasing, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), in coordination with the Indian Railways, swiftly arranged a special train to evacuate all players, staff, commentators, and broadcast crew from the region. The BCCI shared visuals of the train journey on IPL's official social media handles, thanking Indian Railways for their support. Before suspension, the league had 12 group matches remaining before the playoffs, with the final scheduled for May 25 at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.

<![CDATA[New IPL schedule to be announced later, BCCI stands with Indian Army: Rajeev Shukla]]> https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/new-ipl-schedule-to-be-announced-later-bcci-stands-with-indian-army-rajeev-shukla/ https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/new-ipl-schedule-to-be-announced-later-bcci-stands-with-indian-army-rajeev-shukla/ Fri, 09 May 2025 22:11:23 GMT

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has officially postponed the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) for a week amid growing tensions at the India-Pakistan border. BCCI Vice-President Rajeev Shukla confirmed the decision, asserting that the board is fully with the Indian government and military at this juncture. "IPL 2025 has been suspended for one week in consideration of the situation. The revised schedule will be notified after consultations with the government, stakeholders, and broadcasters. We are proud of the Indian Army. BCCI stands by our Armed Forces and the government," Shukla stated.

The move followed the match between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals at the HPCA Stadium in Dharamsala being suddenly abandoned halfway through the first innings on May 8. Fans were ordered out of the ground at once, and players were escorted out of harm's way. The fact that Dharamsala is located near the north border, only 85-90 km away, was the reason behind immediate safety actions.

Match Called Off for Safety, BCCI Plans Revised IPL Schedule Amid Uncertainty

Interestingly, IPL Chairman Arun Singh Dhumal later disclosed that the stadium blackout was deliberately blamed on a floodlight malfunction to prevent crowd panic. The board has since explained that the actual reason for the abandonment was the worsening border situation.

Sanjay Sharma, a member of the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association (HPCA), has confirmed that the local administration, the Punjab Kings franchise, and HPCA personnel were all in close communication in expectation of possible disruptions. The BCCI has even scheduled a special Vande Bharat train to transport Delhi Capitals players, Punjab Kings players, and the broadcast team safely back to Delhi.

In terms of foreign players' participation in the future, Rajeev Shukla said that it will be up to individual franchises and the players themselves. Though the tournament itself is suspended for only a short time, there is doubt about what happens to the remaining schedule. The fans now look forward to the redrawn fixture list that has been guaranteed to come out after high-level discussions by the board.

<![CDATA[IPL 2025 likely to be cancelled amid India - Pakistan tensions: Report]]> https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/ipl-2025-likely-to-be-cancelled-amid-india-pakistan-tensions-report/ https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/ipl-2025-likely-to-be-cancelled-amid-india-pakistan-tensions-report/ Thu, 08 May 2025 23:13:36 GMT

In a major surprise, the IPL 2025 is being suspended indefinitely due to rising tensions between India and Pakistan. The apparent crisis began with a military operation called "Operation Sindoor" that Indian forces began in the early hours of Wednesday, May 7. In response, Pakistan allegedly activated a counteroperation along the international border as well as the Line of Control (LoC), and reports suggest that various urban areas near the border of India have now been attacked.

At the same time, in the middle of this tense environment, the IPL cricket fixture between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals, being played in Dharamsala, was called off in the middle of play. Originally it was said there was an issue with the floodlights. However, soon afterwards officials began asking people in the Dumrauni Stadium to leave as they were going to call the game. It was later confirmed by authorities that the match was cancelled on safety grounds because the environment was too tense. The urgent situation has caused an emergency meeting by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to determine the future of the tournament.

Security Concerns Take Center Stage

The safety and security of players, support personnel, match officials, and all others associated with the tournament have become the number one priority for the BCCI. Rajeev Shukla, the vice president of the BCCI, dealt with the media yesterday regarding an evacuation plan and stated the following:
"We are getting a special train that leaves from Una, which is just the other side of Dharamsala, to evacuate everyone. The stadium has been evacuated 100%, and the match is cancelled," said Shukla in a quote carried by The Times of India.

He also said that there would be no decision on what happens with the rest of IPL 2025 until there is a full understanding of the current situation. The BCCI is closely monitoring developments and is expected to issue a formal statement soon.

Things are changing rapidly, but it looks more and more unlikely that the IPL will continue. The current cross-border situation is not only a safety concern, but it has also emotionally impacted the players and management. A final decision about the tournament will be made by Friday, May 9th, following how the world events unfold in the next 24 hours.
