At last, the rain stayed away and the West Indies triumphed against Ireland in the third and final T20I at Bready to clinch the series 1-0. The weather stayed clear and, much to the visitors' delight, their in-form batters went berserk, punishing the Irish bowlers mercilessly. In what turned out to be a high-voltage thriller, the West Indies, while batting first, mounted an astronomical score of 256 for the loss of five wickets, making it their second-highest T20I score. Evin Lewis (91 off 44) and Shai Hope (51 off 27) were the top performers with the bat for the Men in Maroon, while Akeal Hosein emerged as the pick of the bowlers, returning economical figures of 3-27.

There was not much to cherish from the Irish point of view. Apart from Humphreys, who went at just 4 RPO while picking up two wickets, the rest of the Irish bowlers went for plenty, with every bowler going at more than 12 RPO. Ireland, in response, tried to stage a counter-attack in the second half, but the target proved way beyond their reach and they comfortably fell short by 62 runs.

West Indies Innings

The West Indies started off their innings in a dominating fashion. The WI openers Lewis and Hope got the visitors off to a flyer, piling on 122 runs within the first 11 overs. The Irish bowlers, especially Liam McCarthy, were taken aback early doors by the incredible hitting and simply had no answers to the onslaught. Hope played a composed knock of 51, while Lewis was the aggressor, hammering 91 and narrowly missing out on a well-deserved century. The duo hit a combined 12 sixes and 11 fours which completly crippled the Irish bowling attack by the halfway stage.

Ireland, on the other hand, didn’t have the ideal start, conceding a few loose deliveries that the Men in Maroon were quick to capitalize on. But during the middle overs, they did try to exert some control with the ball, chipping in with a few quick wickets. But that did not seem to have a great deal of impact on the WI innings as Keacy Carty had an impressive T20I debut, finishing unbeaten on 49 in just 22 balls. Romario Shepherd added the finishing touches with a flurry of boundaries, which helped the Windies surge past the 250-run mark in blazing style.

Ireland Innings

In pursuit of their humongous target of 257, Ireland suffered an early blow, losing their captain, Paul Stirling, in only the second over of the run chase. But following that dismissal, a steady 101-run partnership between Ross Adair (48) and Harry Tector (38) followed, which somewhat revived the faint hopes of a potential Irish win. But they were still way behind in the run chase, with the asking rate nearly touching 16 RPO at the halfway stage. After that brief fightback, both Ross and Tector were removed in quick succession in the space of just four balls.

Their quick departures meant a disastrous middle-order collapse, and Ireland never quite recovered. Despite some late resistance from George Dockrell (15 off 8), Mark Adair (31 off 14), and Liam McCarthy (16 off 15) in the lower order, the task proved too tall. The Windies bowlers were able to get themselves back into business after overcoming a resilient stand between Ross and Tector. Once that partnership was broken, the West Indies never offered any realistic opportunity for Ireland to make a comeback. Akeal Hosein led the bowling effort for the visitors and starred with an impressive three-wicket haul, while Jason Holder, Roston Chase, and Romario Shepherd chipped in with key breakthroughs at crucial moments.

The third and final T20I match of the three-match series between Ireland and West Indies will commence on June 15 at the Bready Cricket Club in Magheramason. The series has been negatively impacted by the weather, with the first two games being washed out completely without a single ball being bowled. Although the forecast for the third T20I does not look bright either, both teams would be hoping to get some time out in the middle. There are high chances of the third game being abandoned as well, but we remain hopeful that this is not the case. Previously, the two sides met in the ODI series last month, which ended in a 1-1 stalemate.

The home team boasts a commendable track record against the Windies in this format. Their historic victory over the West Indies in the 2022 T20 World Cup was clearly a win for the ages, as that win led to the humiliating exit of the 2016 champions. Although they hold an impressive 3-3 win record against a quality T20 side, Ireland has yet to secure a series win against the West Indies. On the other hand, the visiting team is currently experiencing a challenging tour. The Men in Maroon competed against Ireland in a three-match ODI series but struggled significantly, resulting in a 1-1 draw. Furthermore, the team suffered a severe setback in their England series previously, losing both the T20I and ODI series without registering a single win.

Weather Report

The weather will once again play its part in the third and final T20I fixture of the series. It has been raining nonstop in Bready for the past few days, and it is highly likely that the rain will persist on Sunday as well. Gloomy overhead conditions and moderate to low precipitation of 20% are predicted by Google Weather. However, the forecast can worsen as time rolls by. During the day, the temperature can reach a maximum of 16 °C and can go down to as low as 9 °C at dusk or beyond. Humidity rate is on the higher side, around 81%, while wind speed is expected to clock speeds of 21 km/hr.

Pitch Report

The pitch at Bready Cricket Club provides equitable support to both bowlers and batsmen. The batters are able to take advantage of the consistent bounce, allowing them to execute their shots with confidence once they have acclimatized. Additionally, the presence of a rapid outfield enhances their opportunities. Fast bowlers gain from additional bounce and movement, particularly during the early overs. Similarly, spinners achieve success owing to the reliable bounce. We anticipate a high-scoring match when the two teams face off today, provided the weather gods show some mercy.

Ireland and the West Indies are gearing up to face each other in the second T20I match of the three-match T20I series on June 14, 2924. The showdown will be staged at the Bready Cricket Club in Magheramason. Previously, at this venue, the weather played a massive spoilsport, forcing the abandonment of the first T20I without a ball being bowled. The weather forecast for the second game does not look very bright either, as there are chances of light to moderate rainfall on match day. Good Weather predicts a precipitation rate of 40% between 2 PM to 5 PM local time. At this stage, the series currently stands at 0-0, and both teams would be hoping to get some time in the middle.

The home side has a very promising track record against the Windies. Their historic win against the West Indies in their last T20I game in the 2022 T20 World Cup is a feat, the young Irish team would be mighty proud of. Despite having an impressive 3-3 win record against a quality T20 side, Ireland are yet to register a series victory over the West Indies. Meanwhile, the tourists are in the midst of a very rough tour. The Men in Maroon faced Ireland in a three-match ODI series and did not have a lot of success, with the series ending in a 1-1 stalemate. Moving on, the team was brutally humiliated by the Harry Brook-led English side in the ODI and T20I series, ending that tour without achieving a single win.

The first match of the T20I series between Ireland and the West Indies is scheduled to be played on the Bready Cricket Club Ground. Both teams are coming into the series with poor recent form. Ireland managed to win only 1 match out of their last 5, while West Indies lost all their recent five matches.

Ireland lost their last series against Zimbabwe. On the other hand, the West Indies suffered a 3-0 whitewash against England. In this series West Indies will aim to improve their performance. The sudden retirement of Nicholas Pooran has further impacted the Caribbean side in this format.

<![CDATA[IRE vs WI, 2025: Ireland vs West Indies, 1st T20I Match Preview]]> https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/ire-vs-wi-2025-ireland-vs-west-indies-1st-t20i-match-preview/ https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/ire-vs-wi-2025-ireland-vs-west-indies-1st-t20i-match-preview/ Wed, 11 Jun 2025 11:59:51 GMT

Ireland and the West Indies are slated to clash in a three-match T20I series starting on June 12 at Bredy. The series will conclude on June 15. All three matches will be hosted in the Bready Cricket Club ground in Magheramason, Bready. Ireland previously hosted the West Indies in a three-match ODI series last month, which ended in a 1-1 stalemate.

Ireland come 11th in the ICC Men's T20I Team rankings. Their last victory in this format came against South Africa in September last year. The Adair brothers rose up to the occasion and took the Proteas by surprise to register only their second T20I win against them. They managed to level that series 1-1 but went on to face defeat in their subsequent T20I series against Zimbabwe. It was a series that was severely impacted by rain, and Ireland lost a solitary game to lose the series 1-0.

However, the hosts have a formidable win record against the West Indies in this format, having three of their six T20I fixtures (excluding two abandoned games) against them. But the wait for a series victory is on, and the home side would be hoping that wait comes to an end. George Dockrell looks to be in remarkable form of late, having scored 151 runs in 10 matches at a healthy average of 37.75. Mark Adair on the other hand, has been in prolific form with the ball, accounting for 13 wickets in the last seven games.

Meanwhile, the West Indies are having the worst possible time in this format. They are coming into this series on the back of a humiliating 3-0 defeat against England in both ODI as well as T20I formats. The Men in Maroon have not tasted win in this format since November last year and are in the midst of a seven-match losing streak. The team can't come to terms after suffering a shocking 3-0 whitewash against Bangladesh at home in late 2024.

And to further compound their problems, their global T20 icon, Nicholas Pooran, announced a sudden retirement and will no longer be a part of the national setup any longer. Brandon King, Andre Russell, and Roston Chase are the other three Windies players who will miss out on the Ireland leg. Despite being ranked much higher than Ireland in the ICC Men's T20I Team rankings (fifth), the West Indies enter the series as underdogs. Rovman Powell has been the highest run scorer for the Windies in recent times, slamming 329 runs in 100 games at a stunning strike rate of 144. Akeal Hosein has been a very reliable bowler for them, picking up 10 wickets in his last seven games while maintaining an economy rate of 7.04 RPO.

Pitch Report

The deck at Bready Cricket Club offers balanced assistance to both bowlers and batsmen alike. The batters can cash in on the true bounce and can play their shots confidently after settling in. Furthermore, the presence of a lightning-quick outfield further adds to their advantage. Pacers benefit from extra bounce and movement, especially in the initial overs. Spinners also find success due to the consistent bounce. We expect a high-scoring contest to unfold when the two sides meet tomorrow.

They can recover if their bowlers are effective and their hitters keep playing like they did in the second ODI. Considering the team combination, Ireland is expected to win this match.

<![CDATA[IRE vs WI: West Indies’ Matthew Forde smashes joint-fastest fifty in ODI history]]> https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/ire-vs-wi-west-indies-matthew-forde-smashes-joint-fastest-fifty-in-odi-history/ https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/ire-vs-wi-west-indies-matthew-forde-smashes-joint-fastest-fifty-in-odi-history/ Fri, 23 May 2025 20:01:54 GMT

On May 23, 2025, Westies all-rounder Matthew Forde entered the record books with a phenomenal innings against Ireland in the second ODI at Castle Avenue, Dublin. Forde scored a 16-ball fifty, equaling AB de Villiers' long-held record for the joint fastest fifty in ODI history. Batting at number eight, Forde struck 58 off 19 balls, hitting two fours and eight sixes. With Keacy Carty scoring a century as well, the West Indies posted a formidable 352/8 in their innings, matching the Irish 124 advantage in its series-opening win in the first ODI.

Forde's 16-ball fifty equaled the incumbent record set by de Villiers himself in 2015 against the West Indies, and even so, his performance capped a display of his ability to take apart an international bowling attack. His strike rate at over 300 was a clear indication of his power-hitting. Ireland's bowlers could not put a lid on Forde's assault, the last to bear the brunt being Liam McCarthy, who reportedly dismissed him. Matthew Forde, over the previous 5 days, had already given a glimpse of his all-round ability (3 wickets and a 48-ball 38 in the first ODI), and now heavens had opened up.

The context of the match, being West Indies 1-0 down in the three-match series, makes the achievement all the more significant as the team was looking for anything to change the momentum. Forde’s whirlwind innings, combined with a solid batting foundation, provided just that, setting Ireland a challenging target. His ability to deliver under pressure underscored his growing reputation as a versatile all-rounder in West Indies cricket.

A Rising Star and Record in Context

Forde's remarkable ascent as a West Indies all-rounder was fully on display in Dublin. The fact that he has both batting and bowling capabilities means he would be viewed as a genuine prospect for the future of the team, with this type of record-setting knock showcasing his ability to virtually own games with his presence.

The joint-fastest fifty, which he shares with Baby AB de Villiers, highlights how unique Forde's achievement is. His 19-ball 58, brutally efficient and highly effective, is compounded as one of cricket's elite records, and it assures that no matter the potential of West Indies cricket or Forde's future career, his heroics in Dublin will exist as a watershed moment for him and West Indies cricket.

<![CDATA[Ireland pull off monumental victory against West Indies]]> https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/ireland-pull-of-monumental-victory-against-west-indies/ https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/ireland-pull-of-monumental-victory-against-west-indies/ Thu, 22 May 2025 00:28:46 GMT

Ireland marked a major milestone in cricket on 21 May 2025 by beating the West Indies by 124 runs in the 1st ODI of a three-match series at Clontarf Cricket Club, Dublin. After being invited to bat first after winning the toss, West Indies captain Sahi Hope looked on as Ireland set the impressive score of 303 for 6 with key performances from Andy Balbirnie (112), Harry Tector, and Lorcan Tucker for Ireland to set West Indies a challenging 304 total on a pitch offering little assistance to bowlers such as Alzarri Joseph and Jayden Seales.

West Indies' chase started poorly against disciplined Ireland bowlers and fell apart even faster than anticipated. Barry McCarthy was the instrument of destruction (4 wickets)—the first two top-order batsmen, Brandon King and Evin Lewis, were dismissed cheaply. Shai Hope did the best he could, but the run rate kept building up, and Ireland kept chipping away, resulting in the West Indies eventually being bowled out for 179 runs in 34.1 overs. Ireland accompanied their efficient bowling with a quality fielding performance to sit comfortably across the line for a comprehensive victory, which would send waves of mixed emotions and excitement across the global cricketing community.

This victory is a milestone moment for Ireland to rival their 2022 series win over the West Indies, their first ODI series victory away from home against a full member nation. This victory is part of the ICC Cricket World Cup League Two (2023-27) and supports Ireland's campaign for a place in the 2027 World Cup and demonstrates they are becoming a serious proposition for ICC members and one to watch out for.

Celebration and Reaction

The cricketing world showered praise on those with Ireland in attendance celebrating the incredible victory by such an emphatic margin. The moment fans replied with support to Irish players with beaming smiles on their faces on the field and saw the scoreboard showing a 124 winning margin clearly demonstrated their complete control over the match.

With a 1-0 lead, Ireland now wants to win the series, while the West Indies will be looking to regroup ahead of the second ODI. The future of cricket is changing. Associate nations are not only becoming stronger, but they are constantly challenging the traditional nations of the game, which creates excitement in itself for the remainder of the series.
