It has been a long-standing rule and tradition at the Docklands Stadium in Melbourne, where if the ball hits the roof, then the umpires will mostly signal it as sixes before they change it a little bit, where the umpires will not decide if the ball would have gone for six, or otherwise, they would address it as dead balls.

Such an incident took place during a clash between Melbourne Renegades and Melbourne Stars in the 30th match of the ongoing 2025/26 season of the Big Bash League (BBL). It was the third ball of the ninth over from Marcus Stoinis, to which Jake Fraser-McGurk nailed a massive shot which went straight up in the air and hit the roof of the stadium.

However, because it did not have much power to cross the boundary rope, the umpire signaled it as a dead ball. Had it touched the root portion near the boundary rope and had enough power to potentially get over the boundary, it could have been a six-signal from the umpire.

Jake Fraser McGurk’s six hits Dockland Stadium’s roof in Melbourne Derby

Renegades, who won the last Melbourne Derby at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground a week ago, posted a decent score of 166 for the loss of seven wickets in their allotted 20 overs. They are opening batter, Josh Brown was the highest run getter with 80 runs in 50 balls, thanks to his seven boundaries and four sixes.

Watch the video here:

However, apart from Brown’s contribution, there wasn’t a massive score from the other batters, with Hassan Khan being the second leading run-getter individually with 23 runs in 18 balls. For the Stars, captain Stoinis was the peak of the bowlers with three wickets in four overs for 33 runs.

The 84-run opening stand put the nail in the coffin of the Renegades before the opening wicket keeper, Sam Harper, celebrated an unbeaten knock of 84 runs in 51 balls to complete the chase by eight wickets as he was well supported by Thomas Rogers, who smashed a fine knock of 53 runs in just 24 balls.

Brief Scores: Melbourne Stars 170/2 (Sam Harper 84*, Thomas Rogers 53, Hassan Khan 1/20) beat Melbourne Renegades 166/7 (Josh Brown 80, Marcus Stoinis 3/33) by 8-wickets.

<![CDATA[“I kept trying to go..” - Jake Fraser-McGurk opens upon six-hitting pressure in IPL ahead of BBL 15]]> https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/i-kept-trying-to-go-jake-fraser-mcgurk-opens-upon-six-hitting-pressure-in-ipl-ahead-of-bbl-15/ https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/i-kept-trying-to-go-jake-fraser-mcgurk-opens-upon-six-hitting-pressure-in-ipl-ahead-of-bbl-15/ Mon, 15 Dec 2025 14:37:16 GMT

Few young cricketers have experienced a career arc quite like Jake Fraser-McGurk. At just 23, the explosive Australian opener has already tasted dizzying highs and humbling lows across the world’s biggest T20 leagues. Speaking on The Surge: Big Bash Podcast, Fraser-McGurk reflected candidly on how the pressure to deliver instant fireworks in the IPL affected his game and shaped his outlook ahead of a fresh chapter.

Fraser-McGurk burst onto the global stage during IPL 2024 with Delhi Capitals, smashing 330 runs in nine innings at a staggering strike rate of 234. Four half-centuries and fearless strokeplay made him an overnight sensation. But the following season told a different story. In IPL 2025, the right-hander managed just 55 runs from six matches, eventually losing his place in the side.

Looking back, Fraser-McGurk admitted that expectations, both internal and external, played a major role. With packed stadiums in Delhi and fans demanding a six from ball one, he felt trapped by his own reputation. Trying harder only made things worse. The key lesson, he says, was learning to “cool your jets”, trust the process and accept that success doesn’t repeat itself automatically.

Lessons learned drive Fraser-McGurk’s push for consistency before IPL 2026

That realisation comes at a crucial time. Released by Delhi Capitals, Fraser-McGurk will enter the IPL 2026 auction in Abu Dhabi with a base price of INR 2 crore. While recent numbers across T20 leagues have been modest, his raw power and X-factor still make him an attractive prospect for franchises seeking an aggressive top-order option.

Before the auction spotlight returns, Fraser-McGurk’s immediate focus is the Big Bash League. Preparing for his sixth BBL season with the Melbourne Renegades, he believes the squad has the balance and depth to challenge for the title. More importantly, it offers him a platform to rediscover rhythm without the weight of expectation.

Wiser from experience, Fraser-McGurk now understands that longevity at the top isn’t built on constant sixes, but on adaptability, patience and growth, lessons learned the hard way, but learned early.

In the 3rd Match of the 2025 Major League Cricket (MLC) season, the San Francisco Unicorns faced the Los Angeles Knight Riders at the Oakland Coliseum, California. The Knight Riders decided to bowl first, but the Unicorns' aggressive batting and merciless bowling confirmed them a 32-run win, extending their winning streak in the tournament.

Batting first, the San Francisco Unicorns dominated with a score of 219/8 in 20 overs. Jake Fraser-McGurk was incredible, hammering 88 off 38 balls, as Finn Allen gave a scintillating start with 52 from 27 balls. <![CDATA[IPL 2025: Major Update! DC's star batter ready to face RCB after Injury Layoff]]> https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/ipl-2025-major-update-dc-s-star-batter-ready-to-face-rcb-after-injury-layoff/ https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/ipl-2025-major-update-dc-s-star-batter-ready-to-face-rcb-after-injury-layoff/ Sun, 27 Apr 2025 00:30:38 GMT

Ahead of a crucial clash against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), Delhi Capitals (DC) in the IPL 2025 have received a major boost as star opener Faf du Plessis has reportedly regained full fitness. Jake Fraser-McGurk, who has been opening for DC but has been battling his own inconsistency (and an injury of his own) on one of the more consistent franchises in the league, gave an update on du Plessis' availability for the match. "I think he's available tomorrow, from what I understand. He should be available for selection, is my understanding," revealed McGurk when asked about the availability of DC's senior opening batsman.

Although du Plessis has only played three games in IPL 2025 due to various fitness issues, he has made an impact with a half-century. DC cannot have found a better time for his addition to the top order, as he brings experience and power before an important fixture at Arun Jaitley Stadium. As a former skipper of RCB, du Plessis may be able to provide useful information to DC in that regard.

Delhi Capitals Targeting Top Spot Against RCB

Delhi Capitals sneak up the table with 12 points and are looking for another win to secure the top spot. A victory for Delhi Capitals against RCB will seal their chances of a playoff berth, as well as a top-two finish and a huge advantage when heading into the knockout stages of the IPL.

Also Read: IPL 2025: KKR vs PBKS match abandoned – Which team gained the most?

Clearly, RCB has had a good season so far, and they're desperate to be sure of their playoff position too. Delhi Capitals fancied their chances last time they met earlier this IPL 2025 season at Chinnaswamy, where they scored 163/7 in just 18.5 overs, led by KL Rahul's unbeaten 93*, but much has changed since then. RCB was aggressive, and if another great batting performance is what Delhi Capitals are hoping for, then their batsmen that are familiar with Arun Jaitley's good batting pitch and established spinners for this match, like Kuldeep Yadav and Axar Patel, are the ticket they hope will lead them to success. On the other hand, if Faf du Plessis is back in the squad, then Delhi Capitals will attempt to find the winning formula again.

The Faf team's experience will help take some pressure off the young batting group and give them a platform at the top of the innings. With both teams aiming to arrive at their tipping point for a well-fought season, keep an eye out for how Du Plessis is the catalyst that delivers Delhi Capitals the chance to finish last week's game heroically in IPL 2025.

The Indian Premier League stands with a Sanskrit Slogan, "Yatra Pratibha Avsara Prapnotihi", which translates to where talent meets opportunity, symbolising an open platform for everyone to showcase their cricketing abilities, be it the local or overseas players. Foreign campaigners have played a significant role in evolving IPL into what it is now.

Many have left a long-lasting impact and created fanbases, signifying their gameplay and attitude. With the recent retention list having some unexpected releases, it is evident that not just the franchises but even the franchises would be up for an intense ride in the upcoming 2025 IPL Mega Auction. That said, here are the probable five foreign players who have the potential to convert their most expensive bids in the forthcoming Mega Auction.

Jos Buttler

Jos Buttler's release from the Rajasthan Royals squads was the most shocking regarding the foreign player's released list. Jos Buttler is among the most beloved foreign players with an ardent fanbase, thanks to his impactful calibre and genuine personality. Buttler acted as a saviour in many instances for the Rajasthan Royals side, where he talked with the bat and occasionally as a captain and wicketkeeper.

With many teams eager to have a robust captain and wicketkeeper batter option in their squads, it is no surprise that the English cricketer attracts one of the highest bids in the upcoming 2025 IPL Mega Auction.

Glenn Maxwell

Glenn Maxwell and his future stint with Royal Challenger Bengaluru was under the grey clouds, as he couldn't perform up to the mark. But the whole cricketing world is aware of his impeccable impact creation as a batter, bowler and fielder, not just limited to the IPL but even on an International level. Though he didn't unleash his game in the previous edition, Maxwell's association with the Bengaluru franchise has been valuable, where the team had the prominent trio of KGF (Kohli, Glenn & Faf).

Maxwell has always been known for having memorable seasons for a few franchises, and no doubt the cluster of ten sides would be eager to break the bank for him. Though his release surprised many, as his former franchise has three Right-to-Match (RTM) cards, he will likely return to his old squad.

Faf du Plessis

Faf du Plessis rose to fame as a reliable opening batter and a side captain, and he got them to the playoffs twice out of his three captaincy tenures. Faf has been a mastermind in Royal Challengers Bengaluru's impeccable comeback to the playoffs spot from rock bottom.

To add the cherry on top, he has recently led a triumphant Lucia Kings to their first title in the recent Carribean Premier League edition (CPL). As it implies, several teams are eager to have the South African captain on their roster, making him one of the probable overseas players who can have a huge lump sum of money through the upcoming Mega Auction process.

Also Read: IPL 2025: Top-5 probable most expensive Indian players in the upcoming IPL Mega Auction

Trent Boult

Trent Boult has been one of the prominent left-hand pacers in the cricket world. He is humorously touted as the football player, thanks to his powerplay run giving nightmares to the batters and having bowling figures equivalent to a football game scorecard. Whatever the franchise it was, the Kiwi speedster always left a long-lasting impact on the ball and has gone along with his respective franchises.

Especially in a batters-dominated T20I landscape, there would be many rosters who would be willing to go for a high bid for acquiring Trent Boult's lethal pace and athletism, keeping in mind that the IPL Mega Auction is known for having players in the long run.

Jake Fraser-McGurk

Jake Fraser-McGurk rose to fame for his swashbuckling batting approach and bolstering the team's batting order. Played his first-ever IPL edition for the Delhi Capitals, McGurk was able to obtain a colossal strike rate in just a minimal number of matches, which signifies his promising and astute power-hitter.

Despite his memorable run, Delhi Capitals has released his services but could have a possible retention through the RTM cards feature. However, it is evident that several teams are eager to acquire him in the long run, as this tournament has been a cornerstone in evolving new and emerging talent.
