<![CDATA[IPL 2025: Major Update! DC's star batter ready to face RCB after Injury Layoff]]> https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/ipl-2025-major-update-dc-s-star-batter-ready-to-face-rcb-after-injury-layoff/ https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/ipl-2025-major-update-dc-s-star-batter-ready-to-face-rcb-after-injury-layoff/ Sun, 27 Apr 2025 00:30:38 GMT

Ahead of a crucial clash against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), Delhi Capitals (DC) in the IPL 2025 have received a major boost as star opener Faf du Plessis has reportedly regained full fitness. Jake Fraser-McGurk, who has been opening for DC but has been battling his own inconsistency (and an injury of his own) on one of the more consistent franchises in the league, gave an update on du Plessis' availability for the match. "I think he's available tomorrow, from what I understand. He should be available for selection, is my understanding," revealed McGurk when asked about the availability of DC's senior opening batsman.

Although du Plessis has only played three games in IPL 2025 due to various fitness issues, he has made an impact with a half-century. DC cannot have found a better time for his addition to the top order, as he brings experience and power before an important fixture at Arun Jaitley Stadium. As a former skipper of RCB, du Plessis may be able to provide useful information to DC in that regard.

Delhi Capitals Targeting Top Spot Against RCB

Delhi Capitals sneak up the table with 12 points and are looking for another win to secure the top spot. A victory for Delhi Capitals against RCB will seal their chances of a playoff berth, as well as a top-two finish and a huge advantage when heading into the knockout stages of the IPL.

Also Read: IPL 2025: KKR vs PBKS match abandoned – Which team gained the most?

Clearly, RCB has had a good season so far, and they're desperate to be sure of their playoff position too. Delhi Capitals fancied their chances last time they met earlier this IPL 2025 season at Chinnaswamy, where they scored 163/7 in just 18.5 overs, led by KL Rahul's unbeaten 93*, but much has changed since then. RCB was aggressive, and if another great batting performance is what Delhi Capitals are hoping for, then their batsmen that are familiar with Arun Jaitley's good batting pitch and established spinners for this match, like Kuldeep Yadav and Axar Patel, are the ticket they hope will lead them to success. On the other hand, if Faf du Plessis is back in the squad, then Delhi Capitals will attempt to find the winning formula again.

The Faf team's experience will help take some pressure off the young batting group and give them a platform at the top of the innings. With both teams aiming to arrive at their tipping point for a well-fought season, keep an eye out for how Du Plessis is the catalyst that delivers Delhi Capitals the chance to finish last week's game heroically in IPL 2025.

The Indian Premier League stands with a Sanskrit Slogan, "Yatra Pratibha Avsara Prapnotihi", which translates to where talent meets opportunity, symbolising an open platform for everyone to showcase their cricketing abilities, be it the local or overseas players. Foreign campaigners have played a significant role in evolving IPL into what it is now.

Many have left a long-lasting impact and created fanbases, signifying their gameplay and attitude. With the recent retention list having some unexpected releases, it is evident that not just the franchises but even the franchises would be up for an intense ride in the upcoming 2025 IPL Mega Auction. That said, here are the probable five foreign players who have the potential to convert their most expensive bids in the forthcoming Mega Auction.

Jos Buttler

Jos Buttler's release from the Rajasthan Royals squads was the most shocking regarding the foreign player's released list. Jos Buttler is among the most beloved foreign players with an ardent fanbase, thanks to his impactful calibre and genuine personality. Buttler acted as a saviour in many instances for the Rajasthan Royals side, where he talked with the bat and occasionally as a captain and wicketkeeper.

With many teams eager to have a robust captain and wicketkeeper batter option in their squads, it is no surprise that the English cricketer attracts one of the highest bids in the upcoming 2025 IPL Mega Auction.

Glenn Maxwell

Glenn Maxwell and his future stint with Royal Challenger Bengaluru was under the grey clouds, as he couldn't perform up to the mark. But the whole cricketing world is aware of his impeccable impact creation as a batter, bowler and fielder, not just limited to the IPL but even on an International level. Though he didn't unleash his game in the previous edition, Maxwell's association with the Bengaluru franchise has been valuable, where the team had the prominent trio of KGF (Kohli, Glenn & Faf).

Maxwell has always been known for having memorable seasons for a few franchises, and no doubt the cluster of ten sides would be eager to break the bank for him. Though his release surprised many, as his former franchise has three Right-to-Match (RTM) cards, he will likely return to his old squad.

Faf du Plessis

Faf du Plessis rose to fame as a reliable opening batter and a side captain, and he got them to the playoffs twice out of his three captaincy tenures. Faf has been a mastermind in Royal Challengers Bengaluru's impeccable comeback to the playoffs spot from rock bottom.

To add the cherry on top, he has recently led a triumphant Lucia Kings to their first title in the recent Carribean Premier League edition (CPL). As it implies, several teams are eager to have the South African captain on their roster, making him one of the probable overseas players who can have a huge lump sum of money through the upcoming Mega Auction process.

Also Read: IPL 2025: Top-5 probable most expensive Indian players in the upcoming IPL Mega Auction

Trent Boult

Trent Boult has been one of the prominent left-hand pacers in the cricket world. He is humorously touted as the football player, thanks to his powerplay run giving nightmares to the batters and having bowling figures equivalent to a football game scorecard. Whatever the franchise it was, the Kiwi speedster always left a long-lasting impact on the ball and has gone along with his respective franchises.

Especially in a batters-dominated T20I landscape, there would be many rosters who would be willing to go for a high bid for acquiring Trent Boult's lethal pace and athletism, keeping in mind that the IPL Mega Auction is known for having players in the long run.

Jake Fraser-McGurk

Jake Fraser-McGurk rose to fame for his swashbuckling batting approach and bolstering the team's batting order. Played his first-ever IPL edition for the Delhi Capitals, McGurk was able to obtain a colossal strike rate in just a minimal number of matches, which signifies his promising and astute power-hitter.

Despite his memorable run, Delhi Capitals has released his services but could have a possible retention through the RTM cards feature. However, it is evident that several teams are eager to acquire him in the long run, as this tournament has been a cornerstone in evolving new and emerging talent.

<![CDATA[Jake Fraser-McGurk and Matt Short set to join Australia’s T20 WC travelling reserves]]> https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/jake-fraser-mcgurk-and-matt-short-set-to-join-australias-t20-wc-travelling-reserves/ https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/jake-fraser-mcgurk-and-matt-short-set-to-join-australias-t20-wc-travelling-reserves/ Mon, 20 May 2024 12:21:25 GMT

Australia is gearing up for the T20 World Cup 2024, which will be held in the Caribbean Islands and the United States of America. As part of their preparations, Australia has taken two traveling reserves, Jake Fraser-McGurk and Matthew Short, to provide cover in case of a tournament-ending injury to any of the first-choice 15 players.

Australia’s core squad includes seasoned players like David Warner, Travis Head, and captain Mitchell Marsh. This experienced trio is expected to lead from the front, providing stability and explosive power at the top of the order.

Travelling Reserves

Travelling reserves play a crucial role in the dynamics of a World Cup squad. The backup players can step in if a main squad member gets injured. Jake Fraser-McGurk and Matthew Short have been chosen for this role due to their impressive performances and versatility.

Analysis of Jake Fraser-McGurk

Jake Fraser-McGurk’s omission from the main squad sparked debates, especially considering his stunning form in the IPL. His aggressive batting style and ability to score quickly have been his standout traits. Fraser-McGurk, yet to make his T20I debut, provides a backup option for the established top three. He would step in seamlessly and maintain the team’s aggressive approach if top-order players were unavailable.

Analysis of Matthew Short

Matthew Short has consistently performed in T20Is in nine of Australia’s last 14 matches. His ability to adapt to various batting positions and contribute with part-time off-spin makes him a valuable asset. Short’s versatility allows him to cover multiple roles. He can open the innings, bat in the middle order, and even bowl an over or two if required. This flexibility is crucial in a high-stakes tournament like the T20 World Cup.

Australia’s Spin Strategy

Ashton Agar’s inclusion as the primary spinner is a strategic move, considering his experience and effectiveness in T20s. His left-arm orthodox spin provides variety and control in the middle overs. Australia has opted to avoid carrying an additional frontline spinner in the reserves. This decision is influenced by the need for versatile players who can adapt to various roles and Tanveer Sangha’s current fitness concerns.

Pace Attack

The formidable trio of Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, and Josh Hazlewood spearheads Australia’s pace attack. Their ability to strike early and control the deathovers will be critical to Australia’s success.

Spencer Johnson, Xavier Bartlett, and Sean Abbott are in the UK playing the T20 Blast but are on standby to join the squad if needed. This strategy ensures that Australia has ready replacements available without disrupting the main squad’s preparations.

All-Round Options

Cameron Green’s inclusion provides balance to the squad. His all-around capabilities, especially his batting depth, allow Australia to play an extra bowler or a second spinner, depending on the conditions.

Preparations for the Tournament

Australia’s non-IPL players will fly to the Caribbean for a training camp in Trinidad, including practice matches against Namibia and West Indies. These matches will help the team acclimatize to the local conditions and fine-tune their strategies.

The IPL playoffs’ schedule means some key players, like Pat Cummins and Glenn Maxwell, will join the squad later. This staggered arrival could affect the team’s preparations and allow other players to participate in the warm-up matches.

Mitchell Marsh’s appointment as Australia’s permanent T20I captain headlines the squad announcement, with Cricket Australia confirming the star all-rounder’s leadership role. Marsh’s previous experience as interim captain in the T20I series has impressed selectors, paving the way for his captaincy stint in the upcoming tournament.

Australia’s Bowling Department

The inclusion of Ashton Agar as the second specialist spinner underscores Australia’s emphasis on bolstering their spin options for the T20 World Cup. Agar’s presence adds depth to the spin department, providing crucial variations in the team’s bowling arsenal.

Nathan Ellis’ inclusion as the fourth fast bowler alongside stalwarts like Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood, and Mitchell Starc reflects Australia’s depth in the pace department. Ellis’ promising performances have earned him a spot in the squad, adding further firepower to Australia’s formidable bowling lineup.

Exclusion of Fraser-McGurk and Smith

The omission of Jake Fraser-McGurk and seasoned campaigner Steve Smith, despite his impressive performances in IPL 2024, has stirred controversy. While Fraser-McGurk showcased his batting prowess with the Delhi Capitals, selectors favoured versatility in Cameron Green and Josh Inglis, leading to their inclusion over Fraser-McGurk and Smith.

Mark Waugh’s Opinion on the Squad Selection

Former Australian cricketer and commentator Mark Waugh expressed his views on the squad selection, expressing surprise at Fraser-McGurk’s exclusion. Waugh believes Fraser-McGurk’s versatility should have earned him a place in the squad, along with the inclusion of Matt Short.

Waugh feels Jake Fraser-McGurk should have been there. Waugh mentioned that Fraser-McGurk can do anything, and he should have been picked in the 15-member squad. The Aussie great also mentioned that Matt Short should have been also named in the team.

Jake Fraser-McGurk should be in the T20 World Cup squad because he can give a blistering start to his team, which helps lower-order batters to set a big total on board.

In the ongoing Indian Premier League, the 23-year-old has a batting strike rate of 233.33 for the Delhi Capitals and has scored 259 runs, with more than half of those coming from sixes.

Mark Waugh wrote on X (formerly known as Twitter): “Aust would have been even more powerful with Jake Fraser Mc in the line up.”

Mark Waugh wrote on X (formerly known as Twitter): “A very strong squad no doubt that should be hard to beat but to leave out JFM is quite frankly hard to fathom. I would also have had Matt Short in.”

He also wrote: “Yes Short for Agar and you don’t need both Stoinis and Green in the squad. We know what we are getting with all the squad but with JFM we don’t know his ceiling. He could be anything.”
