In the 26th match of The Hundred 2025, London Spirit took on Southern Brave at Lord’s. Southern Brave captain James Vince won the toss and decided to bowl first. Both teams made one change. Chris Jordan missed out for the Brave, with Jordan Thompson coming in, while Spirit brought in Jafer Chohan for Daniel Worral.

David Warner and Jamie Smith gave Spirit a flying start, adding 66 runs for the first wicket. Warner made 25, while Smith smashed a quick 44 off just 18 balls with four fours and three sixes. Kane Williamson kept the momentum going with a classy 53 from 28 balls. In the end, Jamie Overton’s 16 from runs in 7 balls pushed them to 186/4.

The chase never really clicked for the Brave. They lost both openers, Vince and Leus du Plooy, with only 16 on the board. Jason Roy tried to fight back with 37 off 23 balls, and Laurie Evans also hit 37 from 21, but the rest of the batting fell apart. Southern Brave were bowled out for 139 in 92 balls, giving London Spirit a 47-run win. Richard Gleeson and Liam Dawson were the pick of the bowlers, taking three wickets each.

<![CDATA[[WATCH] ENG vs IND 5th Test: Dhruv Jurel caught behind, length delivery from Mohammed Siraj clinched Jamie Smith]]> https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/eng-vs-ind-5th-test-dhruv-jurel-caught-behind-length-delivery-from-mohammed-siraj-clinched-jamie-smith/ https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/eng-vs-ind-5th-test-dhruv-jurel-caught-behind-length-delivery-from-mohammed-siraj-clinched-jamie-smith/ Mon, 04 Aug 2025 16:24:43 GMT

Mohammed Siraj and India got their man early. In-form batsman Jamie Smith went back to the pavilion after a fine edge early on Day 5, the last day to decide the fate of the game and the Anderson-Tendulkar trophy.

After dismissing Harry Brook and Joe Root, the boys in blue sneaked back into the contest by taking wicket after wicket at short intervals. Jamie Smith and Jamie Overton, both well established with batting skills, started Day 5 for England to wrap up the match. After Day 4, the home team needed only 35 runs to win, with still 4 wickets in hand.

The early moment of Day 5 ignited with a banger from Siraj. He took Jamie Smith. The keeper-batter of the England team lost his wicket for only 2 off 20; India got some extra oxygen to breathe under an intense situation at The Oval.

In the 3rd delivery of the 78th over, Siraj, like before, put focus on the length and delivered the ball, maintaining a line around the off stump. The right-handed batsman tried to guide the ball towards the cover region but got only a feather edge. Dhruv Jurel behind the stumps did the gathering safely. Indian cricketers were confident about the dismissal, but the umpire, Kumar Dharmasena, was in doubt. Kumar Dharmasena walks over to the leg umpire' Ahsan Raza. He wants to check if the catch was clean.

One replay was enough to confirm the edge and the catch. When Smith was gone, England was 347 for 7. The match got more competitive and thrilling than before.

ENG vs IND 2nd Test scoreboard:

 • IND: 587 and 64/1 (13 overs, second innings)
 • ENG: 407
 • IND leads by 244 runs.

A rollercoaster day at Edgbaston, Birmingham. From a couple hundred to the showstopper bowling performance by Mohammed Siraj and Akash Deep, every element was in Day 3 of the ongoing 2nd Test between England and India.

England was on top of their game until Jamie Smith and Harry Brook were on the crease. Back-to-back strikes from Siraj and Akash put India in the game and make the battle more balanced. Brook and Smith formed a 303-run partnership of 368 deliveries. Prasidh Krishna was the most expensive for India. Smith found Krishna as the weak link of India's bowling attack and hammered.

Brook returned to the dugout after making 158, while Smith remained not out for an individual 184. After the departure of his long-standing partner, Smith had no option but to witness the remaining part of the team come and go. The duo started to fight back when England lost 5 wickets on 84, and when the partnership broke, it was 387. If Smith got more support from the lower part of the batting lineup, England could've scored more than 407. They lost 5 wickets in 20 runs because of a brilliant spell by Siraj and Deep.

England’s wicket-keeper Jamie Smith played a brilliant innings on Day 3 of the second Test against India. He looked in great form, scoring his century in just 80 balls with 14 fours and 3 sixes.

Smith made history by becoming the first England batter since 1877 to score over 100 runs in one session before lunch without being not out overnight.
He came in when England was in big trouble and added a crucial 165-run partnership with Harry Brook. This stand helped steady things after Mohammed Siraj removed Joe Root and Ben Stokes in back-to-back deliveries early in the morning.

Siraj’s double blow left England at 84 for 5, but Smith fought back with attacking shots.
By lunch, England had reached 249 for 5. Smith was unbeaten on 102 from 82 balls, and Brook was on 91. England scored 172 runs in just 27 overs before lunch. Smith was especially hard on the bowlers. Prasidh Krishna tried a short-ball plan with six fielders on the leg side, but Smith smashed 23 runs in one over with four boundaries and a six. Krishna went for 61 runs in his eight overs before lunch without taking a wicket.

Smith didn’t let the spinners settle either. He hit Washington Sundar for two fours in his first two balls and then took a six and a four off Ravindra Jadeja in the next over.
Smith got to his second Test hundred the third fastest by an England player with back-to-back fours off Jadeja just before lunch. It was a superb knock that brought England back into the game after India’s huge first-innings score of 587.

Jamie Smith explaining how to play Bazball in a proper manner. That never-die attitude came right from him after England lost multiple major wickets during the initial stage of their 1st innings on Day 3 of the ongoing 2nd Test of the five-match series in Edgbaston, the fortress of team England in the longest format of the game.

England lost 5 wickets within 90 runs on the scoreboard. From there, Harry Brook and Smith have taken the score past 300. During the development of the article, England was on 323 for 5. Brook is batting on 116, and Smith already completed an individual 150 with a strike rate over a hundred.

India, batting first, scored 587 on the scoreboard, a commendable total, thanks to captain Shubman Gill's record-breaking 269-run knock. The boys in blue started their bowling according to the plan and took some quick wickets to destabilize England's batting line-up.

Can England able to overhaule the massive total set by India?

Akash Deep's brace and 3 from Mohammed Siraj pushed the host behind and kept India in the front seat until the Bazball came into the game. Brook's power-hitting abilities are globally recognized, and in the previous match at Headingley, he troubled India a lot.

In the ongoing contest, he has been doing his job in a more enhanced way, facing the red ball more cautiously. On the other side of the wicket, Smith has been treating the match like a limited overs competition.

Relay catches are very common in T20 cricket. When a fielder near the boundary line takes a catch and starts going out of the field, he throws the ball inside. Sometimes, the same fielder comes back in and catches it again. But many times, another fielder standing nearby catches the ball. When another fielder catches the thrown ball, it is called a relay catch.

This type of catch is almost never seen in Test cricket. But on the third day of the first Test match between India and England, a rare relay catch was seen — something usually seen only in T20 matches.

Right after lunch, England’s wicketkeeper-batter Jamie Smith got out on the bowling of Prasidh Krishna. The way his catch was taken shocked everyone. Ravindra Jadeja and Sai Sudarshan together took the catch. Even though the International Cricket Council (ICC) has changed the rule about boundary catches, this one was accepted.

How the Catch Happened

Just after lunch, fast bowler Prasidh Krishna bowled the 79th over. On the third ball of the over, Jamie Smith pulled a short ball outside the off stump. The ball went towards Ravindra Jadeja at deep square leg. Jadeja took a brilliant catch, but as he felt he might cross the boundary line, he threw the ball towards Sai Sudarshan, who was standing nearby. Sudarshan completed the catch safely. Smith scored 40 runs off 52 balls.

Some questions were raised about the catch, but the new ICC rule makes it valid. Jadeja had full control of the ball inside the boundary and released it before stepping out. Since Sudarshan caught it inside the field, the catch was given out.

From June 17, the ICC introduced a new rule for boundary catches. As per the new rule, if a fielder jumps in the air and crosses the boundary, he can touch the ball only once. To complete the catch, he must return inside the boundary and then catch it again.

Earlier, a fielder could bounce or tap the ball multiple times in the air while outside the boundary, as long as he was not touching the ground. Also, if a player threw the ball back inside while airborne outside the boundary, the catch was valid only if that player re-entered the field before the second fielder caught it.

India missed many chances in the match. Even though Jasprit Bumrah dismissed Zak Crawley in the first over, the team dropped several important catches. Jadeja dropped Ben Duckett on 15 runs – a rare mistake – and other easy chances were missed. Duckett and Ollie Pope used those chances well and built a 122-run partnership, bringing England back into the match.
