New Zealand batter Daryl Mitchell shared a heartfelt moment of admiration after receiving a signed jersey from India’s batting icon Virat Kohli, following the conclusion of the recently finished India vs New Zealand ODI series. The gesture came just minutes after New Zealand defeated India by 41 runs in the third ODI, sealing the three-match series 2–1.

Mitchell maintained his excellent performance during the series while showing great respect for Kohli because he considered the jersey to be a valuable item that he would keep for life. “It’ll definitely be framed somewhere in the office for many years to come. I’ve got so much respect for Virat for how he plays the game, how he does it day in, day out for almost two decades now,” Mitchell told Hindustan Times. He admitted to being inspired by the Indian superstar while he described Kohli's batting style and his general approach toward playing cricket.

Mitchell delivered an exceptional performance during the match. He tormented the Indian bowling attack with two centuries in the series and played a pivotal role in the decider, scoring a commanding 137 off 131 balls to help New Zealand post a daunting total of 337 runs. His consistency and composure earned him the Player of the Series award, having amassed 352 runs at a staggering average of 176.

Nepal set for third T20 World Cup appearance as Trophy Tour reaches Kathmandu

Starting last year, the Trophy Tour that began with Adam's Bridge has gone through several Asian countries, granting fans a once-in-a-lifetime chance to see the famous silverware from a close distance. In Nepal, the trophy was presented to the two national teams during the ceremony that honored the players.

Chatur Bahadur Chand, the president of CAN, declared that Nepal would participate in the T20 World Cup for the third time, saying it was a great honor. Nepal is in Group C with England, West Indies, Bangladesh, and Italy, and all their group matches are set to take place in Mumbai.

The tournament will take place from February 7 to March 8 with 20 teams sharing eight venues between India and Sri Lanka, and Nepal will take another confident step on the global stage.

Kiplin Doriga, a wicketkeeper-batsman from Papua New Guinea, has been formally charged with robbery following a September 2025 incident that occurred in St. Helier, Jersey, as part of the ICC Cricket World Cup Challenge League.  Doriga, 29, was arrested in the wee hours of August 25, 2025, and consequently made an appearance in court before a magistrate on August 27. 

Doriga pleaded guilty, but the court indicated the level of alleged crime was too serious for the magistrate to deal with, and therefore, the matter has been referred to a royal court, where there will be another scheduled hearing on November 28, 2025. Das not bail nor am I in custody until an off-form of November hearing is at hand. 

Doriga is a senior member of PNG cricket and has represented the country in the 2021 T20 World Cup and 2024 T20 World Cup. He has also played 39 ODIs and 43 T20Is for PNG and amassed over 1,000 runs (2589) in international matches. While his recent arrest has thrown a spanner into PNG's readiness to face Canada and pertaining to the contest in Jersey, Cricket PNG has indicated the situation is an individual incident, and the team is independent of his circumstance, in regard to the completion and participation once the tournament is confirmed to generate funds for families.

Papua New Guinea’s Challenge League Performance

Papua New Guinea had a mixed overall performance in the CWC Challenge League. They played a total of nine matches during their two phases of the tournament and came away with four wins, four losses, and one no result. They finish the first phase with nine points and a net run rate of -0.131

PNG got off to a good start in the September-October 2024 leg of the tournament, winning matches against Denmark, Qatar, Kuwait, and Kenya. They were on song with bat and ball, and expectations were high for a good finish. However, the 2025 phase in Jersey proved tricky for PNG, as they lost to Denmark, Kuwait, and Jersey, the last being a heavy defeat by 160 runs, and rain washed out their encounter with Kenya.

Despite the inconsistencies of the side, there were some outstanding individual achievements. Captain Assad Vala led all comers with the bat with 213 runs at 35.50, which included an innings of 129 not out. Seam bowler Kabua Morea was also outstanding, taking 23 wickets at 16.08. Underlined his worth to the side as PNG’s go-to bowler.

Tournament Context

The Challenge League forms an important part of the ICC’s pathway for associate nations with a goal to qualify for the 2027 Cricket World Cup. PNG still remains in the qualification picture but will need to be more consistent in the final phase in Qatar next year.

The fifth brand on the list is Byjus. The Ed-tech brand from India was on the Indian jersey from 2019 to 2023. They were the part of a Indian jersey for four years.

Dream 11:

The sixth one and the current continuing brand is Dream 11. The fantasy gaming app is part of the Indian jersey from 2023 to 2026 and it's currently going on. Dream 11 had signed a three year deal with the team India for the jersey sponsorship and shed approximately 360 crore for a three year deal.

A security manager has allegedly stolen IPL jerseys worth INR 6.52 lakh from the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI) official merchandise store at Wankhede Stadium. The Mumbai Police have registered a case after the matter came into the light. According to reports, a recent audit revealed missing stock. Investigations are underway as Marine Drive Police have filed an FIR under Section 306. 

Post the missing stock was reported, BCCI officials reviewed CCTV footage and the security guard carrying a cardboard box was revealed. The complaint was filed by Hemang Bharat Kumar Amin (44), a BCCI employee on July 17. Jerseys belonging to IPL franchises such as Mumbai Indians, Chennai Super Kings, Delhi Capitals, Royal Challengers Bengaluru, and others were missing. 

IPL 2026 mini auction is expected to take place in January-February

Speaking of IPL 2025, the final was played between Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Punjab Kings. Both the teams had never won an IPL trophy since the inception of the league. But RCB eventually won the cup by defeating PBKS by 6 runs. This was the second time the Punjab franchise was in the finals of the league.
