The left-arm India and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) pacer, Khaleel Ahmed, has cut short his deal in the County Championship 2025 for Essex after playing two first-class games. He had initially signed for a two-month stint with the team, which would have seen him play six first-class fixtures till the remainder of the first-class season.

Besides that, Khaleel Ahmed was supposed to be part of a maximum of ten possible List A games in the One-day Cup. The club announced his signing in June, after he impressed the management with a fine spell of 4/70 for India A during the red-ball game against the England Lions.

However, Essex released a press statement to confirm the news of the pacer returning home.We fully support Khaleel's decision and are grateful for the contributions he made during his time with us.They revealed, besides showing his disappointment.

In this year’s 14 IPL 2025 innings, the experienced campaigner has picked up 15 wickets at an average of under 30 and an economy rate of nearly 9.60.

Rajasthan kept him in the squad and also picked him for last year’s Duleep Trophy. Across 22 first-class games, he has bagged 60 wickets at an average of 30.13. He will also be in contention for the inter-zonal Duleep Trophy competition, which begins India’s red-ball season on August 28.

In Match 5 of the season for the 2025 Global Super League, Rangpur Riders edged out Hobart Hurricanes in a close 1-run win at the Providence Stadium in Guyana. Put in to bat, the Riders scored 151/6 in 20 overs, driven by an outstanding 67 off 42 from opener Kyle Mayers and a consistent 43 off 31 by Ibrahim Zadran. Despite a brilliant bowling effort from Usama Mir (3/15), Hobart was set a competitive target.

In reply, the Hurricanes came close but were ultimately bowled out for 150 in 20 overs, falling heartbreakingly short. Mohammad Nabi top-scored with 44 (36), and Ben McDermott added a quick 34 (19), but tight death bowling from Khaled Ahmed (4/26) and Iftikhar Ahmed (2/13) sealed the win for Rangpur.

India left-arm pacer Khaleel Ahmed is all set for his maiden County stint, having signed with Essex for the remainder of the County Championship and the entire One-Day Cup. The 27-year-old joins the club on a two-month deal that runs through late September, covering up to six first-class matches and as many as ten List A games, depending on Essex’s progress.

Khaleel, who was recently part of the India A squad that faced the England Lions, will link up with the Essex squad in York and is available for selection for the Championship match against Yorkshire starting Sunday.

I have heard a lot about the rich history of the Club, and I'm excited to be part of it,” said Khaleel.I’m looking forward to playing at Chelmsford, meeting the loyal Essex Members and fans, and delivering performances they can be proud of.” Essex’s Director of Cricket, Chris Silverwood, who previously coached England, welcomed the signing, highlighting Khaleel’s left-arm angle as a fresh option in the squad.

We were impressed with his performances for India A,” said Silverwood. “As a left-arm seamer, he offers something different and will add a new dynamic to our already strong attack.Khaleel has represented India in 11 ODIs and 18 T20Is, picking up 28 wickets in total. He has also played 20 first-class matches, taking 56 wickets at an average of 27.67.

Part of a Growing Legacy of Indians at Essex

Khaleel now joins a select group of Indian players who have turned out for Essex over the years. The list includes:

 • Ravi Shastri (1991) – The former India captain played a full season as an all-rounder.
 • Anil Kumble (1995) – Had a sensational season, claiming 105 wickets in red-ball cricket.
 • Murali Vijay (2018) – Played a brief but impactful stint after India's England tour.

Now in 2025, Khaleel becomes the fourth Indian to wear the Essex jersey, continuing a low-key yet notable association between Indian cricketers and the Chelmsford-based club.

Indian Presence in County Cricket This Year

Apart from Khaleel, several other Indian players have signed short-term deals across the County circuit:

 • Ishan Kishan – Nottinghamshire
 • Tilak Varma – Hampshire
 • Ruturaj Gaikwad – Yorkshire
 • Yuzvendra Chahal – Northamptonshire

With Essex currently sitting eighth in Division One of the Championship, Khaleel’s arrival comes at a critical time as they aim to climb the table and mount a strong One-Day Cup campaign.

Virat Kohli has often made the headlines for his aggressive intent on the field. Not many have been able to look straight up at his eyes and play with fire but Khaleel Ahmed of the Chennai Super Kings happened to show an intent for the daunting task. The left-arm pacer, who was engaged in an animated chat with Kohli, the last time CSK and RCB interacted, showed signs of courage with his wild reaction after assisting in the former RCB captain's wicket on Saturday.

Sam Curran was summoned with the white cherry in hand for his second burst after the eleventh over when Kohli looked at his fluent best. On the fifth ball of the over, the Englishman bowled a short ball outside the stumps, asking the batter to reach for it.

However, the former Indian skipper waited for the ball to come and tried to attempt an upper cut. The timing wasn't appropriate on it, and the ball flew straight into the hands of Khaleel Ahmed, stationed at backward point. Having grabbed the ball with firm hands, the Rajasthan pacer threw the ball into the ground out of frustration, sparking a new chapter in their previous controversy.

Backdrop of Kohli-Khaleel rivalry

During the eighth match of the ensuing IPL edition, CSK and RCB faced off against one another at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai, where Khaleel almost outfoxed Kohli in the third over itself. Donning the new ball, the left-armer bowled a length delivery on the first ball of the third over, that nipped enough to beat the inside edge of the right-hander's intended flick and thud the pad. As it seemed to the naked eye, Khaleel overcelebrated before Kohli's decision to review turned out in RCB's favour.

Following the match, Kohli was seen engaging in an animated discussion with the CSK pacer, who was trying to explain what happened on the field. By his gestures, Khaleel looked apologetic, but Kohli seemed stubborn. The recent catch of Khaleel seemed to have fueled the rivalry to a new chapter, with the 26-year-old yet to respond.

At the time of writing, RCB were batting at 188/5 in 18.5 overs with Khaleel being spanked for a flurry of boundaries by Romario Shepherd.

In an IPL 2025 season that has pushed Chennai Super Kings' depth and resilience to the limit, there has been one name that has stood out consistently Khaleel Ahmed. The left-arm pacer once again justified his place in CSK's lineup during their narrow loss to Punjab Kings at Chepauk, producing a match-winning performance in a high-scoring encounter.

While most CSK bowlers leaked runs at more than nine an over, Khaleel kept things tight and showed control under pressure. He picked up two crucial wickets those of Priyansh Arya and Suryansh Shedge at key moments, helping CSK drag the game into the final over. Though Chennai fell short, Khaleel’s fight and fire gave fans a reason to cheer.

What made the night more special was a heartfelt reunion after the match. Khaleel caught up with the family of Punjab Kings head coach Ricky Ponting his former mentor at Delhi Capitals. The pair spent three seasons together in Delhi, during which Khaleel picked 42 wickets from 33 matches under the leadership of Ponting. Although both shifted to new franchises following IPL 2024 Khaleel with CSK and Ponting leading PBKS they surely do maintain an unbreakable bond between themselves.

<![CDATA[IPL 2025: Bowler with most number of dot balls so far]]> https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-stats/ipl-2025-bowler-with-most-number-of-dot-balls-so-far/ https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-stats/ipl-2025-bowler-with-most-number-of-dot-balls-so-far/ Wed, 16 Apr 2025 13:56:45 GMT

In a tournament often dominated by power hitters and eye-catching strike rates, the real architects of pressure are often the bowlers who consistently bowl dot balls. These seemingly quiet deliveries that don’t fetch runs are turning into one of the most decisive factors in IPL 2025. A bowler who can tie down a batter and force them into taking risks is often the unsung hero behind a breakthrough.

Dot balls build pressure and tension not only on batters but also in the team's dugout. They frustrate batters, force errors, and can change the momentum of a game without the glamour of a wicket. This season, several bowlers have made it a habit to deny runs with unwavering discipline, turning dot balls into a powerful tactical weapon. From seamers swinging the new ball to spinners choking the middle overs, each has brought their style of control.

At the top of this elite list stands Khaleel Ahmed, who has bowled the most dot balls so far, 78 in 7 innings for the Chennai Super Kings. His consistency in the power play and ability to close out innings without leaking runs have made him a standout performer. Let’s dive deeper into the top 10 dot-ball masters of IPL 2025 and explore how each has impacted their team’s campaign so far.

IPL 2025 is coming with another exciting contest between Chennai Super Kings and Delhi Capitals both teams have a rich history of having good competition with each other. It can be clearly depicted with the head-to-head count where the last 30 matches of these teams have mostly been won by Chennai Super Kings who are leading the chart with 19 wins against the Capitals and D too not far behind they too have clinched 11 victories against the Kings.
Though Chennai leads the victory margin the current scenario is really against them and the game they are playing is really an outdated one type. Delhi's current form is just amazing with the available resources they clinching the way hard and finding new stars out of it. That's why they are second on the points table. Axar Patel the captain is leading the team in the best way possible. Whereas in Chennai it is looking completely contrast their batting seems the very first issue. Either they play too slow or they lose wickets early which puts them in a difficult position. It's going to be 4th game of CSK and they have to find the rhythm back until it's too late.

Some players can change the course of the match on their own somewhat some players can create a major effect and contribute to their team in the best way possible.

1. Mitchell Starc
The left-arm Australian pace bowler is just an ace card for Delhi Capitals who is been on the wicket tally every time the two games he has played have been really spot on. In the first match against Lucknow, he opened his account with three wickets. In the next game against Sunrises Hyderabad, he took fifer and became the Purple Cap holder raising the highest wicket-taker in the league. Though Starc may not be with the same pace in recent times he is still effective and can be a huge threat to Chennai Super Kings who are tracking a way to win the game.

Khaleel Ahmed, IPL 2025: Once badly reputed for inconsistency, Khaleel Ahmed, arguably at his career-best form, is taking wicket after wicket and chasing the purple cap in the IPL 2025. Khaleel Ahmed, now with 6 wickets in total with his name, took 2 wickets against Rajasthan Royals last night in the form of Yashasvi Jaiswal and Jofra Archer. With these couple of wickets, Ahmed is now in third place, just behind Delhi Capitals Mitchell Starc (8 wickets) and Chennai Super Kings' Noor Ahmed (9 wickets).

Khaleel Ahmed's current form begins after a fine performance in the Ranji Trophy, where he took wickets in a regular manner for team Rajasthan. In the last 5 matches, Khaleel has taken 17 wickets for his respective teams. He took 2 against Rajasthan Royals, 1 against Royal Challengers Bengaluru, and 3 against Mumbai Indians—6 IPL 2025 in total.

Before the beginning of the ongoing Indian Premier League, the pace bowler had a significant domestic season for Rajasthan. He claimed a total of 5 wickets against Andhra Pradesh and 6 against Vidarbha. So, in his last 5 matches, Ahmed added 17 wickets to his name. Silently but steadily, the 27-year-old left-arm pace bowler is rejuvenating his performance by adopting the pitch conditions and bowling according to the batsman. His ability to swing the ball has created a lot of attention nowadays.

According to ESPNcricinfo, Khaleel Ahmed has played 60 IPL matches so far to take 80 wickets. So far, his best IPL season was back in 2024, where he grabbed 17 wickets in 14 matches for the Delhi Capitals, with an economy rate of 9.58; in this season he has bowled with an economy rate a little below 8, which is his best economy rate so far in his IPL career. For CSK, Khaleel Ahmed is now not only taking wickets but also putting pressure on batsmen to play risky shots to rotate the strike rate, and then Ahmed strikes.
