Cricket has witnessed some of the craziest stats over the last so many years that have made the fans curious. Cricket has witnessed some cracking sixes and big sixes in cricketing history. In this piece, we discuss the five longest sixes that were hit in the history of cricket. It takes power, placement and timing to hit the ball out of the park, and this article covers the details of the longest sixes in terms of meters. We take a look at these sixes in detail:

1.Shahid Afridi (Pakistan vs South Africa-2013- 153 Meters)

Shahid Afridi 153 m six

'Boom Boom Afridi' as he was fondly called during his playing days, hit some powerful sixes that were mind-boggling. The former Pakistani all-rounder hit 476 sixes in his International career, but this particular six that he hit was the longest. In an ODI match against South Africa in Johannesburg, Afridi hit a six that travelled 153 meters. Ryan Maclaren was the bowler. The pacer got rid of Afridi in the previous ball, but it was a no-ball, and the charismatic batter took full advantage of the free hit.

2.Brett Lee (Australia vs West Indies- 2005- 143 Meters)

Brett Lee 143 M six

Brett Lee was a nightmare for the bowlers with his speed, pace and swing, but in this particular game against the West Indies at Brisbane's Gabba stadium, the former Australian pacer showcased his poaching abilities with the bat, smashing a big six that travelled 143 meters. Brett Lee was a handy batter lower down the order, and this particular hit highlighted his abilities as a pinch hitter.

3.Martin Guptill (New Zealand vs South Africa- 2012- 127 Meters)

Martin Guptill 127 m six

The former New Zealand opener was amongst the most aggressive white ball openers in New Zealand cricket. New Zealand were chasing 148 in a T20I game against South Africa at Wellington's Westpac Stadium. The right-hander scored 70 in 55 balls, helping the Kiwis chase the target by 6 wickets. He smashed left-arm pacer Lonwabo Tsotsobe for a huge six over mid mid-wicket area that travelled 127 meters. The six was well timed and effortlessly hit.

4.Liam Livinstone (England vs Pakistan - 2021- 122 Meters)

Liam Livingstone 122 m six

Undoubtedly amongst the most powerful strikers in modern-day cricket, Livingstone has cracked some big sixes in whit ball cricket. The 31-year-old hit a huge six against Pakistan in 2021 in the first T20I while playing at Trent Bridge. He scored 103 in 43 balls. Although England lost the game while chasing a target of 232, Livinstone's innings was a silver lining for the Three Lions. He hit a six that travelled 122 meters while facing pacer Haris Rauf, thus becoing the only English batter to hit the longest six..

5.Yuvraj Singh (India vs Australia- 2007- 119 Meters)

Yuvraj Sing 119 M six

The inaugural 2007 ICC T20I World Cup in South Africa would be remembered as Yuvraj Singh's World Cup, as he had smashed the former England pacer for six back-to-back sixes in an over. In the semifinal against Australia, while facing Brett Lee, the two-time World Cup winner flicked a six over square leg while facing Brett Lee. His knock of 70 in 30 balls helped India make it to the final and eventually win the T20 World Cup.

The cash-rich Indian Premier League (IPL) is never short of talent. Right from its inception in 2008, all the way to the current 2025 season, the high-octane league has seen the birth of ground-breaking cricketing talent. Whilst there may be no shortage of talent, there are a few unfortunate souls who, despite their prolific stature and hefty price tags, fail to live up to the standards.

In this season alone, we have seen a few flop performances from some of the very best in the business. In this article, we showcase the top five high-profile cricketers who failed to live up to expectations in IPL 2025.

Rishabh Pant (₹27 crore, Lucknow Super Giants)

Perhaps the most shocking disappointment of all was to see Rishab Pant from LSG falter big time this season. Last year, he was acquired by LSG for a whopping ₹27 crore, making him the most expensive purchase in the history of IPL. Many of his fans, including Sanjeeev Goenka, founder of LSG, had high hopes from him. But contrary to their assumptions, Pant failed to deliver big. As the most expensive player in IPL history, Pant's performance was underwhelming. Pant could only manage 106 runs in seven innings, with an awful average of 15.14 and a strike rate below 100, significantly below expectations.

Venkatesh Iyer (₹23.75 crore, Kolkata Knight Riders)

Just like Pant, Venkatesh Iyer from KKR also etched his name in the record books by becoming the second-most expensive player in the IPL mega-auction last year. But as fate would have it, Iyer succumbed to the burden of his heavy price tag. In six innings, Iyer managed only 135 runs with a solitary fifty. His highest score was 52* in the 2024 final, but this season, his performances have been inconsistent and disappointing. His score of 7 against DC on April 29th marked his fourth single-digit score, whereas against GT in a must-win fixture, Iyer could only score 14 (19), failing to hit a boundary and struggling to rotate the strike. His inconsistency and lack of impact were major disappointments for KKR this season as the tall all-rounder struggled to justify his hefty price tag.

Mohammed Shami (₹10 crore, Sunrisers Hyderabad)

The ace Indian speedster's performance has been another source of disappointment for the fans. Being acquired by SRH for a staggering ₹10 crore, Mohammed Shami's performance in IPL 2025 has significantly fallen short of expectations, causing concern among both fans and experts. As a member of Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), Shami's difficulties have been apparent throughout the season. Across nine matches, Shami could only muster six wickets under his tally, with an alarming economy rate of 11.23. His figures include a particularly dismal performance against Punjab Kings, where he conceded 75 runs in four overs—the most expensive bowling spell by an Indian in IPL history. Subsequently, he also went on to claim an unwanted record of having the second-highest bowling figures in IPL history.

Liam Livingstone (₹8.75 crore, Royal Challengers Bangalore)

England's Liam Livingstone serves as yet another example of how expensive buys can lead franchises to inevitable catastrophes. Although RCB has stormed into the playoffs in blazing fashion, Livingstone's paltry contribution both with the bat and the ball has caught the ire of many fans and cricketing pundits alike. Livingstone has managed only 87 runs in seven matches, averaging 17.40 with a strike rate of 127.94. His sole highlight was a half-century against the Gujarat Titans, but he failed to cross the 20-run mark in subsequent innings. Former Indian cricketer Manoj Tiwary cited Livingstone's poor shot selection and lack of game awareness as the key reasons for his poor show this season. He noted that Livingstone has faced more than 10 deliveries in an innings only once this season, highlighting his inability to build and anchor the innings progressively.

Glenn Maxwell (₹4.2 crore, Royal Challengers Bangalore)

Maxwell has been a serious contender across several IPL seasons in the past decade. But his performance in the ongoing IPL edition has been nothing short of disappointing. He has clearly had a season to forget, with only 48 runs in seven innings and four wickets at an economy rate of 8.46. His inability to contribute significantly with both bat and ball was a concern for RCB. Batting has surfaced as the primary source of concern for the Australian southpaw. He started his journey poorly this season by registering a golden duck against GT in the tournament opener, marking his 19th duck in the cash-rich league. And to further compound his woes, Maxwell suffered a fractured finger during training in early May, ruling him out for the remainder of the IPL 2025 season. This injury has ended a season that many had hoped would mark a resurgence for the 36-year-old all-rounder.

<![CDATA[Top 5 fastest fifty in ODI history]]> https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/top-5-fastest-fifty-in-odi-history/ https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/top-5-fastest-fifty-in-odi-history/ Fri, 23 May 2025 20:12:04 GMT

In the dynamic world of One Day Internationals (ODIs), speed is crucial when it comes to runs. The fastest fifties are among the most exciting achievements in the game. Reaching a fifty in record time is incredibly demoralizing for the opposition, and enthusiasm is contagious when the batting side is showing speed. Scoring the ball in national conditions requires courage and intent, impeccable timing, and, of course, complete confidence.

Throughout the years, there have been many players, and a select few have achieved incredible striking speeds, managing to grab a place in the history books by completing half-centuries in no time. These players certainly bring a new level of scratch to the way we play ODIs in the modern era. Here are the top six fastest fifties in ODI history; each time the batsman surprised the cricketing world with their powerful hitting.

AB de Villiers – 16 Balls vs West Indies, 2015

South African batter AB de Villiers is also the holder of the record for the fastest ODI fifty, scored in just 16 balls. What made this resulting innings so iconic was the fact it came against the West Indies in Johannesburg and the relentless pace of his innings. In some few short minutes he plundered 8 sixes and 4 fours, taking on the West Indies bowlers erratically.

De Villiers' pyrotechnics, along with trembling heart rates, made for a performance that we will remember for years to come. He managed to score 149 off 44 balls, with 31 of those balls being the fastest ODI hundred. It is not an understatement to say this is considered one of the greatest ever exhibitions of batting within the ODI format.

Matthew Forde—16 Balls vs Ireland, 2025

On May 23, 2025, West Indies all-rounder Matthew Forde shocked the cricketing world with a stunning 16-ball fifty against Ireland at Castle Avenue, Dublin. Coming in at number eight, Forde went on a rampage, scoring 58 off just 19 balls, which included two fours and eight sixes, all the while equaling AB de Villiers' record for the fastest ODI fifty. His late strike pushed West Indies to 352/8. Forde's explosive batting changed the game and showed his ability to transform it in a matter of minutes. This knock was his entry on the global stage, and he arrived in style.

Sanath Jayasuriya—17 Balls vs Pakistan, 1996

You would have to go as far back as Sri Lankan opener Sanath Jayasuriya to observe batting of that nature in quite possibly ODI cricket history. Jayasuriya was known for swinging hard and hitting for distance. During this innings against Pakistan, we saw 17 balls hammered for 5 fours and 3 sixes in Singapore. By any measure, the degree of aggressive batting in the early overs was unheard of in 1996, which is why Jayasuriya is known as a pioneer of this style of batting.

His power and sentiment helped dictate the future successful batting performances of Sri Lanka throughout the mid-90s era. Jayasuriya's innings and attitude at the top of this batting also helped shape the way ODIs were played in the future and changed batting. His style of aggressive batting has shaped how younger generations have also played.

Kusal Perera – 17 Balls vs Bangladesh, 2014

Kusal Perera, another dynamic left-handed Sri Lankan batsman, achieved a record of his own by equalling Jayasuriya's feat of also scoring a fifty in 17 balls vs. Bangladesh. Opening the innings, Kusal operated from his first ball and put pressure on the bowlers. Kusal struck 9 fours and 1 six in explosive innings. This inning further confirmed his dominance early in the innings and set up the Sri Lankans in what was a big win that day.

He has often received comparisons in the past two due to each of their fearless approaches to the game. Kusal has also continued his dominance early in the innings for Sri Lankan cricket, where he continues to be a big player for the limited-overs format.

Liam Livingstone—17 Balls v Netherlands, 2022

England's Liam Livingstone joined this elite group by scoring a fifty in 17 balls against the Netherlands in 2022, hitting the ball with power and confidence all around the wicket, indulging in all forms of explosive power-hitting. Livingstone's innings included 6 sixes to show an incredible amount of strength and timing, as the wickets made no difference.

His innings allowed England to reach a world record ODI score of 498 runs. Unsurprisingly, Livingstone is known for his fearless approach to the game and personifies the more dynamic and aggressive format that England has moved towards in recent years. I thought his fast fifty was a great example of the aggressive attitude modern-day cricket demands.

The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 will get underway on May 17, but it's not plain sailing for all franchises. Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), who are second on the points table, have been hit hard by the release of England's ODI and T20I squads for the West Indies tour. The bilateral series is in direct conflict with the last stage of the IPL season, including playoffs.

RCB will lose two of their most important overseas players, Phil Salt and Liam Livingstone, to international duty. Both are members of England's white-ball teams, and their loss is at a time when RCB is seeking to build momentum into the knockout stages. The team has only three games left before the playoffs, so every player at their disposal is important to their cause.

Phil Salt has been an asset at the top of the order, offering fast starts and assisting in setting the tone in the powerplay. Liam Livingstone, whose explosive middle-order batting and useful spin bowling have been a major asset, is another player who has now gone. Their loss now compels RCB to think about reserve options and reassess their game plan under pressure.

England Squad for West Indies Tour Raises IPL Alarm

ODI Squad: Brook (C), Root, Archer, Atkinson, Banton, Bethell, Buttler, Carse, Duckett, Hartley, Jacks, Mahmood, Potts, Overton, Rashid, and Smith.
T20I Squad: Brook (C), Rehan, Banton, Bethell, Buttler, Carse, Dawson, Duckett, Jacks, Mahmood, Potts, Overton, Rashid, Salt, and Luke Wood.

The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has indicated clearly that national commitments are more important than IPL commitments. With other franchises losing England players as well, the balance of the tournament could be significantly altered. For RCB, this is a test of bench strength and flexibility. Losing Salt and Livingstone at this point could either throw their campaign off track or result in a fierce comeback with new domestic talent emerging.

Former Indian opener Virender Sehwag has come down heavily on overseas stars Glenn Maxwell and Liam Livingstone for their underwhelming performances in IPL 2025. Former Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag lashed out at the overseas players Glenn Maxwell and Liam Livingstone for their poor show in the ongoing edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025.

In the 18th edition of the tournament, Maxwell has been representing Punjab Kings (PBKS). While, Livingstone has been playing for the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). During the 37th match of the IPL 2025 between PBKS and RCB, both overseas players were missing from their respective franchises' playing eleven.

They Arrive, Have Their Fun, And Leave: Virender Sehwag

While speaking on Cricbuzz, Virender Sehwag slammed the two overseas players and said that they come to India for a holiday and not to play cricket. He made a big statement, saying that players like Maxwell and Livingstone come to India and leave after having fun. He added that there no visible desire to fight from the two players.

“I feel like Maxwell and Livingstone’s hunger is gone. Yeh yaha holiday manane aate hai (they just come here for a holiday). They arrive, have their fun, and leave. There's no visible desire to fight for the team,” Sehwag said while speaking on Cricbuzz.

“I’ve spent time with a lot of former players, but only 1 or 2 really gave me the feeling that, ‘Yes, I genuinely want to do something for the team',” he added.

During the match between RCB and PBKS, the Bengaluru based franchise clinched a seven-wicket triumph over PBKS on Sunday, April 20th. Following the win, RCB hold this place on IPL 2025 standings with 10 points and have a net run rate of +0.472. Meanwhile, Punjab Kings stand in the fourth position with 10 points and have a net run rate of +0.177.

<![CDATA[IPL 2025: Why is Liam Livingstone not playing in PBKS vs RCB clash?]]> https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/ipl-2025-why-is-liam-livingstone-not-playing-in-pbks-vs-rcb-clash/ https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/ipl-2025-why-is-liam-livingstone-not-playing-in-pbks-vs-rcb-clash/ Sun, 20 Apr 2025 15:48:54 GMT

In an important game against Punjab Kings, Royal Challengers Bengaluru decided to drop England all-rounder Liam Livingstone. RCB captain Rajat Patidar confirmed this at the toss. Many fans were surprised, but there were some clear reasons behind this move.

Livingstone was bought for ₹8.75 crore in the IPL 2025 auction. He is known for hitting big sixes and bowling useful spin. But in this season, he has not played well. In 6 innings, he scored only 87 runs, with an average of 17.40 and a strike rate of 127.94. His best score was 54. He also hit only 4 fours and 7 sixes, much less than expected.

Livingstone didn’t help much with the ball either. RCB already has two main spinners in Krunal Pandya and Suyash Sharma, so his bowling wasn’t needed much. Since he didn’t perform well with the bat and wasn’t used much with the ball, the team decided to make a change. RCB needed more from him in the middle overs, but he often got out while trying to hit big shots. This made things harder for the rest of the batting line-up.

Poor Form with Bat and Ball, Romario Shepherd Comes In

In his place, RCB brought in West Indies all-rounder Romario Shepherd. He was bought for ₹1.5 crore. Shepherd is a fast bowler and also hits big shots in the lower order. Since the match is being played in the afternoon in Mullanpur, where dew won’t be a big problem, RCB decided to go with pace instead of spin. At the toss, Patidar said, “We're going to bowl first. Wicket looks decent, won't change much. Shepherd comes in for Livi.”

Livingstone has played well in past IPL seasons. In 2022, he scored 437 runs at a strike rate of 182. But this year, his form has dropped. In T20 cricket, form is very important, and right now, Livingstone is struggling. This decision shows that RCB is ready to take bold steps. They want players who are in form and can help them win games. Livingstone may return later in the season, but for now, RCB is hoping that Romario Shepherd can give them the edge.

After scoring a quickfire 15 not out to end the season opener match against KKR quickly, Livingstone scored 10 runs and picked up two wickets (2/28) in the next game against CSK. Meanwhile, in their last match, Livingstone scored a valuable half-century (54) when his team was struggling.

<![CDATA[Top 5 Reasons why India lost the 3rd T20 against England]]> https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/top-5-reasons-why-india-lost-the-3rd-t20-against-england/ https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/top-5-reasons-why-india-lost-the-3rd-t20-against-england/ Wed, 29 Jan 2025 16:46:13 GMT

Its been really a poor show by India in 3rd T20 which held in Rajkot. India Played brilliantly in their first 2 T20s, but the third one was quite mixed one. India won the toss and elected to bowl first. India bowled brilliantly till their 16 over then Livingston took the charge and gave a comfortable score of 179. In reply Indian openers crumbled at the start though good batting by Hardik Pandaya still India couldn't chase the target and lost by 26 runs.

Top Reasons For India's Loss

India lost the match due to their slow approch in the second innings of the game where they lacked in chase despite being in the game till 15th over.

England Good Batting At The End

India displayed a good bowling show where they removed Philp Salt in the second over itself. But Duckett went on going, though England lost wickets in regular intervals. Duckett went on to score a brilliant fifty. But after that every player crumbled. It was at the end where Liam Livingston came for rescue scoring 43 of 24 balls. England took charge after 16th over, where they put on to make a good score of 171.

Poor Bowling Display By India

Mohammad Shami was back after a long interval of injury break. Indian bowlers displayed a good show till 15th over but after that they strugged to find their line and length, they started to leak runs at the end which led England to put up a good score of 171.

India Poor Performance With Bat

India went on to chase the target of 171 but it seemed they have lack in approch. Where India lost Sanju early who tried to apply pull shot but didn't get connected. The pace of the ball deceived him. Every batsman tried to imply the shot on the slowy pitch and got out cheaply. Hardik tried his best to get the command but couldn't hold on. Captain Surya poor form, Tilak getting out on spin which get back in to the stumps. Till 15th over India had the hope of chase but lack of intent at the later stages costed the match for India.

Poor Intent

It was clearly visible that India were in lack of intent throught the game. At first innings they were unable to bowled out England despite having a good start. In the second innings same thing happened where started the innings poorly and later on they builded up but the intent was too conjusty, As everyone was trying to hit hard rather than understanding the nature of pitch.

Misunderstanding The Aggressive Approach

Its ok to show the aggressive approach in a t20 game it is meant for it. But sometime you have to understand the nature of the game and how the game progress. At first innings India took out early six wickets but after that they didn't went for the kill allowed England to score a decent total. In the second innings batsman were trying to hit the ball hard rather than understanding what the pitch is offering. England bowlers were consistent with their hard length deleviries making hard for the Indian batting. Which was later pointed out by the captain Surya Kumar Yadav.

Visitors England made a comeback in the T20I series against the hosts India after clinching a handsome 26-run win in the Rajkot T20I on Tuesday (January 28).

Leading the T20I series by 2-0, the Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav won the toss once again and chose to field in the third of the five-match T20I series at Rajkot. It was the much-awaited comeback match for the Indian fast bowler Mohammed Shami, who missed out on international cricket for more than 14 months. While England scored 171/9 in 20 overs, India replied with 145/9 in 20 overs.

England innings: Ben Duckett powered before Varun Chakravarthy's magic

Although the opener Phil Salt once again lost his wicket early at five runs, his opening partner Ben Duckett set up a strong start with the in-form skipper Jos Buttler. Duckett was dominating the Indian bowlers from the powerplay and set up England’s first 50-run partnership in this T20I series as he had a 76-run partnership for the second wicket with Buttler.

Once England were batting at 83/1, but the Indian skipper Suryakumar Yadav handled the spinners really well as the English batting line-up once again faced deep trouble. From 83/1, England were suddenly down to 127/8.

While the skipper Buttler scored 24 off 22 balls, the opener Duckett scored 51 off 28 balls with seven fours and two sixes.

Leg-spinner Varun Chakravarthy claimed a fifer as he had bowling figures of 4-0-24-5. Meanwhile, Hardik Pandya picked up two wickets (2/33), while Axar Patel (1/19) and Ravi Bishnoi (1/46) got one wicket each.

Liam Livingstone added vital runs

While the other English middle and lower-order batters struggled, Liam Livingstone added some vital runs of 43 off 24 balls with the help of one four and five sixes. Also, Adil Rashid (10*) and Mark Wood’s (10*) additions proved crucial for the visitors.

Indian innings: No strong batting performance; England bowlers were disciplined powered by Adil Rashid

In reply, England were taking wickets at regular intervals, while the English skipper Jos Buttler handled the bowlers really well. Opener Abhishek Sharma got a strong start but was caught out for 24 off 14 balls as Jofra Archer took a great catch. Captain Suryakumar Yadav (14) is far away from his form, while Tilak Varma was finally dismissed by brilliant Adil Rashid for 18 runs.

Apart from Abhishek, only Hardik Pandya scored 20+ runs in that innings, but he didn’t get any support who could help him by at least rotating the strike. Pandya scored 40 off 35 balls with one four and two sixes but it was far from enough.

Adil Rashid was exceptional once again with the bowling figures of 4-0-15-1, while Jamie Overton took three wickets (3/24). Also, Brydon Carse (2/28) and Jofra Archer (2/33) picked up two wickets and Mark Wood got a wicket (1/29).

With the 26-run win, England are trailing the five-match T20I series by 2-1 with two to go.

While the Indian bowlers completely dominated in the Kolkata T20I over the English batters, it is a new tense sign for the IPL team Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s (RCB) fans as three of their English batters completely failed in the first innings of the match.

Although the English captain Jos Buttler provided a good start, the other English batters had no answer for the Indian bowlers. English cricketers Phil Salt, Liam Livingstone, and Jacob Bethell are RCBians, and all of them had hard luck on Wednesday night.

Phil Salt scored a duck

Opener Salt couldn’t open the scoreline as Arshdeep Singh delivered a short ball and an extra bounce resulted in Salt’s dismissal after the wicketkeeper Sanju Samson comfortably took the catch. It was just the third ball of the match while England were 0/1.

Liam Livingstone also scored a duck; Jacob Bethell struggled

Liam Livingstone scored a two-ball duck as the in-form spinner Varun Chakravarthy bowled him. The new RCBian Jacob Bethell failed to help the visitors from the tough situation and his clueless batting disturbed the English skipper’s fighting flow. It was Hardik Pandya who dismissed Bethell for seven off 14 balls.

England were all out for 132 runs in 20 overs

Indian bowlers dominated in England innings as England were all out for 132 runs in 20 overs. While the skipper Buttler scored fighting 68 off 44 balls with the help of eight fours and two sixes, Harry Brook (17) and Jofra Archer (12) were the only other English batters with double-digit scores in that innings.

Among the Indian bowlers, Varun Chakravarthy got three wickets (3/23), while Arshdeep Singh (2/17), Axar Patel (2/22), and Hardik Pandya (2/42) bagged two wickets each.

Later, Abhishek Sharma's dominant batting, as he scored 79 off 34 balls, guided India to reach the target in 12.5 overs after losing three wickets.
