Amidst the ongoing Bangladesh Premier League, Bangladesh T20 captain Litton Das was asked about how his country has been preparing for the upcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup (to take place in 2026), and answered in a very frank manner that left many at the press conference with more questions than answers. Litton said that although he is the captain of the team, he also does not know if they will go to India for the T20 World Cup in 2026, illustrating the lack of definite plans for the country.

Litton further added that the BPL conditions are not good enough for preparing for a tournament like the T20 World Cup, and pointed out that the conditions of the pitches are different from what will be experienced at the World Cup which will feature a total of twenty teams and start on February 7, 2026, in India and Sri Lanka.

"Are you sure we are going to play in the World Cup? In fact, there is still a long time to go before the World Cup, and we are not even certain whether we will go at all. This is by no means an ideal wicket for T20 cricket. We had expected a much better wicket for a qualifier match,” Litton told as quoted saying on The Daily Star.

Bangladesh government imposed a ban on the broadcast of the IPL

Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) and International Cricket Council (ICC) have held ongoing negotiations about relocating the T20 World Cup matches to another location other than India due to the increase in tensions across borders between the two countries, which has created doubt about Bangladesh’s ability to participate in the event. Despite attempts made by the ICC to persuade the BCB to maintain plans for an Indian location to play, thus far, BCB has remained steadfast not to change its decision for moving the matches.

As per the current schedule, Bangladesh is scheduled to play three of their four league games in Kolkata, India, and play the last game at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, India. After receiving confirmation from BCCI that they had prevented Mustafizur Rahman from playing in IPL based on the new developments concerning bilateral relationships between their countries, BCB asked that they revise the itinerary of the matches to be moved out of India.

In response, the Bangladesh government imposed a ban on the broadcast of the IPL within the country and reiterated its position against touring India for the global tournament. These moves further escalated the standoff, placing the ICC in a challenging position as it tries to find a workable solution. A final decision on Bangladesh’s participation and venue arrangements for the T20 World Cup is expected on Wednesday, January 21, leaving barely two weeks before the tournament gets underway.

Bangladesh pacer, Taskin Ahmed, has returned to the shortest format after being named in the 15-member squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2026 in India and Sri Lanka from February 07 to March 08. The right-arm fast bowler had missed the recent home series against Ireland as he was featuring for the Sharjah Warriors in the 2025/26 season of the International League T20 (ILT20).

The top-order wicket-keeper batter, Litton Das, will lead the side with Saif Hasan being appointed as his deputy. On the other hand, Jaker Ali and Mahidul Islam have failed to retain their places in the side, while Najmul Hossain Shanto also missed out, which has been a somewhat surprising decision.

Banglesh will lock horns with the debutants Italy at the same venue in Kolkata on February 09, while on February 14, they take on England in Kolkata. Three days later, they fly to the iconic Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai for the final group-stage clash against Nepal.

The build-up to the event hasn’t been smooth with the development that prompted the BCCI to ban the Bangladesh left-arm pacer, Mustafizur Rahman, from the IPL, with the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) confirming the news. The BCB, however, seeks clarity from both ICC and BCCI.

They are also going to write to the ICC over the security arrangements for players, fans, and media during the competition. They want their games to be shifted to Sri Lanka, citing the concern over the players’ safety.

Bangladesh have their T20I captain back, with Litton Das returning to the squad for the first two T20Is against the West Indies in Chattogram next week. Das had missed Bangladesh’s last five T20Is due to a side strain suffered during the Asia Cup last month.

The 30-year-old skipper missed two Asia Cup matches as well as Bangladesh’s 3-0 series win over Afghanistan in Sharjah, where Jaker Ali led the team. His return comes at the expense of Mohammad Saifuddin, who impressed with the ball in the third T20I against Afghanistan, taking three wickets for 15 runs in three overs.

Selectors have also left out Soumya Sarkar, who was part of the squad against Afghanistan but could not play due to visa issues. He is replaced by Parvez Hossain Emon, despite Emon scoring an 86-ball 91 in the third ODI against the West Indies in Dhaka.

Bangladesh Maintain Core Squad with Key Players in Top and Middle Order

The core of the squad that recently defeated Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Netherlands, and Afghanistan remains intact. Litton Das will lead the top order alongside Saif Hassan, Parvez Hossain Emon, and Tanzid Hasan. The middle order will feature Towhid Hridoy, Jaker Ali, Shamim Hossain, and Nurul Hasan.

Bangladesh’s spin attack will include Rishad Hossain, Nasum Ahmed, and Mahedi Hasan, while the pace department comprises Mustafizur Rahman, Tanzim Hasan Sakib, Taskin Ahmed, and Shoriful Islam. The three T20Is will be played in Chattogram on October 27, 29, and 31. Bangladesh will aim to maintain their strong momentum in the ongoing white-ball season, following their recent 2-1 ODI series win over the West Indies, which included one game decided in a Super Over.

Litton Das (capt & wk), Tanzid Hasan, Parvez Hossain Emon, Saif Hassan, Towhid Hridoy, Jaker Ali, Shamim Hossain, Nurul Hasan (wk), Mahedi Hasan, Rishad Hossain, Nasum Ahmed, Mustafizur Rahman, Tanzim Hasan Sakib, Taskin Ahmed, Shoriful Islam.

The Pakistan vs Bangladesh Super Fours match in the Asia Cup 2025 at Dubai on Thursday (September 25) is a do-or-die match for both teams, as the winner of the match will advance to the Final of the tournament and will face India on Sunday (September 28). Bangladesh captain Litton Das is missing once again in this important match, and here we are talking about the reason for his absence.

Litton Das injured in practice session

Bangladesh skipper Litton Das missed the previous night's game against India. Last Tuesday (September 23), during the practice session, Litton was injured as he got a blow to his left rib. He needed some medical treatment, and then he watched the training session, but didn't come to bat that night.

The side-strain issue has forced Litton to miss another crucial Super Fours match for Bangladesh in the Asia Cup 2025, as he is missing the match against Pakistan, which is a must-win fixture for both teams. He was eyeing a return in this game, but sadly failed the fitness test. In his absence, Jaker Ali has continued his leadership role, just like the last night against India. While Bangladesh made four changes against India, including the forced injury replacement of Litton, the Tigers have made three changes in their playing XI for the match against Pakistan. Mahedi Hasan, Taskin Ahmed, and Nurul Hasan have been included in the match against Pakistan.

Once again, Bangladesh will miss the calm, composed leadership and batting of Litton Das. However, the Tigers have a great chance to prove the depth of the team, as a victory will guide them to the Final of the tournament. Before the ongoing T20 Asia Cup, Bangladesh won the T20I series against the hosts Sri Lanka and Pakistan at home.

Asia Cup 2025: Bangladesh fought well

In the group stage of the Asia Cup 2025, Bangladesh beat Afghanistan and Hong Kong but lost against Sri Lanka and finished as the runners-up in Group B. In the Super Fours, Bangladesh first defeated Sri Lanka by four wickets with one ball remaining, but then they lost against unbeaten India by 41 runs last night. As Bangladesh and Pakistan both have two points in the Super Fours, the winner of the match will advance to the Final with four points.

Pakistan and Bangladesh clash in a do-or-die Super Four fixture of Asia Cup 2025 at Dubai. Both teams have been inconsistent to this point and must secure victory here to guarantee their spot in the final. Pakistan kicked off their Super Four campaign with yet another disappointing defeat to India. They recovered with a solid victory over Sri Lanka and now need to beat Bangladesh to book their place in the final.

On the other hand, Bangladesh have appeared disciplined and organized throughout this Asia Cup campaign. They reached the Super Fours by winning two from three matches, and then maintained that form by defeating Sri Lanka by four wickets in their first game of the second phase.

In the crucial India vs Bangladesh Super Fours match in the Asia Cup 2025 on Wednesday (September 24) night, Bangladesh stand-in captain Jaker Ali won the toss and chose to bowl first, as their skipper Litton Das is not playing.

As both India and Bangladesh won their first match in Super Fours, another victory will put them much ahead. While India will directly qualify for the Final with a win against Bangladesh, Bangladesh will move to the top spot in the Super Fours points table with a victory against India, but they still have to wait to secure their place for the tournament Final.

Litton Das missing the match due to injury

Bangladesh captain Litton Das is missing from the crucial game against India. Last Tuesday (September 23), during the practice session, Litton Das got a blow to his left rib. He was down on the ground as the Bangladesh medical team quickly attended to him. He watched the complete practice from the sideline but didn't return to bat.

At the toss before the match against India, Bangladesh's stand-in captain Jaker Ali confirmed that Litton Das is missing the match due to his injury. Apart from him, Taskin Ahmed, Shoriful Islam, and Mahedi Hasan are missing this fixture. As the replacement, Parvez Hossain Emon, Rishad Hossain, Mohammad Saifuddin, and Tanzim Hasan Sakib have been included in the playing XI.

Also, another important fact for the match is that Bangladesh will face Pakistan the next day, Thursday (September 25), which will be the last Super Fours fixture for both teams, and the victory can be must for both teams.

India will clash with Bangladesh in the fourth Super Fours fixture of the Asia Cup 2025 on Wednesday, September 24, at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. Both teams opened their Super Four campaigns with victories, setting up an exciting contest. India currently leads the points table after a six-wicket win over Pakistan, powered by Abhishek Sharma’s blistering innings. Under Suryakumar Yadav’s captaincy, the Men in Blue have remained unbeaten so far, winning all four of their matches and looking determined to secure their spot in the tournament final.

Bangladesh, meanwhile, began their Super Four journey with a confidence-boosting win over Sri Lanka. The Bangla Tigers will now aim to build on that momentum by upsetting India, which would significantly strengthen their chances of reaching the final. A win against the in-form Indian side would not only boost their morale but also provide them with a direct pathway to the title clash, scheduled at the same venue later in the week.

India enter their Super 4 clash with Bangladesh as overwhelming favourites  their recent T20I record against Bangladesh is near-faultless, with 16 wins out of 17 matches. Statistically, there’s a huge gulf. India’s batters have been in red-hot form this tournament, and their spin attack remains one of the sharpest. Meanwhile, Bangladesh have shown signs of resurgence in Asia Cup 2025: they beat Sri Lanka in their Super Four opener, and their bowlers, particularly spinners, have been more disciplined. Though India dominate the head-to-head, Bangladesh’s confidence is visibly up. But confidence alone won’t be enough without execution under pressure.

Bangladesh’s strength lies largely in their bowling variety and tactical adaptability. They boast a spin-friendly arsenal ideal for UAE-style pitches: left-arm spin, wrist spin, and death-over cutters that can exploit slower decks. Key bowlers like Nasum Ahmed and Mustafizur Rahman make them dangerous in both the early and late phases. On the batting front, they have reliable top and middle-order players like Litton Das and some explosive performances in recent matches. If their bowlers strike early, especially in India’s powerplay, Bangladesh possibly can choke runs, build pressure, and produce an upset.

Can Bangladesh Bite Back?

There are obvious flaws that Bangladesh must remedy before they can seriously challenge India as an opponent. Their powerplay bowling has been expensive in recent matches allowing the opposition strong starts. Their lower-middle order (positions 5-8) continues to underperform, either unable to accelerate the innings when required or steady the innings after early wickets have fallen. Against India, this gets amplified as India’s top order is ruthless. Every error made by Bangladesh, be it missed wickets, loose deliveries, or poor fielding, will be exacerbated because India is extremely proficient when batting. In fact, to test India, Bangladesh will need to put out their A-game simultaneously in all departments.

In comparison, India’s experience, depth, and mental strength makes the them the clear favorites. Suryakumar Yadav and Abhishek Sharma are both in superb form and India’s spin attack, Kuldeep, Varun Chakravarthy, Axar, will relish these conditions. Conversely, Bangladesh will have to contend with sub-optimal leadership without being at full strength, and reports indicate Litton Das is injured, which may throw plans into disarray. Further, India’s recent dominance over Bangladesh including a comprehensive win in the last match adds to the psychological pressure. Ultimately, Bangladesh has to believe - and start with a disciplined, brave performance.

While there is no doubt that Bangladesh can play near-perfect cricket, surprises can always happen. Their bowling attack has a good enough arsenal to make early inroads and their recent win over Sri Lanka shows that they can handle some pressure. But for now, India are very heavy favourites. Unless Bangladesh can fix their batting depth and tighten up their powerplay containment, they may remain dark horses by name only. This match will show how much Bangladesh have progressed and if they can legitimately challenge India at this Asia Cup.

Bangladesh have a good chance to prove themselves among the best of the teams in the ongoing Asia Cup 2025, while they will play an important Super Fours match against India on Wednesday (September 24) at Dubai. However, the Tigers have suffered a big blow on the eve of their match against the unbeaten side in the tournament, India.

On Tuesday (September 23), during the practice session, Bangladesh captain Litton Das was injured as he got a blow to his left rib. He was on the ground while the medical team had to assist him as the BCB doctor and team physio checked him. Later, he was on the ground and watched the practice session, but didn't return to bat.

We will have a look at Litton Das today

While the Bangladesh captain seemed okay from the outside, the team management will take the final call after conducting a thorough medical assessment.

A BCB official told Cricbuzz, "We will have a look at him (Litton) today because from outside he looks quite okay, but we need to conduct a medical assessment before making a final call."

Bangladesh captain Litton Das is in good form with the bat. He has scored 119 runs in four games in the Asia Cup 2025, including one half-century.

Bangladesh need to win at least one more Super Fours game

Bangladesh haven't any official vice-captain for the Asia Cup 2025. So, it will be interesting to see who can lead the Bangladesh team if Litton Das misses the game against India. In fact, Bangladesh have back-to-back Super Fours matches against India and Pakistan on Wednesday and Thursday, where they need to win at least one game and maintain the net run rate in a better position.

After finishing as the Group B runners-up in the group stage of the tournament, Bangladesh beat Sri Lanka in their first Super Fours match by four wickets with one ball remaining, as they successfully chased the 169-run target at Dubai.

Sri Lanka finished at the top of the Group B point table with 3 wins, and they have not lost a single game. Their net run rate stood at +1.278. Sri Lanka had a strong showing in the group stage, and they will be motivated to carry this momentum into the Super Four as well.

Bangladesh finished second in the Group B point table with two wins and a loss. Their single loss came against Sri Lanka, and that will be a point of discussion for the team before the match. Their net run rate stood at -0.270. They won their last group stage match against Afghanistan.
