After the last-hout handshake drama at the end of the Manchester Test, English Test captain Ben Stokes spoke about the incident and gave the reason why he was frustrated in that incident. 

Trailing the five-match Test series by 2-1, the visitors India were in deep trouble in the fourth Test at Old Trafford in Manchester when they were 0/2 in the first over of their second innings and trailing by 311 runs. However, the opener KL Rahul, captain Shubman Gill, and the middle-order batters Washington Sundar and Ravindra Jadeja bravely rescued the visitors, as they are still alive in the Test series with a maximum chance of a draw in the series in their favour. While Rahul scored 90 runs, Gill (103), Sundar (101*), and Jadeja (107*) hit centuries in that innings.

However, the last half-hour of the Manchester Test had drama. While the on-field umpires officially called the last hour of the Test match, which meant 15 overs remaining of the Test match, English captain Ben Stokes went for the handshakes as there was a dead-end result of a draw. However, the Indian batters Jadeja and Sundar were both approaching their deserving centuries with 89 not out and 80 not out, respectively. While Jadeja was looking for his fifth Test century, it was Sundar's dream for his maiden Test century. As the Indian batters expectedly refused to end the game before their respective hundreds, the English team, including their skipper, were completely unhappy. Even after the match, he seemed very frustrated and didn't shake hands with both the Indian cricketers.

Stokes' gestures in that situation have been criticised by some experts, as they have felt that the English should respect the opponent's decision. In the presentation ceremony, while the English captain won the Player of the Match award for his brilliant all-round performances, he clarified the reason for his frustration by pointing out his bowlers' unnecessary overload. 

Stokes said, "All the hardwork was done by India and there was only one result ... I wasn't going to risk any of my bowlers ... Dawsey had bowled a lot of overs and his body was tiring ... I wasn't going to risk any of my front line bowlers."

Meanwhile, the Indian Test captain Shubman Gill feels that both the Indian batters deserved their respective centuries.  

Gill said in the presentation ceremony, "It was up to the boys. I thought they both batted brilliantly, both were in their 90s. We thought they deserved a century there."

Ravindra Jadeja showed his class once again in the final Test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy at Manchester. On the last day of the match, he scored a brilliant century his fifth in Test cricket and helped India avoid defeat. He got solid support from Washington Sundar, who also hit his first-ever Test hundred.

Jadeja played a calm and steady innings, hitting 12 fours and one six in 182 balls. It was a special knock from the Saurashtra all-rounder, who had earlier come close to winning the Lord’s Test for India but fell just short by 22 runs.

Both Jadeja and Sundar showed great fight and focus. They batted through a tiring England bowling attack and gave India a chance to save the match. By the tea break, India were 322 for 4 after adding 99 runs without losing a wicket in the second session.

England’s Ben Stokes, who was dangerous in the morning, lost his rhythm later. In one over, he gave away 15 runs as Sundar hit him for a four and a six to reach his fifty. Soon after, Jadeja also completed his half-century with a classy cut shot. The duo’s strong stand made sure India walked away with a draw.

Despite being under massive pressure, India fought back bravely in their second innings of the Manchester Test and scored another 300+ total in the series. With their latest 300+ total, India set their new Test series record, which is very rare in Test cricket, first time since 1993. 

Visitors India started the fourth Test (Old Trafford in Manchester) of the five-match Test series (Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2025) against the hosts England by trailing 2-1, and they were struggling at the end of the first innings battles, as the visitors were trailing by 311 runs before their second innings of the Test match. The situation became tougher for the visitors after falling on 0/2 in the first over of their second innings. 

While India's series-saving dream seemed over, opener KL Rahul, captain Shubman Gill, and middle-order batters Washington Sundar and Ravindra Jadeja provided a strong fightback to save the Test match. While Rahul scored 90 runs, skipper Gill (103) scored his fourth century in the series, and both Sundar and Jadeja were batting 50+ runs at tea on the fifth day of the Test match. 

Before the tea break of the fifth day of the Manchester Test, India got the lead as they were batting on 322/4. While it was their seventh 300+ total in the Test series, it was the first time for India to score more than six 300+ totals in a bilateral Test series.

Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2025: India's totals in the series

It was the first time since 1993 that a team scored 300+ totals at least seven times in a bilateral Test series. In the history of Test cricket, while India's latest achievement was the third time that a visiting team scored 300+ totals at least seven times in a bilateral Test series, it was the seventh time that any team scored at least seven 300+ totals in a bilateral Test series.

In the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2025 in England, the visitors India have shown a lot of courage. Despite the new-looking Indian batting order, especially the top-order batting, India created history in England by scoring 3000+ runs in the Test series.  

Although the visitors India are trailing the five-match Test series by 2-1 before the fourth Test at Old Trafford in Manchester, where they are under pressure despite a strong battle till tea on the fifth day, the Indian cricket team has shown a never-give-up attitude in almost every situation.  

They are yet to play the last Test of the series, which will be played at The Oval in London from July 31. Even before the last Test of the exciting series, India created history in their Test cricket record book. By crossing 3000 runs in the Test series during their second innings of the Manchester Test, India first time recorded 3000 runs in a bilateral Test series outside home. Meanwhile, it was the fifth time that India scored 3000+ runs in a bilateral Test series. 

India's previous highest total series runs in an away bilateral Test series was 2942 runs during India's tour of West Indies in the 1952-53 season, where they played a five-match Test series.

It was the 25th time that a visiting team scored 3000+ runs in a bilateral Test series. Meanwhile, it was the 60th time that a team scored 3000+ runs in a bilateral Test series.

Most of the Indian batters have shown their outstanding abilities in the ongoing England tour. While it is the first Test series for Shubman Gill as an Indian captain, he is far ahead in the list of most runs in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2025, where all three top names are Indians. Skipper Gill has scored 722 runs in eight innings with four centuries, including one double century, while KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant are the second and third most run-scorers in this Test series with 511 and 479 runs, respectively, while both have recorded two centuries along with multiple more 50+ scores. Also, Ravindra Jadeja has scored 400+ runs in this Test series with five 50+ scores, including four consecutive half-centuries. 

After three low scores, Indian Test captain Shubman Gill once again produced a big knock with his bat in the ongoing England tour, as his fighting century brought India back in the Manchester Test.

India were more under pressure in their second innings of the Manchester Test by losing their first two wickets without opening the scoreboard. Opener KL Rahul and the skipper Shubman Gill finally came to rescue the visitors and set up a strong 188-run partnership for the third wicket. While Rahul was dismissed for 90 runs, captain Shubman Gill hit his fourth century in the ongoing Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2025. After completing his century in 228 balls, Gill scored 103 runs (12 fours) and lost his wicket just before the lunch break on the fifth day of the Test match.

India finished the fourth day of the fourth Test of the five-match series between England and India at Old Trafford in Manchester with 174/2. Shubman Gill remained unbeaten on 78 runs, thanks to 10 boundaries, while KL Rahul stayed on 87 runs undefeated after they were reduced to 0/2 in the opening over at the end of the first session.

The visitors still have 137 runs to wipe out the deficit, and once they do that with nearly six wickets in hand, the pressure will shift on the home side. The forecast says a bit of rain and murky weather in the morning session of the fifth day in Manchester, which means it’s all about one session for the two overnight batters.

The issue for England is their tired bowlers. They have 17 overs before the second new ball. This means their premier pacers will have one, two, or three overs of short bursts at the start and come back for the second new ball. That will be crucial for the Indian team. If Rahul and Gill can see off the second new cherry, then batting will be easy.

ENG vs IND 2025: Predicted match result for 4th Test at Old Trafford in Manchester

Chris Woakes, Brydon Carse, and Ben Stokes have already played four successive Tests in the series. The home captain didn’t bowl at all in the evening and afternoon sessions of the fourth day with a sore hamstring. Their batting coach, Marcus Trescothick, revealed that they would remain hopeful of the all-rounder coming out with the ball.

Jofra Archer has played two back-to-back Test matches, and if this game ends in a draw, then there will be questions on whether they could make him play the fifth encounter at the Kennington Oval in South London. He has bowled 11 overs in the second innings, along with his 26.1 overs in the first, and looked a bit stiff on the fourth day at certain points.

If the Three Lions can somehow break the partnership and pick another wicket before the second new ball, then they will smell victory. Liam Dawson will have a huge role to play from the Brian Statham end, pitching the ball on the rough side. England’s Joe Root was at his brilliant best again on Day 3 of the fourth Test against India at Old Trafford, Manchester. The right-handed batter scored a classy century that helped him break a world record going past the great Don Bradman. Root now has the most Test hundreds at home against a single opponent. With 9 centuries against India in England, he has moved ahead of Bradman, who had scored 8 hundreds against England in Australia.

That wasn’t all. Root also went past Ricky Ponting to become the second highest run-scorer in Test history. Only Tendulkar (51), Kallis (45), and Ponting (41) are ahead of him now.

The 34-year-old started his Test journey with a solid 73 on debut in Nagpur during England’s 2012 tour of India. Since then, he has become one of the greatest to ever play the game and he’s still going strong. Earlier in the series, Root had equalled Steve Smith’s record of 11 Test centuries against India. Now, with his latest hundred, he has made that record his own with 12 centuries against the Indian team across 34 Tests. Joe Root is not just breaking records he’s building a legacy that will be remembered for generations.

English star Joe Root scored another strong century that has put the hosts England in a commanding position in the Manchester Test against India. With his latest century, Root broke some top records in Test cricket.

The 34-year-old Root completed his latest Test century in 178 balls. It was his second back-to-back Test match century, as he scored 104 runs in the first innings of the Lord's Test. At tea on the third day of the Manchester Test, Root was not out at 121 runs off 201 balls with 13 fours, and England were batting at 433/4 with a lead of 75 runs.

• With his 38th Test century, Root recorded the joint fourth-most Test centuries, equalling the record of legendary Sri Lankan cricketer Kumar Sangakkara (38 Test centuries). The top three names in this list are Indian cricketer Sachin Tendulkar (51 Test centuries), South African cricketer Jacques Kallis (45 Test centuries), and Australian cricketer Ricky Ponting (41 Test centuries). 
• With his 23rd home Test century, Root recorded the joint most Test centuries at home, equalling the record of Sri Lankan Mahela Jayawardene, South African Jacques Kallis, and Australian Ricky Ponting. 
• With his ninth Test century against India at home, Root records the most Test centuries against one team at home. The previous record was the Australian legend Sir Don Bradman's eight Test centuries against England in Australia. 
• With his 12th Test century against India, Root sets a new record for most Test centuries against India, by surpassing Australian Steven Smith's 11 Test centuries against India. Root became the fifth batter to record at least 12 Test centuries against a single team. 

While the visitors India are under pressure in the do-or-die Manchester Test, the off-spinner Washington Sundar brought some relief by taking two quick wickets, including dismissing Harry Brook cheaply. 

After winning the toss in the Manchester Test, the fourth Test of the five-match Test series (Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2025), English captain Ben Stokes chose to field first and bowled out India for 358 runs. Coming to bat at no.5, when England were batting on 341/3, Brook scored only three runs off 12 balls before Washington Sundar stumped him out. It was a nice delivery as the offie dragged the English batter out of the crease and drifted him past the outside edge, as the substitute wicketkeeper Dhruv Jurel comfortably stumped Brook. In 25 balls, Sundar produced two wickets for the under-pressure visitors as he dismissed set Ollie Pope (71) and Brook (3).

India can't afford another defeat

India are currently trailing this Test series by 2-1 with the fourth Test running at Old Trafford in Manchester, where they have never won a Test match. While India can't afford another defeat in this series, they must win the remaining two Tests to win this away series, and can only draw the series by winning a Test and drawing the other. 

Rishabh Pant showed real courage in the fourth Test against England at Old Trafford. On Day 1, he was batting well on 37 when he hurt his foot and had to walk off the field. Many thought he wouldn’t come back, but on Day 2, after Shardul Thakur got out, Pant returned to bat again despite the pain.

Even though he wasn’t fully fit, Pant came back just to help his team. He looked uncomfortable, but stood tall and added important runs. Fans and experts praised his fearless attitude. It wasn’t just about runs it was about heart.

During the match, Pant also created history. He became the first non-English wicketkeeper to score 1000 Test runs in England . This shows how strong his record is in tough English conditions. Because of the foot injury, Pant won’t keep wickets for the rest of the match. The BCCI confirmed this and said Dhruv Jurel will take over behind the stumps. This also happened in the third Test when Pant had a finger injury. Still, the board added that Pant will be available to bat again if needed.
