The Mumbai Indians (MI) are set to collide with the Gujarat Titans (GT) in a much-anticipated match at Wankhede Stadium on Tuesday, May 6, in IPL 2025, but just like the previous day's rain-affected match with the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Gujarat Titans, now there's still concern about the weather.

Both teams are battling for a playoff spot, and the match is vital for both teams involved. However, the forecast for the weather isn't too encouraging for us in Mumbai. Rain is forecasted shortly before the start of the match, especially between 4 PM and 6 PM, along with a chance of thunderstorms later this evening with LOTS of rain.

Wankhede Stadium weather update

A significant concern for fans and players is the weather forecast in Mumbai, where, according to Accuweather, there is rain predicted leading up to the match, including heavy rain from 4 PM to 6 PM with possible thunderstorms later in the night. It will be around 27°C, but high humidity would mean it feels like 31°C. Winds of 13 km/h with gusts of 46 km/h, thick cloud cover, and 1.2 mm of rain could mean that we are unsure if the game will be totally washed out, but almost certainly if the rain continues, delays on the match will be the norm. If we get some later in the day limited overs game could be played, and we could still get a result, depending on the rain, and keep alive both teams' playoff chances!

Playoff Implications for MI and GT

This game is important to both MI and GT, as they both sit at 14 points, in third and fourth spots on the points table. Gujarat now has a game in hand versus MI; hence, they slightly have the advantage. For either MI or GT, winning the game would mean they have taken another crucial step (2) closer to securing a playoff spot. For this match, therefore, a loss would mean that the team has work to do to finish in the top two teams and add pressure to the remaining matches.

It is important to know that the last meeting in Ahmedabad saw Gujarat Titans win earlier in the season by a margin of 33 runs over MI. There is hope amongst fans that the match can be played to its full length; however, ultimately the weather will be a factor, and it will remain to be seen what happens in this important match.

<![CDATA[IPL 2025, Match 55: Sunrisers Hyderabad vs Delhi Capitals Full Match Highlights]]> https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/ipl-2025-match-55-sunrisers-hyderabad-vs-delhi-capitals-full-match-highlights/ https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/ipl-2025-match-55-sunrisers-hyderabad-vs-delhi-capitals-full-match-highlights/ Mon, 05 May 2025 23:37:56 GMT

The 55th match of the IPL 2025 season, featuring Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Delhi Capitals (DC), will be remembered as a disappointing affair for both fans and players, after rain kept on falling on the field and a wet outfield caused the game to be abandoned without SRH needing to bat or having the chance to chase. The game was played at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad in what was an important game for both sides to try to revive their campaigns. The game had plenty of potential; however, the weather dictated the outcome, resulting in both sides receiving a point.

Delhi Capitals, who were put in to bat first, struggled to get going, as the SRH pace attack fronted by Pat Cummins took early control of the innings. Without a single player getting to double figures except Ashutosh Sharma (41 off 26), DC found themselves at 29/5 from the early onslaught of Cummins. The Aussie would finish with impressive figures of 31-3-19. But then a counter-attacking partnership between Tristan Stubbs (41* off 36) and Ashutosh Sharma somehow gave Delhi a fighting chance to compete with 133 runs, finishing at 133/7 after 20 overs.

Rain Denies SRH, Playoff Dreams Shattered

Unfortunately for SRH, the weather turned against them during the innings break. It was one short of impossible for the umpires to get a clear view of play when inspections kept ruling that the outfield wasn't fit to play. The umpires kept making delays, with the end of inspections not looking good for SRH. After a long interruption, the match was officially abandoned.

By not finishing this match, SRH were officially eliminated from the playoff race. With just three wins out of 11, SRH remain at the bottom of the table and were not able to build up enough momentum over the season. Their inconsistencies and inability to finish off games have come back to cost them time and time again.

For the Delhi Capitals, they have now moved up to fifth place, and they will stay in with a chance of making the playoffs with this one point as they now continue to focus on their remaining fixtures in the hope of moving into the top four as the league phase starts to draw to a close.

This was a big disappointment for SRH, but for Delhi Capitals, this could be hugely significant in a very competitive race for the playoffs. In the end, with every point so important at the conclusion of IPL 2025, it's very possible that this abandoned match could even be crucial for the Delhi Capitals.

<![CDATA[IPL 2025: KKR vs PBKS match abandoned – Which team gained the most?]]> https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/ipl-2025-kkr-vs-pbks-match-abandoned-which-team-gained-the-most/ https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/ipl-2025-kkr-vs-pbks-match-abandoned-which-team-gained-the-most/ Sat, 26 Apr 2025 23:16:16 GMT

The highly anticipated IPL 2025 Match 44 between Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Punjab Kings (PBKS) at Eden Gardens ended in frustration after rain poured down, forcing an abandonment. The PBKS set a strong total at 201 runs in the innings, and right before KKR could start their chase, rain began pouring down. KKR fans once again started holding on to hope that for some reason, the rains would disappear thanks to the rainy atmosphere and the strong breeze blowing through, but steady showers arrived, and not even five minimum overs were able to be bowled to constitute a valid game. Both teams were awarded one point each according to IPL guidelines due to the no-result.

How the Washout Impacts KKR

For KKR, the washout was a major disappointment in an already poor season. A victory vs. PBKS could have helped maintain KKR's playoff hopes and the opportunity to gain some momentum going forward. Instead, the point shared is somewhat a consolation; however, they are still behind in the playoff hunt.

In addition, the Knight Riders are running out of time. Each game they play from now on, the margin for error shrinks. They are in a position now where almost every game is a must-win. Right now, if they lose any game, the chances of claiming one of the top four spots diminish rapidly, and the rain-affected match at Eden Gardens will certainly mask this disappointment for the home team and their loyal fans.

PBKS Benefit From Abandonment Slightly

On the other hand, Punjab Kings will be somewhat satisfied with the outcome. Before the match, PBKS had already managed five victories in eight games and was in fifth place on the table. While they would have loved to win the match to solidify their chances for the playoffs, one point clocks them in to competing for the top four while keeping their net run rate (NRR) intact. Importantly, losing would have been detrimental to their campaign going forward.

The single point from the washout puts PBKS where it is still very much in the race for a playoff spot, and more importantly, PBKS is now a spot clear from the cluster of teams vying for playoff positions in the bottom half. With several matches still to play, PBKS is in a strong position to move higher up the table. Maintaining consistency is vital as they enter the business end of the tournament, but while this match didn't deliver a win, it certainly didn't do any damage.

All things considered, while neither team would have wanted a washout, it is difficult to argue that PBKS did not come away with slightly more from this abandonment. PBKS still has control of its playoff destiny with several matches still to play. By contrast, any washout only adds to the pressure on KKR since nearly every match remaining must be won to maintain their playoff aspirations. As the IPL 2025 season moves towards the business end of the season, every point counts, and for KKR, time is quickly running out.
