On Sunday, captain Alyssa Healy scored a brilliant innings that helped Australia to a convincing win over India and made it two defeats in two matches for the Women in Blue at the ICC Women's World Cup 2025. Healy's innings was a superb blend of aggression, timing, and calmness, showing why she is one of the most dangerous batters in women's cricket. Healy's innings was critical not just to Australia's win, but it also underlined that the quality and competitiveness of women's cricket is on the rise, where individual talent is impacting matches in big tournaments.

Women's cricket has a long history of batters producing phenomenal performances in the fifty-over format, with centuries often being the sign of class and consistency. With the ICC Women's World Cup 2025 taking place right now, it is a good time to look at the players with the record for most centuries in Women's ODIs. Legends such as Mithali Raj, Charlotte Edwards and Meg Lanning have set benchmarks over the years, with a mixture of technique, temperament, and power. Alyssa Healy’s current achievements place her alongside the modern greats, legitimizing her claim to be a major player on the all-time century-scorers list in women’s ODIs.

Meg Lanning

Meg Lanning

Meg Lanning, the former captain of Australia, holds the record for the most centuries in women's ODIs. Lanning, who captained the Australian Women's team to several World Cup titles, is considered one of the greatest batters in the history of women's cricket. Lanning scored 15 ODI hundreds in just 102 innings, achieving an extraordinary innings-per-century ratio of 6.80. She scored 4,602 runs in ODIs, with a career average of 53.51, which is the highest for those scoring over 1,200 runs in ODIs.

Smriti Mandhana

Smriti Mandhana

Smriti Mandhana, one of India's rising stars, is getting close to Lanning's record. Mandhana, who is 29 years old and has 13 hundreds in just 111 innings, looks like she has many years left in peak professional cricket. In recent times, Mandhana has consistently been one of the best-performing players in women's cricket, and it seems likely she will not only match but also exceed Lanning's records in the near future.

Suzie Bates

Suzie Bates

Suzie Bates, a seasoned opener from New Zealand, also has her sights set on the century record; Bates made her debut in 2006, and has achieved 13 centuries in 167 innings, which is equal to Mandhana's record. Bates averages 39.23 and is just 68 runs short of surpassing Charlotte Edwards as the second-highest run scorer in women's ODI history.

Tammy Beaumont

Tammy Beaumont

Tammy Beaumont from England ranks fourth among those with the most ODI centuries. Beaumont debuted in 2009 and has 12 centuries in 124 innings with a top score of 168. She remains in a position to climb the list further if she can continue her recent form in international cricket.

Nat Sciver-Brunt

Nat Sciver Brunt

Sciver-Brunt is one of the best all-rounders in the game, having amassed more than 4,200 runs at an average of 47.12 and a strike rate of 95.30. The former Australia captain, Meg Lanning, has revealed the favorites for the upcoming Women’s ODI World Cup 2025, set to start on September 30 between the hosts India and Sri Lanka. Australia, the defending champions, have all the knowledge of winning trophies, and Lanning has won seven of those in the 50-over format.

She led the side in the semifinal of the 2017 edition, where they fell short against the spirited Harmanpreet Kaur-led side, who later went on to miss their maiden title in the final against England at Lord’s. Lanning felt that India, due to their home conditions and the recent progress in the format, would be the main competitors.

“I know Australia has dominated a lot of it, but it's certainly not a foregone conclusion. I'd still love Australia to win, obviously, but I think India is the main competitor. I think India is a significant challenge to everybody. Talent-wise, they're as good as anyone, and I think they are really starting to understand how to win.Lanning expressed while speaking to ICC Digital.

Apart from the hosts, Lanning shed light on some of the other teams that could pull up their socks in the marquee event with a surprise. Australia will start their defense against New Zealand on October 01 at the Holkar Stadium in Indore.

“They (India) are well led by Harmanpreet Kaur, and there are really good players who have got some good experience now. So I expect them to do well. And if they put it together and play well, I don't think anyone can actually get close to them. They are very good. So you've got England, who are always strong. The 33-year-old Singapore-born addressed.

“And then, you can never write off New Zealand, too. They showed in that T20 World Cup (2024) recently that if you time your run really nicely, then you never know what can happen. So that's the beauty of the game - there's some really good competitive sides out there.Meg Lanning concluded the discussion.

<![CDATA[“Every plan we had, she had an answer”: Lanning on Harmanpreet’s 2017 semi-final knock]]> https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/every-plan-we-had-she-had-an-answer-lanning-on-harmanpreet-s-2017-semi-final-knock/ https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/every-plan-we-had-she-had-an-answer-lanning-on-harmanpreet-s-2017-semi-final-knock/ Mon, 08 Sep 2025 21:41:51 GMT

Former Australia captain Meg Lanning has lavished praise on India captain Harmanpreet Kaur, a previous member of the Australian national team, for her leadership skills and for her innings in the 2017 World Cup semi-final match. Lanning said that Kaur was a captain who was able to get results herself or as a captain by the way she moved her team around the ground, and that it was "always a good challenge" to face a team with Kaur as captain.

On her memories of facing Kaur in the 2017 semi-final match in Derby after Kaur scored an unreal 171 not out, Lanning clearly remembered every plan Australia tried; Kaur had an answer. "We had every plan, but she had an answer to it," Lanning reiterated the assistance felt on the ground during that day, noting Kaur's autos are where we met when." "Once Harman got going, we couldn't do anything; she was just hitting every ball we bowled for 4." The innings was exceptional and dismantled the Australian attack at the same time, raising Kaur's stature as one of the meanest competitors in women's cricket.

Lanning on Kaur’s leadership and World Cup challenge

As they look ahead to the challenges that await Kaur and the Indian team while hosting the ICC Women's Cricket World Cup 2025, Lanning reflected on the pressures surrounding the current moment. Drawing on her own experience of leading Australia for their home World Cup, Lanning noted the pressure that comes with it (really good pressure) and that being in the spotlight comes with benefits, as a home World Cup is the best, as the home fans backing you and being able to draw energy and motivation from them is also really special.

The competitive nature of their leadership rivalry has been on display in the Women's Premier League (WPL) as well. In the 2023 final, Lanning captained the Delhi Capitals and Kaur captained the Mumbai Indians. Lanning admitted that the Mumbai squad had "a lot of great players" and was a great challenge for her team. While at the same time, Lanning found what she believed was a strong opening partnership with Shafali Verma as the best opening partnership in the tournament! Ultimately, though, it was Kaur's Mumbai Indians who won the match, claiming the first WPL title.

For her part, Harmanpreet has also given the highest regard for Lanning's captaincy, describing Lanning's competitiveness and ability to lead Australia and win multiple ICC trophies with Australia. Both leaders acknowledge the respect they have for each other, but also that they are still both building a legacy as leaders of women's cricket.

Northern Superchargers Women put on a solid all-round show to beat Oval Invincibles Women by 7 wickets, chasing down 126 with five balls left. Their bowlers kept things tight before the batters wrapped up the chase calmly.

The Invincibles never really got going. Captain Lauren Winfield-Hill tried to hold things together with 37 from 30 balls, while Joanne Gardner chipped in with an unbeaten 19 off 14. Meg Lanning made 21 from 25 but struggled for fluency. With wickets falling regularly, they couldn’t build a strong partnership. Kate Cross (2/16) and Annabel Sutherland (2/26) bowled with good control and made life tough for the batters.

In reply, the Superchargers looked comfortable. Alice Davidson-Richards led the way with a classy 50 from 32 balls, hitting nine fours. Phoebe Litchield supported her well with 29 from 21. Later, Nicola Carey finished the job quickly with 25 off just 15 balls. The Invincibles tried hard, and Amanda-Jade Wellington stood out with 1/19, but they couldn’t stop the Superchargers from crossing the line.

Oval Invincibles Women put on a strong show at home, beating Welsh Fire Women by 39 runs. Alice Capsey and Marizanne Kapp shone with the bat, while Sophia Smale and Amanda-Jade Wellington did the job with the ball.

The hosts lost captain Winfield-Hill on the first ball, but Alice Capsey’s quick 55 off 34 brought the innings to life. Meg Lanning added 23 runs, and Marizanne Kapp’s powerful 47 off 32 gave the team control. Amanda-Jade Wellington’s 17 off 9 balls helped them finish at 150 in their 100 balls.

Chasing 151, Sophia Dunkley fought hard with a fine 56 off 41 balls. But wickets kept falling around her, and once she was dismissed, Welsh Fire collapsed. None of the other batters crossed 16 as Invincibles’ bowlers kept it tight. Welsh Fire were bowled out for 111, handing Oval Invincibles a comfortable win.

London Spirit began their Hundred campaign in style, beating Oval Invincibles by 17 runs at Lord’s. Grace Harris was the hero, smashing 89 runs from just 42 balls to give the defending champions a perfect start in front of more than 15,000 fans. Harris played a fearless knock, hitting seven fours and six huge sixes. She got good support from Cordelia Griffith, who made her first ever fifty in the Hundred from 29 balls. Together, they put on a 100‑run stand that lifted Spirit to 176 for 5 the second‑highest total in the history of the women’s competition.

Chasing a big target, Oval Invincibles relied heavily on Meg Lanning. The Australian star, who was overlooked by Spirit in the draft, played a brilliant innings of 85 from 51 balls. She kept her team in the hunt until she was dismissed, after which the chase started to fade. Marizanne Kapp and Alice Capsey hit a few quick runs, but it wasn’t enough as Invincibles ended on 159 for 4.

For Spirit, Issy Wong and Tara Norris bowled well, taking important wickets at the right time. Tash Farrant also had reason to celebrate as she claimed her first wicket in the competition in almost four years after battling injury. This win was extra special for Spirit as they were without last year’s captain, Heather Knight.

Mumbai Indians' Innings

MI won the toss and decided to bowl. It turned out to be a wise decision, as they managed to pull together a gutsy 149/7 from 20 overs. The high point of their innings was skipper Harmanpreet Kaur's composed innings of 66 off 44 balls. She played in a sensible way, playing boundaries at the right time and piloting her team through tough spots.

Nat Sciver-Brunt added a useful 30 runs. MI, though, lost wickets at regular intervals and the DC's best bowler was Marizanne Kapp with two wickets on 25 runs. But still, MI reached a tough total due to crucial partnerships in middle and late overs of the inning.

Delhi Capitals' Chase

In the 150-run chase, the DC openers played fairly well until pressure started mounting on them by MI's tight spell of bowling. The only one who played well in the initial part with bat as well as at DC's run chase's command was Kapp. The lady played a gritty 40 off 26. She fought hard for her side with timely boundaries, one of which came in the shape of a six.

At the other end, however, MI's bowlers-Sciver-Brunt and Amelia Kerr-especially tried to play big shots. Sciver-Brunt was top class, taking 3 wickets for 30 runs and providing that much-needed breakthrough against DC's Shafali Verma, who was one of the more aggressive batsmen. Amelia Kerr's tight bowling and Jemimah Rodrigues's dismissal, who started aggressively but got out for 12, tilted the match in MI's favor.

 • Amelia Kerr’s crucial wicket of Jemimah Rodrigues turned the game in MI’s favor.
 • Kapp’s late surge, including a six and a few boundaries, gave DC some hope, but they ultimately fell short.

Currently occupying the top position in the league, they boast a healthy run rate. Their success is highlighted by victories against all other participating teams, underlining their well-rounded and competitive performance. The Capitals’ consistent winning run positions them as strong contenders in the tournament, and their ability to overcome diverse opponents adds to their reputation as a team to beat in the Women’s Premier League.

In the recent Women’s Premier League (WPL) clash, Delhi Capitals emerged victorious against Mumbai Indians, securing a 29-run win at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi. Meg Lanning also made a significant contribution with a half-century, scoring 53 off 38 deliveries, setting the stage for Rodrigues’ explosive finish.
