The second match of Major League Cricket 2025 was between MI New York and Texas Super Kings. It was a very exciting match. Super Kings won the match by 3 runs. MI New York batted first and scored 182 runs for 8 wickets in 20 overs. In reply, Texas Super Kings scored 185 runs for 6 wickets in 20 overs and won the match. Star batter Agni Dev Chopra, son of film director Vidhu Vinod Chopra and film critic Anupama Chopra, played for MI New York in the ongoing Major League Cricket on Friday. This is special because he was playing domestic cricket in India just five months ago.

Agni Dev Chopra made his MLC debut for MI New York on Saturday, but it did not go well. He was out for just five runs against the Texas Super Kings at the Oakland Coliseum in California.

But the big question is — how is Chopra, who played domestic cricket in India in January 2025, allowed to play in a foreign T20 league when the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) does not allow Indian players to play in foreign leagues?

In the winter of 2023–24, Agni broke into Indian domestic cricket by becoming the first player to score a century in each of his first four first-class matches. He is 26 years old and was born in Detroit, Michigan, not in India. BCCI rules say that active Indian male cricketers cannot play in foreign T20 leagues. So Agni did not need any permission from the BCCI. Even Unmukt Chand, the former India U-19 World Cup captain, had to retire from Indian cricket before he could play in the Bangladesh Premier League, Big Bash League, and MLC.

Indian male cricketers are not allowed to participate in overseas T20 leagues, but Agni Dev Chopra, who played for Mizoram in January this year, is representing MI New York in the MLC.

Meanwhile, in the match, while chasing Texas’ target of 185, MI New York lost three wickets for just 24 runs during the powerplay. Monank Patel and Michael Bracewell then added 97 runs for the fourth wicket, before Bracewell got out to Adam Milne in the 14th over.

After that, Monank and Kieron Pollard scored 38 runs for the fifth wicket, but Pollard was run out by Daryl Mitchell. After his dismissal, New York's batting collapsed, and they could only score 182 runs, losing the close match by just three runs.

In the second match of Major League Cricket 2025, MI New York met the Texas Super Kings at the Oakland Coliseum in California on June 13. Texas won by three runs in a game that went down to the very last ball.

MI New York started poorly, losing three wickets for just 24 runs. They fought back with a 97-run partnership, but could not finish the chase. In one of the most bizarre moments, Trent Boult was run out in just the 11th delivery after a simple mix-up—perhaps the funniest run-out you will ever see. Earlier, Kieron Pollard had a shocking brain-fade that cost his team another wicket.

Daryl Mitchell was the hero for Texas. Even though he gave away 53 runs in his four overs, his final deliveries saved eight runs and sealed the win. Pollard did manage one powerful shot that broke a stadium window, and the match featured three run-outs in total—two of which looked more like street cricket than professional play.

On the next ball, Pollard smashed a six over long-on that went straight into the window glass of a luxury suite in section 142 of the Oakland Coliseum. A hole was made where the ball hit, and the glass broke. Pollard then hit two more fours on the next two balls and scored 18 runs in that over.

But then came Pollard’s careless moment. On the fifth ball of the same over, Mitchell bowled a full-length delivery near Pollard’s feet. Pollard flicked it and started to walk for a single. Mitchell ran quickly to the ball and threw it towards the non-striker’s end. At first, Pollard was just walking, but when he saw the throw, he began to run. It was too late. Mitchell hit the stumps, and Pollard was run out. He scored 32 runs off 16 balls, hitting five fours and one six.

Another run out happened on the very next ball. Monank Patel tried to play the ball but it hit his pads and rolled to the off side. Mitchell picked it up fast and hit the stumps again. Monank could not return in time and was run out. MI New York’s score became 159 for six.

The funniest moment of the match came in the 19th over with Trent Boult’s run out. Tajinder Singh played Adam Milne’s ball to deep third man and ran for a run. He thought about going for a second run but then refused. However, Boult had already started running. During the run, Boult’s bat slipped from his hand. He tried to reach the crease by diving with his hand, but he was short. Devon Conway removed the bails after a quick throw from Mohammad Mohsin. Boult’s dismissal looked very silly and is being called one of the strangest run outs in T20 cricket.

There were just 14 balls left in the match when Boult got out. His run out changed the momentum, and what looked like a possible win for MI New York turned into a close loss. Fans are calling it one of the most bizarre and comic moments in MLC history.
