Leading wicket taker: The Australian right-arm fast-medium emerged as the leading wicket taker of the season. The San Francisco Unicorn bowler bagged a total of 18 scalps in MLC 2025, including a 4/28 bowling figure. The pacer was able to keep his economy rate (8.86) low as well in the process.

Leading run scorer: Another exciting category to take a look at. Surpassing Faf du Plessis, MINY batter Monank Patel became the leading run getter of the tournament. Throughout the tournament, his dominating batting claimed a total of 478 runs for the MLC 2025 season and became one of the main reasons behind MINY’s triumph.

MVP of the series: Here comes the most valuable performer of the series, and it goes to Mitchell Owen. The Washington Freedom all-rounder showed his brilliant all-round skills during MLC 2025. The Australian cricketer wrapped the season with 14 wickets and 313 runs to his name.

Match 29: 2025 Major League Cricket – Washington Freedom vs MI New York

Washington Freedom beat MI New York by 6 wickets at Central Broward Regional Park Stadium in Lauderhill in Match 29 of the 2025 MLC season. MI New York won the toss and chose to bat first, but they couldn’t get going. Washington’s bowlers were very disciplined and didn’t give away easy runs. MI New York managed only 112 runs for 8 wickets in 18 overs.

Kunwarjeet Singh was their top scorer with 33 from 30 balls. Sunny Patel (16) and Heath Richards (16) added small scores but no big partnerships developed. Glenn Maxwell bowled very well today, took crucial wickets for 29 runs in 4 overs. Glenn Phillips also took 2 wickets in a single over, and Jack Edwards kept it tight with 1 wicket for 14 in 3 overs.

In Chasing 113, Washington Freedom batted confidently and won in 15 overs with 4 wickets down. Wicketkeeper Andries Gous was solid with an unbeaten 46 from 34 balls, making sure the chase stayed on track. Mark Chapman added quick runs with 27 off 18, and Glenn Phillips finished it off with 14 from 11. MI New York’s bowlers tried hard but didn’t have enough runs to defend. Tristan Luus took 2 wickets for 39 runs, while Nosthush Kenjige (1/19) and Fabian Allen (1/20) took a wicket each. It was a strong, all-round performance by Washington Freedom to secure a comfortable win.

It was a showdown between two heavyweights as MI New York and Washington Freedom collided in a high-voltage encounter at the Grand Prairie Cricket Stadium in Dallas. The bowlers on both sides had a hard time as they received a terrible pounding at the hands of the batters. It was all starting to heat up during the Washington Freedom's run chase when they needed 56 off 38, with the possibility of the game going either way loomed large.

Against the run of play, the game witnessed a stunning moment. During the 14th over of the run chase, WF's Glenn Maxwell launched a massive six against the bowling of Doug Bracewell. The ball went flying over the cow corner region and sailed deep into the stands where the fans had gathered. But the six from Maxwell was not the only moment that stood out. It was a random fan with a green top in the stands who seized the moment.

While backpedaling behind, the fan did not seem to be in total control of his movement. However, he stunned us all when he extended his right arm out to pull off an unthinkable one-handed catch. He made the catch look so ridiculously easy that even the on-air commentators were compelled to react in disbelief.

Despite throwing some punches at the MI New York bowlers, Maxwell's innings did not last long as he was cleaned up by Boult the following over for 16. WF kept losing along the way, but Chapman stayed unbeaten on 45 to steer his side to a narrow victory over MI New York by a margin of two wickets.  Mitch Owen was adjudged Player of the Match for his brilliant all-round heroics of 60 (26) and 1/29. He even maintained high standards on the field and claimed two catches to remove De Kock and Pooran.

Following this riveting encounter, MI New York and Washington Freedom are slated to play their next games against San Francisco Unicorns and Texas Super Kings on June 23 and June 22, respectively.
