End of a freshly started controversy? At least Shubman Gill has tried to do so through his Instagram story with Hardik Pandya. The controversy started during the toss for the Mumbai Indians vs. Gujarat Titans (MI vs. GT) Eliminator match of the ongoing IPL 2025 and ended by Gill the next day, after the match where Mumbai won over Gujarat and knocked them out of the tournament.

It was all going well according to the plans. Captains from both teams, Shubman Gill and Hardik Pandya, came for the toss with smiling faces, took pictures together, and then did the toss. Hardik Pandya won the toss and elected to bat first, which proved absolutely on point when the match began.

After the toss, it was caught on camera that Pandya extended his hand for a ceremonial handshake to Gill, but Gill chose to turn his back and walk away. From there the controversy ignited. Fans and even commentators wondered to see the incident between these two Team India star cricketers.

Later, after the match, Gill shared an Instagram story, tagging Hardik Pandya. He said, "Nothing but love. Don't believe everything you see on the internet."

Against Gujarat Titans in the Eliminator match, Jonny Bairstow combined with Rohit Sharma to stitch an 84-run partnership in the opening wicket. While the English batter departed for 47 off 22, Rohit went strong and got 81 runs, which helped Mumbai Indians to post a mammoth 228 in the first innings. Sai Sudharsan tried to lead Gujarat to a heroic win, but they eventually fell short by 20 runs, and Mumbai Indians comfortably moved to the Qualifier 2 stage to face Punjab Kings.

A heated Eliminator clash ensued at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur on Friday. A showdown that tested the might and resilience of all players from the Gujarat Titans and the Mumbai Indians. The tension went through the roof as for both teams, it was a mere matter of survival for the next phase of the tournament. After encountering countless instances of ebbs and flows, MI, under the leadership of Hardik Pandya, managed to secure a victory by 20 runs against the Gujarat Titans.

The five-time champions found themselves in a hell of a fight to secure their spot in Qualifier 2 against the Punjab Kings. Despite mounting a gigantic score of 228, MI were not out of the woods. GT tried to counterattack and on the back of a fighting 80 (490 from Sai Sudharsan, GT found themselves comfortably placed at 151-2 after 13. But Gleeson and Bumrah's tight bowling in the backend choked the life out of GT as they fell agonizingly short of their desired target by a margin of 20 runs.

As fate would have it, the win turned out to be a smooth afair for MI as they were successfully able to close out the game without facing major hiccups towards the end. But one has to admit, the game reached a point where the pendulum could have shifted in any which way. The partnership between Sundar and Sudharsan got the entire MI camp sweating, including their head coach, Mahela Jayawardene, who was frequently seen passing on instructions to the entire team, including Jasprit Bumrah at the boundary line.

Immediately after Jayawardene tried to intervene, Bumrah was spotted requesting the coach to relax and take it easy, appearing to disregard any advice he had to offer. The animated interaction between the duo sparked the imagination of Jatin Sapru, who was on air for the Hindi broadcast. He had to say the following:

"Bumrah is basically saying, 'Relax, I know my job well. I am here. You stay calm and just give me a chance."

Bumrah calms Mahela down:

Rohit's whirlwind 81 (50) miraculously saved the day for MI as they live to fight another day. Their next big challenge awaits them in Ahmedabad, where they will take on a bruised PBKS in the Qualifier 2 match on June 1.

Mumbai Indians are now just one win away from playing their 7th IPL final. The team has confirmed its place in Qualifier 2 by defeating Gujarat Titans by 20 runs in the eliminator match. In this match against Gujarat, all the batsmen from Mumbai scored runs in good rhythm. In which, especially with Rohit Sharma's innings of 81 runs, Mumbai proved successful in giving a target of 228 runs to Gujarat in this big match in IPL 2025.

As told to you, Mumbai batted first in this match and scored 227 runs in 20 overs on the scoreboard. In this, all the batsmen from Mumbai performed well. Rohit Sharma scored 81, Jonny Bairstow 47, Surya 33 and Tikal Verma played a quick innings of 25 runs. Due to which Mumbai was successful in giving a target of 228 runs in this eliminator match. However, this run chase did not start well for Gujarat. Because the team captain Shubman Gill returned to the pavilion after scoring just 1. But Sai Sudarshan definitely played an innings of 80 runs. Despite this, the team was able to score only 208 runs in its 20 overs. In this way Mumbai has won this match.

Match will be held with PBKS in Qualifier 2

Now if Mumbai Indians want to reach the final of this season, then they will also have to defeat Punjab Kings in Qualifier 2. Which is of course coming after a one-sided defeat against RCB in the last match. But Punjab has performed well throughout this IPL season. In this sense, it would not be wrong to say that it will not be easy for Mumbai to win this match against Punjab. This match will be played on June 1 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

<![CDATA[WATCH: Shubman Gill Refuses Handshake with Hardik Pandya – What’s Brewing?]]> https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/shubman-gill-refuses-handshake-with-hardik-pandya-what-s-brewing/ https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/shubman-gill-refuses-handshake-with-hardik-pandya-what-s-brewing/ Fri, 30 May 2025 23:20:13 GMT

Beginning of a new rivalry? That's the question sparked among cricket fans when Gujarat Titans (GT) skipper Shubman Gill refused to shake hands with Mumbai Indians (MI) captain Hardik Pandya after the toss. Hardik was ready for the ceremonial handshake, but Gill turned his head and decided to move on. That added some extra spice before the high-octane MI vs. GT match ignited.

According to the rules, captains from both teams came onto the field for the toss. Gill and Pandya were looking at a good vibe before the clash, took pictures together, the toss went as per the plans, and then there was the moment when Gill refused to shake hands with Pandya. The cameraman did not dare to miss the moment, and later, it sparked controversy among cricket fans across the world. But why did Gill do that? That's a mystery for now.

Mumbai Indians captain Hardik Pandya won the toss and decided to bat first. His decision proved right when Rohit Sharma and Jonny Bairstow started to accelerate their innings against GT bowlers. Sharma's blazing 50-ball 81 was well supported by the English batter's 47 off 22 and Suryakumar Yadav's 33 off 20-ball innings. Pandya also played his part well and helped his team to post 228 in the first innings. The Mumbai skipper got an unbeaten 22 by facing only 9 deliveries, powered by 3 maximums.

Gujarat Titans' innings was fumbled early as their skipper and opener, Gill, departed cheaply for only 1, facing a couple of deliveries. He misread Trent Boult's delivery and felt for a leg before the wicket.

Hardik's own way to reply Gill

After the lbw decision from the on-field umpire, Gill was having a chat with the opening partner Sai Sudharsan about the review call. At that moment, Hardik passed running Shubman Gill, shouting and celebrating intensely for the wicket.

The high-voltage Eliminator game got more heated for the newly formed rivalry between these two Team India star cricketers.

With only hours to go for the high-octane Eliminator clash in IPL 2025, Mumbai Indians (MI) have added England's once-feared opener Jonny Bairstow to the squad. Additionally, the five-time champions have made a few other additions as well. Following the exit of Will Jacks, Ryan Rickelton, and Corbin Bosch, all of whom have departed as a result of international commitments, England's T20I rookie Richard Gleeson has been called in along with Sri Lanka's batting all-rounder Charith Asalanka.

There is an imminent possibility that we could see Bairstow in action for the upcoming Eliminator clash, which will be held in Mullanpur this evening. With Rickelton out of the picture, Rohit could soon find himself a new opening partner. The English wicket-keeper batsman has joined the franchise in the middle of the domestic county season. Furthermore, he could also come in more than handy with his glove work behind the stumps. While interacting with ESPNcricinfo, former Australian great Tom Moody described Bairstow as an "IPL-proven" player.

“It’s not like MI are at odds about whether to play him or not. Bairstow is an IPL-proven player. He’s come in with this opportunity in very good form for Yorkshire," Tom Moody said.

A peek into Bairstow's illustrious IPL career

This will be Bairstow's first IPL appearance in three years, having last competed in the league in 2022. Although he was included in the Punjab Kings roster for both 2023 and 2024, he did not play a single game. The 35-year-old has an impressive IPL record, largely attributed to his outstanding performances with the Sunrisers Hyderabad from 2019 to 2021.

During the 2019 season, Bairstow represented SRH in 10 matches, plundering a tally of 445 runs, which included one century and two half-centuries. His strike rate of 157.14 for that season is his highest across four seasons in the league. In total, Bairstow has gathered 1,291 runs in 39 IPL games, with an average of 35.86 and a strike rate of 142.65.

Bairstow is expected to join hands with Rohit at the top of the order. The former MI captain has endured a difficult season. MI’s top-order woes have been largely minimized by the brilliance of Suryakumar Yadav, who has stitched 25-plus scores in almost every IPL innings.

In IPL 2025 Match 56, Gujarat Titans (GT) defeated Mumbai Indians (MI) by 3 Wickets, victorious under the DLS system since rain disrupted play. MI had put up a competitive 155/8 in 20 overs, headed by Will Jacks's high of 53 from 35 balls and helped by Suryakumar Yadav's 35 and Corbin Bosch's 27. Gujarat bowlers, despite some impressive batting contributions, held MI batsmen in check, led by Sai Kishore (2/34). But play was disrupted by rain, and the DLS adjustment left Gujarat on a 148-run target in 19 overs, making the pressure heavier on the team that was chasing.

Gujarat Titans replied with a measured chase, spearheaded by Shubman Gill's 43 from 46 balls and Jos Buttler's 30 from 27. But the innings picked up pace due to Sherfane Rutherford's blistering 28 from 15 balls. Despite a battle from MI bowlers such as Jasprit Bumrah (2/19) and Trent Boult (2/22), the rain-adjusted target rendered it easier for Gujarat. They were able to keep their nerve intact and cross the finish line on the last ball, securing a heart-stopping victory by 3 wickets through the DLS method.

In a league with decades-old ones such as CSK vs MI, a new tempest brews on the horizon – Gujarat Titans (GT) vs Mumbai Indians (MI) is already looking like IPL's next showpiece encounter.

In a rain-affected Tuesday night at the legendary Wankhede, MI gave GT a taste of adversity as rare as it was sweet, breaking the rhythm of a team that had predominantly bulldozed its way through IPL 2025. Till date, GT's leading three Shubman Gill, B Sai Sudharsan, and Jos Buttler had carried an unparalleled 76% of the team's runs. All three had crossed the 500 run mark in this season, a record never achieved by any one IPL team. But against MI, they all got out early none of them scoring 50, and all of them getting out before the 15th over.

For the first time, GT's middle order had to face the music without the luxury of a strong foundation. Chasing a revised target of 147 in 19 overs, what looked like a simple run chase turned into a nerve-wracking drama. In steps Sherfane Rutherford, who was facing his first ball in more than two weeks. Then Shahrukh Khan, Rahul Tewatia, and finally Gerald Coetzee a team of underutilized but crucial cogs, thrust into a pressure cooker.

MI, led by the returning Hardik Pandya, had moments of brilliance – especially through Jasprit Bumrah and Trent Boult but they stumbled in execution. Bumrah’s brilliance nearly turned the tide, snuffing out Gill and rattling Shahrukh’s stumps with a yorker from another dimension. Yet MI’s tactical missteps, such as holding Bumrah back when Rutherford was attacking, and the disarray during the final rain delay, opened the door for GT.

That door was broken down by Tewatia and Coetzee in the last over, where Deepak Chahar – surprisingly prefered ahead of Hardik got dismantled. GT required 15 from the remaining six, and they achieved it through a combination of Tewatia's composure and Coetzee's unhinged aggression, closing out a thrill ride victory.

Hardik Pandya’s move to MI and close matches have made GT vs MI the IPL’s next big rivalry

The spark was ignited when Hardik Pandya, GT's title-winning skipper and poster boy, made a blockbuster comeback to Mumbai Indians ahead of IPL 2025. It wasn't a transfer. It was drama. Emotion. Betrayal, some fans of GT might argue. After all, Hardik had performed a trophy in GT's first season and led them to the finals again in 2023. But then he was back in MI blues the team that created him, now the team he was leading against.

And that's what provided this rivalry teeth. When Hardik played GT, he wasn't merely playing his former team he was going up against players he had developed, plans he had assisted in creating, and a culture he had established.

Apart from the exciting match, this confrontation represented something greater a change in IPL's rivalry dynamics. Hardik, the former heartbeat of MI, now captains their rivals. GT, in only their third season, have already become title hopefuls and narrative drivers. And with superstars, emerging Indian talent, and pressure-cooker thrillers, GT vs MI is beginning to feel like the rivalry of the future.

CSK vs MI will forever remain the first blockbuster. But if Tuesday night is anything to go by, the future of IPL drama could very well be the fast-changing, high-stakes GT-MI showdowns.

In a sensational conclusion to the rain-hit IPL 2025 between the Mumbai Indians and the Gujarat Titans, GT head coach Ashish Nehra was in the limelight—but for the wrong reasons. The ex-India pacer was clearly agitated in the last few minutes of the match, apparently appealing to umpires to get play going after a long rain stoppage.

Nehra was fined 25% of his match fee and given one demerit point for violating Article 2.20 of the IPL Code of Conduct, relating to "conduct that is against the spirit of the game," reports say. The IPL itself did not cite the nature of the offense, only the breach and resulting punishments.

This is the first time ever in IPL history that a coach has been given a demerit point for violating the code of conduct of the league. Though there have been disciplinary actions against several players over the years, this action indicates that coaches are also now responsible for on-field conduct.

The incident provides yet another level of tension to what has been an already closely fought IPL season, with playoff races intensifying and tempers fraying as teams battle for qualification.

Match Summary: GT Win Last-Ball Thriller through DLS

In IPL 2025 Match 56, Gujarat Titans (GT) narrowly defeated Mumbai Indians (MI) by 3 wickets, winning under the DLS method after rain interrupted the game. MI posted a competitive total of 155/8 in 20 overs, with Will Jacks top-scoring with 53 off 35 balls, supported by Suryakumar Yadav’s 35 and Corbin Bosch’s 27. Despite some good batting contributions, the Gujarat bowlers, led by Sai Kishore (2/34), kept the MI batting in check. However, rain interrupted play, and the DLS adjustment set Gujarat a target of 148 runs in 19 overs, putting extra pressure on the chasing team.

Gujarat Titans responded with a calculated chase, led by Shubman Gill’s 43 off 46 balls and Jos Buttler’s 30 off 27. The innings gained momentum thanks to Sherfane Rutherford’s explosive 28 off 15 balls. Despite efforts from MI bowlers, including Jasprit Bumrah (2/19) and Trent Boult (2/22), the rain-adjusted target made it more manageable for Gujarat. They successfully held their nerve and crossed the line on the final delivery, clinching a thrilling victory by 3 wickets under the DLS method.

The two events were almost equal, at least from a pair of naked eyes that can barely find the amount of proportion to differentiate the two incidents except for the umpire's call— one is not out, and another one is out; Rohit Sharma survived, and Rashid Khan returned.

Mumbai Indians vs. Gujarat Titans (MI vs. GT), the wicket of Rashid Khan

Gujarat Titans had to overcome all the odds to win the important game of IPL 2025 at the Wankhede stadium against Mumbai Indians. Batting first, MI scored 155 for 8 wickets. Gujarat Titans was slowly but steadily chasing the total. After an interruption by rain, GT's target was reduced to 147 in 19 overs. Rashid Khan's wicket was crucial at that moment when Gujarat Titans needed 21 more runs to win in less than 2 overs. Top and middle-order regular batters were gone; it was between Mumbai Indians bowlers and Gujaratans all-rounders.

Rashid Khan is known for his spin bowling abilities but can add a good amount of runs. His wicket at the second ball of the 18th over could prove fatal for GT. Ashwani Kumar's delivery hit Khan, who is a right-handed batter, in the lower part of his right leg. A shout from MI for a possible LBW was turned down by the on-field umpire, which was later overturned when DRS was applied. According to the ball tracking system, the ball landed in line. So Rashid had to go.

Mumbai Indians vs. Rajasthan Royals (MI vs. RR), Rohit Sharma not out

Fazalhaq Farooqi's delivery went straight to hit Rohit Sharma's pad, and the on-field umpire's decision was out. The decision was overturned after a DRS check. The decision sparked controversy among cricket fans. A different angle showed that a ball was slightly outside the line, so Sharma was not out.

According to ICC rules, the ball must be more than 50 percent out to be considered outside the line. The umpire’s judgment can be overturned if more than half of the ball has pitched on the leg side.

<![CDATA[[WATCH] IPL 2025: Jasprit Bumrah cleans up Shubman Gill with dream delivery in MI vs GT match]]> https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/watch-ipl-2025-jasprit-bumrah-cleans-up-shubman-gill-with-dream-delivery-in-mi-vs-gt-match/ https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/watch-ipl-2025-jasprit-bumrah-cleans-up-shubman-gill-with-dream-delivery-in-mi-vs-gt-match/ Wed, 07 May 2025 02:30:47 GMT

In an exciting match of the IPL 2025 season, Jasprit Bumrah provided one of the highlight moments of the day during the match between Mumbai Indians (MI) and Gujarat Titans (GT). At a point when GT were sitting comfortably at 113/2 in the 14.4 over of their chase of MI's 155/8, Bumrah produced a "dream" delivery to dismiss GT Captain Shubman Gill, and with that opened the door for MI to get back into the game. At the time of Gill's dismissal, GT were chasing 43 runs off of 32 balls, so this was a crucial moment for MI in the match.

The match, played on May 6, 2025, at the Wankhede Stadium, saw MI post a modest total, thanks to Will Jacks’ 53 and Suryakumar Yadav’s 35. Gill was on 43 off of 45 balls whilst Sherfane Rutherford played a quick innings of 27 not out. Regardless of the rain that had already interrupted play as well, Bumrah's dismissal at this point was the highlight. Bumrah is known for his unconventional action and ability to bowl strictly to a plan and consistently land the ball on the target. On this delivery Bumrah bowled a beautifully executed yorker. Gill could not flick the ball off of his toes, and as Gill attempted to do so, Bumrah rattled his stumps! This was a classic Bumrah delivery, which assists in exemplifying why he is one of the best in the world!

Bumrah’s impact didn’t stop there. Above all, as well as bowling first, Boult, who also took a vital wicket, and their fast, aggressive bowling helped pull MI back into the match, despite the rain and wet conditions. Bumrah was unfazed, delivering 4 overs for 19 runs in what can only be described as a beautiful display of pressure bowling! He remarkably consistently hit the stumps, and as a result, froze GT's middle order.

A Game-Changing Spell!
