Mumbai, often referred to as the city of dreams, is not just the home of Bollywood but also a buzzing hub for cricket fans, especially during the Indian Premier League (IPL). The city’s iconic Wankhede Stadium is where cinema meets sport, and match number 33 of IPL 2025 — the clash between Mumbai Indians (MI) and SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) was no exception.

While many celebrities made their way to the stadium to enjoy the electrifying atmosphere, it was actress Sonal Chauhan, who captured the spotlight. Her presence stirred nostalgia among fans who fondly remember her performances in popular Bollywood films. As she exited the venue after the match, Sonal was asked about her favourite cricketer — and contrary to previous rumours linking her to KL Rahul, the actress confidently named Rohit Sharma as her all-time favourite.

Sonal’s show of support for the Mumbai Indians came on a night when Rohit Sharma once again proved why he’s a fan favourite. The former MI captain delivered a stunning performance, becoming only the fourth player in IPL history to hit 100 sixes at a single venue and the second MI player after Kieron Pollard to cross 250 sixes for the franchise. His brilliant display added to the excitement of the match and further won the hearts of fans and celebrities alike.

Bollywood actor Vikrant Massey, widely recognized for his role in ‘12th Fail,’ was in attendance during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 match between the Mumbai Indians (MI) and the SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH). The match was played on Thursday, April 17, at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Batting first, SRH posted 162/5 in 20 overs. Opener Abhishek Sharma top-scored with 40 runs off 28 balls. In response, MI comfortably chased down the target, securing a four-wicket victory with 11 balls to spare.

Meanwhile, before the match, MI’s veteran batter Rohit Sharma was honored with a special memento by BCCI President Roger Binny for being one of the few players to feature in every IPL season since its inception in 2008. Vikrant Massey shared a video of the moment on his Instagram Stories, calling Rohit his hero.

In addition, stands will also be named after legendary India captain Ajit Wadekar and former BCCI president Sharad Pawar as a tribute to their significant contributions to Indian cricket.

Rohit Sharma's struggles with the bat continue in IPL 2025

Former India player Aakash Chopra has wondered when Rohit Sharma would be back to his destructive best in IPL 2025. He noted that the Mumbai Indians (MI) opener got off to a flying start in their clash against the SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) but couldn't convert it into a substantial innings.

SRH set MI a 163-run target in Match 33 of IPL 2025 in Mumbai on Thursday, April 17. Rohit scored 26 runs off 16 deliveries in the chase as the home team achieved the target with four wickets and 11 balls to spare. Reflecting on MI's chase in their IPL 2025 clash against SRH, Chopra pointed out that Rohit got dismissed when he seemed headed to a big score.

In Mumbai's batting, there was a question again. Mumbai cha raja, kab bajayega baaja? That is a big question, but it's not happening. He got a six off the edge, and then he hit two excellent sixes. It seemed like things were going fine, and then he got out to a full toss," he said (4:00) in a video shared on his YouTube channel 'Aakash Chopra'.

Reflecting on the Mumbai Indians' bowling in their IPL 2025 clash against the SunRisers Hyderabad, Aakash Chopra praised Will Jacks (2/14 in three overs) for delivering a potent spell, but questioned Hardik Pandya for not using his spinners effectively.

"Will Jacks came in bowling. Where there is a will, there is a way. He picked up wickets. However, I am still surprised. It was a spin-friendly pitch and the ball was getting stuck, but Will Jacks didn't bowl his full quota of overs despite picking up two wickets, and (Mitchell) Santner bowled just one over," he said in the same video.

The analyst pointed out that while Jacks and Mitchell Santner (0/8 in 1 over) together bowled only four overs, the expensive Deepak Chahar and Hardik bowled their full quota."Two fast bowlers got hit, one was Deepak Chahar and the other was Hardik Pandya. Both conceded more than 40 runs, and they bowled four overs apiece. What happened wasn't understandable. Fours weren't hit off 15 full tosses," Chopra observed.

Ishan Kishan made his first return to the Wankhede Stadium after joining Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) for IPL 2025, ending a long stint with the Mumbai Indians (MI). The Indian Premier League, often known for its glamorous and high-stakes nature, is equally rich in emotions—on and off the field. Ishan’s appearance in the orange SRH jersey at his former home ground added a sentimental touch to the match.

Unfortunately, the homecoming didn’t go as planned for Ishan Kishan, who managed to score just 2 runs before being stumped by Ryan Rickelton. He had started his IPL 2025 campaign with a blistering century but has struggled with consistency in the matches that followed. The game on April 17 ended in a thrilling win for Mumbai Indians. After the match, during the customary handshake, Ishan walked up to Nita Ambani and greeted her warmly, receiving a gentle pat on the cheek in return—an emotional moment that reflected his deep connection with the franchise he once represented.

The MI vs SRH clash was further intensified by the unpredictable nature of the Wankhede pitch. SRH posted a modest total of 162/5, and despite the average target, the match remained competitive. Mumbai Indians eventually chased down the score, making Ishan’s return to his old ground bittersweet, marked by nostalgia, a tough outing with the bat, and an emotional post-match exchange.

Sunrisers Hyderabad have jolted thier playoffs qualifiaction chances

To stay in the hunt for the IPL 2025 playoffs, Sunrisers Hyderabad need to win at least six of their remaining seven league games. Securing 16 points would place them in strong contention for a top-four finish. However, simply winning may not be enough. SRH must focus on achieving dominant wins to improve their Net Run Rate (NRR), which often plays a deciding role when multiple teams are tied on points.

In addition to winning matches, SRH must address their inconsistency, particularly in the batting department. While their bowling unit has delivered promising performances, the batters have struggled to provide reliable support. To turn their season around, the team needs a more balanced showing from both ends. Every player’s contribution will be vital as the team enters a decisive phase. By building momentum through consistent performances and improving their NRR along the way, Sunrisers Hyderabad can still carve out a path to the playoffs, even after a shaky start to their campaign.

The IPL 2025 clash between Mumbai Indians and Sunrisers Hyderabad took place at the Wankhede Stadium, with MI winning the toss and opting to bowl first. The decision proved wise as the pitch offered challenges for the batters. Sunrisers Hyderabad struggled to build momentum, finding it tough to rotate the strike and put up a dominant score. Mumbai’s disciplined bowling attack kept the pressure on, restricting scoring opportunities and capitalizing on the conditions effectively.

Among SRH’s batters, Abhishek Sharma and Heinrich Klaasen were the only ones who looked relatively comfortable at the crease. Abhishek, coming off a century in the previous match against Punjab Kings, was expected to deliver big. However, he could only manage 40 runs off 28 balls, which included seven boundaries. Klaasen also tried to stabilize the innings, but the overall team performance with the bat lacked the spark needed to put up a massive total.

A light-hearted moment added some humor to the intense contest. During the match, Suryakumar Yadav was seen checking Abhishek Sharma’s pockets in a playful manner, seemingly searching for a hidden cheat sheet. The amusing interaction between the two players drew laughter and was a refreshing break from the high-stakes action on the field.

History about the incident

Abhishek Sharma, who recently scored a century against Punjab Kings, celebrated the milestone in a unique way by pulling out a chit from his pocket and showing it to the camera. The note read, "This one's for Orange Army," making it one of the most memorable celebrations in IPL history. His gesture was widely appreciated, highlighting his emotional connection with the fans and dedication to the Sunrisers Hyderabad team.

Interestingly, Abhishek’s opening partner Travis Head revealed that he had been carrying that chit in his pocket throughout all seven matches of the season. This fun detail added a layer of intrigue to the recent clash at Wankhede. During the game, Suryakumar Yadav was seen playfully checking Abhishek’s pockets, seemingly curious to see if the chit made another appearance. The light-hearted moment between the two players brought some comic relief and was enjoyed by fans and viewers alike.
