Suryakumar Yadav has disclosed his experiences with nerves prior to his first match as a Mumbai Indian player in the 2012 IPL season. With the right-hander ready to discuss MI’s important clash with the Rajasthan Royals, he has recounted memorable moments from over a decade ago.

So much so that he could not sleep; for Surya, the night prior to his debut was one filled with excitement. “I went to bed around 4 or 5 in the morning.” “Playing for a franchise brings a different kind of buzz. At that moment, stepping out for warmups caused stress, but once I was on the field for warmups, I couldn’t stop sweating, and it felt amazing.”

But everything fell apart at his debut match against Pune Warriors India (PWI) in 2012. Surya suffered an unfortunate four-ball duck from Marlon Samuels and after this was not selected for the team until the following season, 2013. After this he was traded to KKR in 2014, where he played a pivotal role in their title-winning campaign.

Surya - A Pillar for MI and a Key Player in IPL 2025

Suryakumar, the franchise's cornerstone as of 2018, made his return to MI in 2018. He guided MI to titles in 2019 and 2020, maintaining his performance through the years.

He currently plays IPL 2025 and proves his worth with the bat yet again. Surya currently resides third in the Orange Cap race, having scored 427 runs in 10 matches, averaging 61, with a strike rate near 170. Surya's consistency and forming the scoring of at least 25 in every match-up to now have ensured MI's recovery after a rough start to the season, losing 4/5 games in a row and winning 5 straight, leading them to 3rd on the points table.

Suryakumar Yadav is set in the spotlight as Surya heads out with his team in the much zealous game against Rajasthan Royals set to play on Jaipur turf tonight.

Mumbai Indians (MI) have confirmed that talented left-arm wristspinner Vignesh Puthur has been ruled out of the rest of IPL 2025 after suffering bone stress reactions in both his shins. In his stead, the franchise has signed uncapped legspinner Raghu Sharma, who makes his first foray into the Indian Premier League.

Puthur, who made an impressive debut earlier this season, caught attention with a three-wicket haul against Chennai Super Kings. In his five matches for MI, he picked up six wickets with an economy rate of 9.08. Despite the setback, the franchise confirmed that Puthur will stay on with the squad to continue his rehabilitation under the supervision of the Mumbai Indians’ medical and strength & conditioning team.

"Vignesh will continue to be with the team to focus on his recovery and rehabilitation," MI stated. The 23-year-old, son of an auto-rickshaw driver, was one of MI’s standout rookie stories this season and quickly became a fan favorite.

Sharma Joins Mumbai Indians Squad Ahead of Crucial Matches

Taking his place in the squad is 32-year-old Raghu Sharma, a right-arm leg-break bowler from Jalandhar, Punjab. Sharma has previously represented Punjab and Puducherry in domestic cricket. Though this is his first official IPL stint, he has been part of the Mumbai Indians' net bowling group and joins the main squad at his base price of INR 30 lakh.

With solid domestic credentials, Sharma brings experience to the side. In 11 first-class matches, he has claimed 57 wickets at an average of 19.59, including best bowling figures of 7 for 56. In the List A format, he has 14 wickets from nine games, and in the T20 format, he has three wickets from as many appearances.

MI have turned their season around after a sluggish start, having now won five consecutive matches and climbing to third on the points table with 12 points from ten games. With Sharma coming in, the team will be hoping to maintain their winning momentum as they head toward the business end of the tournament.

Surya Eyes Another Record for Mumbai Indians

If Suryakumar Yadav gets a minimum of 54 in this IPL 2025 match, he will surpass Kieron Pollard's 3412 runs and become the second-highest run scorer for the Mumbai Indians in IPL history. Currently, Rohit Sharma is first with 5698 runs from 221 matches, including 2 hundreds and 37 fifties, and a career with MI. Surya too has played with Kolkata Knight Riders and so far has become one of the MI greats due to the eye-catching batting and dominance of matches from previous IPL seasons.

There are times when success comes quickly, and his success has indeed come quickly over time. For sure, Surya's feats say that none of his success is by coincidence - this is a combination of the player's determination, creativity, and a strong work ethic, which comes through their commitment and a lot of hard work. There will be many matches to play yet in this season, and there will be even more records that will fall, and Surya will continue to be recognized in IPL history.

The IPL is known for creating superstars and delivering unforgettable performances, but every season also sees its share of underwhelming displays — especially from those expected to shine. IPL 2025 has been no different. While some players have risen to the occasion, a few big names have failed to live up to their billing, letting down fans and franchises alike. From misfiring batters to bowlers lacking impact, these players have struggled to find form, consistency, or match-winning influence. With the playoff race heating up, their poor performances have become glaring. Here's a look at the IPL 2025 Flop XI — a team composed of some of the biggest disappointments so far, proving that reputation alone doesn't guarantee success in the IPL arena;

Top Order

The openers for Flop XI will be Quinton De Kock and Rohit Sharma. Quinton de Kock has played 7 matches in IPL 2025, scoring 143 runs at an average of 23.83 and a strike rate of 137.50. His highest score is an unbeaten 97, and he has registered one half-century so far, hitting 9 fours and 11 sixes across his innings. On the other hand, Rohit Sharma has featured in 7 matches so far in IPL 2025 but has managed just one notable knock — an unbeaten 76*. With a total of 158 runs at an average of 26.33 and a strike rate of 154.90, his form has been underwhelming, despite his lone impactful innings. The number three spot will be of Rahul Tripathi has played 5 matches in IPL 2025, scoring just 55 runs at a disappointing average of 11.00 and a strike rate of 96.49. With a highest score of 23 and no major contributions, his form has been underwhelming, managing only 6 fours and 1 six across his outings.

Middle Order and All-rounders

The number four spot will be taken by Venkatesh Iyer. Iyer was one of the most expensive picks in the IPL auction, but his performances so far haven’t lived up to the hype. In 8 matches, he has played 6 innings, scoring 135 runs at an average of 22.50 and a strike rate of 139.17. Despite one half-century, consistency is missing. The number five spot will be taken in by Nitish Kumar Reddy Reddy has failed to leave a strong impact in IPL 2025. In 7 games, he’s played 6 innings, scoring 131 runs at an average of 21.83 and a strike rate of 113.91. With a top score of just 32 and no half-centuries, consistency has been missing. The number six spot will be taken by Rishabh Pant. Pant was the most expensive player of IPL 2025 at ₹27 crores, has failed to justify his price tag. In 9 matches, he has scored just 106 runs across 8 innings, with a below-par average of 13.25 and a strike rate of 96.36. His only notable knock was a 63-run effort.

The number seven spot will be taken by Glenn Maxwell. Maxwell has had a forgettable IPL 2025 so far. In 6 matches, he’s batted in 5 innings and managed to score just 41 runs, averaging a disappointing 8.20 with a strike rate of 100.00. With no fifties and only one six to his name, the Aussie star has struggled for form. The number eighth will be taken in by Liam Livingstone. Livingstone, too, hasn’t delivered up to expectations. In 7 matches and 6 innings, he’s managed only 87 runs, averaging 17.40 with a strike rate of 127.94. Despite having a fifty to his name, his overall returns have been underwhelming for a player of his caliber.

Bowlers

Mohammed Shami has had a forgettable IPL 2025 so far. In 7 matches, he has bowled 24 overs, conceding 261 runs and picking up just 5 wickets. With a high average of 52.20 and an economy rate of 10.87, his best figures stand at 2/28. He's struggled to make any real impact this season. Matheesha Pathirana has been expensive and inconsistent in IPL 2025. In 6 matches, he has bowled 21.4 overs, conceding 226 runs while taking 7 wickets. With an average of 32.28 and an economy rate of 10.43, his best figures are 2/28. Despite flashes of brilliance, he's struggled to maintain control and impact. Ravichandran Ashwin has had a forgettable IPL 2025 so far. In 7 matches, he has bowled 24 overs, conceding 223 runs and picking up just 5 wickets. With a high bowling average of 44.60 and an economy rate of 9.29, his best figures this season are 2/48, reflecting his underwhelming form.

Rohit Sharma's Emotional Dugout Moment Set Internet on Fire After MI's Last IPL 2025 Match

While playing their last IPL 2025 match, Mumbai Indians saw an unplanned and wonderful moment between Rohit Sharma with a young player named Mhatre where he worked hard for a candid response that fans absolutely loved. This brief moment which was filmed near the dugout area after the game, for everyone, reinforced that cricket is not just a game with scores, but experiences, memories and relationships with respect amongst players.

"We Played Together in Ranji Trophy" - Rohit's Genuine Connection

The video starts with Mhatre running up to Rohit in awe, as he greets him "well played yaar". Suryakumar Yadav (Sky) who also had a smile on his face standing beside said, "He wanted to meet you, means Rohit Sharma". What took place next, was a moment that made every fan feel something - Rohit replied firstly, like a true gentleman, saying "We played together in Ranji Trophy".

This almost blunt sentence statement revealed Rohit's humility. Even though he is one of the biggest cricketing stars in the world, he made it his mission to identify and acknowledge a fellow cricketer he had played with in his domestic cricket past. The statement not only came as a surprise to Mhatre but also, won over any social media observers. Also, it reminded everybody that legends never forget their journey and always respect history.

How to Play the Pull Shot?” - A Mildly Surprising Question, A Gentle Smile

Mhatre didn't just stop at a greeting, as he took advantage of a great opportunity to learn from one of the very best, asking the question, “How to play the pull shot from here?" - referring to the angle of the wicket or how it was delivered.. Rohit, who is universally renowned for his effortless elegance and exquisite power through the pull shot, smiled gently not knowing whether to laugh or give a genuine answer

While the fun to see how Rohit's response played, there was something very symbolic in this moment, crowning IPL for what it is: a space for young talent to learn. Rohit's humility and Mhatre's sincere curiosity were channeling beautiful teacher-student energy at that moment, showing fans that as much pressure as those moments have, there is always room for learners and, of course, teachers.

This simple exchange - a shared sense of respect, remembrance, and mentorship - mattered to us more than all the boundaries, or wickets. We were reminded why Test match fans loved this game, not just for the madness that's in and intensity of the atmosphere, but for the relationships this game builds. And, once more, Rohit Sharma meant it: his greatness isn't just in what he does off the field, but off it!

In match 38 of the IPL 2025, Mumbai Indians (MI) delivered a commanding performance to defeat Chennai Super Kings (CSK) by nine wickets on April 20, 2025, at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

Chennai Super Kings Innings

CSK, batting first, fought their way to a reasonable score of 176/5. They were led by an unbeaten 53 from Ravindra Jadeja, who did not detract from CSK upon the end of his innings off 35 balls, along with some aggressive support from Shivam Dube (50 runs from 32 balls) and Ayush Mhatre, who gave momentum to CSK's innings with 32 runs from just 15 balls in the end. With this solid foundation, their innings could have turned out better had they been allowed to dominate a disciplined Mumbai bowling line-up. Jasprit Bumrah was the best for the Mumbai Indians (2/25 in 4 overs). Mitchell Santner was tidy enough to allow just 14 runs (1/14 in 3 overs), while Deepak Chahar was reasonable for just 32 in 4 overs (1 wicket).

Mumbai Indians Innings

MI chased down 177 in a timely manner, securing 177/1 in just 15.4 overs. They were led by the consummate performance of the captain, Rohit Sharma, whose innings finished with 76* (off 45 balls), and in high-impact fashion was supported well by Suryakumar Yadav (68* from 30 balls). Together they put together a match-winning partnership, after Ryan Rickelton, had provided a good start of 24 runs from 19 balls. Chennai's bowling enjoyed some success but was sold on the fact that they only took just one wicket—Ravindra Jadeja dismissing Rickelton. However, the rest of the bowlers, including Khaleel Ahmed (0/24 in 2) and Ravichandran Ashwin (0/25 in 4), struggled to contain the onslaught from the MI batters.

MI vs CSK: Post Match Reactions

Rohit Sharma (Player of the Match): Rohit Sharma, who led the run chase with a brilliant 76*, discussed the need for backing yourself through bad times. “Every time you doubt yourself, you apply pressure. I just kept practicing hard and focused on clarity,” he said. It was a touching moment, for Sharma reflected on hitting near a stand that is going to have his name on it and thought back to the fact he wasn’t allowed into the stadium as a kid.

Hardik Pandya (MI Captain): Hardik complimented the smart way the team was able to execute their plan and commended Rohit and Suryakumar for their dominance at the crease. "When Rohit comes good, the opposition teams are in trouble," he said. He also felt that MI is learning from their previous losses and sticking to the basics to good effect. Commenting about his bowlers, he felt that the total target of 175-180 was always chaseable in the conditions.

Suryakumar Yadav (MI): Suryakumar Yadav, who smashed an impressive 68*, was pleased to bat at No. 3. He gave thanks to Rohit for his support and for playing on Mumbai's red soil pitches, which allowed him to develop his sweeping skills. "I just felt like it was my day and just expressed myself." He reminded us that one should always play with freedom and expect to take the risks on the field.

MS Dhoni (CSK Captain): Dhoni conceded CSK did not show up, and he applauded Ayush Mhatre's aggressive knock but thought they fell short, likely on the acceleration at an earlier point. "175 was never a par score here," he said. He challenged the team to be realistic when they make mistakes, fix them, and then ensure they have a settled XI for consistency in the next matches.
