Mohammed Amir, the left-arm experienced Pakistan pacer, has always been a vital member of the shortest format. He has the skill to pick up wickets with the new ball inside the powerplay and create problems for the opponent batters in the death overs, using the yorkers and the change of pace. And he continued the same during the ongoing Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2025.

During the recent game for the Trinbago Knight Riders, Mohammed Amir celebrated a great record in the shortest format of the game. It was the third ball of the 19th over of the first innings from the left-arm pacer as Fabian Allen drilled the ball away from his arc, aiming for a huge boundary.

But the right-handed batter didn’t get the elevation on the bat as Darren Bravo picked a fine catch. That was Amir’s first wicket of the evening, and he became the ninth bowler in the T20s to cross the 400-mark in the wickets column. He also became the second bowler from Pakistan for the celebration, as Wahab Riaz stands above him with 413 wickets in 344 innings.

The 33-year-old has overall picked up 71 T20I wickets in 61 innings at an average of under 22 and a strike rate of 18.6 with the best figures of 4/13 in an innings. Overall, the left-arm pacer has recorded 400 wickets in 336 innings at an average of 22.54 and a strike rate of 18.4 with an economy rate of 7.33, with eight four-wicket hauls and two five-wicket hauls.

The home side, Antigua and Barbuda Falcons, during the CPL 2025 clash, posted 167/6 on the board with Allen putting 45 runs in 20 balls and Imad Wasim remaining unbeaten on 39 runs in 27 balls. That looked like a decent score on the surface at the Vivian Richards Stadium in Antigua.

Trinbago wasn’t consistent in the chase. Colin Muro played a crucial knock of 44 runs in 18 balls, while Kieron Pollard remained unbeaten on 43 runs in 28 balls. But Pollard’s knock wasn’t enough to chase down the target as they faced an eight-run defeat.

Looking to recover from a patchy spell of performances in past seasons, TKR has retained a solid core and strengthened with proven overseas players to support their title quest. The revelation came during the CPL draft that took place on June 18, providing fans with a first-hand glimpse at the squads of all six teams.

Knight Riders have held on to T20 veterans like Kieron Pollard, Andre Russell, Sunil Narine, Nicholas Pooran, and Akeal Hosein to ensure leadership and experience do not get affected.
Their foreign roster is comprised of the likes of Alex Hales, Mohammad Amir, Colin Munro, Usman Tariq, and Ali Khan, which provides them with strength and depth in all departments. Amir says he would choose IPL over PSL if given the chance

Former Pakistan fast bowler Mohammad Amir has sparked buzz in the cricket world with his candid admission that he would choose the Indian Premier League (IPL) over the Pakistan Super League (PSL) if given the chance. Speaking on the Quetta Gladiators’ podcast, Amir said that if both leagues were to run at the same time in the future and he became eligible to play in the IPL as a British citizen, he would prefer the IPL without hesitation. “Honestly, if I get the opportunity, I’ll definitely play in the IPL. I’m saying this openly. But if I don’t get a chance, then I will play in the PSL,” Amir stated. The 32-year-old, who retired from international cricket in 2020, currently plays for Quetta Gladiators and revealed that he expects to be eligible for IPL selection by 2026. He also expressed a desire to play for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), a team he believes suits his style and where his experience could prove valuable.

Backing Amir’s wish, fellow Pakistani cricketer Ahmed Shehzad said RCB would benefit from having a bowler like Amir in their lineup, especially given their longstanding struggles with bowling. “RCB needs a bowler like Amir to fix their bowling woes. If Amir plays for RCB, they will win the title,” Shehzad said during the same podcast. Due to ongoing political tensions between India and Pakistan, players from Pakistan have not featured in the IPL since its inaugural season in 2008, with Azhar Mahmood being the lone exception by playing as a UK citizen. Until the possibility of playing in the IPL becomes a reality, Amir will focus on the Pakistan Super League, which kicks off its 10th edition on April 11.

<![CDATA[WATCH: Mohammad Amir charges towards Viv Richards after dismissing Babar Azam in PSL 10]]> https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/watch-mohammad-amir-charges-towards-viv-richards-after-dismissing-babar-azam-in-psl-10/ https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/watch-mohammad-amir-charges-towards-viv-richards-after-dismissing-babar-azam-in-psl-10/ Mon, 28 Apr 2025 15:38:29 GMT

While the Indian Premier League remains the most followed T20 league in the world, the Pakistan Super League on the other side of the border is laying down some first-class cricket. The timeless charm of these leagues lies in the way they make their teammates compete against one another. Last night, in Delhi, KL Rahul was competing against Virat Kohli, and the two had a slight face-off in the middle. Likewise, in the PSL as well, two of cricketing great names of Pakistan faced each other when Mohammad Amir bowled against Babar Azam in the match between Quetta Gladiators and Peshawar Zalmi on Sunday.

Amir tested Babar severely. Amir bowled four balls to Babar, all of which tested the former Pakistan skipper. Amir's first delivery was a bouncer, hitting Babar flush on the crash helmet. The batter took a concussion test, but there was no relief. Babar could manage just one off Amir's bowling before he got out. A wicked inswinger from the left-arm pacer struck Babar on the pads, and the batter was stone dead. Up went the finger in a flash, and Babar began his walk back.

But Amir's celebration was the icing on the cake. The experienced pacer was ecstatic and rushed to the dugout of the Gladiators, where mentor Viv Richards was sitting. Amir waved his hand at Richards in joy over the wicket, but the West Indies icon advised him to remain cool, relax and keep it up. Amir ended with 1/18 but it was his teammate Faheem Ashraf, who stole all the limelight with a five-wicket-haul. Faheem picked up 5/33 off 3.3 overs as the Gladiators defeated Zalmi by a massive 64 runs. Babar, who has 117 runs, is not even among the top 10 list of highest run-getters in PSL 2025, while Amir is 12th with 7 wickets. For their teams, Zalmi is not doing well, being fourth with two wins out of six matches. The Gladiators are better off than Zalmi but still at third position with six points are not yet out of the woods.

Viv Richards backs Babar Azam

The West Indian legend said that Babar Azam would soon find his rhythm again. He said that a king is a monarch who reigns supreme and, regardless of how great a batter is, everyone experiences a dip in form. Richards mentioned that this was not the first time Babar was going through such a phase and expressed confidence that Babar, being an excellent player, would return to form very soon. He added that players like Kohli and Babar do justice to the game of cricket.

"Babar Azam will also get into his rhythm soon. A king is a monarch who reigns supreme. Regardless of how great a batter you are, every one experiences a dip in form. This is not the first time he is experiencing such a phase. Babar is an excellent player. I am confident he will return to form very soon. I think when you see players like Kohli and Babar, they seem to do justice to the game of cricket," Richards said.

Pakistani pacer Mohammad Amir drops a huge statement about the Indian Premier League. The pacer relayed that if he gets the opportunity to choose between the Pakistan Super League (PSL) and the Indian Premier League (IPL), he will pick IPL over PSL.

The tenth edition of the Pakistan Super League is in full swing parallel to the IPL. Mohammad Amir is now playing for Quetta Gladiators; the team is currently lying in the 5th spot of the 6-team tournament. The former Pakistan fast bowler claimed that by next year, he'll have the opportunity to participate in IPL.

"If I get the opportunity, I'll definitely play in the IPL. I'm saying this openly. But if I don't get a chance, then I will play in the PSL. By next year, I will have the opportunity to play in the IPL, and if given the chance, then why not? I will play in the IPL," Mohammad Amir said openly.

Amir is even eager to try his luck in next year's IPL auction. He strongly believes that if the schedules of both franchise leagues avoid clashing, then he can straightaway wish to play in India's cash-rich franchise league.

No bilateral series between India and Pakistan

According to him, "If I get picked in IPL first, then I can't pull out from that league as well. Now, it depends on which league I get picked in first. If the IPL auction happens first and I get picked, then I can't pull off and will not play in the PSL. And if the PSL draft takes place first, and I get picked, then I can't pull out from the tournament."

Amir's desire to play in the Indian Premier League may not be fulfilled, especially after the terror attack in Pahalgam, Kashmir, where terrorists claimed the lives of more than 26 Indians. BCCI made their stance clear— no bilateral series between India and Pakistan.

Mohammad Amir surprised everyone in the clash between Karachi Kings and Quetta Gladiators during PSL 2025 in Karachi, showing unexpected fireworks. The cricket world is well acquainted with Mohammad Amir’s fiery spells, ripping through stumps and nailing pinpoint yorkers. But Friday night in Karachi offered a twist—a glimpse of Amir the fighter with the bat. With Quetta Gladiators collapsing in their chase against Karachi Kings, Amir walked in at 57/7, a moment when the game looked lost. Yet, instead of merely hanging around, the left-arm pacer swung hard and delivered a surprising counterattack that thrilled the crowd and reignited fading hopes.

Amir’s intent was clear during the 15th over, bowled by Khushdil Shah. On the third delivery, he muscled a boundary to midwicket. Without hesitation, he danced down the track on the next ball and sent it soaring over deep mid-wicket for a maximum. To top it off, he smashed a towering six over long-on on the final ball of the over, turning what looked like a dull finish into an electrifying sequence of power hitting.

In just 16 deliveries, Mohammad Amir lit up the stadium with a fiery 30-run knock, decorated with two boundaries and three sixes. Though the match didn’t swing back in Quetta’s favour, Amir’s resistance stood out. It reminded everyone that whether with ball or bat, Amir brings flair and drama every time he steps onto the field. His late-innings fireworks were a testament to his competitive spirit and refusal to go down quietly.

Not only with bat but Amir was lethal with ball also

Earlier in the evening, Mohammad Amir showcased his bowling brilliance once again, delivering early breakthroughs during the powerplay. He picked up the key wickets of James Vince, who was in fine form with a 70-run knock, and Mohammad Nabi, who added a quick 18. Amir ended with figures of 2/42 in his four-over spell, doing his part to restrict the flow of runs, even as Karachi Kings managed to post a competitive 175/7.

Despite Amir’s efforts with both bat and ball, Quetta Gladiators were never truly in the contest. Karachi Kings dominated the match and sealed a comfortable 56-run win. However, for Quetta fans, the silver lining was Amir’s fighting spirit. His late cameo with the bat and determination on the field offered a glimpse of grit and resilience—qualities that can inspire the team as they look to bounce back in the upcoming fixtures.

PSL 2025 Tensions: Mohammad Amir and Saim Ayub in Field Controversy File pictures have already given a ton of drama in the 2025 Pakistan Super League (PSL) season. A fiery skirmish between Quetta Gladiators' Mohammad Amir and Peshawar Zalmi's Saim Ayub was the headline in the second match of the tournament.

The incident, which occurred during Peshawar Zalmi’s chase of a daunting 217-run target set by Quetta Gladiators, has sparked widespread discussion among cricket fans. In one viral video, it was observed when Amir and Ayub argued at length with each other on the field with Zalmi on 0/0 runs during the start of their inning.

The confrontation erupted in the first over, bowled by Mohammad Amir, who was eager to make an instant impression for the Quetta Gladiators. Saim Ayub, batting at the top with captain Babar Azam, seemed to exchange words with Amir, resulting in a tense confrontation. The clip depicts Ayub, wearing his yellow Zalmi jersey, turning to confront Amir, who seemed to be infuriated. Though the precise words spoken are unknown, the charge of the moment was evident, with both players refusing to back down before the umpire came along and put an end to the confrontation. For Peshawar Zalmi, however, the theatrics appeared to serve as an interruption to concentration, as the head of Babar Azam popped up on the last ball of the over when sent packing by Amir on a two-ball duck.

This is not the first time the PSL has seen on-field confrontation. In 2016, there was a similar altercation between Wahab Riaz and Ahmed Shehzad during a match between Quetta Gladiators and Peshawar Zalmi, which hit the headlines due to the strong rivalries within the league. Amir and Ayub, both having been promoted recently to the platinum category prior to the PSL 2025 draft, had a lot to play for since they were eager to demonstrate their value in this high-stakes game.

Impact on the Match and Beyond

The clash had an instant impact, with Babar Azam's early exit leaving Peshawar Zalmi reeling in their pursuit. The fans and pundits are now making predictions about whether this event will result in additional disciplinary action from the authorities of the PSL, with the league seeking to uphold its image for competitive but equitable play.

Saud Shakeel (c) is a control and calm batter to the top order in the team. While others go big, his role is to hold things together, keep the scoreboard ticking, and guide the innings. He’s there to anchor, rotate the strike, and make sure the team doesn’t lose quick wickets.

Mohammad Amir is a Left-arm Fast bowler, a master of swing and variations. Mohammad Amir brings both experience and skill to the bowling. With his ability to move the new ball sharply, he is expected to open the attack and bowl two incisive overs early on, targeting quick breakthroughs.

Abrar Ahmad is a crucial player in the middle overs for his team, especially with his right-arm mystery spin. His role is specifically designed to bowl tight and get the opposition in trouble by picking key wickets in the middle overs, thereby preventing the batting side from building partnerships.

Mohammad Zeeshan brings extreme pace and natural bounce to his team. By using his height, he can generate pace and bounce, making life difficult for batters. As a local youngster, Zeeshan is expected to bowl with intensity and aggression. If utilized effectively as a first-change or death-over bowler, he has the potential to surprise many with his sharp bounce and pinpoint accuracy.
