The top two teams secured their spots for the playoffs, while Mumbai Indians are still mathematically alive in the Women’s Premier League 2026 playoff race, but their fate depends heavily on other results—particularly the outcome of the Delhi Capitals vs UP Warriorz clash. Despite their recent defeat to Gujarat Giants, Harmanpreet Kaur’s side can still sneak into the Eliminator if scenarios align in their favor.

Current Standings

Mumbai Indians – 6 points, NRR: +0.059

Delhi Capitals – 6 points, NRR: -0.164

UP Warriorz – 6 points, NRR: -1.146

Qualification Scenarios

1: Dependence on DC vs UPW Result

If UP Warriorz beat Delhi Capitals then Mumbai Indians will remain in the top three and qualify for the Eliminator.

If Delhi Capitals beat UP Warriorz by a slightly big margin then MI will be eliminated.

2: Net Run Rate Factor

MI’s qualification is not just about points but also net run rate (NRR).

If UP Warriorz beat Delhi Capitals then all three teams could still finish with 6 points.

In that case, Mumbai Indians superior net run rate (0.059 vs Delhi’s lower NRR) would give them the edge to qualify for the Eliminator.

The margin of Delhi’s win matters — a big win could push their NRR above MI’s, eliminating Mumbai, but a narrow win keeps MI’s chances alive.

https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-analysis/top-5-players-to-watch-out-for-ahead-of-t20-world-cup-2026/

Practically, UP Warriorz’s qualification is extremely unlikely. To surpass Mumbai Indians net run rate, they not only need to beat Delhi Capitals but must do so by an improbable margin of around 156 runs — a feat that has never been achieved in WPL history.

Conclusion

The Mumbai Indians had a chance to qualify directly without relying on any other team, but they fumbled in a crucial game against Gujarat Giants (GG). MI lost that match, and GG won their first-ever game against MI in WPL history, leaving Mumbai to depend on other teams results.

This dramatic finish underscores the fine margins in WPL 2026 and highlights how crucial every match, every run, and every over can be in shaping playoff hopes.

So, the path to Mumbai’s qualification is simple, hope UP Warriorz beats Delhi.

Gujarat Giants Women claimed a crucial win against the defending champions Mumbai Indians Women to secure the second spot in the WPL 2026 points table with 10 points after eight games to advance to the Eliminator. In the Eliminator, they will face the third-placed team, for which MI Women (6 points in eight matches with +0.059 net run rate) are fighting with Delhi Capitals Women (6 points in seven games with -0.164 net run rate) and UP Warriorz Women (4 points in seven matches with -1.146 net run rate). The Eliminator winners will face RCB Women (12 points) in the Final of the season.

After Gujarat Giants Women chose to bat first at Vadodara on Friday night (January 30), they scored 167/4 in 20 overs. In reply, MI Women were restricted to 156/7 in 20 overs, as Gujarat Giants won by 11 runs. It was the first-ever win for Gujarat Giants Women against Mumbai Indians Women, and it became more special, as they have qualified for the Eliminator with this win.

WPL 2026: Points Table, Leading run scorers and wicket takers after GGW vs MIW match 19

WPL 2026, Match 19: GG Women vs MI Women - Ashleigh Gardner and Georgia Wareham scored crucial 40s

Gujarat Giants opener Sophie Devine and Anushka Sharma had a 48-run partnership for the second wicket. While Devine scored 25 runs, Anushka scored 33 runs. Then skipper Ashleigh Gardner and Georgia Wareham scored crucial 40s with a 71-run partnership for the third wicket.

While Gardner scored 48 off 28 balls with seven fours and one six, Georgia scored 44 not out off 26 balls with four fours and two sixes.

WPL 2026, Match 19: GG Women vs MI Women - Captain Harmanpreet Kaur fought hard

In reply, captain Harmanpreet Kaur provided a strong fight back, but she hardly got any proper support, as the defending champions failed to secure a crucial victory in the game. In-form Kaur scored 82 not out off 48 balls with eight fours and four sixes. Only opener Sajeevan Sajana (26) and the middle-order Amelia Kerr (20) were the other batters to manage the 20-run mark in that innings.

Among the Gujarat Giants bowlers, Sophie Devine (2/23) and Georgia Wareham (2/26) bagged two wickets each, which powered the team to a crucial win.

Gujarat Giants finally exorcised their Mumbai Indians demons when it mattered most, edging past the defending champions by 11 runs in a tense Women’s Premier League clash at the Kotambi Stadium in Vadodara on Friday. The victory, their first over Mumbai in nine attempts, confirmed Gujarat’s place in the Eliminator and sealed second spot on the league table.

Chasing 168, Mumbai were never quite allowed to settle despite a valiant effort from Harmanpreet Kaur, who once again underlined her reputation as a big-match player. Walking in with her side wobbling at 37 for three, the MI skipper fought a lone battle, compiling an unbeaten 82 off 48 balls. However, with little support from the other end, the task eventually proved too steep.

Earlier in the evening, Gujarat built their innings around a decisive middle-order partnership. After Beth Mooney fell early and Sophie Devine was dismissed just as she looked set, the Giants found themselves needing stability. That came through captain Ashleigh Gardner and Georgia Wareham, who stitched together a crucial 71-run stand.

Gujarat finally conquer Mumbai in must-win WPL 2026 clash

Gardner played the aggressor’s role, striking 46 off 28 deliveries to keep the scoreboard moving, while Wareham timed her acceleration to perfection. Her unbeaten 44 off 26 balls ensured Gujarat finished strongly, lifting them to a competitive 167 for four on a surface that offered little margin for error while chasing.

Mumbai’s reply began on a scratchy note, with early wickets putting pressure on the middle order. Amelia Kerr briefly supported Harmanpreet in a 45-run stand, but her dismissal midway through the chase tilted the balance firmly in Gujarat’s favour. Devine and Wareham led the bowling effort with two wickets apiece, while the Giants held their nerve in the closing overs to deny Harmanpreet a miraculous finish.

With Royal Challengers Bengaluru already through to the final, Gujarat’s win leaves Mumbai’s playoff fate dependent on the final league match between Delhi Capitals and UP Warriorz. For the Giants, though, Friday night was about more than qualification - it was a long-awaited breakthrough against their toughest rivals.

English all-rounder and captain Nat Sciver-Brunt created history during the 16th match of the WPL 2026 between RCB Women and MI Women, where she became the first batter in the tournament's history to record a century.

WPL 2026: MI Women scored 199/4 against RCB Women

After RCB Women chose to field first, the defending champions MI Women managed to slam 199/4 in 20 overs. The no.3 batter Nat Sciver-Brunt hit her first T20 century, which created history in the Women's Premier League, as it was the first WPL century.

Sciver-Brunt came to bat in the third over, after the MI opener Sajeevan Sajana was dismissed for seven runs. The English star had a 131-run partnership with the opener Hayley Matthews for the second wicket. While Matthews completed 50 runs in 34 balls, Sciver-Brunt earlier completed her 50 runs in 32 balls.

Although Matthews was dismissed for 56 off 39 balls with nine fours, Sciver-Brunt continued her strong batting performance till the final moment of the innings.

Nat Sciver-Brunt became first to hit WPL century

In the final over of the innings, Sciver-Brunt needed one more run to become the first centurion of WPL. On the fourth ball of that over, which was her second ball facing in that over, Sciver-Brunt took a single to create WPL history. The first WPL century was recorded in 57 balls, as the English legend remained not out for 100 off 57 balls with 16 fours and one six.

Before this knock, the WPL experienced 10 90+ scores, which all failed to reach the three-figure mark. Even Sophie Devine was the first batter to score 99 runs in the WPL 2023, while Georgia Voll scored 99 not out last season. Finally, the WPL century is over; as it was the 11th time lucky.

Delhi Capitals Women will face Mumbai Indians Women in Match 13 of the WPL 2026 at the BCA Stadium in Vadodara on Tuesday, January 20. The Capitals have endured a difficult campaign so far and currently sit at the bottom of the points table. With three losses in four matches, their lone bright moment came in a victory over UP Warriorz. In their latest outing, the Jemimah Rodrigues-led side struggled to find momentum and suffered an eight-wicket defeat against a dominant Royal Challengers Bengaluru Women outfit.

Mumbai Indians Women, meanwhile, have had a mixed season with two wins and three losses from their five matches. Despite showing flashes of quality, consistency has eluded them at crucial moments. The Harmanpreet Kaur-led side enter this contest under pressure after back-to-back defeats against UP Warriorz, which halted their progress on the points table. With the tournament moving into an important phase, MI will be keen to regroup quickly, iron out their shortcomings, and deliver a strong performance against the Capitals to revive their campaign.
