Mushfiqur Rahim continues to make history. The experienced Bangladeshi cricketer scored his 13th Test century on Thursday in the ongoing second Test against Ireland at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka. With this, Rahim became only the 11th Test player in history to score a century in his 100th international match.

Rahim Joins Elite 100-Test Club

Rahim had already made history on Wednesday when he became the first Bangladeshi cricketer to play 100 Test matches. By scoring a century, he joined an exclusive group of players who achieved this milestone in their 100th Test.

Rahim’s Felicitation

Before the start of the second Test in Dhaka, Rahim was honoured for his achievement. He received two jerseys – one signed by his teammates from his debut Test and another by the current Test squad.

However, Mushfiqur could not go much further after his century. He was caught by Balbirnie off the first ball of Humphries in the 99th over. Mushfiqur played an innings of 106 runs off 214 balls with 5 fours. When he returned to the dressing room, the gallery at Sher-e-Bangla Stadium erupted in applause.

The former Bangladesh captain, Mushfiqur Rahim, has become the first Bangladesh player to feature in 100 Tests as he takes the field during the second Test against Ireland in Mirpur. One of the long-time servants of the country, the right-handed batter made his debut in 2005, making him the youngest debutant at Lord’s- a record that still stands. He captained the side in 34 Tests and kept wickets in 55 of them.

Mushfiqur, unreasonably, is the leading run-getter of the Bangladesh side with 6351 runs at an average of 38.02 with 12 centuries. In his first 30 Tests from 2005 to 2012, the wicket-keeper batter has smacked 1587 runs at an average of nearly 29. Since then, he has clubbed 4764 runs at an average of 42.53, scoring 11 centuries and 18 half-centuries.

Rahim’s three Test centuries are the second-most among batters who bat at number 5 or below. Only the former Australia captain, Michael Clarke, is above them in the list with four centuries. Mushfiqur has been the backbone of Bangladesh’s fortunes in away games as his average of 38.70 is more away than at home (37.53).

Mushfiqur Rahim becomes first Bangladesh player to feature in 100 Tests

Among those batters who have collected 1000 runs in the longest format, Rahim has an average of 45.77, which is the highest first innings average for the country. In the first innings of the five-day format, he has recorded 4211 runs in 99 innings at an average of 45.77.

Rahim has played the second-most games (28) as the wicket-keeping captain, only behind MS Dhoni (60). Mushfiqur should have been playing his milestone Test at the Shere Bangla National Stadium, a venue where he has scored exactly 5000 runs- a record for most international runs at a single venue.

Rahim has Test hundreds in six nations, again the most for Bangladesh. He is also the only player of the country to score a Test hundred in all four Asian countries where Test cricket has been played (excluding the United Arab Emirates).

Najmul Hossain Shanto pulled off a captain's knock, making a glorious century to place Bangladesh in a commanding position on the first day of the first Test against Sri Lanka in Galle. Walking in with a precarious 45/3 in the morning session, Shanto's calm and ability turned the tables. His sixth century in Tests, and second against Sri Lanka, proved his potential to shine under duress, steadying the innings with maturity.

Shanto had a good friend in Mushfiqur Rahim, and together the two formed a dominating partnership of more than 190 runs. Not only did their partnership stabilize Bangladesh, but it also changed the momentum in favor of the latter decisively. Shanto's prudent play repelled Sri Lanka's bowlers' early aggression, and Mushfiqur's maturity provided stability for the Tigers to control the post-lunch session without losing a single wicket.

The Bangladesh captain touched his century in the last session, trumpeting it with a paddle shot off two, standing on tiptoe in elation with bat and helmet aloft. His second century in five Sri Lankan innings, this ton took his career tally against them to 320 runs from seven Tests. On the cusp of 2,000 Test runs in his 36th match, Shanto's innings was a testament to individual maturity and leadership determination.

A Day of Resilience and Dominance

Shanto's century was a testament to his growing standing as a Test batter and captain. His survival against the initial barrage and subsequent success against an attack of quality reinforced his burgeoning reputation. The knock was a personal landmark and an indication of intent, providing a firm foundation for Bangladesh's innings.

Mushfiqur's contribution was also crucial, offering the guile to temper Shanto's aggression. Together, their partnership exasperated Sri Lanka, transforming a jittery beginning into a day of dominance. At stumps, Bangladesh stood tall, with Shanto's captaincy and batting skills indicating their intent in the Test.

Bangladesh finally got something in the Whites to cheer about. On Day 1 of the first Test against Sri Lanka, the visiting team found not one, but two centurions in Najmul Hossain Shanto, the skipper of the Bangladesh team, and the experienced Mushfiqur Rahim. At the age of 38, he got his 12th Test century.

Before the beginning of the two-match Test series, Rahim was under pressure. After playing a match-winning knock against Pakistan last year, his form gradually continued on a decline phase. Despite being a senior player of the squad, the keeper-batter felt the urge to show his class once again.

The match at the Galle International Stadium is marked as the last Test match of Sri Lankan cricket legend Angelo Mathews. Sri Lanka, the host team, started the match with a well-noted departure of both the openers of Bangladesh—Shadman Islam and Anamul Haque (0); Mominul Haque, at number 3, was caught out for 29. From here, the Tiger Brigade has started to roar.

Two back-to-back centuries put Bangladesh in the driving seat after Day 1. Captain Shanto and Rahim will start Day 2 with 136 and 105, respectively. Rahim's recent batting was under the scanner, and today, when he came to bat, he was under mountain-sized pressure. This inning will provide him some much-needed boost for the upcoming days. During his 105-run innings on Day 1, he hit 5 deliveries for boundaries and showed resilience on the wicket.

After 29 years of wait Pakistan is hosting a major ICC event. Past-time Champions Trophy winners are hosting the event. Pakistan plays its first match on 19 February and is been out of Champions Trophy 2025 within 6 days of the gap.

Pakistan lost the match against their arch-rivals India, where Virat Kohli's brilliant century paved the salvation of the victory but this could have been changed if Pakistani players had used the opportunity.

Virat Kohli Obstructing The Field

India was on to the chase and they lost a few quick wickets at the start though Virat Kohli and Iyer were there to rescue. The incident happened in the 21 over of the match when Kohli played a shot on the offside and took a quick single, even Kohli reached the bowling crease but the fielder threw the ball and he tried to catch the ball which depicted but the ball passed through Kohli gloves and standing behind Babar Azam too misses the ball. This was even highlighted by Sunil Gavaskar who was doing commentary at that time stating that Kohli shouldn't have done that otherwise, it would have been a big mistake.

But the issue there arises that none of the Pakistan team appealed to the umpire about this. Yes, this would have been given out on certain circumstances which depends on the third umpire call it would be a chance of 60-40 where he could be given out for obstructing the ball.

How It Been Measured

Obstructing The Field is a rule that if any batter who tries to cover the flow of the ball to not reach the stumps thrown by the fielder that is called Obstructing the field and in this case the batter is given out for relevant disturbance which had happened earlier too in cricket field. There have been several instances earlier too in the cricket field.

Match between Bangladesh and New Zealand where Mushfuqir Rahim was batting and hit the ball over cover fielders fields and threw the ball though being inside the crease he deflected the ball with a bat and the New Zealand players started appealing for it umpire gave it out for obstructing the field.

2. The second case was a match between India and Pakistan where Sreesanth was bowling to Inzamamul Haq he stroked the ball and the ball went straight back to Sreesanth he collected it throws it back to him because he was quite upfront though Inzamamul Haq stopped the ball with bat though standing diagonal where wickets were just side opposite and the appeal for obstructing the field happened and he was given out through the through was deliberately on him

So in the same case if any Pakistan players had appealed for it there would be a possible chance Virat Kohli would have been given out and the scenario would have been different because India too had lost wickets in regular intervals it was Kohli who stabilised if at that time anyone would have been appealed it would have been a tricky chase for India but for now its one opportunity. Now Pakistani players have been criticised on social media for how they missed this opportunity.

Mustafizur Rahman, the left-arm pace sensation from Bangladesh, has been making headlines with his exceptional performance in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. Playing for the Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Mustafizur has quickly become a key player.

Bangladesh Cricket Board on Rahman

Recently, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) made a significant decision to extend his stay in the IPL by one more day, allowing him to play in the crucial match against Punjab Kings on May 1st. This move has been seen as a strategic decision by BCB, balancing national commitments with the bowler’s current form and exposure on the international stage.

Mustafizur’s Impact at Chennai Super Kings

Since joining CSK, Mustafizur Rahman has been a revelation, claiming 10 wickets in just 5 matches. His ability to deliver in critical moments has not only earned him accolades but also bolstered CSK’s bowling line-up. Mustafizur’s unique bowling style, characterized by lethal cutters and subtle variations in pace, has puzzled many batsmen this season, making him a valuable asset for his team.

BCB’s Decision to Extend IPL Stay

Originally, Mustafizur was granted a no-objection certificate by BCB to participate in the IPL until April 30. However, recognizing his crucial role at CSK and his form, the board decided to extend this period to include the May 1st game against Punjab Kings. A BCB official explained that this extension is part of a broader strategy to manage the player’s workload ahead of the T20 World Cup, ensuring he remains in peak condition.

Implications for CSK’s Upcoming Matches

With Mustafizur available for the May 1st clash, CSK can maintain their bowling strategy, which heavily relies on his early and late overs’ efficiency. His presence is especially crucial against a strong side like Punjab Kings, where his expertise in handling pressure situations could prove decisive.

Mustafizur’s Return and Commitments

Following his extended IPL stint, Mustafizur is scheduled to return to Bangladesh on May 2. His return is timely as it precedes the T20 series against Zimbabwe, starting on May 3. The BCB has expressed its intent not to release him for further matches in the IPL season, prioritizing his rest and preparation for the upcoming World Cup.

Bangladesh’s T20I Strategy and Future Fixtures

Looking ahead, Bangladesh is set to play a three-match T20I series against the USA from May 21-25. This series is part of their preparation for the T20 World Cup, with matches scheduled in the USA. Bangladesh has limited experience playing in American conditions, having participated in only two T20Is there before, both against the West Indies in Florida in 2018.

Mushfiqur Rahim hit the quickest century by a Bangladeshi player before downpour constrained the second one-day worldwide against Ireland to be cancelled on Monday.

Mushfiqur beat Shakib Al Hasan’s 2009 record of 63 balls against Zimbabwe to reach his ninth century

It helped Bangladesh win the first game of the three-game series on Saturday with a record total of 349-6, beating the previous record of 338-8. The arrival of rain shortly after Bangladesh’s innings necessitated the game’s cancellation by officials.

“Mushfiqur has been in good touch and, even in the last game, his 40-plus knock helped us to a 300-plus total. Today, he was at his best. I have never seen any Bangladeshi batter scoring a century, coming after 30 overs. It was a great treat for the eyes.”

teammate Liton Das said.

Bangladesh’s first batsmen, Liton Das (70) and Najmul Hossain (73) combined for a 101-run second-wicket stand after losing captain Tamim Iqbal for 23.

Graham Hume, a paceman from Ireland, followed up his 4-60 in the first ODI with a 3-58, igniting a mini-collapse that left Bangladesh at 190-4 before Mushfiqur took over.

He and Towhid Hridoy, who scored 92 runs in the opening match, added 228 runs from 78 deliveries. When Hridoy fell behind on 49, he narrowly missed out on his second fifty in a row.

Bangladesh added 108 runs in the final ten overs, led by Mushfiqur, who hit 14 fours and two sixes.

Thursday’s game is the series’ third and decisive one.
