England selectors have added Heather Knight for the upcoming Women’s World Cup 2025 in India in late autumn, anticipating the veteran player to get fit in the next three weeks. The former captain hasn’t played since injuring her hamstring against the West Indies, but is expected to get better in a few weeks.

Danni Wayatt-Hodge will also strengthen their batting order after the selectors overlooked her for the home summer, with her last ODI appearance taking place on the Ashes tour of Australia. The selection committee, going with four spinners, means that their pacer Kate Cross had to miss out on the 15-member squad of the Women's ODI World Cup 2025, as Sophie Ecclestone will lead the spin bowling department.

The off-spinner, Charlie Dean, and leg spinner Sarah Glenn are also making a return post the West Indies series. England’s seam attack consists of Lauren Bell, Lauren Filer, and Em Arlott, who made her international debut three months ago. Nat Sciver-Brunt, hoping to get back in bowling, can balance the squad with her all-round skills during the World Cup tournament.

Heather Knight returns for England in ICC Women’s World Cup 2025

The World Cup 2025 will run from September 30 to November 02 and will be the first ICC event after head coach Charlotte Edwards and captain Nat Scriver-Brunt took charge. Their head coach felt that even though the competition would pose a huge challenge, they would remain hopeful of competing.

“Conditions mean we have gone for the extra spinner, and we're lucky to be able to have such depth in this department. It's fantastic to welcome Sarah Glenn back. That does mean there's no room for Kate Cross, Maia Bouchier, or Alice Davidson-Richards, which will be disappointing for them.Edward expressed.

It's also great to have Danni back in the squad, she's been in good form in domestic cricket and she'll bring dynamism and depth to our batting, alongside Heather, who we are delighted to be able to select. She'll be a huge asset for us.” The England head coach addressed.

Northern Superchargers Women all-round show to beat Trent Rockets Women by 8 wickets in Match 8 of The Hundred Women’s Competition 2025. They bowled well to keep the Rockets to a small total and then chased it down comfortably, thanks to a brilliant innings from young talent Davina Perrin.

The Rockets got off to a bad start when Bryony Smith (1) was run out by a sharp throw from Georgia Wareham in the first set. Grace Scrivens (5) and Natasha Wraith (5) also fell cheaply. Nat Sciver-Brunt tried to steady things with 15 from 15 balls, but when she was out at 47/4, the team was in trouble. Captain Ashleigh Gardner hit a quick 13 from 6 balls, while Heather Graham (15), Emma Jones (12), and Alana King (10) added a few runs each. But the Rockets could only reach 128/8 in their 100 balls.

Davina Perrin stole the show with a superb unbeaten 72 from just 40 balls, hitting 12 fours. Phoebe Litchfield made 22 from 10 balls, and Annabel Sutherland stayed unbeaten on 18 from 11 balls to finish the job. The only wickets to fall were Alice Davidson-Richards (11) and Litchfield. The Superchargers reached the target in 79 balls, winning with 21 balls left and showing their power with both bat and ball.

Nat Sciver-Brunt has achieved a rare double in franchise cricket, becoming the first player, male or female, to score 1,000 runs in The Hundred and also the first to reach 1,000 runs in the Women’s Premier League (WPL). Her landmark in The Hundred came during the 2025 season for Trent Rockets, when she crossed the four-figure mark to finish as the tournament’s all-time leading scorer.

Sciver-Brunt’s record in The Hundred is built on consistent match-winning performances, powerful stroke play, and an ability to score quickly without compromising on stability. She stands well ahead of her nearest rival, underlining her dominance in the format.

In the Women’s Premier League, Sciver-Brunt has been just as unstoppable for the Mumbai Indians. On March 15, 2025, during the WPL Final against Delhi Capitals, she became the first to cross 1,000 career runs in the league’s short history.

That milestone was part of a remarkable 2025 season where she scored 523 runs, becoming the first player to pass 500 runs in a single WPL season. She ended the year as both Orange Cap winner and Most Valuable Player.

A Rare Double

Being the first to 1,000 runs in two separate high-profile tournaments is an unprecedented achievement. It reflects not only Sciver-Brunt’s world-class batting skills but also her adaptability to different conditions and match situations.

Whether it’s the explosive atmosphere of The Hundred in England or the high-stakes clashes of the WPL in India, Nat Sciver-Brunt has proven herself the gold standard for batting excellence in women’s cricket.

Fielding Woes and Missed Opportunities Leave England Searching for Answers. England Women's cricket team is facing increased scrutiny after a 2-1 ODI series defeat to India, with questions being raised not just from pundits but from within their own ranks, most notably, former fast bowler Katherine Sciver-Brunt. Following a 13-run loss in the decider at Durham, Sciver-Brunt, now a broadcaster, publicly challenged the team’s discipline and desire, comments that have sparked considerable debate and drawn a firm response from current players and management.

“It looks lazy and like they don’t care” – Katherine Sciver-Brunt

Katherine, England’s leading ODI wicket-taker and wife of current captain Nat Sciver-Brunt, didn’t hold back during her commentary on BBC Test Match Special. She questioned whether all players were fully committed to the cause, suggesting some performances came across as lacking intent or intensity.

“To me, it looks lazy and like they don’t care,” she said. “It came across to me as bad attitude and no discipline. I don’t think everyone is doing everything they possibly can.” While she acknowledged that this wasn’t the case for every player, the former Pacer’s critique pointed to a wider issue: mental strength and internal fight. She called on the side to be more expressive, courageous, and front-footed in pressure situations.

Nat Sciver-Brunt Responds: “Everyone is committed.”

Speaking after the match, Nat Sciver-Brunt defended her players, stressing that what may seem like apathy from the outside doesn’t reflect what goes on internally. “I know everyone on that pitch is committed to doing the best they can for England,” she said. “I’ve been put in that situation before when I was younger ‘She looks so relaxed. Maybe she doesn’t care, but that’s not what’s happening inside.”

Nat’s own innings of 98 off 105 deliveries, in a record-chase attempt that fell just short, exemplified the kind of fight and resilience that she believes the team still possesses. The latest defeat adds to a growing concern about England's fielding and on-field composure. Fielding errors were prevalent throughout the multi-format summer, notably during the Ashes and the T20 World Cup last year. Six dropped catches in a recent T20I at The Oval reignited questions around focus and sharpness.

In the final ODI, England's chase of 319 faltered despite a 162-run partnership between Nat and Emma Lamb. Missed lbw reviews and another scrappy fielding display didn’t help their cause. India’s win, built on Harmanpreet Kaur’s hundred and Kranti Goud’s six-wicket haul, sealed the series and raised fresh alarms just 10 weeks out from the ODI World Cup.

Edwards Backs Players as Off-Field Distractions Mount

Head coach Charlotte Edwards came to the team's defence, firmly backing the squad's professionalism and unity. “I couldn’t be happier with where the squad’s at, in terms of their attitude and effort,” she said. “That was something I made clear when I came into this role, and I’ve seen that reflected in how the group operates.” Edwards, who shares a long history with Katherine Sciver-Brunt as former teammates, acknowledged the external criticism but stood by her current players.

The England camp also had to deal with off-field noise involving Sophie Ecclestone and former spinner Alex Hartley. Ecclestone clarified she had opted not to do a Sky Sports interview with Hartley to focus on her warm-up routine months after Hartley said she had been “given the cold shoulder” following critical comments she made about England’s fitness last year.

Managing Director Clare Connor addressed that controversy post-Ashes, stressing the importance of media engagement and professionalism under growing public scrutiny. “As professional women’s cricket has developed, that scrutiny is something that we all have to embrace and accept,” Connor said.

With the 50-over World Cup in India on the horizon, England now have to improve its tactics, but also contend with perceptions about their mental fortitude and togetherness as a team. Questions will continue to surround their on-field intent, leadership approach, and tension between being calm and aggressive. England’s World Cup campaign in India could be critical not only for results but to quiet the distractions that now surround them from their own dressroom and outside.

England women have named their squad for the upcoming three-match ODI series against India later this month, as Nat Sciver-Brunt is expected to take a full part in the format after missing the last couple of T20Is due to a groin injury. She suffered the injury in the second clash, but the selectors are optimistic about their captain’s fitness for the opening clash on July 16 at the Ageas Bowl in Southampton.

Sophie Ecclestone, who missed the West Indies ODIs early in the season recovering from the injury, replaces leg spinner Sarah Glenn in the squad. Hampshire’s Maia Bouchier, who got a T20I squad call-up last week, is also back in contention. Lauren Filer, who averaged 76 mph in bowling the fastest record over in women’s cricket, has also been included.

It will be a tough task for the home side after their series defeats. They showed a tense fight after dropping the first two games, which pleased the new head coach, Charlotte Edwards, who sees the ODI series as another test for the side’s credentials to rebuild. Their focus is now on the future after disappointments at the T20 World Cup and the Ashes last winter.

England women announce experienced squad for India series

Coach Charlotte Edwards feels that the T20I series pushed them as a unit.We knew they would, and we've learned a lot about the team in the three games so far. There have been some good moments, but we're a team in transition and we need to keep working hard to do what we're trying to do more consistently, and for longer. He addressed the media.

“The squad has largely stayed the same since the ODI series against West Indies, but Soph [Ecclestone] comes back into the side, meaning Sarah Glenn misses out this time around. We've also added Maia Bouchier to bolster our batting line-up and continue to offer competition for places. He reflected on this series being the perfect preparation for the upcoming Women’s World Cup in India this autumn. The second fixture of the series will take place on July 19 at Lord’s before the action heads to Chester-Le-Street on July 22.

England’s hopes of clinching the T20I series against India have taken a significant hit, with captain Nat Sciver-Brunt ruled out of the remaining two matches due to a groin injury. The star all-rounder had already missed the third T20I, and subsequent scans have confirmed that her recovery will take longer than initially anticipated.

Tammy Beaumont, who stepped in as captain for the third T20I, will continue to lead the side for the remainder of the series. Beaumont guided England to a narrow five-run win at Hove, keeping the series alive after India had taken a 2-0 lead. The fourth T20I will be played on Wednesday, 9 July, as England looks to level the series.

Sciver-Brunt’s absence leaves a big void, both in leadership and with the bat. Despite England’s 97-run thrashing in the first T20I, her 66 off 42 balls was one of the few bright spots. However, she picked up a left groin injury during the second match, where she managed just 13 runs. Notably, she didn’t bowl in the first two games, with England’s management opting to reduce her workload ahead of a busy calendar.

Beaumont Leads as England Aim to Keep T20I Series Alive Without Sciver-Brunt

In response to her unavailability, Maia Bouchier has been drafted into the squad. England will now look to continue the momentum gained under Beaumont, who made her captaincy debut in her 247th international match.

The ODI series begins on 16 July, and Sciver-Brunt is now racing against time to be fit for that leg of the tour. England will be hoping her recovery progresses swiftly, as she remains a crucial component of their white-ball setup.

With the series now delicately poised at 2-1 in India’s favor, England’s ability to rally without their regular skipper will be put to the test. All eyes will now be on Beaumont and her side as they look to force a series decider in the fifth and final T20I.
