English all-rounder and captain Nat Sciver-Brunt created history during the 16th match of the WPL 2026 between RCB Women and MI Women, where she became the first batter in the tournament's history to record a century.

WPL 2026: MI Women scored 199/4 against RCB Women

After RCB Women chose to field first, the defending champions MI Women managed to slam 199/4 in 20 overs. The no.3 batter Nat Sciver-Brunt hit her first T20 century, which created history in the Women's Premier League, as it was the first WPL century.

Sciver-Brunt came to bat in the third over, after the MI opener Sajeevan Sajana was dismissed for seven runs. The English star had a 131-run partnership with the opener Hayley Matthews for the second wicket. While Matthews completed 50 runs in 34 balls, Sciver-Brunt earlier completed her 50 runs in 32 balls.

Although Matthews was dismissed for 56 off 39 balls with nine fours, Sciver-Brunt continued her strong batting performance till the final moment of the innings.

Nat Sciver-Brunt became first to hit WPL century

In the final over of the innings, Sciver-Brunt needed one more run to become the first centurion of WPL. On the fourth ball of that over, which was her second ball facing in that over, Sciver-Brunt took a single to create WPL history. The first WPL century was recorded in 57 balls, as the English legend remained not out for 100 off 57 balls with 16 fours and one six.

Before this knock, the WPL experienced 10 90+ scores, which all failed to reach the three-figure mark. Even Sophie Devine was the first batter to score 99 runs in the WPL 2023, while Georgia Voll scored 99 not out last season. Finally, the WPL century is over; as it was the 11th time lucky.

It's a matchup between a squad with a stable core and an expert, title-winning captain, and one with a young skipper and several new players. MI has played five games and won two, while DC has only one win from four. DC has struggled with the powerplay this season, in stark contrast to prior seasons. With both teams struggling in various ways early on, the initial six overs might once more set the tone and possibly determine the game.

Harmanpreet played a captain’s knock, remaining unbeaten on 74 off 42 balls, while Sciver-Brunt supported her well with 70 off 46 balls. Their partnerships helped Mumbai stay in control, even though Nandani Sharma bowled well for Delhi and picked up 2/26.

In reply, Delhi Capitals Women could not keep up with the high target and they were bowled out for 145 in 19 overs. Chinelle Henry tried to fight back with 58 off 33 balls but the rest of the batters could not support her. Mumbai’s bowlers performed well, with Nicola Carey (3/37) and Amelia Kerr (3/24) doing most of the damage. Harmanpreet Kaur was awarded the Player of the Match for her match-winning performance as MIW sealed their first win of the WPL 2026 season.

MI-W vs DC-W Probable Winners:

Defending champions Mumbai Indians Women are going to be looking to rebound from a narrow defeat in their opener. They will next face the Delhi Capitals Women, who they defeated in the finals last season. It is reasonable to expect Mumbai to enter the match as the favorites. Delhi has enough talent to upset any rival when things go their way, and they can draw confidence from winning both of their group games against MI last season, but they'll have to perform at their peak against what appears to be a stronger Mumbai lineup. Having said that, batting second will provide an important advantage due to the effect of dew. The outcome of this contest may be determined by the team that ends up chasing the score. Considering the team combination, Mumbai Indians Women is expected to win this match.

<![CDATA[Top 3 run getters in Women's Premier League (WPL) history]]> https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-stats/top-3-run-getters-in-women-s-premier-league-wpl-history/ https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-stats/top-3-run-getters-in-women-s-premier-league-wpl-history/ Sat, 03 Jan 2026 12:45:04 GMT

The 2026 season of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) begins on January 09, this year, with the Mumbai Indians taking on the Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the curtain raiser at the Dr DY Patil Sports Academy in Navi Mumbai. Just like all seasons of the game, the upcoming edition is also expected to be an exciting one for the viewers and the players.

Just a week before the start of the WPL 2026, Delhi Capitals announced Jemimah Rodrigues as their new captain, while Ellyse Perry and Annabel Sutherland withdrew from the edition due to their personal reasons, which put the two teams- Bengaluru and the Delhi Capitals (DC) in a spot of bother for the new season of the tournament.

Over the years, some of the classical players have scored runs in the tournament as they enjoyed the pitch at the start of the Indian season. In the list of the top three run-getters, there is no Indian player. Among Indians, Shafali Varma remains the most successful player with 865 runs in 27 innings at an average of 36.04 and a strike rate of 162.59 with the help of six fifties.

A look at the top 3 run-getters in Women’s Premier League (WPL) history

1. Nat Sciver-Brunt (Mumbai Women)

Nat Sciver-Brunt, who became the first retained player for the Mumbai Indians ahead of the WPL 2026, remains the leading run-getter of the league’s history with 1027 runs in 29 innings at an average of 46.68 and a strike rate of 141.85, with the help of eight half-centuries at the best score of unbeaten 80 runs.

Nat started her campaign in the WPL in 2022 with 332 runs in ten innings at an average of 66.40 and a strike rate of 140.08, with the help of three half-centuries at the best score of undefeated 72 runs for the Mumbai Indians. Her last season, where he notched up 523 runs in ten innings at an average of over 65 and a strike rate of more than 150, thanks to five half-centuries, remains our best in the competition.

With experience of over 130 WT20Is, the England veteran is expected to lead the batting department again heading into the WPL 2026.

2. Ellyse Perry (Royal Challengers Bengaluru)

Ellyse Perry, playing for the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), is the second leading run-getter in WPL history. She has recorded an overall 972 runs in 25 innings at an average of nearly 65 and a strike rate of over 130 with the help of eight half-centuries and the best score of unbeaten 90 runs in this event.

Consistency has been a key for Perry, who clubbed over 300 runs in the last two seasons of the tournament, and that’s what will be the most missing factor for Bengaluru in their middle order, heading into the new season.

During the WPL 2025, Perry recorded 372 runs in just eight innings at an average of 93 and a strike rate of almost 150, scoring four half-centuries and the best coat of undefeated 90 runs.

3. Meg Lanning (Delhi Capitals)

The veteran and successful Australia captain, Meg Lanning, led the Delhi Capitals in the first three seasons of the WPL before being shifted to the UP Warriorz for 2026. In the first two seasons of WPL, she crossed 330 runs consecutively.

Her best season with the bat came in the opening edition of the tournament, where Lanning smashed 345 runs in nine innings at an average of nearly 50 and a strike rate of almost 140, with the help of two half-centuries and the best score of 72 runs.

The last season was not the worst campaign for Lanning, but it was mediocre compared to her caliber. She 276 runs in nine innings at an average of 34.50 and a strike rate of under 120 with three half-centuries.
