Nepal became one of the three teams, along with Oman and the United Arab Emirates (UAE), to qualify for the 2026 T20 World Cup in India and Sri Lanka. They came into the tournament after a strong series victory in Sharjah against the West Indies by a 2-1 margin. They completed an unbeaten journey for the entire tournament with fabulous performances with the bat and ball.

After their last victory in Al Amerat Cricket Ground, one of Nepal's players came into the middle and picked up a wicket to hit the bails. The Super Six, 17th of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Asia & EAP Qualifier 2025 will see Oman (OMN) facing Nepal (NEP) at the Al Amerat Cricket Ground. Nepal's performance in the Asia and EAP Qualifier Super Six has been exceptional, as it narrowly defeated UAE and Qatar in two low-scoring matches. Those tight wins have lifted them to second place on the table, and they will now aim to carry that confidence forward in the matches to come.

Oman started their Super Six campaign in the Asia and EAP Qualifier on a strong note, beating Qatar by 34 runs and then edging out UAE by five wickets. Their place in the top of the table has been secured by their two wins, and with two more matches remaining, their qualification for the next stage looks almost certain.

The Nepal national cricket team stepped into a new era on Sunday as the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) unveiled the team’s fresh jersey during a special ceremony in the capital. The event was marked by excitement and pride, not only for the striking new design but also for the announcement of a landmark sponsorship deal with NAASA Securities.

The three-year agreement, valued at USD 544,614, will see NAASA Securities become the main sponsor of the national team. Their logo will feature prominently on the front of the new jersey, symbolizing a partnership aimed at supporting the growth of cricket in Nepal. CAN officials said the deal would provide vital financial backing for infrastructure, training, and grassroots programs.

The new kit proudly showcases Nepal’s identity. Retaining the traditional red and blue colour palette, it features modern design elements, including the national flag on both shoulders and symbolic imagery of Mount Everest and the one-horned rhinoceros. It blends heritage with a fresh, competitive look, something both players and fans can rally behind.

New Look and New Support Fuel Nepal’s Cricket Ambitions

The launch comes at a pivotal moment for Nepal cricket. The team is set to depart for Australia to participate in the Top End T20 Series in Darwin, scheduled from August 14 to 24. This series will serve as a key warm-up ahead of the T20 World Cup Qualifiers, where Nepal will aim to secure a spot on the global stage.

NAASA officials, in turn, praised the national team for inspiring a new generation of cricketers and promised continued support.

For Nepal’s passionate cricket supporters, the unveiling signals more than just a change in apparel. It marks a renewed commitment to progress, professionalism, and the dream of making a bigger impact in world cricket. With a fresh jersey, a strong sponsor, and a determined squad, Nepal heads into its next challenge with optimism and ambition.

<![CDATA[Nepal and Kuwait forge groundbreaking bilateral cricket series from 2026]]> https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/nepal-and-kuwait-forge-groundbreaking-bilateral-cricket-series-from-2026/ https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/nepal-and-kuwait-forge-groundbreaking-bilateral-cricket-series-from-2026/ Wed, 23 Jul 2025 14:54:33 GMT

In a landmark move for Associate cricket, the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) and the Kuwait Cricket Board have agreed to launch an annual bilateral series for both men’s and women’s teams starting in 2026. Finalized during the ICC AGM in Singapore, the agreement includes a minimum of three T20 Internationals each year, with the possibility of additional 50-over matches, to be played on a home-and-away basis.

The objective of this affiliation is to create regular international exposure for two of the potential Associate teams in Asia. For Nepal, coming off their appearance at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024, this agreement will provide regular opportunities to play at the top levels of international cricket, and also prepare and condition their squads leading into global qualifiers. For Kuwait, it provides a chance to experience sport at a higher level regularly, as they prepare for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 Asia Regional Qualifiers.

Crucially, the agreement gives equal importance to women’s cricket. Both boards have committed to featuring women's teams annually, a significant step in promoting gender inclusion and nurturing the women’s game in regions where such exposure has traditionally been limited.

Nepal and Kuwait to play yearly cricket series from 2026, boosting development and preparation for ICC events

The memories to be experienced from this partnership will (hopefully) lead to wider development outcomes. Nepal should expect benefits in stadium infrastructure development as well as closer connections with domestic and international formats as it plays matches, and benefits from the income flow of tourism and the local ownership. In Kuwait, with a sizeable active Nepali population base, matches should attract a following, like an international event with chants, song, and dance creating a carnival around cricket.

The bilateral matches also provide an important opportunity pathway for player development, given that both sides were placed in the same group for the 2026 Asia Regional Qualifiers. This not only increases the competitive nature of the opportunity, but also helps create a narrative of these important moves into ICC events.

In summary, the partnership between Nepal and Kuwait is a thoughtful and proactive initiative, one that highlights how Associate members can collaborate to grow and develop the sport, enhance their level of competitiveness, and develop the global appeal of cricket, and becomes a useful template for others.

<![CDATA[Nepal and the West Indies embark on a historic bilateral series adventure in September]]> https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/nepal-and-the-west-indies-embark-on-a-historic-bilateral-series-adventure-in-september/ https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/nepal-and-the-west-indies-embark-on-a-historic-bilateral-series-adventure-in-september/ Fri, 13 Jun 2025 12:51:03 GMT

For the first time in the history of international cricket, Nepal and the West Indies are all set to face each other in their first-ever bilateral series starting in late September. The historic bilateral series will be played in the T20 format and will comprise three games that will be played on September 27, 28, and 30. All three games will be hosted at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Although the series will be held in a neutral venue, Nepal will retain the hosting rights.

Previously, both Nepal and the West Indies have faced each other in the 2023 ODI World Cup Qualifier in Zimbabwe, which the latter won convincingly by a galloping 101 runs courtesy of Shai Hope's magnificent ton (132 off 129). This has been the only meeting between the two sides up until now.

Cricket West Indies refers to this bilateral series as "historic"

In a recent statement released by Cricket West Indies (CWI), the cricketing body termed the bilateral series as "historic" and reiterated its commitment to spreading the global influence of the sport.

"Significant milestone in the ongoing mission to grow and globalize the game of cricket". The matches will be played on September 27, 28, and 30 in the lead up to Nepal's participation in the men's T20 World Cup Asia qualifier later in the year."

The CWI chief executive, Chris Dehring, also joined in to echo the sentiments of the national cricketing board. He stated that the board strives to grow the game of cricket beyond its borders, emboldening three main traits of the game - pride, purpose, and the power of unity.

"This series is more than just a set of international matches - it's a celebration of the game's expanding global footprint and a testament to what cricket represents: pride, purpose, and the power of unity. As a full-member nation, we see it as part of our responsibility to contribute to the development of cricket beyond our borders."

This series will mark a stepping stone for Nepal cricket to dive deep into the vast realms of professional cricket. Up against the two-time T20 title winners, Nepal will have a grueling test ahead of them. However, this series will give them the opportunity to enhance their preparedness ahead of their participation in the crucial T20 World Cup Asia qualifier.

At present, both teams are in the midst of a limited-overs tour. The West Indies are currently in Ireland competing in a three-match T20I series, with the first game already washed out. Nepal, on the other hand, are in Scotland for a T20I tri-series also involving the Netherlands.

With the fifth wicket down, it seemed Nepal might not reach 100 runs. However, Puja Mahato (25 off 32) and Kabita Joshi (31* off 23) put together a 34-run partnership, bringing Nepal to 108/6. Mahato was run out in the final over, but Nepal managed a respectable total. Sadia Iqbal ended with two wickets.

Pakistan’s Impactful start

Powerplay: Strong start with bat

Pakistan made great use of the fielding restrictions, scoring nearly half of their target runs in the PowerPlay. Gull Feroza began aggressively with a boundary on the first ball, and Muneeba Ali added three boundaries, setting up a strong position for Pakistan.

Middle overs: Easy victory for Pakistan

Feroza and Muneeba continued to score freely against Nepal’s inexperienced bowlers. They chased down the target in just 5.5 more overs. Feroza reached her fifty off 29 balls but was out with four runs needed for victory. Muneeba remained unbeaten, just short of her fifty, but guided Pakistan to a decisive win.

Player of the Match (Gull Feroza):

“It is a memorable day for me and I am very happy that I could help my team win. I wanted to play my natural game. This game has become so aggressive and that is my natural game. The cover drive was my favourite. Want to dedicate this award to my family.”

<![CDATA[Women's T20 Asia Cup 2024, Match 01: Nepal beat UAE by 6 wickets to register historic win]]> https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/womens-t20-asia-cup-2024-match-01-nep-w-beat-uae-w-by-6-wickets-to-register-historic-win/ https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/womens-t20-asia-cup-2024-match-01-nep-w-beat-uae-w-by-6-wickets-to-register-historic-win/ Fri, 19 Jul 2024 17:45:58 GMT

Nepal played eight games in the Women’s Asia Cup in 2012 and 2016 but didn’t win any. They didn’t qualify for the 2018 and 2022 editions. They almost missed the 2024 tournament too, but a last-minute rule change in March 2024 allowed them to participate. Now, they’ve won their first-ever game in the competition.

Opening batter Samjhana Khadka delivered a stellar performance with an unbeaten 45-ball 72, leading Nepal to a solid six-wicket win over the UAE in the first match of the Asia Cup 2024 on Friday (July 19) in Dambulla.

Choosing to bowl first, Nepal’s bowlers and fielders were sharp, limiting UAE to a below-par score of 115 on a good batting pitch. Khadka’s standout innings was crucial as Nepal chased down the target with 23 balls to spare, marking their first-ever win in the Asia Cup.

The difference in approach

UAE’s batting fell short due to a lack of solid partnerships. Khushi Sharma (36 off 39) and Kavisha Egodage (22 off 26) fought hard, but their innings lacked momentum. In contrast, Nepal showed clear intent and applied consistent pressure. Their bowling and fielding were solid, with only a few minor lapses.

UAE’s struggles early on

In the initial six overs, UAE scored quickly but lost three wickets. Skipper Indu Barma (3-19) took the crucial wicket of Theertha Satish, and UAE captain Esha Rohit Oza was run out. Despite some boundaries, the loss of wickets put Nepal in a strong position.

Middle overs: UAE’s batting woes

After the fielding restrictions ended, UAE struggled to maintain the run rate. They found it hard to rotate the strike and hit boundaries frequently. Nepal’s bowlers kept things tight, slowing down the scoring.

Ending on a low note

UAE hoped for a total above 120 but finished poorly. With only one boundary in the final five overs, Nepal’s bowlers remained disciplined, and UAE’s batters couldn’t accelerate. UAE ended with a total well below 120.

Nepal’s confident chase

Nepal’s chase began with Samjhana hitting two boundaries in the first over. They scored just a run more than UAE in the first six overs but managed to keep their wickets intact, putting pressure on UAE to defend a low score. Samjhana’s aggressive play set the tone for the chase.

Middle Overs: samjhana steady

Despite UAE taking a few wickets in the middle overs, they couldn’t build on their success. Samjhana continued to play aggressively, keeping the scoreboard moving and making it hard for UAE to gain momentum.

Quick finish

With just 16 runs needed from the last 30 balls, Samjhana finished the game with a flourish. Nepal completed the chase in just seven more deliveries, boosting their net run rate and morale with a swift victory.
