Milestone moment for Nepal cricket. They defeated Pakistan in a cricket match, that too in a World Cup event. Nepal and Pakistan faced each other in a crucial encounter of the Women's Blind T20 World Cup 2025, and they won the game by 10 wickets. As soon as the batter hit the winning stroke, cricketers of the Nepal cricket team rushed into the ground with their nation's flag. 

Batting first, Pakistan registered 170 runs for the loss of seven wickets in Bengaluru. Nepal achieved the target without losing any wickets in the ongoing first Women's T20 World Cup for visually impaired women. In the process, the Women's Blind team captain of Nepal, Binita Pun, played a match century by scoring 107 runs in 54 balls. During the creation of the innings, she smashed 14 boundaries. From the other end, it was Mankeshi Chaudhary, who supported the skipper throughout the second innings by scoring 43 runs. 

Binita Pun, who is a B-3 category batter, got the unbeaten 107 runs against only 54 deliveries. And Mankeshi Chaudhary, a B-2 category batter, got 43 not out off 31. Surprisingly, Pakistani bowlers were not able to pull down any wicket of the Nepal cricket team.

With the victory against Pakistan, the Nepal cricket team has already secured a place in the semi-finals of the inaugural edition of the Women's Blind T20 World Cup 2025. They are currently only behind India. Team India is ahead of Nepal by only 2 points in the tally. 

According to the rules of the tournament, the top four teams from the group stage will advance to the knockout stage. India and Nepal are into the next stage. Pakistan also can qualify for the semi-final stage. There are a total of 6 teams in the tournament: India, Pakistan, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Australia, and the USA. Each team will have to play a total of 5 matches in the group stage. India, Nepal, and Sri Lanka have already played 5 matches each. The other three teams will have to play 2 more matches each to complete the 5-match limit.

This tour marks Nepal’s return to action following their impressive 3-2 T20I series win over Malaysia earlier this year. Captain Indu Barma was outstanding with the bat, scoring 117 runs in five innings at an average of 58.50, while right-arm medium pacer Kabita Kunwar led the bowling charts with 9 wickets in four innings, averaging just 4.88.

Before that, Nepal also reached the Super Three stage of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Asia Region Qualifier, finishing second with three wins in six matches, narrowly missing out on qualification.

The right-handed batter looked to nail the slot delivery out of the ground, but it didn’t come on the middle of his blade and only flew in the air before the fielder grabbed the catch quite comfortably.

On the very next delivery, Sharafuddin Ashraf looks to slash the length of the delivery over the point region. He also didn’t get the same elevation, and the slower ball ended up in the hands of the fielder, Rupesh Singh, who came forward to grab the catch.

The question was whether Rashid could take a hat-trick on the third successive ball of the innings. Ijaz Ahmad Ahmadzai looked to use his entire power to smash the bowler straight down the ground, but he didn’t get the full power off the blade as the field grabbed a fine catch to send the batter back into the hut. Rashid finished with a fine figure of 4/27 in two overs.

Karim Janat smashed 35 runs in just 10 balls with the help of two boundaries and four sixes, while Farmanullah Safi stayed unbeaten on 30 runs in just nine balls, riding on two boundaries and three sixes. Their captain, Gulbadin Naib, cracked 22 runs in nine balls to push Afghanistan to 112/5 in their allotted six overs.

In reply, Nepal’s captain and wicket-keeper batter, Sundeep Jora, nailed 53 runs in 14 balls with the help of one boundary and eight sixes at a strike rate of 378.67. But still they fell short of the target by 17 runs. Safi was excellent with the ball and finished with 1/19 in his two overs.

Nepal became one of the three teams, along with Oman and the United Arab Emirates (UAE), to qualify for the 2026 T20 World Cup in India and Sri Lanka. They came into the tournament after a strong series victory in Sharjah against the West Indies by a 2-1 margin. They completed an unbeaten journey for the entire tournament with fabulous performances with the bat and ball.

After their last victory in Al Amerat Cricket Ground, one of Nepal's players came into the middle and picked up a wicket to hit the bails. It gives the impression of him playing the ‘guli-danda’ to celebrate their unbeaten run in the event. The other players also gathered around him and enjoyed the moment.

Nepal started the competition comfortably with a 58-run win against Kuwait. They batted first to post 141/7 in their allotted 20 overs, with their opening batter, Kushal Bhurtel, smashing 66 runs in 56 balls at a strike rate of 117.86, with the help of three boundaries and three over boundaries. In reply, Kuwait got bundled out for 83 runs in 18.1 overs.

In the second fixture of the tournament, Nepal did a great job by keeping Japan to 131 runs in their first innings. Both Sandeep Lamichhane and Gulsan Jha picked up two wickets each in the first innings. The three-year agreement, valued at USD 544,614, will see NAASA Securities become the main sponsor of the national team. Speaking at the event, CAN representatives expressed confidence that the partnership with NAASA Securities would not only strengthen the team’s immediate preparations but also contribute to long-term development. NAASA officials, in turn, praised the national team for inspiring a new generation of cricketers and promised continued support.

For Nepal’s passionate cricket supporters, the unveiling signals more than just a change in apparel. It marks a renewed commitment to progress, professionalism, and the dream of making a bigger impact in world cricket. With a fresh jersey, a strong sponsor, and a determined squad, Nepal heads into its next challenge with optimism and ambition.

In a landmark move for Associate cricket, the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) and the Kuwait Cricket Board have agreed to launch an annual bilateral series for both men’s and women’s teams starting in 2026. Finalized during the ICC AGM in Singapore, the agreement includes a minimum of three T20 Internationals each year, with the possibility of additional 50-over matches, to be played on a home-and-away basis.

The objective of this affiliation is to create regular international exposure for two of the potential Associate teams in Asia. For Nepal, coming off their appearance at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024, this agreement will provide regular opportunities to play at the top levels of international cricket, and also prepare and condition their squads leading into global qualifiers. For Kuwait, it provides a chance to experience sport at a higher level regularly, as they prepare for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 Asia Regional Qualifiers.

Crucially, the agreement gives equal importance to women’s cricket. Both boards have committed to featuring women's teams annually, a significant step in promoting gender inclusion and nurturing the women’s game in regions where such exposure has traditionally been limited.

Nepal and Kuwait to play yearly cricket series from 2026, boosting development and preparation for ICC events

The memories to be experienced from this partnership will (hopefully) lead to wider development outcomes. Nepal should expect benefits in stadium infrastructure development as well as closer connections with domestic and international formats as it plays matches, and benefits from the income flow of tourism and the local ownership. In Kuwait, with a sizeable active Nepali population base, matches should attract a following, like an international event with chants, song, and dance creating a carnival around cricket.

The bilateral matches also provide an important opportunity pathway for player development, given that both sides were placed in the same group for the 2026 Asia Regional Qualifiers. This not only increases the competitive nature of the opportunity, but also helps create a narrative of these important moves into ICC events.

In summary, the partnership between Nepal and Kuwait is a thoughtful and proactive initiative, one that highlights how Associate members can collaborate to grow and develop the sport, enhance their level of competitiveness, and develop the global appeal of cricket, and becomes a useful template for others.
