The ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026, which India and Sri Lanka are jointly hosting, has produced some great matches, where the popular teams have faced strong challenges from the ICC Associate nations. The entire Tuesday, February 17, was completely historic for the ICC Men's T20 World Cup, as three matches created three strong histories.

The day started with the Group D New Zealand vs Canada match, where the 19-year-old Canada opener Yuvraj Samra slammed 110 off 65 balls (11 fours and six sixes), as his team scored 173/4 in 20 overs. In reply, New Zealand chased down the target in 15.1 overs after losing two wickets.

Meanwhile, the Zimbabwe vs Ireland day-night fixture was washed out in the rain without a toss. With one point shared by two teams, Zimbabwe have advanced to the Super Eight stage, while Ireland and Australia have been officially eliminated.

In the night game, Nepal faced Scotland, where Scotland scored 170/7, and Nepal chased down the target in 19.2 overs to secure a historic win in the tournament.

Nepal defeated Scotland by seven wickets with four balls to spare in their final Group C match of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai, on Tuesday.

This victory was Nepal’s first T20 World Cup win since their debut in 2014 in Bangladesh, where they had beaten Hong Kong and Afghanistan. After that, Nepal lost six matches in a row in the tournament.

Chasing 171 runs, Nepal reached the target losing three wickets in 19.2 overs to secure a consolation win. Although both teams were already out of the Super Eights, Nepal gave their fans a reason to cheer at Wankhede Stadium, where more than 19,000 spectators came to watch.

Earlier, Scotland batted first and scored 170 for 7 in 20 overs. Michael Jones was the top scorer with 71 runs off 45 balls, hitting eight fours and three sixes. He opened with George Munsey, who made 27 off 29 balls. Together, they added 80 runs by the 10th over without losing a wicket.

Nepal fought back in the middle overs. Sompal Kami bowled very well, taking 3 wickets for 25 runs in 4 overs. He dismissed Jones and Brandon McMullen quickly to stop Scotland’s momentum. McMullen scored 25 off 19 balls, while captain Richie Berrington made 10. Nandan Yadav took 2 wickets for 34 runs, removing Matthew Cross and Michael Leask. Rohit Paudel and Kushal Bhurtel took one wicket each.

Scotland scored only 38 runs in the last five overs. Mark Watt remained unbeaten on 10 off 4 balls, helping Scotland reach 170.

Nepal Chases Successfully

Nepal started their chase steadily. Kushal Bhurtel scored 43 off 35 balls with four sixes, and Aasif Sheikh made 33 off 27 balls. The opening pair added 74 runs in 9.1 overs.

After a heartbreaking start to the T20 World Cup 2026 campaign against England at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, Nepal slipped ominously against Italy at the same venue on the previous afternoon clash as they looked to gain some momentum for the development of their cricket against West Indies at the same venue for their morning clash in this tournament.

And it did not start as they perhaps anticipated, with them continuing to lose wickets and not getting runs at all with the bat. The Asian side lost six wickets for just 73 runs on the board in 15 overs and were in a position to get bundled out under 100 runs before playing their allotted 20 overs of the innings. Matthew Forde was excellent with the ball.

However, their middle-order batter, Dipendra Singh Airee, made a massive contribution with the bat. On the second ball of the 12th over, the right-handed batter made excellent use of the feat and reached to the pitch of the ball to deposit the delivery into the stands with a lofted shot over the long-off region.

In the penultimate over of the innings, the right-handed batter got a standing ovation for his half-century as the entire crowd stood on their feet after the batter uppercutted the short delivery against Samar Joseph over the short third band region to celebrate his half-century.

Watch the video here:

He finished the work with another stick as he picked the lane delivery and smoked it over the Midwest Region after getting down on one leg as the ball sailed into a deep region over the stands. He became only the second batter for Nepal to get individual 50-plus scores in the T20 World Cup history as they ended up with 133/8.

West Indies made a very cautious start to the chase before runs started to flow after Shimron Hetmyer made his entry into the crease. A defeat for Nepal will put the eliminated button officially beside their name, while a win for the West Indies will take them through to the Super 8 stage.

Brief Scores: Nepal 133/8 (Dipendra Singh Airee 58, Jason Holder 4/27, Matthew Forde 1/10) vs West Indies 94/1 (Shimron Hetmyer 43*, Nadan Yadav 1/18)

Italy produced a historic performance to defeat Nepal by 10 wickets in Match 17 of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026. After winning the toss and choosing to bowl, the Azzurri delivered a disciplined effort to restrict Nepal to 123 in 19.3 overs. The chase that followed was nothing short of extraordinary, as the Mosca brothers stitched together an unbeaten opening stand to seal victory in just 12.4 overs. The comprehensive win marked one of Italy’s most memorable moments on the global T20 stage.

Nepal began steadily but struggled to convert starts into significant contributions. Kushal Bhurtel fell early, and although captain Rohit Paudel played an aggressive cameo of 23 off 14 balls, wickets kept tumbling at regular intervals. Aarif Sheikh’s 27 provided brief resistance, while Karan KC’s late unbeaten 18 pushed the total past 120. However, Italy’s bowlers maintained control throughout, never allowing Nepal to build sustained partnerships during the middle overs of the innings.

Crishan Kalugamage starred with the ball, claiming three crucial wickets and dismantling Nepal’s middle order. Ben Manenti was equally impressive, conceding just nine runs in his four overs while picking up two wickets. JJ Smuts and Jaspreet Singh also chipped in, ensuring Nepal never gained momentum. Italy’s collective bowling display highlighted their tactical discipline and sharp execution under pressure, setting the stage perfectly for a confident chase.

Mosca Brothers Seal Historic Chase

In response, Italy’s opening pair of Justin Mosca and Anthony Mosca produced a flawless batting exhibition. The duo approached the target with composure and calculated aggression, taking full advantage of the powerplay. By the end of six overs, Italy had raced to 68 without loss, effectively putting the contest beyond Nepal’s reach. Their clean hitting and smart strike rotation left the Nepal bowlers searching for answers on a surface that offered little assistance.

Justin Mosca anchored the innings with an unbeaten 60 off 44 balls, while Anthony Mosca played the aggressor, smashing 62 from just 32 deliveries, including six towering sixes. The pair completed a dominant 124-run partnership, chasing down the target without losing a wicket. Italy’s emphatic victory not only boosted their campaign but also underscored their growing confidence and capability to compete strongly at the highest level of T20 cricket.

Top Performances

Crishan Kalugamage set the tone with a superb spell, claiming 3 for 18 and breaking Nepal’s middle order at crucial intervals, while Ben Manenti’s miserly 2 for 9 in four overs choked the scoring rate. However, the standout display came from the Mosca brothers in the chase. Justin Mosca’s composed unbeaten 60 anchored the innings, and Anthony Mosca’s explosive 62 off 32 balls dismantled the bowling attack. Their flawless 124-run opening partnership ensured Italy sealed a dominant 10-wicket victory in emphatic fashion.

Key Moments

Nepal’s innings lost momentum when Rohit Paudel fell at 49-2 after a brisk start, triggering a middle-order collapse led by Kalugamage’s triple strike. Ben Manenti’s economical spell during the powerplay further restricted scoring opportunities. In reply, Italy’s rapid start—68 runs in the first six overs—shifted complete control to the chasing side. Anthony Mosca’s early six-hitting spree broke Nepal’s resistance, and as the partnership crossed fifty without loss, the result became inevitable, sealing a historic win for Italy.

Brief Score:

Nepal – 123 all out (19.3 overs)
Karan KC 18*; Crishan Kalugamage 3/18, Ben Manenti 2/9

Italy – 124/0 (12.4 overs)
Justin Mosca 60*, Anthony Mosca 62* — Italy won by 10 wickets

Nepal Eye First Win Against The Azzurri

Meanwhile, Nepal will look to register their first win of the T20 World Cup 2026 when they face Italy, also known as The Azzurri, in a Group C match on Thursday. Nepal made their debut 12 years ago and won two games in the 2014 edition, but they have not tasted victory in the tournament since then.

Nepal came very close to beating England at the Wankhede Stadium last Sunday, losing by just four runs. That brave effort has created excitement around the team. With strong spirit and growing confidence, Nepal will hope to go one step further against Italy.

A heartwarming video has gone viral on social media platforms from the T20 World Cup 2026 clash at the Wankhede Stadium between Nepal and England, where the Nepal fans have been seen cleaning the Wankhede Stadium after the end of the game. These days, the stadiums remain quite dirty, especially after the end of the game, with plastics and water bottles being spread at different positions of the seating arrangements.

It's not the first time that this sort of scene was seen from their fans, as they came up with such a gesture when they cleaned up the stadium after Nepal's national cricket team's match against Canada last year in February. In that incident, the fans were seen wearing gloves and masks while cleaning up the University Ground in Kirtipur.

Nepal have once again stunned the world of cricket, as they almost beat the two-time champions England in their opening game of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026. After observing the match, the former South African fast bowler Dale Steyn has come up with a special offer for the impressive Nepal national cricket team.

In the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024, Nepal had a very close fight against South Africa, as they lost that group stage game by just one run. In that same tournament, they also fought impressively against Sri Lanka and Bangladesh.

Nepal winning the T20I series against West Indies is still a strong memory in cricket fans, and their first game of the T20 World Cup 2026, which was against England on Sunday (February 8), was also very special.

It was hard to tell, looking at the support the Nepal side got against England during their opening encounter of the T20 World Cup 2026 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, whether it was their home game or not. They nearly completed the chase, but surely put the opposition under pressure in the second innings before falling short of gaining the momentum at the last moment.

The Nepal Women’s Team also supported their boys as the video went viral on the social media platforms, where their women’s team was seen to be cheering for the boys and dancing when Sandeep Lamichhane picked up the wicket of Tom Banton, who was trapped leg before the stumps in the afternoon.
