The quarterfinals of the 2025–26 Vijay Hazare Trophy ended on Tuesday, January 13. Punjab, Karnataka, Vidarbha, and Saurashtra qualified for the semifinals. Madhya Pradesh, Mumbai, Delhi, and Uttar Pradesh were knocked out of the tournament.

Several international players were unavailable due to the ongoing India–New Zealand ODI series. Players like Shreyas Iyer and Rishabh Pant did not feature, which affected the performance of Mumbai and Delhi. Meanwhile, batters such as Prabhsimran Singh, Anmolpreet Singh, Shams Mulani, and Sameer Rizvi impressed with strong performances.

In this article, we look at five big IPL players who failed to perform in the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025–26 quarterfinals.

1. Venkatesh Iyer

Madhya Pradesh captain and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) all-rounder Venkatesh Iyer had a poor outing with the bat. He was dismissed for a two-ball duck, lbw to Sanvir Singh, as Punjab defeated Madhya Pradesh by 183 runs. In the 2025–26 Vijay Hazare Trophy, he scored 176 runs in eight innings at a strike rate of 25.14, including one half-century. With the ball, he took seven wickets in six innings at an economy rate of 5.54. RCB bought him for INR 7 crore ahead of the IPL 2026 season.

2. Angkrish Raghuvanshi

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) batter Angkrish Raghuvanshi failed to make an impact against Karnataka. He scored 27 runs off 50 balls at a low strike rate of 54. The 21-year-old earlier impressed with scores of 92 and 68 not out against Maharashtra and Chhattisgarh. However, his other scores were 38, 11, 11, 23, and 27. KKR retained him for INR 3 crore for IPL 2026. With no Iyer in the squad, Raghuvanshi will have an important role next season.

3. Nitish Rana

Delhi Capitals (DC) batter Nitish Rana was out for a golden duck against Vidarbha in the quarterfinal. Delhi lost the match by 76 runs and failed to reach the semifinals. Rana finished the tournament with 255 runs in eight innings at an average of 42.50, including two half-centuries. He was traded to DC ahead of the IPL 2026 auction for INR 4.2 crore, with Donovan Ferreira moving to the Rajasthan Royals in exchange.

4. Rinku Singh

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) batter and Uttar Pradesh captain Rinku Singh struggled in the quarterfinal against Saurashtra. He scored 13 runs off 20 balls and went wicketless in two overs, giving away 15 runs. Uttar Pradesh lost the match by 17 runs.

Overall, Rinku scored 421 runs in eight matches at an average of 105.25, with one century and three half-centuries. He also took two wickets in the tournament. He will next play T20Is against New Zealand before the IPL 2026 season.

5. Zeeshan Ansari

Uttar Pradesh leg-spinner Zeeshan Ansari also had a disappointing quarterfinal. He did not take a wicket and conceded 46 runs in nine overs. Despite this, he is the joint-highest wicket-taker of the tournament with 21 wickets in eight innings. SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) retained him for his base price of INR 40 lakh ahead of IPL 2026. Last season, he took six wickets in 10 IPL matches at an economy rate of 9.84. After his strong Vijay Hazare Trophy performance, he will aim to continue the form in the IPL.

<![CDATA[Who Is Vishal Jayswal? Meet the Gujarat Bowler Who Dismissed Virat Kohli in Delhi vs Gujarat Match in the Vijay Hazare Trophy]]> https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/who-is-vishal-jayswal-meet-the-gujarat-bowler-who-dismissed-virat-kohli-in-delhi-vs-gujarat-match-in-the-vijay-hazare-trophy/ https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/who-is-vishal-jayswal-meet-the-gujarat-bowler-who-dismissed-virat-kohli-in-delhi-vs-gujarat-match-in-the-vijay-hazare-trophy/ Fri, 26 Dec 2025 17:55:06 GMT

The second round of matches in the Vijay Hazare Trophy is being played today, and all eyes are on Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, who scored centuries a few days ago. However, it was a complete anti-climax as Rohit was out for a golden duck. Kohli, on the other hand, played brilliantly, scoring 77 runs off 61 balls with 13 fours and a six. Just when it seemed he might notch up his 59th List A century, Gujarat left-arm spinner Vishal Jayswal dismissed him, stumped by Urvil Patel.

The 27-year-old prodigy is a slow left-arm orthodox spinner who has played 11 first-class, 12 List A, and 16 T20 matches since debuting for Gujarat in 2022. He was playing his 13th List A game and had taken only five wickets before this match. In the Delhi clash, Jayswal impressed by picking up three key wickets, including Kohli, and conceding only 25 runs in eight overs. He also dismissed Arpit Rana and Nitish Rana during his spell.

Jayswal capped off a stellar day with figures of 4 for 42 from 10 overs, dismantling Delhi’s batting lineup. He removed opener Arpit Rana (10) and Nitish Rana (12) early, then stumped Virat Kohli for 77 in the 22nd over with the help of keeper Urvil Patel. Later, he claimed Delhi captain Rishabh Pant for 70 in the 44th over, just as Pant was building a strong innings. In Gujarat’s opening match, Jayswal had also taken one wicket in their eight-wicket win over Services.

Experienced Indian cricketer Nitish Rana was in fiery form for Delhi during a Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT 2025) match at Motera in Ahmedabad against Saurashtra. While Rana, the captain of Delhi, went to bat in the first innings of the match, he smashed 3 sixes in an over of Dharmendrasinh Jadeja.

Priyansh Arya's early departure did not harm the Delhi cricket team too much, as Yash Dhull and Rana were in good touch. Dhull scored 47 off 30 balls with seven boundaries and one over boundary; Rana got 76 runs against 41 balls. During this time, the seasoned batter hit three boundaries and seven over-boundaries, which took his strike rate to 185.37.

Rana's peak was during the 13th over of the first innings, when Saurashtra spinner Dharmendrasinh Jadeja was in action. In this over, the left-handed batter hit three maximums—two sixes on the leg side and one straight over the bowler's head; an expensive over for Saurahstra. The over proved vital, as Delhi won the contest for only 10 runs.

3 sixes in an over for Nitish Rana

Batting first, Delhi registered 207 runs in exchange for 4 wickets. Delhi captain Nitish Rana, who scored 76, was the highest run-scorer in the match. Despite that one expensive over, Jadeja's 3-over spell remained at 30 runs for one wicket. The spinner got the scalp of Yash Dhull.

H Desai and Prerak Mankad kept Saurashtra in the fight during the second winning with their sensible, attacking batting. Mankad scored 50 runs in 28 balls with three boundaries and three over boundaries; for Desai, it was 32 off 19. But the other batters of Saurashtra's batting lineup remained mostly quiet and allowed Delhi to take the match away from them. For Delhi, Suyash Sharma picked up three wickets.

The Delhi Capitals, during the trade window ahead of the 2026 season of the Indian Premier League (IPL), added the middle-order Indian batter, Nitish Rana, to the squad as he moved from the Rajasthan Royals to his state team, where the southpaw enjoyed an excellent time in the middle order of the eleven. Rana is yet to feature for the Delhi side in the IPL.

The left-handed batter, Nitish Rana, who made his IPL debut in 2016, featured for the Mumbai Indians in the first couple of seasons before shifting his base to the Kolkata Knight Riders from 2018 to 2024, where he also captained the franchise when Shreyas Iyer was ruled out of the 2023 season due to injury. Rana has overall smashed 2853 runs in 112 innings of the IPL at an average of 27.97 with the help of 20 fifties at the best score of 87.

In the previous season of the IPL for the Rajasthan Royals, the left-handed batter collected 217 runs in 11 innings at an average of 21.70 and a strike rate of 161.94, with the help of two half-centuries at the best score of 81.

Rana’s best season of the IPL came in 2023 as he smashed 413 runs in 14 innings at an average of around 32 and a strike rate of 140.95 with the help of three fifties at the best score of 75. From the 2017 season to 2023, the left-handed batter crossed the 300-run mark in an IPL season for seven straight years.

Rana’s inclusion will be incredibly vital for the Axar Patel-led Capitals’ side as he would take care of the middle order, thanks to his excellent skill against the spinners to counter with the big shots and rotating the strike.

Rana has overall collected 4848 runs in 193 innings of the shortest format at an average of 28 and a strike rate of 135.91 with the help of 32 half-centuries and a century at the best score of 107 runs. Last year, Delhi failed to qualify for the playoffs despite going through a cracking first half of the event.

<![CDATA['God’s Plan' - Rinku Singh reveals story behind his famous phrase ahead of the 2025 Asia Cup]]> https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/god-s-plan-rinku-singh-reveals-story-behind-his-famous-phrase-ahead-of-the-2025-asia-cup/ https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/god-s-plan-rinku-singh-reveals-story-behind-his-famous-phrase-ahead-of-the-2025-asia-cup/ Wed, 10 Sep 2025 13:44:11 GMT

India batter Rinku Singh has opened up about the origins of his popular phrase, “God’s plan.” The 27-year-old shared the story during a YouTube podcast with Raj Shamani, released on Tuesday, September 9. Rinku explained how the phrase came to be a part of his life and why he still uses it to guide him through his journey as a cricketer.

The left-hander revealed that he first came across the phrase at a party he attended with his former Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) teammate Nitish Rana. He recalled that Rana turned DJ for the night and played the famous track God’s Plan by Drake, which left a deep impression on him. Since then, the song and its meaning have stayed with Rinku.

“Nitish (Rana) Bhai, we had gone for a little party, and there he became a bit of a DJ. Bhaiya played a song; it was God’s Plan by Drake, so from there everything started. From there I started listening to songs. Bhaiya explained to me that these are the meanings of this song: always trust God. So from there, things began,” Rinku said.

Faith, Hard Work, and Positive Thinking

Rinku Singh continued to discuss how the phrase "God's plan" has molded his thinking on and off the field. He said whilst you can put in the effort and work hard, you still need faith in the Almighty. It has always been about trusting God and trusting in his own work.

“God’s plan is exactly this scene because I have always trusted the One above, because above, it is only the One above who is everything. And your hard work is your hard work. If you are working hard with a true heart and you are not thinking badly of anyone, then that becomes very helpful for you,” he said. Rinku added that he believes good intentions towards others reflect positively in one’s own journey, reinforcing his simple philosophy: “Think good for others, focus on your own game, and trust the One above.”

The southpaw, who is part of India’s squad for the Asia Cup 2025, has already made a mark in international cricket.
He has featured in 33 T20Is, scoring 546 runs at an impressive average of 42.00 and a strike rate of 161.06, including three half-centuries. Rinku has also played two ODIs, tallying 55 runs in limited opportunities.

The Eliminator of the Delhi Premier League 2025 had all the ingredients of a high-stakes clash for fans, including big runs, high-pressure scenarios, and an on-field spat. After tempers boiled over during their tussle at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, West Delhi Lions captain Nitish Rana and South Delhi Superstarz spinner Digvesh Rathi found themselves in the spotlight.

The trouble began in the third over of the chase, when Rathi appeared to play some mind games by taking too long to deliver the ball. Rana, who plays hard, was unhappy with this. When Rana hit a six off Rathi's reverse sweep, he proceeded to give the spinner a taste of his own by mimicking his celebration, and this appeared to take things too far. The exchange of gestures evolved into a spat, which umpires needed to put a stop to.

After the match, Rana shared his side of the story

"I don't initiate these things; he tried to irritate me. If someone tries to poke me, I will always poke back; that's my game," he said. "Respect for the game is important, though people need to realize that every time you poke me, the best of my batting will come out."

Rana’s comment mattered, especially given the subsequent events in the middle. While chasing a difficult target of 202, the left-hander delivered a tremendous experience. He smashed a majestic 134 not out off 55 balls, including eight boundaries and a whopping 15 sixes. His explosive innings turned the game on its head, as he guided the Lions to a convincing seven-wicket victory with almost three overs to spare.

Match referees later found Rathi and Rana guilty of their actions on the field, imposing penalties that involved losing 80% of Rathi's match fee and 50% of Rana's match fee, a clear sign that both players went too far. Despite the punishment, the way Rana dominated the ball ensured he walked away with the victory and the Player of the Match award.

When asked about his character and playing style, Rana insisted that his upbringing influenced his no-nonsense attitude.
"My parents always told me that if I am right, I should never back down. I'm not going to start a fight, but if you make me. I'll give it back. That is me on the field and off the field," he said.

The Lions’ victory has set up a blockbuster final against the Central Delhi Kings, and with Rana in this sort of form, they will certainly go into the title clash loaded with confidence.

Digvesh Rathi and Nitish Rana were fined heavily for their heated moment during South Delhi Superstarz vs. West Delhi Lions Delhi Premier League (DPL) 2025 Eliminator at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.

Heat started to increase during an over of Superstarz's spinner Digvesh Rathi when West Delhi Lions captain Nitish Rana was on strike. After a huge six from Rana, Rathi lost his cool. Rana too lost his calmness and engaged in a verbal spat. Other players on the field and the umpire rushed to the spot to normalize the situation. By that time, both of the players had breached the rules. For which, they now have to pay hefty fines.

According to the latest updates, Rathi was fined 80 percent of his match fee for a Code of Conduct breach under Article 2.2—"conduct contrary to the spirit of the game." And on the other side, Rana was fined 50 percent of his match fee for a Code of Conduct breach under Article 2.6 (Level 1), which pertains to "using a gesture that is obscene, offensive, or insulting during a match."

The cause of the incident actually rooted deep in the over, before Rana's over-boundary. During the over, Rathi denied a delivery when he was about to release the ball. Rana was all set to swing the bat, but as Rathi cancelled his delivery, the batter only did a shadow practice of a sweep shot. The experienced batter then decided to give Rathi a taste of his own medicine. In the following delivery, the experienced batter hoisted the ball for a long six, and then there was an explosion of a verbal exchange, which attracted the penalties.

At the end of the day, Rana and his team had the last laugh, as they were able to successfully do a thrilling chase of 202 and secure their place in Qualifier 2 against the East Delhi Riders. Rana played a captain's knock, guiding his team from the front by scoring 134 off 55 balls.

Chasing 202, WDL lost a couple of early wickets, but captain Nitish Rana turned the game into a one-man show. He played a breathtaking knock of 134 runs off just 55 balls, smashing 13 fours and 8 sixes. A heated argument and physical altercation between Nitish Rana and Digvesh Rathi occurred during the 2025 season of the Delhi Premier League (DPL) at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi. The viral clip of their engagement was shared by the tournament’s social media accounts as it moved around the internet within seconds.

The brawl during the T20 game happened after both players looked to play mind games against each other at the start of the over, after the southpaw batter looked to settle the batter by sweeping the spinner for a huge six, which burnt the fire of the players exchanging words. It didn’t go down well with the left-handed batter as he aggressively charged towards Rathi.

Rana’s non-striker partner and all team mates of Rathi tried to cool down the situation by pulling the individuals away from each other, as it was also a vital eliminator clash of the event between the West Delhi Lions and the South Delhi Superstarz.

In the do-or-die fixture for both franchises, Rana smacked Rathi for a four on the second ball of the opening over and then cracked the next three balls for successive sixes. In Rathi’s next over as well, the left-handed batter notched up another four on the second ball and two over-boundaries on the third and sixth deliveries.

The 25-year-old spinner from Delhi, Rathi, featured for the Lucknow Super Giants in the Indian Premier League and showed his incredible skills with the ball throughout the competition. During the eliminator, he ended with figures of 0/39 in his quota of two overs. Among those 39 runs, 38 were drilled by Rana alone in 11 deliveries.

During the 202-run chase, the West Delhi captain, Nitish Rana, remained unbeaten on 134 runs in just 55 deliveries at a strike rate of 243.64, thanks to eight over boundaries and 15 boundaries as they made the successful chase of the score in the second innings by seven wickets with 17 balls to spare. They have now qualified for the second qualifier fixture against the East Delhi Lions on August 30 at the same ground.
