India women’s captain Harmanpreet Kaur has changed her jersey numbers with different milestones in her life and their unique stories were all remarkable. When she started playing, she chose number 84 which was picked by her mom to mark and remember the victims of the 1984 riots. The number was very dear to Harmanpreet and it gave her great pleasure to see her early years in cricket with a very big and deep meaning.

Subsequently, she moved to number 7, which was inspired by her time in school and was further strengthened by her admiration for MS Dhoni, who is very well known for using the same number. Number 7 was like a trademark of her daring leadership and fierce style of play, defining much of her time as India’s star batter and captain.

However, in November 2024, when India’s new ODI jersey was unveiled in Mumbai, Harmanpreet went against the grain and showed off her jersey with number 23 rather than 7. This unanticipated action intrigued not only her fans but also the experts.
