Oval Invincibles Women were beaten by 8 wickets by London Spirit Women in the 29th match of The Hundred Women's 2025. Invincibles could only accumulate 108/8 with the bat, with Marizanne Kapp (32), Paige Scholfield (22), and Meg Lanning (19) being the main scorers. It was a very easy run chase for London Spirit as they reached 112/2 in 62 balls, after a superb knock from Kira Chathli. The margin of the result was indicative of the difference in execution and determination between the two sides. Below are the main reasons for the Oval Invincibles Women defeat.

1. Weak batting performance

Oval Invincibles could never form any meaningful partnerships as they continued to lose wickets at regular intervals, with Kapp (32 off 25), Scholfield (22 off 21) and Lanning (19 off 20) making the only meaningful scores. Perhaps with no help from some of the batsmen, the total of 108/8 was well short of par.

2. Spirit’s bowling dominance

The London Spirit bowlers never relented, able to build pressure continually and take wickets at telling moments. Charlotte Dean was the pick of the bowlers with 2/12, and Eva Gray picked up 2/12 in her spell. The bowlers executed their plans and ensured the Invincibles couldn't score freely, putting them continually on the back foot.

3. Confident chase from Spirit

London Spirit’s top order ensured there were no hiccups in the chase. Kira Chathli smashed 53 from 29 balls, supported well by Georgia Redmayne with 42 from 30. Their aggressive intent saw the team cruise home in just 62 balls, highlighting the gulf in confidence.

Northern Superchargers Women put on a solid all-round show to beat Oval Invincibles Women by 7 wickets, chasing down 126 with five balls left. Their bowlers kept things tight before the batters wrapped up the chase calmly.

The Invincibles never really got going. Captain Lauren Winfield-Hill tried to hold things together with 37 from 30 balls, while Joanne Gardner chipped in with an unbeaten 19 off 14. Meg Lanning made 21 from 25 but struggled for fluency. With wickets falling regularly, they couldn’t build a strong partnership. Kate Cross (2/16) and Annabel Sutherland (2/26) bowled with good control and made life tough for the batters.

In reply, the Superchargers looked comfortable. Alice Davidson-Richards led the way with a classy 50 from 32 balls, hitting nine fours. Phoebe Litchield supported her well with 29 from 21. Later, Nicola Carey finished the job quickly with 25 off just 15 balls. The Invincibles tried hard, and Amanda-Jade Wellington stood out with 1/19, but they couldn’t stop the Superchargers from crossing the line.

Oval Invincibles Women had a challenging match against the Northern Superchargers Women in match 25 of The Hundred Women's 2025. Batting first, The top order of the Invincibles failed to ignite their innings and were restricted to just 125/6 in 100 balls. The Superchargers reached the target with an easy 7 wickets in hand with 5 balls to spare, getting 127/3 in 95 balls. The loss by seven wickets exposed the three departments of the Invincibles—batting, bowling, and overall execution—where they were lacking. Here are the main reasons why Oval Invincibles Women lost the match.

1. Batting Failure and Missing Partnerships

Oval Invincibles’ innings never managed to get off the ground because early wickets stalled the innings. Lauren Winfield-Hill’s 37 (30) and Meg Lanning’s 21 (25) provided starts, but no big stand developed. With Joanne Gardner’s cameo of 19 (14), the total of 125/6 was well below par.

2. Superchargers’ Disciplined Bowling

The Superchargers’ bowlers kept things tight and struck at regular intervals. Kate Cross starred with 2/16 (20), while Annabel Sutherland supported with 2/26 (20). Grace Ballinger also chipped in, ensuring Invincibles never accelerated.

3. Davidson-Richards’ Match-Winning Knock

Trent Rockets Women put up a strong all-round show to defeat Oval Invincibles Women by 6 wickets. Invincibles batted first and they managed only 109 runs in 7 Wickets. Captain Meg Lanning fought hard with 45 runs, but she got little support from the other batters. Alice Capsey made 18 and Maia Bouchier added 14, but wickets kept falling. Rockets’ bowlers were excellent, with Ashleigh Gardner (2/4) and Kirstie Gordon (2/8) making scoring very difficult.

Chasing 110, the Rockets never looked in trouble. Grace Scrivens gave them a solid start with 34 runs from 27 balls. Even after losing a couple of wickets, the target was always under control. Young Jodi Grewcock stayed unbeaten on 21 from 14 balls, and Heather Graham added a quick (19 runs not out) to finish the chase. Rockets reached 113/4 in 84 balls, winning with 16 balls left. It was a complete performance from Rockets tight bowling, smart batting, and a comfortable win to take confidence into the next games.

Oval Invincibles Women were defeated by six wickets against Trent Rockets Women in Match 23 of The Hundred Women's 2025. Batting first, Invincibles scored only 109/7 from their 100 balls, led by Meg Lanning with 45 runs from 35 balls. The Rockets, under the leadership of bowlers Ashleigh Gardner and Kirstie Gordon, restricted the Invincibles during the entire innings. Rockets bowled out Invincibles in just 84 balls, easily reaching 113/4 with a commitment to chasing down the target. Here are the top reasons why Oval Invincibles Women lost the match.

1. Below-Par Batting Effort

The innings of the Invincibles were never up to the mark, as they ended up with only 109/7. Meg Lanning’s score of 45 was the only bright light, as she received very little support from her partners Lanning (16)* and Alice Capsey (15)*. The Invincibles did not build partnerships nor rotate the strike to make a score that was defendable.

2. Rockets’ Bowlers Dominating

Trent Rockets’ attack was disciplined and effective, striking at crucial moments. Ashleigh Gardner (2/10 in 10 balls) and Kirstie Gordon (2/21 in 20 balls) were excellent, and Alexa Stonehouse added 1/5. The effectiveness of their combined work was the main reason why Oval Invincibles did not take off.

3. Confident Chase by Rockets

The Rockets’ batters approached the target with composure and intent, never allowing pressure to build. Grace Scrivens anchored with 34 off 27, supported by Bryony Smith (24) and Jodi Grewcock (21*). Their balanced effort sealed the win with 16 balls to spare.

Southern Brave Women played a complete game and outclassed Oval Invincibles Women with an 89-run win, the biggest margin of this season so far. Batting first, Brave scored 161/6 in 100 balls. Laura Wolvaardt (36 off 19), Maia Bouchier (34 off 23), and Sophie Devine (19 off 14) set the tone at the top. In the end, Freya Kemp and captain Georgia Adams added quick runs to take the total past 160. Marizanne Kapp and Amanda-Jade Wellington tried hard with the ball, but Brave looked in control.

Chasing 162, Oval Invincibles never found momentum. They were bowled out for just 72 in 83 balls. Sophie Devine (2/8) and Lauren Bell (2/11) struck early, leaving the top order in trouble. Only Amanda-Jade Wellington (18) showed some fight. The rest fell cheaply as Mady Villiers (3/17) and skipper Adams (2/2) wrapped things up, giving Brave a huge and confident win.

The Oval Invincibles Women lost the plot and were dominated by the Southern Brave Women in Match 19 of the Hundred Women's 2025, as they suffered a heavy 89-run defeat. Chasing 162, they were bundled out for just 72 in 83 balls as Brave’s bowlers dominated throughout. Sophie Devine (19 off 14 & 2/15) and Mady Villiers (3/17) starred with all-round brilliance, while Laura Wolvaardt (36 off 19) and Maia Bouchier (34 off 23) set up the total. The Invincibles never recovered from early setbacks and suffered a crushing defeat. Here are the main reasons why Oval Invincibles Women lost the game.

1. Ruthless Early Wicket-taking by Southern Brave

Batting for Oval Invincibles was a disaster early on as Sophie Devine took out top-order batsmen while Lauren Bell (2/11) then struck with back-to-back deliveries from the other end. Lauren Winfield-Hill (10) and Marizanne Kapp (10) failed to convert starts, leaving the side struggling at 28/4. The lack of stability put them under immense pressure.

2. Dominant Bowling by Southern Brave

Southern Brave's bowling was on point, with Mady Villiers spearheading the assault with 3/17 in 4 overs. Devine (2/15) and Georgia Adams (2/8) effectively squeezed the batting gradually and no bowler was left to clean up the wickets of the Invincibles. Those who played for so long were brought down by their rigorous petty mistakes.

3. Poor Batting Response Under Pressure

The Invincibles' chase fell apart easily and they finished with 72 all out in 83 balls chasing 162—losing by a massive 89 runs. They never seemed to get any real partnerships going, as they were consistently losing wickets early and under constant pressure from the bowlers. The lack of a recovery period to eventually rotate the strike under the increasing levels of pressure conducted them to their end.

Oval Invincibles Women put on a strong show at home, beating Welsh Fire Women by 39 runs. Alice Capsey and Marizanne Kapp shone with the bat, while Sophia Smale and Amanda-Jade Wellington did the job with the ball.

The hosts lost captain Winfield-Hill on the first ball, but Alice Capsey’s quick 55 off 34 brought the innings to life. Meg Lanning added 23 runs, and Marizanne Kapp’s powerful 47 off 32 gave the team control. Amanda-Jade Wellington’s 17 off 9 balls helped them finish at 150 in their 100 balls.

Chasing 151, Sophia Dunkley fought hard with a fine 56 off 41 balls. But wickets kept falling around her, and once she was dismissed, Welsh Fire collapsed. None of the other batters crossed 16 as Invincibles’ bowlers kept it tight. Welsh Fire were bowled out for 111, handing Oval Invincibles a comfortable win.

<![CDATA[[WATCH] Amanda-Jade Wellington pulls off a stunning no-look run out to catch Emma Lamb short of her crease in The Hundred]]> https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/watch-amanda-jade-wellington-pulls-off-a-stunning-no-look-run-out-to-catch-emma-lamb-short-of-her-crease-in-the-hundred/ https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/watch-amanda-jade-wellington-pulls-off-a-stunning-no-look-run-out-to-catch-emma-lamb-short-of-her-crease-in-the-hundred/ Wed, 13 Aug 2025 07:28:41 GMT

Amanda-Jade Wellington of Oval Invincibles stood out in yesterday's Women's Hundred fixture against Birmingham Phoenix, thanks to her extraordinary brilliance on the field. Although she missed out with the willow and perished without troubling the scorers, she made it up by pulling off a spectacular no-look run out to catch the in-form Emma Lamb off guard. The dismissal came at a critical time for Oval Invincibles as they were able to put the brakes on and restrict the home side to 152.

Tasked with chasing 175, Birmingham Phoenix were regularly jolted by the fall of wickets. However, this no-look run-out dismissal came to light during the 59th ball of the run chase. Wellington bowled a leg-side delivery, which Lamb was able to work it away towards deep mid-wicket. She played it well to place the ball into the gap, but wasn't expecting a rocket-arm throw from the deep. Franklin, the fielder in the deep, released the ball quickly and threw it towards the non-striker's end.

Wellington anticipated the throw to perfection and almost immediately flicked it back onto the stumps after collecting the ball. Interestingly, she wasn't even looking back, but her throw turned out to be accurate as the ball went on to crash into the stumps. Lamb was left agonizingly short of her crease as she fell prey to the outstanding fielding effort from both Franklin and Wellington combined.

Watch the video here:

Lamb was eventually run out for 25, making her the third-highest run scorer for Birmingham Phoenix. Sadly, her departure caused Birmingham Phoenix to lose a little bit of momentum during the run chase. The team struggled to regroup after that blow and found it difficult to keep up with the asking rate. Before her eventual demise, Lamb played a very instrumental role in holding Birmingham Phoenix's innings together. Ailsa Lister tried to salvage the game and slammed a courageous 33 (18) to take the home side close, but failed to get them over the line, thus handing the Invincibles a convincing 22-run victory.
