We have had a good start to the Women's Big Bash League 2025. The 5th game is underway, with the defending champions, Melbourne Renegades Women, facing the Sydney Thunder Women. The Renegades Women started with a win, defeating the Brisbane Heat Women, while the Sydney Thunder Women suffered a loss against the Hobart Hurricanes Women in their first game.

The Melbourne Renegades Women have an impressive record against the Sydney Thunder Women. Starting the tournament with a win will give them confidence. The Sydney Thunder Women's last game was a struggle with the ball and they need to improve in that area.

India met Australia during the second semifinal of the Women’s World Cup 2025 at the Dr DY Patil Sports Academy in Navi Mumbai. Australia’s left-handed opening batter, Phoebe Litchfield, started with an aggressive approach inside the first 10 overs of the innings despite losing their captain and right-handed opener, Alyssa Healy, in the first few overs.

But Phoebe Litchfield was in a different mood with two successive boundaries in the eighth over of the innings. She squeezed Kranti Gaud over the infield before timing the right-arm pacer over the square region for another boundary. Australia managed 72 runs in the first 10 overs, which was their fourth-highest score in this period during the event.

Litchfield advanced down the track to smash Shree Charani for a boundary to celebrate her ninth fifty in Women’s ODIs. She smashed a fine six over the cover against the same bowler before celebrating her century in the blink of an eye with the boundary. That was her maiden century in the World Cup.

Litchfield becomes the third batter to celebrate centuries in ODI World Cup knockouts, along with Karen Rolton against India in the 2005 final in Centurion, while Healy notched up 170 and 129 against England and the West Indies, respectively, in the final and semifinal of the 2022 Women’s World Cup. She smacked Deepti Sharma for two successive sixes and took the aggressive approach with the bat.

Against India, the southpaw has now scored 627 runs in the 50-over format at an average of nearly 70 and a strike rate of 96.61 with two centuries and four half-centuries to her name. Her knock in this semifinal ended with 119 runs in just 93 balls, thanks to 17 boundaries and three sixes.

The knock was enough to give Australia a strong platform with the bat in the knockout clash. It’s also the fastest century in Women’s World Cup knockouts. Australia have raced their way to over 250 in 40 overs and looked set to get themselves beyond the 320-run mark.

Australia’s young batting sensation Phoebe Litchfield lit up the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai on Thursday with a stunning century in the Women’s ODI World Cup 2025 semifinal against India. The 22-year-old opener smashed the fastest hundred ever recorded in a Women’s World Cup knockout match, reaching the milestone in just 77 balls. Her knock of 119 off 93 deliveries included 18 fours and three sixes.

Litchfield’s innings was not only blistering but also crucial, propelling Australia to a commanding position in a high-pressure semifinal. It was her third ODI century, second against India, and first of the ongoing World Cup. With this innings, she also became the youngest player (22 years, 195 days) to score a century in a Women’s World Cup knockout and the second-youngest Australian to achieve the feat in tournament history.

Before this match, Litchfield had already established herself as a consistent performer against India, amassing 508 runs in eight innings at an average of 63.50. Her latest effort pushed that average beyond 75, a remarkable number against one of the strongest bowling attacks in women’s cricket.

Litchfield’s command of sweep and reverse-sweep shots proved particularly devastating for India’s spinners. She was briefly given out on 62 after a reverse sweep appeared to carry to short third, but replays confirmed a bump ball, a lifeline she fully capitalised on to reach three figures. Her hundred places her among elite company in Australia’s World Cup history.

Eventually, Amanjot Kaur ended Litchfield’s onslaught in the 28th over, but the damage was already done. Her fearless century not only reaffirmed her status as one of the most exciting young batters in world cricket but also carried Australia one step closer to another World Cup final.

Northern Superchargers Women put on a solid all-round show to beat Oval Invincibles Women by 7 wickets, chasing down 126 with five balls left. Their bowlers kept things tight before the batters wrapped up the chase calmly.

The Invincibles never really got going. Captain Lauren Winfield-Hill tried to hold things together with 37 from 30 balls, while Joanne Gardner chipped in with an unbeaten 19 off 14. Meg Lanning made 21 from 25 but struggled for fluency. With wickets falling regularly, they couldn’t build a strong partnership. Kate Cross (2/16) and Annabel Sutherland (2/26) bowled with good control and made life tough for the batters.

In reply, the Superchargers looked comfortable. Alice Davidson-Richards led the way with a classy 50 from 32 balls, hitting nine fours. Phoebe Litchield supported her well with 29 from 21. Later, Nicola Carey finished the job quickly with 25 off just 15 balls. The Invincibles tried hard, and Amanda-Jade Wellington stood out with 1/19, but they couldn’t stop the Superchargers from crossing the line.

Northern Superchargers Women stayed unbeaten in The Hundred 2025 after beating London Spirit Women by 8 wickets. Spirit batted first but never looked settled and ended with just 90/8. Annabel Sutherland, Grace Ballinger, and Nicola Carey kept striking at the right times. Georgia Redmayne scored 29 from 29, and Issy Wong added an unbeaten 24 to give Spirit some late runs.

The Spirit batters struggled from the start, losing wickets regularly. Redmayne held one end, and Wong’s late knock gave them some hope, but the total was too small to trouble the Superchargers.

Chasing the modest target, Superchargers lost two early wickets to Rebecca Tysons. But Phoebe Litchfield played a fine innings of 55 not out, with support from Annabel Sutherland (29*). Together, they carried the team home with 34 balls to spare.
