In Match 69 of IPL 2025, Punjab Kings (PBKS) triumphed over Mumbai Indians (MI) by 7 wickets in a match held at Sawai Mansingh Stadium, Jaipur, on May 26, 2025. After winning the toss, PBKS decided to bowl first, and they limited MI to 184/7, which was below par on a pitch that encouraged batting. Suryakumar Yadav scored 57 off 39 balls with beautiful strokes, while Ryan Rickelton (27 off 20) and Hardik Pandya (26 off 15) also got starts but could not go on. PBKS used their bowling attack relentlessly, proving too much for MI. Arshdeep Singh (2/28) had a lively spell, as did Marco Jansen (2/34) and Vyshak Vijay Kumar (2/44), keeping MI at bay.

MI was very poor with the ball for their defense of the target, as PBKS openers Josh Inglis (73 off 42) and Priyansh Arya (62 off 35) came out firing. The openers put on a rapid 109 partnership before the wheels completely fell off for MI, as they crumbled to PBKS' total of 187/3 in 18.3 overs, with Shreyas Iyer finishing the innings on 26* off 16 balls. MI's bowlers struggled to slow PBKS down, with only Jasprit Bumrah (1/23) turning in an economical performance. Mitchell Santner (2/41) and Will Jacks (0/11) had no answer. The convincing victory gave PBKS a top 2 finish, with MI finishing the tournament on a sour note. Here are the key reasons that MI lost to PBKS.

1. Underwhelming Batting Effort

Mumbai Indians (MI) finished 184/7 in 20 overs on a good batting wicket (with a total approximately 15-20 runs short); Suryakumar Yadav scored 57 (39), but Ryan Rickelton (27 off 20) and Hardik Pandya (26 off 15) failed to drive the innings due to their lack of intent. Punjab Kings (PBKS) eased to 187/3 in 18.3 overs through Josh Inglis (73 off 42) and Priyansh Arya (62 off 35).

2. Ineffective Bowling and Fielding

MI bowling struggled after Deepak Chahar's injury. Jasprit Bumrah went unchanged in the powerplay and took 1/23 in 4 overs. PBKS seized the momentum with a partnership of 109 by Inglis/Aryas, with Shreyas Iyer (26* off 16) finishing the game, and MI's abysmal fielding enhanced the struggle. The circumstances continued to gain momentum for Punjab during the chase.

3. Tactical and Captaincy Errors

Hardik Pandya's captaincy was overly passive, and failing to use Bumrah in the early overs of the powerplay was particularly egregious given the fact that MI lost Chahar's services; this is the immediate tactical mistake MI made to re-enter the game after the loss of Chahar's bowling in the 4th over. Once PBKS was set and building the momentum, MI failed to disrupt them at any stage, and they ended up losing the game by 7 wickets with PBKS finishing in the top 2 in IPL 2025.

Weather and Pitch Report

On May 26, 2025, weather conditions in Jaipur are predicted to be warm, from 28°C to 32°C, and humidity between 25% and 35%. The chance of rain is also low (~10%), with drier weather in the forecast. The Sawai Mansingh Stadium pitch is known to be batting friendly, with good pace and bounce in the early stages of play, and short boundaries should produce some big scores. The surface tends to slow down in the second half of the innings, though, which will aid spin bowlers in the middle overs. There should be dew later in the evening, so chasing should be the option, as 64% (40/63) of the second batting teams have won in this venue. For tactical reasons, Captains winning the toss should expect to bowl first as well.

PBKS vs MI: Match Preview

Despite a six-wicket loss to Delhi Capitals, PBKS come into this game with bowling concerns (Yuzvendra Chahal is likely not play, because of a wrist injury), but the batting is still in good shape Prabhsimran Singh and Priyansh Arya are providing explosive starts at the top, Shreyas Iyer and Marcus Stoinis can anchor the middle order, and they provide firepower at the death with their key bowler Arshdeep Singh sitting on 16 wickets.

MI is in great shape coming off a dominant display against Delhi, and Suryakumar Yadav's 73* saw him finish the campaign with 583 runs. Rohit Sharma and Hardik Pandya provide the right level of experience and depth at the top before MI can unleash Bumrah and Boult at the death. While MI has a superior run rate and experience, Rohit's battle with left-arm seamers like Arshdeep and left-arm spinners like Ravi Bishnoi could become a critical match-up in this game.

<![CDATA[ IPL: Good news for RCB fans Australian star player return to RCB]]> https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/ipl-good-news-for-rcb-fans-australian-star-player-return-to-rcb/ https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/ipl-good-news-for-rcb-fans-australian-star-player-return-to-rcb/ Sun, 25 May 2025 00:47:24 GMT

The Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) picked up a massive addition to the team heading into the critical final stage of IPL 2025 in the shape of Josh Hazlewood, who is set to return to the squad following injury concerns and an international schedule. Hazlewood had missed a significant portion of the tournament due to a shoulder injury and was undergoing rehabilitation back in Australia. His timely recovery comes as a welcome relief for RCB, who are aiming to clinch their first-ever IPL title.

Hazlewood was in excellent form before his injury, having taken 18 wickets in 10 matches at an impressive average of 17.28. He was among the top wicket-takers in the tournament, showcasing his ability to deliver under pressure. With his return, RCB’s bowling unit gets a crucial reinforcement, especially with Lungi Ngidi set to leave for national duty ahead of the World Test Championship final.

The Bangalore-based franchise has already qualified for the playoffs with 17 points in the group stage. The inclusion of Hazlewood not only adds firepower to their pace attack but also brings in valuable experience during high-stakes matches. The franchise made a very laidback announcement via social media in a coded way, but RCB fans, some of the most rabid fans on social media, found an image of the cricket kit and took a clear hint since it was wrapped in Cricket Australia's branding all over the bags. RCB fans, who have long waited for silverware, have every reason to be optimistic with this latest development.

Tim Seifert Joins RCB Squad in Front of LSG Clash

In addition to the availability of Josh Hazlewood, Royal Challengers Bengaluru confirmed that Tim Seifert of New Zealand is also joining their squad. Seifert has been signed in place of Josh Bethell, who is from England, on a temporary replacement contract, which has now been altered for the rest of the IPL and made him available for their match on Monday against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). We do not know if he will be a part of the playing XI since Hazlewood will probably be one of the four overseas players chosen for LSG.

Hazlewood's availability is a positive for RCB, but the team management will have to manage the combined workload on Hazlewood. He is also named in Australia's squad for the World Test Championship 2025 Final, which is only a week after the IPL concludes against South Africa after they meet at Lord's in London. RCB will want to make the right decision ahead of this important match.

<![CDATA[Top 3 reasons why Punjab Kings Lost to Delhi Capitals in IPL 2025 Match 66]]> https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/top-3-reasons-why-punjab-kings-lost-to-delhi-capitals-in-ipl-2025-match-66/ https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/top-3-reasons-why-punjab-kings-lost-to-delhi-capitals-in-ipl-2025-match-66/ Sun, 25 May 2025 00:17:07 GMT

In Match 66 of IPL 2025, the Delhi Capitals emerged victorious over the Punjab Kings by 6 wickets in a hard-fought contest at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur. The Punjab Kings set an impressive 206/8, thanks to some classy batting by Shreyas Iyer, who scored 53 off 34 balls, and a late onslaught from Marcus Stoinis, who scored 44* off just 16 balls. The game changed dramatically in the last few overs, wherein almost 70 runs were scored, taking a competitive total and turning it into a mountain of runs on a good batting track.

Chasing 207, Delhi looked firmly in control of the required run rate with KL Rahul and Karun Nair doing the bulk of the run scoring, with Nair contributing 44 runs off 27 deliveries. The match changed decisively once Sameer Rizvi took control of the match, scoring an explosive 58* off just 25 balls, and completed the chase with 3 balls to spare. Rizvi showed maturity beyond his years, increasing the run rate expertly in the last few overs.

Punjab Kings had some victories, bringing down the wickets by Harpreet Brar and Praveen Dubey; however, the death bowling proved difficult under pressure. Delhi managed to cash in on a few bad deliveries, closing out the game. Delhi moved to now still be in contention for the playoffs and leave Punjab with an uphill battle to stay in the tournament!. Here are the Key reasons why PBKS lost to DC.

1. Poor Execution in Bowling Plans

Punjab Kings put a large bowl on the scoreboard at 206, but their execution failed while defending the target. Captain Shreyas Iyer said they needed to bowl to the plan and bowl hard lengths; instead, they bowled short, and that was on the wrong surface of the pitch, causing Delhi batters to settle and score effortlessly.

2. Lack of Discipline Under Pressure

When Punjab reached the pressure stages of defense, the bowler's composure disappeared, and too many balls went to the boundary. One would think the pressure of defending a large target affected their decision-making and control on their accuracy. Punjab really never maintained pressure during the middle and death overs; at times the pressure of the occasion got to them, and this wasn't a good thing.

3. Inability to Contain Sameer Rizvi

Sameer Rizvi's 58* off just 25 balls was the match-winning innings, which was performed by Delhi. Punjab's bowlers have no plan to slow him down, nor did they manage to build him up and actually mount pressure on him. Really, Rizvi's aggressive stroke play highlighted how flimsy Punjab's death bowling options were, and ultimately this was sloppy cleansing hitting under pressure with no answers from Punjab.

Punjab Kings Innings

PBKS batted first and scored a strong 206/8 in their 20 overs. Shreyas Iyer scored an impressive 53 off 34 balls, while Marcus Stoinis struck fear into the Capitals with 44* off 16 balls at the end of the innings. Josh Inglis hit a quick 12-ball 32 as well. Mustafizur Rahman was the bowling star for the Capitals, taking 3 wickets for 33 runs, with help from Vipraj Nigam (2/38) and Kuldeep Yadav (2/39).

Delhi Capitals Innings

Delhi began solidly and always seemed to be maintaining a rate in advance of PBKS's innings. Sameer Rizvi was the hero of the innings, smashing a remarkable 58* off just 25 balls to finish off the game in style! Karun Nair (44 off 27) and KL Rahul (35 off 21) set the capital pace. Harpreet Brar (2/41), Praveen Dubey (1/20), and Marco Jansen (1/41) all produced breakthroughs, but DC was able to hold on.

PBKS vs DC: Post Match Reactions

Karun Nair (Delhi Capitals): "It felt really good. We deserved that win after a couple of poor performances. I've been hitting the ball well, and I came into this tournament with a lot of confidence. My coaches asked me to try to pace my innings a bit better, and that worked for me tonight. I'm thankful for the Test call-up—it's something to be proud of for sure. I just want to stick to what works for me; it's all about consistency. Thank you, Sunil Gavaskar sir, for your best wishes."

Shreyas Iyer (Punjab Kings Captain): "I thought we put up a good score on a tricky wicket with a bit of variable bounce. I thought our total was over par. In the second innings, we did not execute properly. We were thinking of hitting hard lengths, and we went for pointless bouncers. It's a big lesson. We will sit again and come back with better plans. It's not an injury to be worried about. It is just my finger, and I should be fine."

Sameer Rizvi (Player of the Match): "It feels really good. I put in a lot of work in the last few months. I didn't expect I would be able to win games in the IPL before today; I believe I can now. I took a few balls to read the pitch and then just backed my shots. The wicket was good and I am glad I could contribute to my team."

Faf du Plessis (Delhi Capitals Captain): "Ending on a win is key. We think fifth is a fair conclusion and a reflection of our performance. Our consistency was lacking, not taking advantage of key moments in games. Vipraj Nigam was a great find who contributed the ball and bat. If our upcoming players learn, we have the foundations of excellent future players."

In Match 65 of IPL 2025, the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) put up an impressive display as they defeated the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) by 42 runs. After winning the toss and batting first, the Sunrisers made a deafening total of 231/6 in 20 overs with the help of an explosive 94 not out off just 48 balls by Ishan Kishan. While the Royal Challengers made a solid start, finishing on 189 all out in 19.5 overs,.

Sunrisers Hyderabad Innings

Ishan Kishan was the star of the batting with an outstanding 94 not out from just 48 deliveries, along with Abhishek Sharma, who scored an aggressive 34 from only 17 balls, and Aniket Verma, who thumped 26 from just 9 balls. The Royal Challengers bowlers had no way to halt the run rate with only Romario Shepherd (2/14 in 2 overs) offering a consistently economical and effective option. The Sunrisers bowled out the remaining Royal Challengers batsmen with Romario Shepherd (2/14 in 2 overs), Krunal Pandya (1/38), and Bhuvneshwar Kumar (1/43) contributing with the ball, with consecutive deliveries going well, nevertheless going for plenty.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru Innings

Chasing a significant total, the Royal Chargers made a very good start with good scores across the bat with Phil Salt (62 off 32) and Virat Kohli (43 off 25), directionally, but there were too many wickets that fell to put pressure on it. Jitesh Sharma tried to keep the chase alive with a score of 24 from 15, but unfortunately the rest of their batting lineup didn't offer them much alarm. Pat Cummins for the Sunrisers was again a star performer with the ball, taking (3/28) from his full quota. He was ably supported by Eshan Malinga (2/37) and Nitish Kumar Reddy (1/13 in 2 overs), who ensured the Challengers fell short of the target.

RCB vs SRH: Post Match Reactions

Ishan Kishan (Player of the Match): Ishan Kishan praised the good opening partnership as the basis for the result. He understood that the wicket was good for hitting and wanted to set a score over 200. He concentrated on hitting through the gaps and in his hitting area because RCB has a strong batting core and would require a big score to defend. Even with the match-winning innings, he is disappointed in himself and the team for the overall season, stressing it is important to keep learning and moving forward.

Pat Cummins (SRH Captain): Cummins was happy with the complete team performance, but a bit too late in the season. He liked the return of Nitish Kumar Reddy as a sixth bowling option and praised Kishan for his strong innings. At first, they miscalculated the pitch, thinking it was a 170 wicket, but adjusted quickly. He also mentioned Malinga's consistent and varied bowling.

Jaydev Unadkat (SRH): Unadkat called it one of the best batting wickets of the tournament. "At the end of the day, it is crucial to break their rhythm through pace variation." He credited the bowlers for their tight execution, especially in the middle overs, with Malinga's work being decisive.

Jitesh Sharma (RCB Captain): Jitesh admitted Sunrisers scored 20-30 runs more than ideal, especially due to their aggressive powerplay. He acknowledged his bowlers’ effort but felt the intensity was lacking early on. While disappointed, he viewed the loss as a learning opportunity. He also mentioned Tim David’s injury was yet to be assessed and stressed the importance of self-analysis after defeat.

GT vs LSG: Post Match Reactions

Rishabh Pant (Lucknow Super Giants Captain): Rishabh Pant evaluated the Lucknow Super Giants' season, and while failing to make the playoffs is disappointing, the team showed promise. Pant lauded Shahrukh Khan for his effort for the Gujarat Titans but stated that it is hard work chasing a total of 235 runs. He noted weaknesses in fielding and bowling and was adamant about learning from instances and practices that were not successful.

William O'Rourke (Lucknow Super Giants Bowler): William O'Rourke was happy to be able to contribute to a strong team performance. His bowling strategy focused on hard lengths and followed LSG's batting template. Adapting to circumstances and mixing pace made all the difference. O'Rourke appreciated the welcoming nature of the club, and the camaraderie made the experience enjoyable.

Shubman Gill (Gujarat Titans Captain): Shubman Gill pointed to 15–20 extra runs conceded as a turning point in the match. He defended bowling first but recognized that they did not take any wickets in the powerplay and bowled too expensively in the middle. Gill praised the batting of Rutherford and Shahrukh Khan. He was clear about regaining momentum against CSK ahead of the playoffs.

Mitchell Marsh (Player of the Match): Mitchell Marsh enjoyed opening and noted the importance of his partnership with Aiden Markram. He reflected on his IPL experience since 2010 and overall was happy with how he contributed. Though LSG missed the playoffs, Marsh saw the remaining games as chances to play with pride.
