There was expectation heading into the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 auction that the left-arm spinner from Uttar Pradesh, Prashant Veer, might end up getting a franchise in the IPL 2026 auction. But no one was certain about what was to unfold in the bidding war. By the time the auction was happening, the Uttar Pradesh side was practicing.

Prashant Veer was in the team bus as his state team-mate, Rinku Singh, opened his phone to check the bidding of the left-arm spinner, who was finally signed for a massive INR 14.2 crore to the Chennai Super Kings, who perhaps had an eye on him to be the shadow of their long-time servant, Ravindra Jadeja.

As the price got up and the hammer finally came down, there was a priceless reaction from Prashant as the video went viral. The teammates congratulated him with the spinner looking so happy and excited to get a new chance. That has been the story of the league over the years, where talent meets opportunity.

Veer has been identified from the UP T20 league, where he featured for the Noida Super Kings. The 20-year-old was decent with the bat and ball during the recent Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT) 2025/26, where he got 112 runs at a strike rate of over 170 and picked up nine wickets at an economy rate of 6.76.

“Prashant Veer, given that we needed that kind of skillset with trading Jadeja for Sanju and we identified him as a good talent going forward and filling that spot for us, doing that skillset. As the game has evolved, we might have been a little bit slow to evolve with it. Only halfway through the tournament (IPL 2025), we had a big shift.CSK’s head coach, Stephen Flemming, expressed.

Along with CSK, the Lucknow Super Giants, Rajasthan Royals, and others also had interest in the bidding. Even the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) stretched themselves to INR 14 crore before finally losing to the Super Kings.

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) made some big and bold moves at the IPL 2026 mini-auction. The franchise spent heavily on uncapped Indian all-rounder Prashant Veer, buying him for a massive ₹14.20 crore. CSK also paid the same amount for uncapped wicketkeeper-batter Kartik Sharma. Both players had a base price of just ₹30 lakh and became the joint highest-paid uncapped players in IPL auction history.

Prashant Veer, an all-rounder from Uttar Pradesh, impressed everyone with his performances in domestic cricket. In the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, he scored 112 runs in six innings at an average of over 37 and a strike rate above 170. He also took nine wickets in seven matches, showing his value as a complete all-rounder. Kartik Sharma, a wicketkeeper-batter from Rajasthan, has also shown strong form. He has scored 334 runs in 12 T20 matches at a strike rate of over 162, including two half-centuries.

CSK also added overseas experience by signing West Indies spinner Akeal Hosein for ₹2 crore at his base price, with no bidding war. Ahead of the auction, CSK made a major trade by sending Ravindra Jadeja and Sam Curran to Rajasthan Royals in exchange for Sanju Samson. Samson is expected to open the batting for CSK next season along with either Ruturaj Gaikwad or Ayush Mhatre.

<![CDATA[Who is Prashant Veer, who was sold for Chennai Super Kings at Rs 14.20 Cr in IPL 2026 auction?]]> https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/who-is-prashant-veer-who-was-sold-for-chennai-super-kings-at-rs-14-20-cr-in-ipl-2026-auction/ https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/who-is-prashant-veer-who-was-sold-for-chennai-super-kings-at-rs-14-20-cr-in-ipl-2026-auction/ Tue, 16 Dec 2025 17:06:44 GMT

Prashant Veer became the biggest headline of the IPL 2026 auction on Tuesday after Chennai Super Kings splurged a massive Rs 14.20 crore to secure the young Uttar Pradesh all-rounder in Abu Dhabi. Entering the auction with a modest base price of Rs 30 lakh, Veer’s value skyrocketed an astonishing 47.3 times, underlining the growing premium franchises are willing to pay for high-potential uncapped Indian talent.

The bidding for Veer was intense from the outset. Lucknow Super Giants and Mumbai Indians sparked the early battle before Chennai Super Kings stepped in aggressively. Rajasthan Royals briefly threatened to outbid CSK, while Sunrisers Hyderabad made a late push, but the Super Kings held their nerve to land their man. At just 20 years old, Veer is now officially the most expensive uncapped player in IPL auction history.

Prashant Veer’s rise reflects the growing value of uncapped Indian players

A left-handed middle-order batter and left-arm orthodox spinner, Prashant Veer is regarded as a rare dual-skilled prospect. He made a strong impression in the UP T20 League while representing Noida Super Kings, where his composure under pressure and clean striking caught the attention of scouts. In his short T20 career so far, Veer has featured in 12 matches, scoring 112 runs at an impressive strike rate of 167.16. With the ball, he has claimed 12 wickets in nine innings while maintaining an excellent economy rate of 6.45.

CSK see Veer as a long-term investment rather than an instant superstar. Within the franchise, he is viewed as a potential successor to Ravindra Jadeja, a player who has been central to Chennai’s success for over a decade. Veer’s ability to contribute in both departments fits perfectly into CSK’s philosophy of building durable, multi-dimensional cricketers.

His auction price also reflects a wider trend in the IPL, where uncapped Indian players are increasingly valued on par with established internationals. Performers like Digvesh Rathi and Vipraj Nigam last season proved that domestic stars can thrive on the biggest stage. Prashant Veer now carries similar expectations, with the yellow jersey set to define the next chapter of his promising career.
