Team India is ready to begin their highly awaited five-Test series against England on June 20 at Headingley, Leeds. This is a new era for Indian Test cricket, as the team is now being led by Shubman Gill after stalwarts Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma retired. Rishabh Pant is back on the team as vice-captain and wicketkeeper, while Gautam Gambhir, who has just been made team mentor, is in charge of this new-look team as India starts its campaign in the 2025–27 ICC World Test Championship cycle.

The playing XI includes a few young guns like Karun Nair, Sai Sudharsan, and Harshit Rana. Arshdeep Singh's Test debut can be anticipated as well, bolstering India's pace attack along with Jasprit Bumrah and Shardul Thakur. England, with skipper Ben Stokes at the helm, will also hope to carry their home dominance forward, with veteran campaigners like Joe Root, Ben Duckett, and Harry Brook holding the keys for the middle order.

Historically, India has struggled in England, having won a mere 3 of the 19 Test series hosted on British soil. At Headingley, Leeds, India has hosted 7 Tests against England, winning 2, losing 4, and drawing 1. Their recent visit in 2021 was a comprehensive loss.
With a new skipper, vice-skipper, and a new youth-filled team dynamic, India hopes to turn the tables and kickstart well in this pivotal away series.

<![CDATA[India’s probable playing XI vs England after Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli’s retirement]]> https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/india-s-probable-playing-xi-vs-england-after-rohit-sharma-and-virat-kohli-s-retirement/ https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/india-s-probable-playing-xi-vs-england-after-rohit-sharma-and-virat-kohli-s-retirement/ Mon, 12 May 2025 23:36:36 GMT

With Test cricket legends Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma bidding adieu to the format, India's red-ball team is going to welcome a new era of talent. The first test against England will likely be the starting point for this change. A likely XI announced by Sportskeeda is a mix of young hopefuls and experienced warriors, reflecting a new but well-balanced setup.

At the top, Yashasvi Jaiswal, KL Rahul, and Sai Sudharsan should bear the brunt of making the foundation. Rahul provides stability and experience, while Jaiswal and Sudharsan are emerging young players famous for their aggressive and calm batting styles, respectively.
Shubman Gill, likely to be plugged in at No. 4, will take on the duty of stabilizing the innings—one that Kohli once ruled for so long.

Rishabh Pant's comeback provides a much-needed fillip to the middle order and wicketkeeping. Along with him, Rajat Patidar is likely to be handed an opportunity after his consistent domestic show and maturity at the crease. Ravindra Jadeja continues to be an integral part of the team, providing both left-arm spin and lower-order grit with the bat.

A Brand New Beginning for India's Test Team

Once again, India's pace attack depends on its tried-and-true pace trio of Mohammed Shami, Jasprit Bumrah, and Mohammed Siraj, who offer firepower and reliability in all conditions. The other new selection, Prasidh Krishna, a tall seamer who can extract bounce and movement from a responsive surface, will hopefully provide support to the aging trio and add another element of pace and spin that could prove vital against a confident England side.

In the absence of Kohli and Rohit, while it means two gigantic voids to fill, this XI demonstrates India's good depth in their bench and the willingness to think forward. This offers a balance of considerable experience with new faces and will make for an exciting Test series.
How this relatively inexperienced Indian team handles the corresponding pressure and expectations will be scrutinized by fans and critics alike.

As India embarks on another new chapter in the Test format, the team promises to continue the legacy created in the last decade with new leadership and a renewed hunger.

Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) finds itself in a challenging position, akin to a ship navigating through stormy seas. The team’s recent history is marred by instability, marked by frequent changes in leadership and coaching staff.

Constant Leadership and Coaching Changes

Analysis of Overseas Contingent
