Purani Dilli 6 locked horns with South Delhi Superstarz in Match 38 of the Delhi Premier League (DPL) 2025, played on August 27 in a reduced seven-over contest. Batting first, PD posted 133/3, thanks to a sensational 85 off 23 balls from Dev Lakra and 38 off 14 from Yug Gupta. Despite their explosive batting, their middle order couldn’t provide a late flourish. In reply, The target was achieved by SDS in 6.5 overs with 8 wickets remaining. Tejaswi Dahiya and Anmol Sharma put on a superb opening partnership, scoring almost all of the runs. Dahiya blasted 69 off 21 balls with brutal hitting and Sharma another 56 off 17 balls. Due to the seven-over format, the bowlers had to be flawless, but PD’s attack had a hard time. Rajneesh Dadar gave away 42 runs in his 2 overs, and the others also allowed runs under pressure. The CDK bowlers were very efficient in their execution of the plans; they were taking wickets early and were able to repeat the same performance frequently. While Rajneesh Dadar picked up 3 wickets, the other bowlers leaked runs heavily in the first 10 overs. Aryan Rana’s quickfire 42* and Dhull’s fifty ensured CDK crossed 190 with ease. Poor line and lack of execution meant PD6 were chasing far too many on a tough surface.

East Delhi Riders won by 21 runs against Purani Dilli-6 and stayed strong in the DPL 2025 play-offs race. Batting first, they made 172/6 in 20 overs. Opener Arpit Rana gave a good start with 64 from 47 balls, while captain Anuj Rawat played a match-winning knock of 59 not out from 36 balls, hitting 3 fours and 6 sixes. Mayank Rawat added a quick 12 from 6 balls. For Purani Dilli-6, Aayush Singh bowled well and took 2 wickets.

The team lost some early wickets but built steady partnerships. In the end, Anuj Rawat’s big shots lifted the score. Chasing the target, Purani Dilli-6 struggled to keep up. Samarth Seth scored 41 from 30 balls and captain Vansh Bedi hit 48 from 26 balls, but they could not finish the job. Navdeep Saini took 3/21 and Ashish Meena 2/33 to seal the win for East Delhi Riders.

The PD's batting was explosive; however, they could not create enough partnerships at important moments. PD6's bowling was also inconsistent at key periods and failed to stop the EDR momentum. Eventually, PD6 lost. Here are the main reasons why Purani Dilli 6 lost the match.

1. East Delhi Riders’ explosive top-order batting 

Arpit Rana smashed 64 runs off 47 balls and Anuj Rawat stayed undefeated with 59 runs off 36 balls which in turn set the stage for a big score by the Riders. Their attacking strategy effectively chewed up PD6’s tactics in the powerplay overs. The partnership was the platform for the EDR to reach 172/6 and by so doing, they took the game in their stride.

2. PD6’s inconsistent bowling and lack of breakthroughs

The bowlers were not successful in tightening their grip and as a result, Dev Lakra and Aayush Singh gave away runs, though they did pick up two wickets each. Udhav Mohan and Rajneesh Dadar were marginally better but nobody could come up with a game-changing spell. The lack of penetration meant the EDR was free to score at will in the innings.

3. PD6’s chase: strong hitters but poor partnerships and middle-order collapse 

Vansh Bedi (48 off 26) and Samarth Seth (41 off 30) powered PD6 to a good contribution, but the team went off track, getting out cheaply. Manjeet was run out, and Kush Nagpal and Dev Lakra were also dismissed, which stopped the flow of runs. The middle order and lack of partnerships led to the downfall of PD6 in the chase despite hitting hard in the end.

South Delhi Superstarz played a complete game to defeat Purani Dilli-6 by 46 runs at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. Batting first, they scored 184 runs in 20 overs. Anmol Sharma was the star with 58 runs from 37 balls, while Kunwar Bidhuri (22) and Vision Panchal (31) added quick runs in the middle and end overs. For Purani Dilli-6, Lalit Yadav (3/24) and Rajneesh Dadar (3/30) bowled well but couldn’t stop the scoring.

The team started strongly, reaching 70/1 in the powerplay. Anmol Sharma attacked from the front with five fours and three sixes. Even though a few wickets fell quickly, Vision Panchal’s late hitting lifted the total to a strong 184.

The chase went off track early as they slipped to 16/4 in just five overs. Sumit Kumar Beniwal (4/19) and Abhishek Khandelwal (4/31) did most of the damage with the ball. Samarth Seth fought hard with 56 runs, while Ekansh Dobal (36) and Lalit Yadav (22) tried to revive the innings, but it was too late. Purani Dilli-6 were bowled out for 138, giving South Delhi Superstarz a comfortable 46-run win.

1. Disastrous Powerplay for PD6

Purani Dilli 6 conceded heavily in the powerplay as Anmol Sharma and Vision Panchal attacked from the start. At the end of six overs, SDS had already put the seal on the game through their brisk runs, whereas PD6’s bowlers had not managed to strike. This allowed Superstarz to set off nicely.

2. Batting of the Highest Order from Superstarz

The top-order contributions, particularly Anmol Sharma's 58, and Vision Panchal's 31, helped SDS put up a big total. Little cameos like Kunwar Bidhuri's 22 (13) kept the scoreboard pressure high. A target of 184 was always a lot to chase for PD6.

Although Ekansh Dobal played a valiant knock of 63, with some support from Lalit Yadav (22 off 28) and Rajneesh Dadar (15 off 17), they couldn’t provide the acceleration required. East Delhi Riders (EDR) scored a 5-wicket win over Purani Dilli 6 (PD6) in Match 22 of the Delhi Premier League 2025. After choosing to bowl first, EDR’s bowlers did well to keep PD6 to 182/8. Navdeep Saini (2/22) and Akhil Chaudhary (2/35) were the top wicket-takers, with help from Mayank Rawat and Rohit Yadav.

PD6 started well with Samarth Seth making 35 from 23 balls and Pranav Pant hitting 64 from 41 balls, smashing 6 fours and 3 sixes. Lalit Yadav scored 56 off 42, but quick wickets in the last overs stopped their momentum.

Chasing 183, EDR got a good start from Arpit Rana (87 off 52) and Sujal Singh (59 off 46), adding 149 runs together. Rana hit 9 fours and 4 sixes, while Singh played steady. In DPL 2025 Match 21, Purani Dilli 6 fell short against East Delhi Riders by five wickets. Pranav Pant made 64 (48) and quick runs from Samarth Seth and Vansh Bedi helped them to 182/8. Arpit Rana made 87 and Sujal Singh made a single innings of 59 to take the Riders home. The bowlers from Purani Dilli 6 failed to make key breakthroughs at the most crucial times and East Delhi Riders took advantage. Here are the top 3 reasons why Purani Dilli 6 lost the match:

1. Bowling Under Pressure in the Death Overs

Purani Dilli 6 were good enough to set a target of 182–8; however, their bowlers could not stand the pressure in the last overs. Rajneesh Dadar bowled 4 overs for 40 runs at an economy of 10.00, and Lalit Yadav gave away 32 runs in 4 overs at an economy of 8.00, while Mayank Rawat and Akhil Chaudhary were the biggest losers due to their high rates of economy.

2. Dominant Batting Stand by East Delhi Riders

The partnership between Arpit Rana (87 off 52) and Sujal Singh (59 off 46) was the turning point of the game. Their powerful batting changed the tide of the game decisively to the Riders. The inability to restrict set batters late in the innings allowed East Delhi to chase the target with ease.

3. No Support for Top-order Batters in the Chase

Despite a solid total of 182, Purani Dilli’s batting lacked enough contribution beyond the top performances of Pranav Pant (64 off 41) and Samarth Seth (35 off 23). The wickets tumbled consistently—eight down by the 18.6-over mark—preventing a defendable stand and tally above 190.

North Delhi Strikers put on a solid show with both bat and ball to beat Purani Dilli 6 by 27 runs in the 16th match of the Delhi Premier League (DPL) Season 2 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Sunday.

NDS Batted first, NDS got a quick start thanks to an attacking opening stand between Sarthak Ranjan and Arnav Bugga. The pair scored 58 runs in the powerplay, with Ranjan making 38 off 21 balls early on and Bugga adding 18 off 15. Ranjan went on to score a fine 51 from 33 balls before falling to Lalit Yadav in the 10th over. Bugga followed soon after for 39 from 26 balls, dismissed by Udhav Mohan.

The PD6 bowlers fought back in the middle overs, taking regular wickets to slow down the scoring. Lalit Yadav took 3/26, Rajneesh Dadar claimed 3/39, and Udhav Mohan picked up 2/28 as NDS ended with 179/8 in 20 overs.

Chasing 180, PD6 had a terrible start, losing three wickets for just 13 runs in the first few overs. Captain Vansh Bedi hit a quick 33 from 17 balls with three sixes, and Pranav Pant made 40 from 31 balls to keep the chase alive. But once they were dismissed, the rest of the batting could not keep up. PD6 were bowled out for 152 in 20 overs. For NDS, Deepanshu Gulia starred with 3/17, while skipper Harshit Rana chipped in with 2/25 to seal a much-needed win.
