With the series already sealed at 3-0, the fourth T20I between India and New Zealand offered the hosts a chance to fine-tune combinations ahead of the T20 World Cup. Even in a “dead rubber”, moments of class still stood out - and Jasprit Bumrah provided one such moment with a trademark dismissal of Rachin Ravindra in Visakhapatnam.

New Zealand made a strong start after being put in to bat, with Tim Seifert and Devon Conway putting pressure on the Indian bowlers during the powerplay and middle overs. The pair brought up a fluent 100-run partnership, setting a solid platform for the visitors. India, however, stayed patient, knowing that breakthroughs would tilt the momentum back their way.

Bumrah’s instant impact ends Ravindra’s stay

Kuldeep Yadav delivered the first big blow by removing Conway soon after the century stand, but it was Bumrah’s return to the attack that truly halted New Zealand’s charge. Bowling his first delivery of the spell, Bumrah rolled his fingers over the ball and sent down a well-disguised slower delivery on a short-of-a-length. Rachin Ravindra, still settling in, looked to work it into the onside but was early into the shot.

The ball held up just enough to force a leading edge, looping straight back towards the bowler. Bumrah showed sharp awareness, completing a comfortable caught-and-bowled in his follow-through to dismiss Ravindra for 2. It was a simple catch on paper, but one that highlighted Bumrah’s control, variation, and game sense.

The wicket once again underlined Bumrah’s value in breaking partnerships and striking immediately upon return. Even with the series outcome decided, such moments remain vital for India as they sharpen their bowling blueprint ahead of the World Cup, where small moments often decide big games.

Adithya Ashok]]> https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-analysis/list-of-india-born-players-to-play-for-new-zealand-cricket-ft-adithya-ashok/ https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-analysis/list-of-india-born-players-to-play-for-new-zealand-cricket-ft-adithya-ashok/ Sun, 11 Jan 2026 15:50:04 GMT

Despite a plethora of talent, India continues to have a cutthroat competition because of the massive population. With limited opportunities on offer in the national side, not everyone can make their careers in the game, which has seen many of them migrate to a different country and play the game there. There is also a section of people who move to foreign countries for a different purpose but pick up cricket later as a profession.

Many cricket-playing nations in the world have players of Indian origin in their set-up. Not only are they part of the group, but many renowned Indian players have played at the highest level for countries such as New Zealand. With the ongoing ODI series between India and New Zealand, another such player has played the game.

A look at the India-born players to play for New Zealand cricket ft. Adithya Ashok

1. Dipak Patel

The Nairobi-born Dipak Patel began his cricketing career in England for Worcestershire. Despite his impressive all-around performance, the Indian Origin player did not get a chance for the three lines before being migrated to New Zealand, where he got to play for 10 years and scored 1823 runs in international cricket, besides picking up 120 wickets in 112 games of ODIs and Tests. An off-spinner, Dipak made his debut for New Zealand in 1987 and represented them in three World Cups till 1996.

2. Ish Sodhi

The veteran leg-spinner of the New Zealand side, who was born in Ludhiana, has remained a successful campaigner of the side across formats. The leg spinner, who represented the Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League, has been a part of the Kiwi side for 12 years. He has done an impressive performance in the shortest format of the game with 157 wickets in 132 matches at an economy rate of under eight and an average of 22.34, thanks to the four four-wicket hauls.

3. Jeetan Patel

The current England bowling coach and the former New Zealand off spinner, Jeetan Patel, was born and brought up in Wellington, but his parents are from India. He represented the Black Caps in all three formats and has 24 Tests, 44 ODIs, and 10 T20Is to his name before he decided to retire from the game nine years ago.

4. Rachin Ravindra

The Kiwi spin all-rounder Rachin Ravindra has a strong Indian connection. His father, Ravi Krishnamurthy, is a software system architect from Bengaluru who moved to New Zealand in the 90s. His first name, Rachin, is a combination of the two Indian batting greats Rahul Dravid and Sachin Tendulkar.

He made his international debut on September 2, against Bangladesh, and has gone on to play for the Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League. He was also part of the New Zealand squad that won the World Test Championship by defeating India in the final earlier in 2021.

5. Jeet Raval

Born in Gujarat, Raval is a left-hand opening batter and had attended the same school as the Indian wicket-keeper batsman Parthiv Patel before his family moved to New Zealand. The batsman had come through the Kiwi Under-19 team before moving to senior cricket. The South Pole has played 24 Test matches for the Black Caps, so far scoring 1143 runs in the format.

6. Ronnie Hira

Roni Hira is yet another Indian origin spinner who has represented the New Zealand cricket team. He was born in Auckland, as the cricketer played most of his cricket in the city, and his persistent performance in the shortest of the game in domestic cricket saw him earn a place in the national side.

Hera did not get a massive success at the international level but is known for his sharp fielding and the cameo down under as he was part of the 2006 Under-19 World Cup in Sri Lanka.

7. Tarun Nethula

Tarun Nethula is a leg spinner who was born in Andhra Pradesh but has played all his professional cricket in New Zealand, where his family moved when he was around 12 years old. In 2012, he was called up to a New Zealand squad for a limited-overs series against Zimbabwe and has played only five ODIs for the side.

8. Adithya Ashok

The 23-year-old leg spinner, Adithya Ashok, was born in Vellore in Tamil Nadu, and it has been a part of the ongoing Vadodara ODI against India for New Zealand. He was part of Chennai’s Spin Academy for two years, where he earned so many scales about the leg spin as he has part of just two ODIs and one T20I for the Blackcaps.

Here is a look at five possible targets for DC in the IPL 2026 auction.

1. Rachin Ravindra

Rachin Ravindra is a good long-term option for the Delhi Capitals. He can replace Faf du Plessis at the top of the order. He plays aggressive cricket and can also bowl when needed. The New Zealand batter has played 18 IPL matches for CSK and has scored 413 runs.

2. Jamie Smith

Jamie Smith is another player Delhi Capitals can target in the auction as a top-order batter. He opens the innings for England in ODIs and has already shown his talent in international cricket. Smith has not played in the IPL yet, but he has featured in 97 T20 matches and scored 1,687 runs so far.

<![CDATA[Tom Latham & Rachin Ravindra Hit Centuries as New Zealand Seize Full Control on Day 3 of 1st Test vs West Indies]]> https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/tom-latham-rachin-ravindra-hit-centuries-as-new-zealand-seize-full-control-on-day-3-of-1st-test-vs-west-indies/ https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/tom-latham-rachin-ravindra-hit-centuries-as-new-zealand-seize-full-control-on-day-3-of-1st-test-vs-west-indies/ Thu, 04 Dec 2025 16:33:25 GMT

New Zealand dominated the third day of the first Test against the West Indies, thanks to centuries from Tom Latham and Rachin Ravindra. They started Day 3 at 32/0, and the opening pair of Latham and Devon Conway continued to bat confidently. The duo took the score close to 100, but Conway was dismissed for 37, ending the opening stand of 84 runs.

Kane Williamson could not make an impact and was dismissed for just nine runs. But Latham and Rachin took full control after that. They built a huge partnership, attacking the bowlers all over the ground, with Rachin hitting several boundaries on his way to a brilliant hundred.

By stumps, New Zealand had reached 385/3, riding on a dominant 279-run partnership between Rachin (176) and Latham (145). They had started the day 96 runs ahead, and by the end, they were completely in command of the match.

Latham and Rachin’s Complete Dominance

Both Tom Latham and Rachin Ravindra reached their centuries and kept scoring freely even after crossing the milestone. It turned into a tough and tiring day for the West Indies bowlers, who were hit all around the ground and struggled to take wickets.

The long partnership finally ended when Kemar Roach dismissed Latham for a superb 145. Their 279-run stand is now the second-highest partnership by a New Zealand pair against the West Indies in Test cricket.

Soon after, Rachin also fell for a brilliant 176, losing his wicket to Ojay Shields, who picked up his first scalp of the day. His dismissal came just three overs before stumps. Despite the two late wickets, New Zealand were clearly dominant and ended the day on 417/4, with Will Young unbeaten on 21 and Michael Bracewell on 6.

New Zealand head into Day 4 with a massive lead of 481 runs. It remains to be seen how long they will continue batting and what target they will set for the West Indies. By the time the second new ball was taken, New Zealand were already more than 400 runs ahead, with Rachin moving past Latham’s score. Roach broke the huge stand with an inswinger that brushed Latham’s inside edge, while Rachin later fell to a surprise yorker from Shields.

Even with the late breakthroughs, New Zealand added 184 runs in the final session, leaving West Indies facing a huge challenge.

Brief scores:

New Zealand 231 & 417/4 (Rachin Ravindra 176, Tom Latham 145; Kemar Roach 2-61) lead West Indies 167 by 481 runs.

The 1st ODI game of the three-match series is scheduled to take place on Sunday, November 17th at Hagley Oval, Christchurch. New Zealand entered this series following a 3-0 victory over England in late October and early November. In all three games, chasing won the game, and both teams in this match will have to consider this at the toss since batting first in preferential conditions for bowlers seems to make a big difference in New Zealand during this time of year.

The West Indies will play their first game since losing a three-match away series against Bangladesh 2-1. The West Indies team's only victory in the series came via a Super Over, while their two defeats were both very heavy, losing the opener by 74 runs and the third ODI by 179 runs.

Devon Conway will not be part of the Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2026, ending his three-year journey with the team. The New Zealand opener joined CSK in 2022 and became a fan favourite because of his calm batting style and consistent performances. But after CSK’s poor season in 2025, the team is planning major changes. Reports say that Rachin Ravindra may also leave the franchise.

CSK bought Conway for ₹6.25 crore at last year’s auction, while the team kept Ravindra for ₹4.25 crore using the right-to-match card.

What Conway & Rachin Did for CSK

Conway’s form dropped sharply in 2025 after he missed the 2024 season. He was one of CSK’s best batters in 2023, scoring 672 runs in 15 innings at an average of 51.69. But after returning in 2025, he could not repeat that success. He scored only 156 runs in six innings, averaging 26 with a strike rate of 131.09. Since CSK spent ₹6.25 crore on him in the mega auction, the team expected more stability at the top. His poor form hurt CSK’s start and affected their season.

In 2022, Conway scored 252 runs in seven innings at an average of 42 and a strike rate of 145.66. His best season was 2023, when he became the league’s third-highest run-scorer and played a key role in the final against the Gujarat Titans, scoring 47 off 25 balls. Across three seasons, he made 1,080 runs in 29 matches, averaging 43.20 with a strike rate of 139.72.

Rachin Ravindra joined CSK in 2024 and scored 413 runs in 18 innings with a strike rate of 143.60. He hit two fifties but often failed to convert good starts into big scores.

CSK’s Auction Plan

Conway’s exit is part of a big rebuild planned by CSK for the 2026 season. Reports say several players — including Rahul Tripathi, Deepak Hooda, Vijay Shankar and Jamie Overton — may also be released.

The biggest move is the major trade: Ravindra Jadeja and Sam Curran have joined Rajasthan Royals, while India’s star wicketkeeper-batter Sanju Samson has moved to CSK.

The fifth and final game of the five-match series is scheduled to take place on Thursday, November 13th at the University Oval in Dunedin. New Zealand has been brilliant in this series. Despite the close defeat in the first game, they have performed well against the opposition.

The visiting team started out strong in the series opener, but the home team made a stunning comeback, winning back-to-back narrow victories. The West Indies had a chance to keep the series alive if they won the fourth T20I, but the rain gods' intervention led to the match ending without a result.
