In the current IPL 2025 season, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) brought two unexpected changes to their playing eleven for the game against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on April 25. Two established players, Rachin Ravindra and Vijay Shankar, were not part of today's team.Let's see why they are not playing and what it indicates for CSK.

CSK vs SRH Match Details

  • Date: April 25th, 2025
  • Time:  7:30 PM IST
  • Venue: Chennai

Why Rachin Ravindra Is Not Playing
Rachin Ravindra, who began the season as an opener for CSK, has not been able to make a big impact with the bat.
Though he is talented, his strike rate has been among the lowest of all openers this season. That implies that he was not scoring quickly enough, which is extremely crucial in T20 cricket.CSK management thought to do something new to inject some energy and aggression in the top order. So, Rachin was substituted with Dewald Brevis, who is a young aggressive player. The reason for the substitution was to provide the team with more opportunities to score quickly and apply pressure on the opposing team in the early stages of the game.

Why Vijay Shankar Is Not Playing
Vijay Shankar has also been excluded from the match today. In one of the earlier matches, he and MS Dhoni formed a long partnership but was too sluggish. Although they remained at the crease, they were not able to match the run rate that was necessary.
That effort left one wondering whether he could close out matches under pressure. CSK's coach, Stephen Fleming, acknowledged that the middle order was not contributing enough, and it was hard to witness that slow pursuit unfold. To accelerate the scoring rate in the middle overs, Deepak Hooda replaced Shankar.

Kane Williamson is not playing in the IPL this year, but the New Zealand veteran still has a sharp eye on the future of cricket. During a recent chat on the Bombay Sport Exchange show by the Times of India, he was asked a pretty simple question: who are the next big stars of world cricket?

And as always, Kane gave a calm, thoughtful answer. He named five young players who, in his opinion, could define the next era of international cricket once the likes of himself, Kohli, Smith, and Root move on.

Here’s the list he gave, and it’s a solid mix of flair, form, and future potential:

  • Yashasvi Jaiswal
  • Shubman Gill
  • Rachin Ravindra
  • Harry Brook
  • Cameron Green

Let’s take a look at why each name was cut.

Yashasvi Jaiswal – The Breakout Star from India

Yashasvi’s rise has been nothing short of spectacular. At just 22, he’s already racked up nearly 1,800 runs in Test cricket at an average above 50, and he’s done it with flair. His aggressive strokeplay and fearless attitude make him a perfect fit for modern-day cricket, but it’s his calm under pressure that truly sets him apart. He’s also part of India’s T20 World Cup-winning squad and looks like someone who’s just getting started. ODI debut? Still pending. But it’s only a matter of time.

Shubman Gill – The Future Captain in the Making

Shubman Gill carries the aura of a future Indian captain, mature, composed, and incredibly consistent. With a classical technique and an eye for big runs, he’s already proven himself across formats. Nearly 2,800 runs in ODIs at an average close to 60, five Test centuries, and a cool head in high-pressure situations make him one of the most complete young batters in the game today. Whether it’s the IPL or a tense Test match overseas, Gill rarely looks out of place.

Rachin Ravindra – New Zealand’s Next Big All-Rounder

A true all-format asset, Rachin Ravindra has quietly become a key figure in New Zealand’s plans. He’s already notched up over 1,000 Test runs, including a mammoth 240, and can bowl handy left-arm spin. What makes Rachin special is his adaptability. he can bat anywhere in the order, adjust to any format, and still find ways to make an impact. Kane Williamson sees in him a mirror of the dependable Kiwi spirit.

Harry Brook – England’s Bazball Poster Boy

Harry Brook is redefining what aggressive Test batting looks like. Just 24 Tests in and he’s already closing in on 2,300 runs at an outrageous average close to 60. Eight centuries. A top score of 317. And he’s just been handed England’s white-ball captaincy. Brook is bold, fearless, and thrives under pressure, a perfect match for England’s high-octane approach under the Bazball banner. If there’s one player who looks like he could rewrite Test cricket's norms, it’s Brook.

Cameron Green – Australia’s Powerhouse in Progress

Cameron Green’s numbers may not scream superstar just yet, but the potential is unmistakable. He’s an old-school Test all-rounder with modern-day power over 1,300 runs in Tests, a top score of 174 not out, and the ability to crank it up with the ball. Injuries have slowed him down a bit, but when fully fit, Green is one of the most impactful players Australia has. Think of him as the long-term engine room of Aussie cricket.

Still In the Game, Just Off the Field

Even though Kane went unsold in the last IPL auction, he’s stayed involved with the league through commentary and mentoring. He spent time at a local academy in Mumbai recently, sharing his experience with young players. When asked which shot he’d love to borrow from another batter, he smiled and picked Virat Kohli’s wristy leg-side flick. A classy choice, and a nice nod to a fellow great.

Williamson will be joining the Karachi Kings in the Pakistan Super League later this month. After that, he’s expected back in New Zealand colours for a T20I tri-series in July featuring Zimbabwe and South Africa. Kane’s picks for the next Fab Five show he’s been watching closely and thinking ahead. These five have already made their mark, but with someone like Williamson backing them, the spotlight is only going to get brighter.

Arshdeep Singh: The left-arm pacer Arshdeep Singh has started the IPL 2025 strongly by picking up six wickets in three matches. He enjoys bowling both in the powerplay and slog overs.

Top 3 Vice-captain choices

Ravindra Jadeja: Apart from picking up two wickets in four games, Ravindra Jadeja scored two important knocks of 25 and 32 not out. However, we are still missing the dangerous batter Jadeja, who was always threatening the opponents.

Archer’s Game-Changing Performance

Archer carved his name in the history of Indian Premier League (IPL) by becoming the first bowler ever to bowl a maiden over in IPL history. He made his IPL 2025 season debut with Rajasthan Royals, taking the crucial scalp of Rachin Ravindra and blanking him for runs. Ravindra, who was still reeling from his aggressive batting display, was gifted a superb yorker from Archers where he cleaned him up. This turned out to be the most important moment of the match. For Archer to be able to control his nerves at that point was a testimony to his reputation as one of the elite T20 bowlers. He is truly a champion who comes out clutch with the big guns blazing when the pressure is at its peak.

His IPL record speaks for itself and this is even more highlighted by the fact that he started with the Rajasthan Royals franchise by making his debut back in 2018. He took 15 wickets in just 10 matches which was astonishing. He then followed it up in the 2020 season with 14 matches where his performance was hugely impactful as he took 20 wickets while boasting an unbelievably high economy of just 6.3. Achilles injuries has sidelined Archer from playing matches but it has not dented his record as one of the most reliable fast bowlers in the world of T20 cricket.

1 Sanju Samson

Sanju Samson has a great record against Chennai Super Kings his accelerating batting gives smoothness to the score. Sanju has the highest score of 74 runs against the Super Kings, he can be more dangerous as he does not have that extra responsibility which he did earlier so he can go by free hand to launch the assault. Samson can be dangerous if he sticks in the crease for a long time as he has done many times. It's on Csk bowlers how quickly they give a send to this player.

2. Rachin Ravindra

Rachin Ravindra the New Zealand batter was an essential part of the team last year, he has scored an ample of runs which secured his retention this season for the men in yellow. He was the replacement of Devon Conway.  Last year Rachin scored 222 runs for Csk with one fifty including it. That confidence cracked CSK to buy him and they got him for the price of 1.8 crore.
Rachin had a super start in this year's IPL season too against Mumbai Indians where his 65 runs paved the way to victory where the other side's wickets were crumbling In the second match too he was effective but got in Yash Dayal's yorker.

3. Jofra Archer

Archer is a lethal bowler in T20 his records speak for him same as in IPL he has delivered his magic, Archer was bought by Rajasthan Royals in 2018 from there he has been go through bowler for them. Jofra has taken a total of 46 wickets for Rajasthan Royals but sometimes he could be the most expensive like the last match where he gave out 74 runs in his 4 overs which is the most expensive skill in the history of IPL. There has always been rooting for him and can be deadly in the upcoming match against CSK.

IPL 2025, Match 8: CSK vs RCB Dream11 Top Captains And Vice-captains

Top 3 Captain's choices

Rachin Ravindra: New Zealand cricketer Rachin Ravindra is in great form with the bat. While CSK had a tricky chase of 156 runs against Mumbai Indians in their IPL 2025 opener, Ravindra scored 65 not out off 45 balls with two fours and four sixes, as CSK managed to chase the target despite losing wickets at regular intervals. His spin bowling is also an asset for his team.

Krunal Pandya: While RCB managed a solid start in the IPL 2025 with a seven-wicket thrashing win against the hosts and defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), Krunal Pandya was the main character why RCB return to the game and never lost the plot since then. The left-arm spinner maintained tight lines in the IPL 2025 opener as he dismissed set captain Ajinkya Rahane (56), Venkatesh Iyer (6), and Rinku Singh (12). He had the bowling figures of 4-0-29-3 as he won the Player of the Match award. In Chennai, he can play another crucial role for his team with the ball.

Virat Kohli: Former RCB captain Virat Kohli is now in great form with the bat in white-ball cricket. The leading run-scorer in IPL history started the IPL 2025 in familiar style as his powerful 59 not out off 36 balls (four fours and three sixes) had an important role in the successful 175-run chase.

Top 3 Vice-captain's choices

Noor Ahmad: The Afghan spinner Noor Ahmad was the hero for CSK in their first game of the IPL 2025, where they beat Mumbai Indians by four wickets with five balls to spare. While they restricted MI to 155/9 in 20 overs, Noor had the bowling figures of 4-0-18-4, as he dismissed Suryakumar Yadav (29), Robin Minz (3), Tilak Varma (31), and Naman Dhit (17).

Khaleel Ahmed: While Noor Ahmed was the Player of the Match for CSK in their IPL 2025 opener, the left-arm pacer Khaleel Ahmed set the tone for that with his two wickets in the powerplay. In his first two overs, Khaleel dismissed Rohit Sharma (0) and Ryan Rickelton (0). Later, in the slog overs, he dismissed Trent Boult (1) and finished with the bowling figures of 4-0-29-3.

Ravindra Jadeja: Chennai Super Kings all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja is always a key name in any format of cricket as he is a rare asset for any team. In Chennai, his left-arm spin bowling is key, while the left-handed batter can also play crucial cameos. In their first IPL 2025 match against Mumbai Indians, while Jadeja controlled with the bowling figures of 3-0-21-0, he came at a crucial time in the batting and set up the match-saver 36-run partnership for the sixth wicket with Rachin Ravindra before the Indian cricketer was run out for 17 runs.

Both teams are very competitive, which is why the IPL Chennai Super Kings vs Royal Challengers Bengaluru match on March 28 in MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai, is set to be a blast of an encounter. Here are three key players to watch a preview of this exciting clash.

1. Virat Kohli (RCB)

Kohli’s batting brilliance remains a constant danger. he’s a batting threat spanning from middle to end overs. A showcased example of this masterclass was on the 22nd of March, against KKR, in which RCB opened IPL 2025 with him singlehandedly smashing 59 runs off 36 balls, with RCB beating KKR by 7 wickets, a harsh boasting blow to his pole strikers. His injury concerns him; he fried an easily inviting 174 runs, and attacking him is counterproductive.

2. Rachin Ravindra (CSK)

This dynamic all-rounder has emerged as a cornerstone for CSK with his aggressive batting and crafty spin. Ravindra has become a zippy performer for the CSK team. No big change from the last game after Ravindra had scored 65 runs off  45 balls and took 1/25, despite the 4-wicket win chasing MI’s 155/9 (CSK 158/6). His form is likely to give a tough time to RCB on a surface that suits spinners.

3. Ruturaj Gaikwad (CSK)

Gaikwad’s calm head as an elegant opener will be vital against RCB’s quick bowlers. In the match against MI, he scored 53 runs off 26 runs and had stabilized the innings but could not see them over the line. His clash with RCB bowlers such as Josh Hazlewood could determine how CSK fares.

Although RCB thugs lead the encounters 21-11 in 33 matches, his 27-run win in the last IPL 2024 meeting makes it interesting. With RCB thumping KKR and CSK nudging past MI, this match combines CSK’s Chepauk magic and RCB’s energy, which will be a thriller.
