After one week's pause, the resumption of the IPL 2025 was cold when 'Match Abandoned' displayed on the giant screen of M. Chinnaswamy Stadium due to the climate, which did not allow a single ball to be played on May 17.

Cricket fans were curious to witness the Royal Challengers Bengaluru vs. Kolkata Knight Riders (RCB vs. KKR) clash in a highly engaging manner. But the officials did not dare to start the match as Bengaluru witnessed heavy rain, and the match was cancelled in the end.

RCB, the host of the match, has announced the ticket refund process for those who bought tickets from online and offline mediums. Spectators who got complimentary tickets are not eligible to get any refund. RCB announced these decisions through a social media post on Sunday from their verified accounts.

The Bengaluru-based franchise stated in their post, "As the game between RCB and KKR on 17th May 2025 was abandoned due to inclement weather, all valid ticket holders are eligible for a full refund."

People who bought tickets from online places will get the full refund through a possible 10-working-day process. "Digital ticket holders will be issued a refund within 10 working days to their original account used to book the tickets. In case you do not receive a refund by 31st May, kindly send an email to refund@ticketgenie.in with booking details to escalate the matter," Royal Challengers Bengaluru said in their note.

The ticket refund process will be a little different for the offline applicants. They need to surrender their physical tickets at the official source to claim the prize. The notice followed, "Physical ticket holders are required to surrender their original ticket to the respective official source from where they purchased the tickets in order to claim a refund."

<![CDATA[Why did Virat Kohli stay silent as fans came in rain to celebrate his legacy?]]> https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/why-did-virat-kohli-stay-silent-as-fans-came-in-rain-to-celebrate-his-legacy/ https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/why-did-virat-kohli-stay-silent-as-fans-came-in-rain-to-celebrate-his-legacy/ Sun, 18 May 2025 12:30:32 GMT

On May 17, 2025, thousands of fans of Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru wearing white No. 18 Test jerseys were saluting Virat Kohli for his cricket legacy in Tests. A campaign on social media led the acknowledgment of his career of 14 years during which he scored 9,230 runs and won 40 Test matches as captain. The downpour that flooded the IPL 2025 match with Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) led to its cancellation; however, the fans remained on site, and they were chanting Kohli's name.

Wet jerseys and banners that were saying: "Thank you, Virat, for reviving Test cricket" had already occupied the seats. Defiant families came through the heavy rain, and they all expressed their devotion. The vendors reported that there was a significant increase in the sales of the replica jerseys of Kohli, one of them stating, "Fans hustling to buy No. 18 wasn't even postponed by the rain." The gesture pointed out the influence of Kohli in that match, even though the game was called off without the toss due to the invention of the rain starting at 6 PM.

It was from the dressing room where Kohli delivered his message or gesture—no response was forthcoming. The fans stayed, expecting to get some sort of notice while he was quiet and then finally walked out disappointed. The silence of the cricket star, who is recognized for his passion, was a disappointment to many of his fans since Kohli gave no indication why he did so. The game was awarded one point each for RCB (17 points, the top on the table) and KKR (12 points, eliminated) due to the washout which had a 71% rain chance at 7 PM and a 10:56 PM cutoff for a five-over game.

Reactions from Virat’s Fans

Some of Kohli's fans expressed their various feelings about his silence. According to a student, "We stood for hours in the rain and Virat did not even move his hand. It seemed like he did not even care." On the other hand, others stood with the cricketer, saying that the rain was disturbing, and a vendor also mentioned, "He is human, he might be looking at one thing only." There is no doubt that the fans' frustration was a manifestation of their unwavering emotional connection to the cricket star.

Kohli’s quiet personality when he’s not on the pitch, indicating a thumbs-up to a Mumbai supporter, might be a reason why he kept silent. The rain was a factor that prevented socialization, and RCB’s Mo Bobat talked highly about Kohli’s hard work. Incidentally, Tea-Test retirement and Vrindavan sojourn are indicators of thoughtful reflection. It is highly probable that Kohli will come closer to fans during the RCB game against Sunrisers Hyderabad next May 23, thus, displaying their devotion.

The IPL 2025 match between Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), scheduled for May 17 at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, was abandoned due to persistent rain, with no play possible. This no-result has significant implications for both teams: RCB moves to the top of the points table with 17 points, while KKR's playoff hopes are officially over, as they can now reach a maximum of only 14 points, insufficient for qualification.

As the IPL 2025 season approaches its business end, the playoff race is closer than ever — and weather might just have an enormous say in determining the final four. The humdinger of a contest between Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) is in the balance due to rain threats, and a washout might have seismic implications for both teams.

If the game is abandoned and points are shared, RCB will go to 17 points, remaining very much in the running for a top-four spot. But for KKR, a no-result would officially eliminate them from the playoff contention, as they'd miss the qualification point.
RCB, however, would lose out only in an extremely unique situation: when Gujarat Titans (GT) and Mumbai Indians (MI) both win all their pending matches and end up with 18 or above, and Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Delhi Capitals (DC) win their upcoming matches and both have 16 points. This would lead to a multi-team tie with Net Run Rate (NRR) as the differential.

What RCB Need To Qualify: A Watch on PBKS and DC

For RCB, the math gets much easier if either PBKS or DC loses tomorrow—a single loss for either of them would virtually assure RCB a spot in the playoffs, independent of today's result. Their NRR puts them currently with a slight margin, but that could get put under strain if PBKS and DC win convincingly in their last matches. RCB will thus be following those games with great interest since their ultimate position could hinge on them.

For KKR, it's much worse. A mutual point from a washout will leave them below the playoff line with no chance to recover, closing their season out. Having battled hard in a closely fought season, such an end would be unfortunate for the two-time champions. While RCB are still hovering on the edge of playoff certainty, KKR's destiny rests solely on obtaining a full game — and winning it.

<![CDATA[IPL 2025: What is cut off time for RCB vs KKR match number 58?]]> https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/ipl-2025-what-is-cut-off-time-for-rcb-vs-kkr-match-number-58/ https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/ipl-2025-what-is-cut-off-time-for-rcb-vs-kkr-match-number-58/ Sat, 17 May 2025 20:36:25 GMT

The Indian Premier League (IPL) will resume on May 17, 2025, following a week-long interruption in view of growing tensions between India and Pakistan, which forced the cancellation of a number of matches, including the much-awaited RCB vs LSG match previously planned for May 10. The tournament was interrupted with air raid alerts in the course of a Punjab Kings vs Delhi Capitals match on May 8, forcing the BCCI to suspend the tournament.

Both sides had already met each other in the tournament opener on 22 March at Eden Gardens, Kolkata, where RCB had defeated KKR by 3 runs in a tight game, with 77 of Virat Kohli from 49 deliveries proving to be the decisive factor. With the IPL back on schedule, Match 58 between Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at Bengaluru's M. Chinnaswamy Stadium is much-awaited, and competitive cricket returns there during heavy rain, though the stadium's good drainage system holds out promise of play.

The match at 7:30 PM IST is threatened by deluges of rain in Bengaluru. Nevertheless, M. Chinnaswamy Stadium's state-of-the-art drainage facilities will likely counter delays. For a 5-over match, the cut-off is 10:50 PM IST, with at least 5 overs per side making a match. Rain continuing, the cut-off for a 10-over match is 10:20 PM IST, and for a standard 20-over match, it's 9:50 PM IST. These are strategic timings since both teams compete for valuable points in the playoff table, with RCB placed 4th with 16 points from 11 games and KKR 6th with 11 points from 12 games, so this is a must-win for KKR if they want to sustain their hopes for a top-four finish.

Previous Encounter and Current Standings

In their March 22 opener, RCB posted 182/6, with Kohli’s knock steering them to a 3-run victory over KKR’s 179/8, despite Andre Russell’s late flurry. Now, RCB, with 16 points, are well-positioned for playoffs, while KKR, with 11 points, need a win to stay in contention. This resumption game, amidst rain and geopolitical backdrop, promises high stakes and intense competition, with M. Chinnaswamy’s drainage system and cut-off times playing pivotal roles in determining the outcome.

But with the new schedule arriving for the rest of the season, the venues for the final and playoffs are still to be finalized. The BCCI is said to be planning to shift the final away from Kolkata, which will now be held on June 3.

IPL 2025 to pick up where it left off with RCB vs KKR match

The season of IPL 2025 had been temporarily suspended and halted for a week. May 25 was the date that had been fixed for the final. But with the resumption, the event will now end on June 3. When the season resumes after the brief pause, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) will face each other in the first match on Saturday, May 17. The match will be held at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.

RCB have won eight of their 11 games and with 16 points, are second on the points table. A victory over Kolkata would guarantee them a place in the playoffs. For KKR, the champions from last season are in sixth position with five wins out of 12. Victories in both their remaining games would put KKR on 15 points, which is not a guarantee of a playoff spot; other results would have to be in their favor too.

In the 58th match of the IPL 2025, Royal Challengers Bengaluru vs Kolkata Knight Riders (RCB vs KKR) will be played at M Chinnaswamy Stadium (Bengaluru) on Saturday evening (May 17). It will be their second meeting in the IPL 2025.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru are in second place in the IPL 2025 points table with 16 points in 11 matches (eight wins and three losses). In the meantime, the defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders are battling in the sixth position with 11 points after 12 games (five wins, six losses, and one no result).

KKR can’t afford another defeat as they need to win both remaining matches to stay in the fight for the Playoffs, which is not a strong picture for them at this moment. Meanwhile, RCB will want to maintain their present winning streak to ensure no threat to secure the top two positions in the final points table.
