The RCB camp is full of joy and euphoria following their scintillating win last night, which brought LSG down on their knees at the EKNA stadium. Jitesh Sharma led from the front and played a heroic knock of 85* to see his side over the line in an intense, high-scoring run chase. Virat Kohli and Phil Salt were the other two architects of the win. The duo compiled a well-constructed opening stand of 61 runs, which really helped RCB set the wheels in motion early on. Although Salt departed early, Kohli pushed on and played a pivotal cameo of 54 (30) to give Jitest a launchpad to power RCB over the finishing line.

RCB's dominating six-wicket win has now placed them in the top two, meaning they will be locking horns with PBKS tomorrow in Qualifier 1. After the game, the RCB players were seen exchanging a light moment. Most notably, rookie RCB player Swastik Chikara was captured in a video alongside Virat Kohli, with the duo reportedly posing for a selfie. Both players smiled while clicking a selfie together. Chikara's happiness saw no bounds, and he expressed his delight almost instantly after clicking the picture.

The 20-year-old commented by saying Kohli was his "bade bhaiya" meaning elder brother, and that he can click pictures with him anytime of the day. Kohli's reaction was swift and he hilariously laughed back at him and said "dimag kahta rehta hai" meaning he keeps bugging him all the time.

This is not the first time Virat's jubilent expression has been observed from up close. In a few instances already this season, Virat was also spotted exchanging flying kisses with his better half, Anushka Sharma, which has mesmerized the fans and the cricketing pundits alike.

It was a night to remember for the RCB fans as RCB pulled off an unbelievable victory and chased down a record 228 at the EKNA Stadium, a feat that had never been achieved before at this venue in the history of IPL. After being corned for 70-3, Virat tried to push on but eventually succumbed against the run of play after getting to his fifty. Just when it appeared that RCB were drifting off course, the stand-in captain Jitesh Sharma led from the front and did what no one would have anticipated from him. He launched a scathing attack on the LSG bowlers and miraculously saved the day for RCB with an inspiring knock of 85* (33) to drag his side over the line in the high-octane run chase.

The entire RCB unit erupted in joy following their euphoric win. There were smiles all around, and everyone hugged and greeted each other. But one particular moment stood out the most. Virat Kohli and Anushka Sharma recently delighted the fans with a heartwarming display of affection. Following RCB's six-wicket triumph, Anushka, who was in the stands, sent a flying kiss to Virat, who in turn returned the gesture, resulting in a heartwarming moment that rapidly gained traction on social media.

This is not the first time the couple was spotted trading flying kisses in such a manner. Earlier in the season, during an ongoing game against RR, Virat completed a catch and immediately turned towards the stands to send a flying kiss to Anushka, who reacted with a smile and applause. Back in the ODI World Cup 2023 S/F clash between India and the Blackcaps, the pair engaged in sending off flying kisses from the stands, demonstrating their deep connection during a high-pressure match.

These moments highlight the couple's enduring affection and support for each other, resonating deeply with fans and adding a personal touch to the sporting events.

RCB did the unthinkable by delivering a killer knockout punch to LSG last night at the EKNA stadium. Just when it seemed like all was over, RCB's stand-in skipper Jitesh Sharma snatched victory from the jaws of defeat. His blazing cameo of 85* (33) overshadowed Pant's century as RCB chashed down a mammoth 228 inside the 19th over with six wickets to spare.

LSG had hoped to spoil RCB's party last night, but the plan never really came to the fore. Despite reducing RCB to 70-3 at one stage, the LSG bowlers lacked the impetus to make further inroads and allowed Jitesh & Co. to get off the hook. Yesterday's win has guaranteed RCB a top-two finish, meaning they will play their Qualifier 1 match against PBKS on May 29. This also gives the franchise two shots at making it to the final, a position they would have ideally hoped to find themselves in.

Interestingly, in the past, RCB have managed to make it to the final on three occasions in 2009, 2011, and 2016, and faced defeats in all three of them. In this article, we will attempt to revisit those moments when RCB managed to conquer all their opponents along the way before stumbling at the final hurdle.

RCB's road to the IPL Final across seasons

2009 – RCB lost to Deccan Chargers by 6 runs

RCB came might close to tasting their maiden title win during the league's early infancy days. It was the second edition of the IPL, which was played solely in South Africa due to elections that were taking place in India at that time. The stage was set at the New Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg and Kumble led from the front snapping ground-breaking figures of 4-16 to cripple the Deccan Chargers batting lineup and reduce them to 143-6. However, tragedy awaited them in the second half as RCB failed to get their act together with the bat. A combined bowling effort from the Deccan Chargers bowlers, coupled with a poor show from the middle order, turned out to be a recipe for disaster for the RCB as they fell short by a narrow margin of six runs.

2011 – RCB lost to Chennai Super Kings by 58 runs

After a disappointing 2009 final, RCB got another shot a couple of seasons later to create history. This time, they were up against the mighty CSK, and defeating them in their own fortress at Chepauk was going to be no ordinary feat. While batting first, CSK mounted a massive score of 205-5 on the back of Murali Vijay's electrifying knock of 95 (52). In response, RCB faltered in their run chase early doors, with Chris Gayle (0) and Mayank Agarwal (10) falling cheaply. Virat Kohli (35) and AB de Villiers (18) showed some resistance but were dismissed in quick succession. The RCB innings never got going from the onset, and Ashwin emerged as a standout bowler from CSK, taking 3-16, which resulted in a heartbreaking 58-run defeat for RCB in the grand finale.

2016 – RCB lost to Sunrisers Hyderabad by 8 runs

The 2016 IPL final was yet another source of heartbreak for the RCB fans. Despite flying high throughout the majority of the season, RCB flopped big time when it mattered the most and narrowly missed out again, giving SRH their maiden title win. It turned out to be a high-scoring thriller at RCB's M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, which also happens to be their home ground. SRH posted 208-7 while batting first. David Warner led the charge with a blistering 69 off 38 balls, including 8 fours and 3 sixes. Yuvraj Singh contributed a quickfire 38 from 23 balls, adding momentum to the innings. The late surge came from Ben Cutting, who smashed 39 off just 15 balls. RCB's chase began with a bang as Gayle and Kohli put on a 114-run opening stand in just 10.3 overs. Gayle's 76 (36), comprising 4 fours and 8 sixes, set the tone. Kohli continued the assault, reaching a half-century before being dismissed for 54 (35). However, the middle order faltered under pressure. Key wickets fell rapidly, including AB de Villiers, KL Rahul, and Shane Watson. Despite a valiant effort, RCB fell short by 8 runs, finishing at 200/7.

Nine years have gone by since RCB made their last appearance in the final. Despite their star-studded line-ups over the years, RCB has yet to clinch the IPL title. But with momentum on their side this year and plenty of talent on the bench, RCB have what it takes to conquer the final summit.

In IPL 2025 Match no 70, played between Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) . Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) finished their league stage of IPL 2025 on a strong note with a thrilling six-wicket win over Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in Match 70. With this win, RCB moved to second place on the points table and fixed a spot in the playoffs.

LSG were asked to bat first and lost Matthew Breetzke early for 14 runs. But Rishabh Pant came in and changed the tempo right away, smashing 18 runs in one over off Yash Dayal. Pant continued his attacking approach and brought up his second fifty of the season. At the halfway stage, LSG were cruising at 100 for 1.

Pant found great support from Mitchell Marsh, who scored a quick 67 off just 37 balls. The duo added 152 runs for the second wicket before Marsh got out in the 16th over. Pant, however, carried on and remained unbeaten on a brilliant 118 off 61 balls. It was one of the best knocks of the season. For RCB, Sri Lankan pacer Nuwan Thushara, playing his first game of the season, bowled well and picked up 1 for 26 in his four overs.

Chasing a big target, RCB got off to a fast start but lost Phil Salt for 30 in the first over of the powerplay. Then, Will O’Rourke struck twice in the same over to dismiss Rajat Patidar and Liam Livingstone, putting RCB under pressure.

Virat Kohli steadied the innings with a well-made 54 off 30 balls, but once he got out, RCB still needed a strong finish. That’s when Jitesh Sharma rose to the occasion. He smashed an unbeaten 85 off just 33 balls his highest IPL score and got great support from Mayank Agarwal, who stayed not out on 41 from 23 balls. The pair guided RCB home with a few balls to spare in what became the third-highest run chase in IPL history. With this win, RCB head into the playoffs with momentum and high confidence.

Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) will play against Royal Challengers Bengaluru(RCB) in the fifty-ninth match of IPL 2025 at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow. Both failed to qualify for playoffs in the IPL 2024.

When they last played these two teams, Lucknow Super Giants won against Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the 15th match of IPL 2024. Quinton de Kock played a good number of innings, scored 81 runs, and helped LSG reach 181 runs in the first innings. RCB tried to chase the target but didn't chase, and they all got out for 153, even though Mahipal Lomror hit some quick runs in that match, but it didn't help for victory. Young fast bowler Mayank Yadav bowled well and took 3 important wickets. It was a strong team performance by LSG, and they outplayed RCB on their home ground.

LSG: Impact Players

Himmat Singh: A right-handed batter who plays domestic cricket. He can be a good option if LSG lose early wickets and need someone solid in the first innings.

Manimaran Siddharth: A left-arm spinner who can be useful when the pitch helps spin bowlers.
He was used as an Impact Player in LSG’s first match against Delhi and took two wickets.

Abdul Samad: A powerful hitter who did well for SRH last season. He can be a good choice to bring in during the second innings if batting becomes easier. Last match he played against PBKS, he scored 45 runs in 24 balls in a crucial time.

Rajvardhan Hangargekar: A bowling all-rounder with 14 wickets in 16 T20 matches. He can also hit some big shots and might be useful for a strong finish while batting first, as well as offering a bowling option later.

Suyash Sharma: A smart leg-spinner who can be useful if the pitch helps spinners. He has bowled well at Eden Gardens before when he played for KKR. After that, RCB bought him in the IPL Mega Auction. In the last match he played against CSK, he bowled 4 overs and conceded 43 runs.

Mohit Rathee: A young all-rounder who bats in the middle and bowls leg-spin. He’s been in decent form, scoring 54 runs and taking 1 wicket in his last two T20 games.

Swastik Chikara: A domestic batter who’s been playing well recently. He can come in if RCB lose early wickets or if a top-order batter needs to be replaced.

<![CDATA[Did You Know? RCB have never won an IPL Trophy or a Fair Play award!]]> https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/did-you-know-rcb-have-never-won-an-ipl-trophy-or-a-fair-play-award/ https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/did-you-know-rcb-have-never-won-an-ipl-trophy-or-a-fair-play-award/ Tue, 06 May 2025 17:47:10 GMT

Currently, the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) are experiencing their best start in IPL 2025, sitting at the top of the points table with 16 points. The three-time finalists have been in good form this season and have demonstrated they will be contenders for the title. Their campaign started with a definitive victory over Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), and they have built upon this win to now be the early leaders as we enter May.

RCB have been especially strong on the road with five straight away victories. They have also had two crucial wins as the host team back at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium. The strong overall performances throughout their championship have been inspired and led by Rajat Patidar, and it has given fans hope that this team can finally win their first IPL title.

One of the high points of their season came in their match against Chennai Super Kings (CSK). In this game, RCB was defending a large target of 214 runs, and the last over was particularly exciting, especially for the fans. RCB were defending 15 runs; Yash Dayal bowled an excellent over even with a well-set Ravindra Jadeja batting. Even though Shivam Dube hit a six from a no-ball, Dayal managed to get through and finish the game to get RCB the win that they so desperately needed.

The Fair Play Award: Still Out of RCB’s Reach

Despite their stellar performance, one achievement still eludes RCB - the Fair Play Award. The Fair Play Award was first introduced in 2008. The Fair Play Award winner is the team that best maintains the spirit of the game, as judged by the relevant umpires and match referees. Although RCB has been a good team on the field, they have never won this coveted award, despite competing for 18 seasons.

Less interestingly, RCB is one of just 3 teams—alongside the Lucknow Super Giants and Kolkata Knight Riders - that have never won this award. The current leader in the Fair Play standings is Punjab Kings, with just a solitary point on Chennai Super Kings. RCB is just 3 points behind CSK, which means there is still every chance they can climb the Fair Play ladder as the season progresses.

At the M Chinnaswamy stadium in Bengaluru on Tuesday, April 2, 2024, the match unfolded as a test of endurance for the batsmen due to the challenging pitch conditions. Quinton de Kock emerged as the standout performer, notching up the sole half-century of the game with a blistering 81 runs off 56 deliveries. Nicholas Pooran’s explosive innings of 40 runs from just 21 balls, including five crucial sixes in the final two overs, propelled LSG to a competitive total of 181/5.

In response, the RCB batters struggled to find their footing on the unpredictable pitch, eventually succumbing to the opposition’s bowling attack and getting bundled out for 153 runs. Consequently, they suffered a defeat by a margin of 28 runs.

De Kock’s impressive fifty provides the backbone for LSG

Partnering with K L Rahul at the top, de Kock wasted no time in launching an assault, particularly targeting Reece Topley in the opening over. While Rahul watched from the non-striker’s end, de Kock unleashed an array of boundaries. His first six came off Mohammed Siraj’s delivery, effortlessly lofting a length ball over fine leg and into the stands at M Chinnaswamy stadium.

Maintaining his aggression, de Kock struck another maximum off Siraj, this time dispatching a length delivery over deep backward square leg. The opening pair of de Kock and Rahul put together 53 runs in just 33 balls, with de Kock being the more aggressive of the two, contributing 32 runs off 19 deliveries. With a strike rate of 114.64, de Kock’s innings of 81 off 56 balls featured eight boundaries and five sixes.

Mayank brings storm in match with his exceptional performances

Following his stellar debut against the Punjab Kings, the pacer continued his impressive form by wreaking havoc on the RCB batting lineup with his fiery pace.

Entering the attack in the sixth over, Mayank immediately made an impact by dismissing the dangerous Glenn Maxwell. Employing his signature weapon—a blistering bouncer clocked at 151 kph—Maxwell attempted a pull shot but was late, resulting in a simple catch for Nicholas Pooran at mid-on.

In his next over, Mayank produced another sensational delivery to dismiss the highly regarded Australian, Cameron Green. The ball beat Green’s outside edge and crashed into the top of off-stump as he played inside the line.

Consistently clocking speeds of 150-plus, Mayank unsettled the RCB batsmen with his express pace. His third victim, Rajat Patidar, fell to a top-edged pull shot caught at fine leg for 29, highlighting the batsman’s struggle to cope with Mayank’s pace.

Finishing with remarkable figures of 3/14 in four overs, Mayank achieved his second consecutive three-wicket haul in the tournament. Additionally, he set a new record for the fastest delivery in IPL 2024, clocking an astonishing 156.7 kph during the match.

Pooran survived an early scare when he was dropped on just 2 runs by Anuj Rawat, and from there on, he unleashed an onslaught that Bengaluru won’t soon forget. Following his impactful 42 off 21 balls in LSG’s previous match against the Punjab Kings, Pooran escalated his aggression by smashing a whirlwind 40 runs off just 21 deliveries in this encounter, including five towering sixes in the last two overs, completely altering the game’s momentum.

Taking a particular liking to left-arm seamer Topley, Pooran launched three consecutive sixes off his bowling in the 19th over. And to add insult to injury, he targeted Siraj in the final over, dispatching him for two massive shots to propel the visitors to a formidable total.

With a scorching strike rate of 190.47, Pooran stunned the Bengaluru crowd with one boundary and five maximums. LSG’s last five overs proved to be the turning point, as they accumulated 50 runs, with 33 of those coming in the final two overs, featuring Pooran’s destructive hitting.

Fans were left in awe witnessing the remarkable performance by LSG, particularly Pooran’s explosive batting display and Mayank’s performance. As the match concluded, the spectators eagerly anticipated more such electrifying performances from the team in the upcoming games, setting high expectations for the rest of the tournament.

LSG’s decision to bat first paid off handsomely as openers Quinton de Kock and
captain KL Rahul provided a blistering start, notching up a quickfire 53-run
partnership for the first wicket. Their aggressive approach set the tone for
LSG’s innings and put pressure on the RCB bowlers right from the outset.

The momentum was momentarily halted when LSG skipper KL Rahul fell prey to
Glenn Maxwell after a brisk 20-run cameo off just 14 deliveries. Rahul’s
dismissal brought Devdutt Padikkal to the crease, who struggled to get going
and managed only 6 runs from 11 balls before being dismissed by Mohammed Siraj.

De Kock Dominance and Pooran’s Explosive Finish

Meanwhile, Quinton de Kock continued his onslaught, anchoring the innings with
a splendid 81 off 52 balls. Marcus Stoinis played a valuable supporting role,
contributing 24 runs off 15 deliveries before falling victim to Maxwell’s
guile.

The highlight of LSG’s innings was Nicholas Pooran’s explosive batting display
in the latter stages. Pooran’s unbeaten 40 off just 21 balls provided the
finishing touches to the inning and propelled LSG to a formidable total of 181
runs.

RCB’s Chase and Collapse

In response, RCB’s chase got off to a promising start, with Virat Kohli and Faf
du Plessis stitching together a solid partnership. However, a flurry of
wickets, including Kohli’s dismissal for 22 runs, derailed RCB’s innings.
Mayank Yadav’s exceptional bowling performance, which included the key wickets
of Maxwell and Cameron Green, further compounded RCB’s woes.

Yadav’s Heroics and Pooran’s Brilliance

Mayank Yadav emerged as the star performer for LSG, claiming three crucial
wickets to dismantle RCB’s batting lineup. His exceptional bowling display
earned him plaudits and played a decisive role in securing victory for his
team. Nicholas Pooran’s stunning direct hit to dismiss Mayank Dagar exemplified
LSG’s fielding prowess and capped off a comprehensive win. Mahipal Lomror, who added 33 runs off 13 balls was scalped by Yash Thakur.
