The group stage of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup is concluding on Friday with the Australia vs Oman match. After this, the Super 8 round will begin on Saturday. On Sunday (22 February), India will also start its Super 8 campaign, and in their first match, it will face South Africa, the runner-up of the previous edition of the tournament, whom Team India defeated in the final. The upcoming match between these two teams will be played at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Now ICC reveals the match officials for this game.

On Friday, the ICC announced the match officials for the Super-8 round of the T20 World Cup 2026. A total of 16 umpires will feature in this round, selected from the Emirates ICC Elite Panel of Umpires and the ICC Emerging Umpires Group. Meanwhile, 4 officials have been chosen to serve as match referees. The second phase of the tournament will begin with the match between the Group Y teams, New Zealand and Pakistan, to be played in Colombo. Rodney Tucker and Paul Reiffel have been selected as on-field umpires for this match, while Allahudien Paleker has been appointed as the TV umpire, and Sam Nogajski will serve as the fourth umpire.

For the Super 8 match to be played between co-hosts India and South Africa, the ICC has selected the experienced duo of Chris Gaffaney and Richard Kettleborough as on-field umpires. Gaffaney had also umpired in the T20 World Cup final between India and South Africa two years ago. Apart from Gaffaney and Kettleborough, Alex Wharf has also been selected, who will serve as the third umpire. Meanwhile, the responsibility of the fourth umpire has been given to Chris Brown.

India's second match in Super-8 is against the West Indies, and once again Gaffney will be seen as the on-field umpire, with Wharf assisting him. This round will conclude with the match between India and Zimbabwe on March 1, in which Wharf and Kettleborough will serve as the on-field umpires.

<![CDATA[Richard Kettleborough takes dig at Pakistan after Operation Sindoor by Indian Army]]> https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/richard-kettleborough-takes-dig-at-pakistan-after-operation-sindoor-by-indian-army/ https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/richard-kettleborough-takes-dig-at-pakistan-after-operation-sindoor-by-indian-army/ Wed, 07 May 2025 15:45:14 GMT

In the wake of Operation Sindoor, India's military retaliation for the Pahalgam terror attack, a peculiar name suddenly started trending on social media: Richard Kettleborough, the normally stoic English cricket umpire.

There were whispers on social media speculating that Kettleborough had made a subtle "dig" against Pakistan after the Indian Army's cross-border actions. Amusing as it is to some, let's correct this - there is no authenticated statement, comment, or even a whisper from Kettleborough about the military action or Pakistan's political conditions.

Famous for his strict rulings on the field, Kettleborough has always been impartial in his professional approach, never venturing into political statements. The recent allegations appear to have originated from a meme or parody post that went viral, demonstrating how easily fiction can pass for fact in the current social media environment.

A cricket umpire’s name trends amid online chaos as fake videos and rumors swirl after Operation Sindoor

While this, the consequence of Operation Sindoor has prompted a spate of online responses. A number of Pakistani social media accounts shared video clips purportedly depicting retaliatory attacks only for eagle-eyed observers to recognize the footage as part of popular video games such as ARMA 3 or Call of Duty. The blunder prompted a spate of memes and derisive comments, with Indian netizens ridiculing the attempt to present gameplay as actual war.

Others, meanwhile, alerted on social media to the supposed festive fireworks across Balochistan though unverified reports. Some saw it as symbolic solidarity for India's attack against terror strongholds, while others said it was propaganda.

As tensions brew between the two nuclear neighbors, the war over words online persists to escalate many times crossing over into the boundaries of satire, disinformation, and legitimate reportage.

It is certain that Richard Kettleborough is not moonlighting as a military expert. His name trending after a cross-border raid testifies more about the culture of the internet than the nature of international strife.

In the era of voice-converted AI and headline-fueled memes, checking the source is more critical than ever particularly when the name at stake is more famous for "out" and "not out" than "attack" and "retaliation."
