The Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) captain, Rajat Patidar, was at the helm of the franchise in the 2025 season and broke the franchise's 18-year-old curse to lift its maiden title. Virat Kohli, the former captain, played a huge role in the success of making the Madhya Pradesh player their new leader of the side.

In a recent interview, Mo Bobat, the director of the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), shared the story that the former Indian captain, Virat Kohli, was a strong pillar behind the announcement of Patidar as the leader of the Bengaluru side. He shared the story of how they tracked Patidar as the captain of MP to follow his calmness and process of leadership in domestic cricket.

“We spoke with Virat Kohli that Patidar was going to be the new captain, and Virat said, '100% I'm there to help. It's in all of our interests if Rajat succeeds. Let's give this a go. It was brilliant to have Virat's blessing and his approval.Mo Bobat told during a recent interaction on Cricbuzz.

We look forward to being able to recognize those people and their families. Their stories have become a part of our history now. The fact is, RCB were going to win the IPL at some stage. That’s a fact. In another 100 years, they will win it one, right? Why not us?Bobat addressed.

AB de Villiers spoke about a big mistake made by the Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals) during the World Championship of Legends (WCL) 2025. In a recent podcast, the former batter was asked about some decisions taken by the Delhi team in the past.

"Both. Imagine both Virat and myself there. But I was very happy to move to RCB. What a great city, what great fans. I think I will be involved with them in the future, but I can’t say when. I would love to coach them one day, but I don’t know yet what role they would want me to take or if I’m ready for it. I just want to keep my relationship with them healthy for the rest of my life," he said.

The African legend played for RCB until the 2021 season. He featured in 157 matches for the team, scoring 4,522 runs at an average of 41.10 and a strike rate of 158.33, with two hundreds. Overall, he scored three IPL hundreds, with his first coming for the Delhi Daredevils in 2009.

AB de Villiers regrets not winning an IPL title with RCB

RCB reached the IPL final in 2016. They came close to winning but fell short. Despite playing many seasons for the team, AB de Villiers could not win an IPL trophy and regrets it.

"I will always regret that. The 2016 final still hurts because we were so close. I felt we were the better team and should have won. But that’s sport—full of ups and downs and surprises. That’s why fans love it so much," he said.

In the 2016 final, RCB faced SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) in Bengaluru. SRH batted first and scored 208/7. Virat Kohli (54) and Chris Gayle (76) gave RCB a flying start, adding 114 runs for the first wicket in just 10.3 overs. It looked like RCB would easily chase the target.

However, after Kohli and Gayle got out, the rest of the team collapsed. They ended on 200/7, falling nine runs short of the title. AB de Villiers was the third-highest run-scorer of that season, with 687 runs from 16 matches.

The dreams of Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) fans to witness AB de Villiers in RCB colors one last time have been dashed yet again, despite his brilliant performances in the World Championship of Legends 2025 (WCL). The South African icon looked as sharp and elegant as always and led the South Africa Champions to the title with his typical flair and calmness. His resurgence sparked excitement among fans, who hoped for a fairytale return to the IPL.

Following the WCL final, when Shubhankar Mishra asked AB whether he would consider coming out of retirement to play one last IPL season for RCB, the Proteas great ended all speculation. In his usual composed and humble manner, de Villiers explained that while he remains fit and active, the demands of the IPL are simply too intense. He pointed out the Indian Premier League's three-month duration, stressing that it's not just about being in shape—it's about being mentally and physically ready to handle the pressure day in and day out.

“I'll be too nervous, man. I think I'd rather just support; I'm a very good supporter. Yeah, the IPL is just a very long tournament. It's almost a three-month tournament. It is a really big commitment for someone at the age of 41. You can't compare me to Imran Tahir. I work a lot harder. I had a lot more hard work. I think throughout the years,” de Villiers said, making it clear that a comeback would require more than just desire—it would demand full-scale commitment and intense preparation.

“We’re all different”—AB reflects on comparisons, retirement, and moving on

Addressing comparisons with other veteran cricketers like Imran Tahir, who at 46 continues to play in T20 leagues worldwide, AB responded with respect and perspective. “I mean, that's crazy. I'll take my hat to them. That's absolutely amazing. And I mean, you've got to look up to that. But we're all different, and I think that is the beautiful part of the sport—some guys feel they've had enough after the age of 30. Some are only at 40. It depends,” he explained, emphasizing that every athlete’s journey is unique and personal.

As he signed off, de Villiers looked back at his career with pride and gratitude. “So, I'm just, first of all, thankful that I could actually have a very lengthy career from the age of 20 right through to whenever I retired. I don't even know how long it was. It felt quite long. But I gave it my best shot, and I'm happy.” His words echoed the sentiments of fans who watched him light up the IPL for over a decade, especially for RCB, where he scored 4178 of his 5162 IPL runs, including 3 centuries and 40 fifties. Although not making a return to the field, AB de Villiers will always be a firm icon in the RCB legacy.

South African legend AB de Villiers gave a humorous yet heartfelt response when asked about potentially reversing his retirement during the World Championship of Legends (WCL) 2025. Amid growing fan excitement, especially after his scintillating form in the tournament, De Villiers dismissed the idea of returning to professional cricket by cheekily avoiding comparisons with MS Dhoni, who is still playing IPL at 44.

De Villiers was a key figure in South Africa Champions’ WCL 2025 triumph. He made 429 runs in six matches, scoring three centuries, and made an unforgettable unbeaten 120 in the final to lead his team to the title. His explosive return to the field led to inevitable questions about a possible IPL comeback with Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), the franchise he starred for from 2011 to 2021.

Speaking on Shubhankar Mishra’s podcast, De Villiers said, "I'll be too nervous. I think I'll rather just support. I'm a very good supporter. The IPL is just very long, and it is a three-month tournament. It's a really big commitment for someone at the age of 41. You can't compare me to Dhoni. I work a lot harder. I had a lot more hard work through the years. I'm just kidding. I'll take my hat to them. But we're all different. It depends. I gave it my best shot, and I'm happy."

RCB fans show love during WCL as De Villiers recalls special moment

De Villiers, a fan favorite during his time at RCB, also reflected on the global support the franchise enjoys. He was pleasantly surprised to see RCB fans show up in the United Kingdom during the WCL, with familiar chants echoing across the Northampton venue.

"Everyone loves RCB. We had a ground called Northampton County Cricket Club, and as I arrived, there were a lot of RCB fans. I immediately picked up the chants. It was very cool to hear that again. Obviously, RCB are the current champions of the IPL, finally, for the first time, I am very happy to say that," he said. De Villiers was also present at the Narendra Modi Stadium for the IPL 2025 final, where RCB defeated Punjab Kings by six runs. In a heartwarming gesture, Virat Kohli invited both De Villiers and Chris Gayle to lift the trophy—making it a perfect end to RCB’s 18-year wait for their maiden IPL title.

The left-arm pacer of India and the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), Yash Dayal, has been booked under Section 69 of the Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) as a Ghaziabad woman made serious sexual harassment allegations and exploitation against him. The woman registered the FIR at the Indirapuram police station after a preliminary investigation into a complaint filed through the Chief Minister’s grievance portal.

Section 69 of the BNS deals with the sexual acts in India that are committed on different bases of faulty promises, like the flawed assurance of employment or marriage. It can be treated as fraud and exploitation, as the punishment could be up to ten years in prison.

The complaint addressed that the woman alleged her five-year relationship with Yash Dayal. During this time, the bowler mentally, financially, and physically tortured her under the false promise of marriage. She also revealed that the Uttar Pradesh-born falsely introduced her to his family as a married couple. Upon realizing the intentions, when he tried to confront Dayal, Dayal started to harass her.

FIR registered against Yash Dayal by a Ghaziabad woman

The complaint didn’t end here. It has also been stated that the 27-year-old charged money from the woman during their course of the relationship. She also stated that the pacer has behaved in the same way with the other women in the past. For the evidence supporting her claims, the woman also touched on carrying chat records, photographs, video recordings, and various screenshots.

On the other hand, the pacer is yet to make a comment on the entire incident. He was part of the RCB set-up in their maiden IPL-winning campaign. To help the ‘Play Bold’ franchise win the title, he contributed immensely. His death bowling was a vital part behind the Rajat Patidar-led side’s success. He picked up 13 wickets in RCB’s campaign in 15 innings at an economy rate of under 10 with the best figures of 2/18 in an inning.

Last year, he earned his maiden call-up to the national side for the home series against Bangladesh in the longest format, but has yet to make his debut for the country. Dayal also flew to Australia to bowl against the national batters in the training during the BGT 2024-25. He is expected to turn up for the Gorakhpur Lions squad in the upcoming UP T20 league 2025.

The Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) scripted history by securing their maiden IPL title win in the 2025 season. The Bengaluru-based outfit emerged triumphant in the summit clash against Punjab Kings (PBKS), beating them by a margin of six runs to lay their hands on the prestigious trophy.

Needless to say, the fans went over the one following RCB's maiden title win. The level of excitement was clearly evident on the faces of the RCB players as well, who had put everything on the line to produce such a spectacular end result. Meanwhile, RCB's well-wishers, primarily comprising South African great AB De Villiers and Chris Gayle, were in attendance at the Narendra Modi stadium to witness the high-voltage showdown.

Following the win, De Villiers shared a very interesting incident that occurred to him while he was celebrating along with the team.

De Villiers hesitant at first to lift the trophy

Being a former player of the RCB, it was a special moment for De Villiers to see his former franchise rise to the top. At the time of celebration, the South African legend found himself next to his former comrades. Following the end of the post-match presentation ceremony, it was time for the RCB team to lift the IPL trophy with their heads held high.

While everyone was busy posing with the trophy, De Villiers initially felt reluctant to lift the trophy or get anywhere close to it. His inner conscience made him think whether it would be appropriate for him to get his hands on the trophy since he had no role to play both on the field as well as off the field. But Virat's suggestion changed it all. He invited him to lift the trophy and asked him not to have any worries. And as fate would have it, both players got the opportunity to lift the trophy together.

At last, RCB's thirst for a maiden IPL title win was fulfilled. Virat played an instrumental role in taking his side to glory as he finished as the highest run scorer for the franchise with 657 runs, averaging 54.75. De Villiers was also a true servant for the RCB and did wonders for them across several seasons. Although he could not make them win a title, De Villiers would be mighty pleased to see that the dream has finally turned into a reality.

Royal Challengers Bangalore finally ended its wait for an IPL trophy after 18 years. The franchise has witnessed some of the best players in their dugout every season, but has failed to win the trophy. The 2025 season was a special one for RCB, and the team produced a collective effort. Every player stepped up during demanding situations, whether it was the experience of Virat Kohli and Josh Hazlewood or Jitesh Sharma's aggressive batting and Krunal Pandya's clever off-spin.

New skipper Jitesh Sharma showcased tremendous calmness under pressure and made clever bowling changes depending on the batting team's strengths. In this piece, we discuss five players who played a big role in helping the team win the IPL trophy for the first time. We discuss these five players in detail:

1. Virat Kohli

Virat Kohli

'King Kohli' was again the core of the RCB batting line-up, showcasing aggression in his batting. The 36-year-old scored 657 runs in 15 IPL games during the 2025 season, scoring 8 half-centuries with a strike rate of 144.71. The former India skipper played an influential role while chasing big totals. The right-hander used his experience of playing in different situations. Kohli built his innings cleverly and accelerated when needed.

2. Josh Hazlewood

Josh Hazlewood

The Australian pacer used his experience in judging the conditions and wickets to good effect. The 34-year-old didn't allow the opposition batters to score easily. Hazlewood managed to claim crucial wickets during the run of play with his clever swing and seam movements.

His leg cutters troubled the batters on slow wickets, and he used his slower ones smartly. He claimed 22 wickets in 12 IPL games during the entire season with best bowling figures of 4/33.

3. Phil Salt

Phil Salt

Phil Salt was crucial in providing acceleration as an opener. His destructive hitting destroyed the opposition's morale. The 28-year-old smashed the opposition bowlers out of the park.

The England opener read the wickets well and attacked the spinners at will. The right-hander was aggressive against pacers when they bowled short of length or when he was offered width. The England wicket-keeper batter scored 403 runs in 13 IPL games with a strike rate of 175.98 by registering 4 half-centuries.

4. Krunal Pandya

Krunal Pandya

Krunal Pandya was the core of the RCB bowling lineup in the entire season. The left-arm off-spinner mixed his deliveries cleverly. The 34-year-old caused problems for the batters with his length and bowled quicker through the air to surprise the batters. Pandya claimed 17 wickets in 15 IPL games with best bowling figures of 4/25. Krunal Pandya's inclusion added penetration in the RCB bowling lineup.

5. Jitesh Sharma

Jitesh Sharma

Jitesh Sharma's inclusion made the RCB batting lineup robust. The 32-year-old was bought for a sum of INR 11 crore by RCB, and the wicket-keeper batter turned out to be valuable with his powerful hitting abilities. The right-hander stepped up when needed, scoring 261 runs in 15 IPL games with a strike rate of 176.35. Jitesh Sharma can play match-winning innings, and that is exactly what he did this season.

Royal Challengers Bangalore has ended the drought of 18 years. RCB finally won the title of IPL 2025 in the 18th season. RCB defeated Punjab Kings by 6 runs in the final. With this victory, the dream of Virat Kohli and all those fans of RCB was fulfilled who were dreaming of winning the title since 2008. At the same time, Punjab Kings, who reached the final after 2014 under the captaincy of Shreyas Iyer, was heartbroken. Punjab team lost in the final.

Philp Salt could not give a great start to RCB, who came to bat first after losing the toss in Ahmedabad ground. Salt was trapped by Jamieson and he went out after scoring 16 runs in nine balls. While Virat Kohli remained firm at one end, on the other side Mayank Agarwal could only score 24 runs in 18 balls with two fours and a six and after him captain Rajat Patidar could only score 26 runs in 16 balls with one four and two sixes. Due to which RCB lost three wickets for 96 runs.

After three for 96, Kohli was trapped by Omarzai in the 15th over of the innings and he went after scoring 43 runs in 35 balls with three fours. Fans also trolled Kohli for his slow play. While in the end Jitesh Sharma scored 24 runs in 10 balls with two fours and two sixes for RCB, Arshdeep Singh kept RCB away from 200. In the last over, Arshdeep showed his flair and took three wickets. Due to which RCB's team could only reach 190 runs for nine wickets in 20 overs and remained away from 200. Arshdeep and Kyle Jamieson took the maximum three wickets for Punjab.

Punjab's middle order flopped

Punjab Kings got off to a good start. Priyansh Arya and Prabhsimran Singh started in the opening. Both of them together added 43 runs for the first wicket but then Priyansh Arya was out for 24 runs. Arya was caught by Phil Salt. Now Josh Inglis came to the crease and he fully supported Prabhsimran Singh. Both of them together took the score to 72 runs. Prabhsimran was playing big shots but then Krunal Pandya dismissed him and gave a big success to RCB.

Now Punjab Kings captain Shreyas Iyer is at the crease but Iyer flopped. Iyer was run out by Romario Shepherd for just one run. Iyer's wicket was the biggest success for RCB. Inglis was playing from the other end but he was out on a score of 98. Inglis' wicket was taken by Krunal Pandya. Inglis scored 39 runs in 23 balls. Nehal Vadhera was expected to perform brilliantly but he was out on 15 runs. Finally RCB won the finals after 17 years.

Punjab Kings captain Shreyas Iyer, who had been in good form throughout IPL 2025 with over 600 runs, had a rare failure in the crucial final. He was dismissed for just 1 run by Romario Shepherd. Iyer got an edge and went to keeper catch, and Jitesh Sharma took a clean catch in the crucial final.

It was a big moment in the match, especially because Shepherd had earlier dropped Prabhsimran Singh but made up for it with this vital wicket. Iyer had played a brilliant unbeaten knock of 87 runs in Qualifier 2, taking Punjab to the final by almost single-handedly defeating the Mumbai Indians. But in the final at the Narendra Modi Stadium, things didn’t go his way.

As he walked back to the dugout, RCB players celebrated loudly, knowing how important his wicket was. Punjab openers Priyansh Arya (24) and Prabhsimran Singh (26) got decent starts but couldn’t convert them into big scores. Earlier, RCB posted 190/9 in their 20 overs. Virat Kohli scored 43 runs but with a slow strike rate of 122. For Punjab, Arshdeep Singh and Kyle Jamieson bowled well and took three wickets each to keep RCB from running away with the game.
