Veteran's latest move sparks speculation]]> https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/virat-kohli-to-leave-rcb-ahead-of-ipl-2026-veteran-s-latest-move-sparks-speculation/ https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/virat-kohli-to-leave-rcb-ahead-of-ipl-2026-veteran-s-latest-move-sparks-speculation/ Sun, 12 Oct 2025 17:34:21 GMT

Virat Kohli’s last comparative game came during the final of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 against the Punjab Kings at the Narendra Modi Stadium. They went on to win the clash and lift their maiden title of the tournament. Since then, he has not featured in any game, having already taken retirements from the shortest and longest formats of the game.

For the ODI World Cup 2027 in South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia, the BCCI chief selector, Ajit Agarkar, kept Kohli in their plans. The Delhi batter has also been included in the ODI squad for their upcoming three-match series against Australia down under. There are, however, speculations of whether he would continue playing till that period.

But a shocking move has arrived for the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) fans. Kohli doesn’t only hold an exceptional place in the game but also in the commercial business. Having represented the franchise since the very first edition of the event, he has linked up with major endorsements. But his recent move hasn’t given a positive sign for the management and the fans.

Virat Kohli refuses to renew RCB brand to spark speculation

Kohli has allegedly made it clear that he won’t be renewing a brand partnership that is connected with the RCB, as Revsportz has reported. The veteran batter has encouraged the team to find another face for the business, as the decision could push them to potentially withdraw from the competition.

Kohli’s moves have pushed many to believe that he perhaps has played his last game in the IPL. In the past, the former Indian and RCB captain revealed that if he were to stay playing in the IPL, he would only be with the Bengaluru franchise. Last year, Rajat Patidar led the team after they left out Faf du Plessis.

Kohli, who has smashed a total of 8661 runs in 259 innings of the IPL at an average of under 40 and a strike rate of over 133 with the help of 63 half-centuries and eight centuries at the best score of unbeaten 113 runs, cracked 657 runs in the previous season in 15 innings at a strike rate of 145, with eight fifties.

The England wicket-keeper and opening batter, Phil Salt, went back home when the IPL 2025 was suspended for a week due to the Pahalgam terror attack. When the tournament restarted, he came back to India for the first qualifier game for the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) against the Punjab Kings (PBKS) and went back home to be with his wife.

Salt recalled the period of how his wife, Abi McLaven, made the decision and convinced the batter to be with the franchise in the final. The opener, who missed the IPL 2024 final for the Kolkata Knight Riders, however, wanted to be with his wife and newborn child.

“I missed an IPL final the year before, and that one really hurt because we [Kolkata Knight Riders] went on to win it. I was part of everything leading up to it, and then not be a part of it did sting a bit. The final was a little bit of a blur until the last over, which I remember second by second. It all happened very quick It was really, really special. The Lancashire batter explained.

Former India and Royal Challengers Bengaluru player Dinesh Karthik has been appointed as the captain of Team India for the upcoming Hong Kong Sixes tournament. The announcement was made official by Hong Kong Cricket on social media platform X (formerly Twitter). Known for his smart cricketing skills and 360-degree stroke play, Karthik brings a lot of experience in T20 cricket. Karthik has played in global T20 leagues since he retired from international cricket and the IPL. Most recently, he made his overseas debut with the Paarl Royals in the recent SA20 season. His previous leadership, batting experience, and ability to perform under pressure make him an ideal candidate for the captaincy of India in the fast-paced six-a-side format.

His appointment reflects the spirit of the Sixes fearless, entertaining, and world-class.”

How long can a fan go to pay tribute to the favorite team? There is no such parameter to measure the love of a fan for his beloved team. But what Manoj Nayak has done is truly beyond imagination. To mark the historic final of IPL 2025, when Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) ended their years-long trophy drought, Nayak tattoos all of the trophy-winning players' names on his body—fandom to the next level.

The die-hard RCB fan shared some of his posts with his new iconic tattoo to show his love for the franchise. In one of his social media posts, Nayak mentioned that Royal Challengers Bengaluru is not only a team, it is an emotion. He mentioned both winning the IPL and the Women's Premier League (WPL) by RCB.

"RCB isn’t just a team; it’s a belief, a fire that burns in every heart wearing red, bold, and gold. 9 hours of hell, finally WPL/IPL. This is for you, RCB. "Your biggest supporter, Manoj," he wrote in a social media post.

The superfan of RCB overwhelmed for his iconic tatto

"This is our trophy in 18 years; keep celebrating and don’t stop. We have waited for so long. "Love you RCB, love you Virat Kohli," he wrote.

The IPL 2025 final was very close between RCB and Punjab Kings (PBKS). RCB won the final by only 6 runs. Shashank Singh emerged as the biggest threat of the RCB bowlers during the second innings. But, it was their night to shine; RCB, under Rajat Patidar's leadership and powered by Virat Kohli, claimed the long-awaited IPL title.

For long years, Virat Kohli had a huge dream of winning the Indian Premier League (IPL) trophy for the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). It came close in 2016 when Kohli’s superb run with the bat had nearly taken him to the title against the Sunrisers Hyderabad in the final. The dream, however, was fulfilled under Rajata Patiar’s leadership in the 2025 season.

But a video has gone viral on various social media where Virat Kohli and the former opening batter of the side, Chris Gayle, were seen on the roads during the victory parade, where they lifted the IPL trophy, along with celebrating the moment with thousands of fans around them.

In the bowling department, Josh Hazlewood was the leading wicket-taker with 22 scalps in 12 innings at an average of 17.54 and an economy rate of 8.77, thanks to the best figure of 4/33. Krunal Pandya was the peak of the spinners with 17 wickets in 15 innings at an economy rate of more than eight. Bhuvneshwar Kumar picked 17 wickets in 14 innings.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru finished the IPL 2025 campaign in the second position with the help of nine wins in 14 encounters at a net run rate of 0.301. They beat the Punjab Kings twice in the qualifier and the final to lift their maiden title.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has revealed its squad for the upcoming three unofficial ODIs against Australia at home. For the opening clash, Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s captain, Rajat Patidar, has been named the leader due to some notable players being absent due to the duties of the ongoing Men’s T20 Asia Cup 2025.

For the second and third games, Rajat Patidar will fill the role of the vice-captaincy to Tilak Verma, as Abhishek Sharma and Arshdeep Singh will return to the squad. The opening clash will be played on September 30 in Kapur’s Green Park Stadium before the second and third encounter takes place on October 03 and 05, respectively.

Prabhsimran Singh and Abhishek Porel have been selected for the wicket-keeping option along with Riyan Parag, Ayush Badoni, Priyansh Arya, Ravi Bishnoi, Gurjapneet Singh, and others. Most of these players are currently busy during the ongoing final round of the Duleep Trophy 2025 at the BCCI Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru.

This will be the first one-day fixture for the India-A side in more than two years, with the previous one taking place in the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) Men’s Emerging Cup 2023 final, which they lost to the Pakistan Shaheens. Abhishek, Parag, Harshit Rana, and Nishant Sindhu were part of those sides.

These games will be vital for the team’s selection for the upcoming three-match ODI series against Australia down under. Many expected Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli to feature in these A-games, but they are now expected to return only for the away series.

The title-winners of the 2025 season of the Indian Premier League (IPL), Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), blew away the Punjab Kings in the final at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad to show their dominance in what turned out to be a balanced season. For the entire campaign, they got the right playing eleven under the leadership of Rajat Patidar and head coach Andy Flower.

Bengaluru finished the group stage of the two-month campaign at the top spot, thanks to nine victories in 14 encounters at a net run rate of +0.372. One of the franchise's significant achievements was winning all of their away games in the season, which showed how balanced they were in every aspect.

In the last nine fixtures of the IPL 2025, Bengaluru collected seven victories with just one defeat and one abandoned clash against the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). Most of their squad looks settled, but they could need to leave a few players to fill the gaps.

Let’s take a look at the five players Royal Challengers Bengaluru might release ahead of the IPL 2026, featuring Liam Livingstone.

5. Liam Livingstone

The 32-year-old England spin all-rounder, Liam Livingstone, came into the RCB side during the last mega auction for INR 8.75 crore, as many predicted the lower order batter to smash the big shots in the death overs, but he couldn’t match the expectations and ended with 112 runs in eight innings with the bat at a strike rate of 133.33 along with one fifty.

Liam could go back to the auction and come back for Bengaluru at a lower price. After all, his experience of 7356 runs in 298 T20 innings at an average of 28.18 and a strike rate of 144.71, besides 143 wickets in 179 innings at an economy rate of 8.46, could be valuable for any side in the shortest format.

4. Rasikh Salam

The Bengaluru was keen to get the pace bowling all-rounder, Rasikh Salam Dar, for a huge price of INR 6 crore ahead of IPL 2025, but it turned out to be a horrible decision. The right-arm pacer featured in just two games for the franchise and collected one solitary wicket. In six overs across the two games, he leaked 70 runs at an economy rate of nearly 12.

With limited chances and not much impact of the pacer, Rasikh could prove to be one of the players in the list of RCB to get released ahead of the 2026 edition. With the kind of amount, it will be better to invest in some other options. Rasikh has 45 wickets in 36 T20 innings at an economy rate of 8.52.

3. Suyash Sharma

Playing for the Kolkata Knight Riders in 2023, the mystery spinner, Suyash Sharma, grabbed the headlines 2023, having picked up 10 wickets in 11 innings at an economy rate of just over eight. But, in the last season, the right-arm spinner collected eight wickets in 14 innings of the IPL for Bengaluru at an economy rate of just under nine.

Suyash came to the team for INR 2.6 crore. He had rare great performances, including the three wickets he picked against Punjab in the first qualifier, but for the entire season, he failed to find consistency and struggled to find the right line and length. That could put him among the released players for RCB.

2. Nuwan Thusara

Bengaluru signed the Sri Lankan pacer, Nuwan Thusara, for INR 1.60 crore. The plan was to keep him intact for most parts of the death overs or as a replacement for Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Josh Hazlewood. But both went through a fine season, making it hard for the Sri Lankan star to feature in the event.

Thusara played one solitary game in the last season of the IPL and picked up 1/26 in four overs. If they don’t want an extra player in that department, then it could be smart to release Thusara and go with other players in the auction.

1. Lungi Ngidi

The South African pacer, Lungi Ngidi, could be another bowler to get released by the Royal Challengers Bengaluru ahead of the IPL 2026. The right-arm pacer, who had a successful 2018 season with Chennai thanks to 11 wickets in seven innings, grabbed four wickets in two innings at an economy rate of over 10.

Ngidi has picked up 190 T20 wickets in 145 innings at an average of 21.34 and an economy rate of 8.37. Bengaluru could even think of releasing the pacer and bringing some other options in the department, which would make their title defense even more dominating for the 2026 season. Only twice have teams been able to successfully defend their IPL title, and the RCB side could be the third in the list.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) youngster Swastik Chikara recently opened up about facing online trolling during the 2025 IPL season. Despite not getting a chance to feature in any match, he remained a part of the squad’s historic campaign.

Rajat Patidar’s team finally ended their long wait for silverware, securing their maiden IPL title after 18 years. The triumph was a memorable moment for the franchise, its players, and loyal supporters who had been waiting eagerly for such glory.

Although Chikara spent the season on the bench, he acknowledged both the criticism and support he received from fans. He emphasized that being part of a championship-winning side was a valuable learning experience, motivating him to stay focused and prepared for future opportunities.

Swastik Chikara on Facing Online Trolling During IPL:

The 20-year-old cricketer drew attention during IPL 2025 for frequently being spotted near Virat Kohli, which led to trolling and jokes about him serving only as a “water boy.” Despite not making his debut, his presence around senior players was widely noticed by fans online.

Speaking about the criticism, Chikara addressed the matter during a podcast with CricXtasy, released on Sunday, September 7. He shared his perspective on trolling, explaining how he dealt with the comments while focusing on learning and growing as a young player.

Chikara said, “ Now tell me one thing. I wasn’t even playing, right? My job was to take care of the players, give them water, look after them, carry towels, or do anything else needed for the team. I just wanted to give my best, what’s the problem in that?”

He further said, “ That was my job, and giving water is a good thing. What’s wrong with that? At home, do you not give water to anyone, or wherever you are? In cricket, everyone gives water, who doesn’t?”

He added, “ For me, it felt great. I was giving water to the best players, the world’s number one player (Virat Kohli), with my own hands. He drank water from my hands. What could be better than that? I really enjoyed it, and he drank it.”

Virat Kohli shone as RCB’s leading batter, scoring 657 runs in 15 innings, showcasing his consistency and dominance throughout the season. His remarkable consistency included eight half-centuries, making him the side’s most reliable run-scorer throughout their historic title-winning campaign in the 2025 IPL season.

Swastik Chikara showers admiration on RCB captain:

Swastik Chikara praised captain Rajat Patidar, acknowledging his impactful leadership that guided RCB to their much-awaited IPL championship in his debut season as skipper, making the triumph even more remarkable. He highlighted the confidence and composure Patidar brought to the side.

Chikara pointed out that Patidar captained the team in 13 matches during the campaign, out of which RCB secured 10 victories while suffering only three defeats. He emphasized that Patidar’s leadership played a crucial role in shaping the squad’s winning mentality and overall success.

Chikara said, “ He showed really excellent captaincy. I mean, handling such a big team, and it was his first time captaining in the IPL, and he didn’t take any pressure at all. He managed everything very well, every decision happening in the match. It’s a huge thing, bro, and captaining RCB comes with its own pressure. The fan base is so strong that if you make even one mistake, anything can happen in two minutes.”

The former Royal Challengers Bengaluru captain and the stalwart, Virat Kohli, has looked back at the Bengaluru stampede case for the very first time since the tragedy, which took place on June 04 in the streets of Bengaluru. 11 people, present in the victory parade, lost their lives, and several were injured as chaos broke out outside the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium.

Suddenly, the happy faces turned into sorrow. What was meant to be a celebration for the fans and the team after the end of the 18-year drought of lifting the Indian Premier League (IPL) title quickly turned into tragic. Talking to the social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter, RCB shared Virat’s thoughts on the tragedy.

Kohli contributed immensely to RCB winning their maiden title of the IPL. The right-handed batter smashed 657 runs in 15 innings at an average of 54.75 and a strike rate of 144.71 with the help of eight half-centuries at the best score of unbeaten 73 runs. That was the third successive season of the league when the Delhi-born crossed the 600-run mark.

RCB could be left homeless due to the tragedy during the next season of the league. In several reports, it was stated that M. Chinnaswamy was unfit to hold the large public events. The report claimed that the design and structure of the stadium are inherently unsafe and unsuitable for mass gatherings.

On the other hand, Kohli completed his fitness assessment before the upcoming three-match ODI series against Australia down under. He underwent the test in London, which is a rare move from the BCCI to allow such a stance.
