<![CDATA[IPL Controversy: Why RCB escaped penalty after Suyash Sharma’s unusual move vs RR]]> https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/ipl-controversy-why-rcb-escaped-penalty-after-suyash-sharma-s-unusual-move-vs-rr/ https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/ipl-controversy-why-rcb-escaped-penalty-after-suyash-sharma-s-unusual-move-vs-rr/ Fri, 25 Apr 2025 11:11:54 GMT

During the IPL 2025 match between Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Rajasthan Royals (RR), Suyash Sharma's unusual fielding methods caught the attention of many RCB fans. In trying to field the ball, Sharma picked it up with his cap, which in usual circumstances would incur a penalty of five runs for the batting side. My contention is RCB was able to escape this penalty because the umpires had already called the ball dead, which made the action non-offending.

The case in question suggests that the ball was dead on the ninth over. Sharma was fielding as short third man, and by the looks of it, he was attempting to cap the ball.
Capping the ball or picking it up with a cap is a violation of law 28.2.1.2 and will not only result in monetary punishment, but the ball will be considered dead, and a five-run gift will be given to the batting team. The difference here is the umpires had already signaled for a dead ball; therefore, there was no punishment.

The on-field umpires talked with the third umpire to verify the events of the game. After the review, there were no penalties, so the game could go on without interruptions.

RCB Clinches First Home Victory in IPL 2025

Not taking the drama into consideration, RCB triumphed at home for the first time this season as they managed to defeat RR by 11 runs at their home ground, M. Chinnaswamy Stadium. Kohli continued his good form by scoring 70 runs off 42 balls, while Padikkal scored a rapid 50 runs off just 27, which helped RCB set a defendable total of 205/5.

Sportsbetting.ag wrapped up the RR innings at 194 and stood at 9 in their 20 overs.
The penultimate over was bowled by Josh Hazlewood, who put the brakes on the RR innings when they looked to sail to victory, giving away only one run and taking a stunning two wickets, thus winning the match for RCB.

Having won this match, RCB stood at third position in the IPL 2025 standings after this match, which showcased a stark improvement in their performance at home and hopeful RCB fans for the playoffs.

<![CDATA[Cricket fraternity unites to slam Pahalgam attack – Powerful stand against terror]]> https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/cricket-fraternity-unites-to-slam-pahalgam-attack-powerful-stand-against-terror/ https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/cricket-fraternity-unites-to-slam-pahalgam-attack-powerful-stand-against-terror/ Wed, 23 Apr 2025 08:06:30 GMT

On April 22, 2025, a tragic terrorist attack took place in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, resulting in the deaths of 28 people, most of whom were tourists, in the beautiful surroundings of Baisaran Valley, commonly referred to as "Mini Switzerland." The attack was carried out by The Resistance Front (TRF), which is a splinter group of Lashkar-e-Taiba, and was one of the worst attacks since the 2019 Pulwama attack and was targeted at civilians. This attack claimed 24 Indian tourists, two locals, and two foreigners, with more than 20 people reported as injured. The global cricketing community demonstrated a rare and extraordinary act of solidarity as players, boards, and fans sided with the victims and their families and condemned the attack on civilians, stood against terrorism, and expressed a united front.

Indian Cricketers and IPL Teams Lead Tributes

Indian cricketers, both current and past, took to social media, particularly X, really expressing their sadness and anger and supporting peace and the bravery of security forces. Virat Kohli, who captained India previously, tweeted, "Devastated with the news from Pahalgam. My heart goes out to the families of the victims. Violence has no place in our world. Praying for peace and strength for all those affected." Sachin Tendulkar, a cricketing icon, tweeted, "Shocked and saddened by the inhumane act in Pahalgam. My deepest condolences to the victims families. India tands united against terrorism." Gautam Gambhir, India’s head coach, demanded justice, posting, “Praying for the families of the deceased. Those responsible will pay. India will strike. #Pahalgam.”

Virender Sehwag lamented, "Deeply pained to hear of the indecent terrorist attack on innocent tourists in #Pahalgam. Prayers for the injured." Irfan Pathan, who was in Kashmir just before this attack, said, "Every time an innocent life is lost, humanity is lost. This pain feels too close."

IPL teams also condemned the violence. Chennai Super Kings (CSK) expressed, "Deeply saddened and shocked… Our hearts go out to the families of the innocent lives lost in Pahalgam." Delhi Capitals (DC) expressed, "Heartbroken by the tragic loss of lives in Pahalgam. Our thoughts are with the families of the victims. #StandAgainstTerror." Rajasthan Royals (RR) stated, "Devastated by the senseless violence in Pahalgam. We stand united with the victims and the families and are praying for peace." Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) wrote, "Shocked by the horrific atrocity that took place in Pahalgam. Our deepest condolences to all the families affected. Violence has no place in our society." Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) wrote, "Deeply pained by the tragedy of Pahalgam. Our prayers are with the victims and their loved ones." These posts... dedicated to the victims and families and posted on X... are a demonstration of the commitment by IPL to unity in opposition of terror.

Indian Cricket Board and Fans Respond

Messages also poured in from international cricketing organizations and players. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) released a statement: “The BCCI mourns the loss of lives in the Pahalgam attack and stands in solidarity with the victims and their families. Cricket is a sport which unites the masses and we are firmly against such divisive, violent acts.”

Fans from around the globe took to social media using tweets like #StandwithPahalgam and #CricketforPeace and made cricket forums into places of memorials. The attack, which targeted a tourism hotspot, struck a nerve with cricketers who had seen and appreciated and felt humbled by Kashmir that intensify their emotions. It also sparked debates on India-Pakistan cricketing ties, with Goswami’s views reflecting broader frustrations.

The IPL is known for creating superstars and delivering unforgettable performances, but every season also sees its share of underwhelming displays — especially from those expected to shine. IPL 2025 has been no different. While some players have risen to the occasion, a few big names have failed to live up to their billing, letting down fans and franchises alike. From misfiring batters to bowlers lacking impact, these players have struggled to find form, consistency, or match-winning influence. With the playoff race heating up, their poor performances have become glaring. Here's a look at the IPL 2025 Flop XI — a team composed of some of the biggest disappointments so far, proving that reputation alone doesn't guarantee success in the IPL arena;

Top Order

The openers for Flop XI will be Quinton De Kock and Rohit Sharma. Quinton de Kock has played 7 matches in IPL 2025, scoring 143 runs at an average of 23.83 and a strike rate of 137.50. His highest score is an unbeaten 97, and he has registered one half-century so far, hitting 9 fours and 11 sixes across his innings. On the other hand, Rohit Sharma has featured in 7 matches so far in IPL 2025 but has managed just one notable knock — an unbeaten 76*. With a total of 158 runs at an average of 26.33 and a strike rate of 154.90, his form has been underwhelming, despite his lone impactful innings. The number three spot will be of Rahul Tripathi has played 5 matches in IPL 2025, scoring just 55 runs at a disappointing average of 11.00 and a strike rate of 96.49. With a highest score of 23 and no major contributions, his form has been underwhelming, managing only 6 fours and 1 six across his outings.

Middle Order and All-rounders

The number four spot will be taken by Venkatesh Iyer. Iyer was one of the most expensive picks in the IPL auction, but his performances so far haven’t lived up to the hype. In 8 matches, he has played 6 innings, scoring 135 runs at an average of 22.50 and a strike rate of 139.17. Despite one half-century, consistency is missing. The number five spot will be taken in by Nitish Kumar Reddy Reddy has failed to leave a strong impact in IPL 2025. In 7 games, he’s played 6 innings, scoring 131 runs at an average of 21.83 and a strike rate of 113.91. With a top score of just 32 and no half-centuries, consistency has been missing. The number six spot will be taken by Rishabh Pant. Pant was the most expensive player of IPL 2025 at ₹27 crores, has failed to justify his price tag. In 9 matches, he has scored just 106 runs across 8 innings, with a below-par average of 13.25 and a strike rate of 96.36. His only notable knock was a 63-run effort.

The number seven spot will be taken by Glenn Maxwell. Maxwell has had a forgettable IPL 2025 so far. In 6 matches, he’s batted in 5 innings and managed to score just 41 runs, averaging a disappointing 8.20 with a strike rate of 100.00. With no fifties and only one six to his name, the Aussie star has struggled for form. The number eighth will be taken in by Liam Livingstone. Livingstone, too, hasn’t delivered up to expectations. In 7 matches and 6 innings, he’s managed only 87 runs, averaging 17.40 with a strike rate of 127.94. Despite having a fifty to his name, his overall returns have been underwhelming for a player of his caliber.

Bowlers

Mohammed Shami has had a forgettable IPL 2025 so far. In 7 matches, he has bowled 24 overs, conceding 261 runs and picking up just 5 wickets. With a high average of 52.20 and an economy rate of 10.87, his best figures stand at 2/28. He's struggled to make any real impact this season. Matheesha Pathirana has been expensive and inconsistent in IPL 2025. In 6 matches, he has bowled 21.4 overs, conceding 226 runs while taking 7 wickets. With an average of 32.28 and an economy rate of 10.43, his best figures are 2/28. Despite flashes of brilliance, he's struggled to maintain control and impact. Ravichandran Ashwin has had a forgettable IPL 2025 so far. In 7 matches, he has bowled 24 overs, conceding 223 runs and picking up just 5 wickets. With a high bowling average of 44.60 and an economy rate of 9.29, his best figures this season are 2/48, reflecting his underwhelming form.

History was scripted at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium on April 19, 2025, as 14-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi became the youngest cricketer to debut in the Indian Premier League. Representing Rajasthan Royals in a high-octane clash against Lucknow Super Giants, the young prodigy showcased incredible talent and composure well beyond his years. Fans and cricket pundits alike watched in awe as Suryavanshi stepped onto the field, etching his name in IPL history with confidence and flair rarely seen in players so young.

Brought in as an Impact Player for captain Sanju Samson, Suryavanshi entered the RR innings at a crucial juncture during their run chase. He made an unforgettable first impression by smashing his very first delivery—bowled by Shardul Thakur—over extra cover for a stunning six. The young left-hander continued his aggressive approach with a series of elegant strokes, quickly making headlines. His bold stroke play in a pressure scenario left everyone—from commentators to teammates—singing his praises.

Suryavanshi ended his debut innings with a quickfire 34 runs from just 20 balls, which included two crisp boundaries and three massive sixes. His fearless display instantly won over fans in the stadium and on social media, who were taken aback by his maturity and batting prowess. Despite the pressure of a big match, he played with a calm mindset and a powerful intent, giving Rajasthan Royals a much-needed boost and becoming a beacon of India’s next-generation cricket talent.

Emotions Overflow After Heartbreaking Dismissal

Just when it seemed that the young man was set for a record half-century, his innings ended in despair. Playing against Aiden Markram in the ninth over, Suryavanshi moved down the pitch for another big shot. But the ball turned past his bat, and LSG skipper Rishabh Pant had no hesitation in getting a sharp stumping done. The third umpire validated the dismissal, and the young batter was seen to be heartbroken.

As he made his way back to the dugout, Vaibhav was unable to suppress his feelings. TV cameras recorded the sobbing debutant wiping away his tears, a scene that immediately went viral and touched hearts across the cricketing world. Suryavanshi's knock was historic even though it fell short of a half-century. He became just the tenth player in league history to hit a six off the opening ball of their career, and his three sixes were the second-most by a player on their IPL debut. Despite the poignant conclusion, Vaibhav Suryavanshi's daring debut has already cemented his place in IPL history. He has already demonstrated at the age of 14 that he has the temperament and skill to succeed on the biggest stage, and this is undoubtedly only the start of an incredible journey.

Before the Rajasthan Royals’ important match against Lucknow Super Giants in IPL 2025, head coach Rahul Dravid spoke to the media to clear up rumours about a fight between him and captain Sanju Samson. The rumours started after a video showed Sanju not joining a team huddle during a recent match. Some people believed this meant something was wrong between the coach and the captain.

However, Dravid strongly denied these reports. “I don’t know where these stories are coming from. Sanju and I are on the same page. He is a very important part of the team, and we have a good bond,” Dravid said in the press conference. He also mentioned that Sanju is involved in every decision and discussion. Dravid said sometimes when a team loses, people start making up stories, but there is no truth to them.

Dravid also talked about how hard the players are working and how much they care about their performance. He said that even though criticism is normal in cricket, false stories hurt the team. “When things go wrong, we accept the criticism for our performance, but not for things that aren’t true,” he said.

Meanwhile, Sanju Samson’s injury is also a concern. He had to leave the field during the last game against Delhi Capitals after feeling pain in his side. He had scored 31 runs before retiring hurt. The medical team sent him for scans, and the team is waiting for the results to decide if he can play the next match. Dravid said, "Sanju experienced some discomfort in his abdominal region. He has got the scans done, and once we are aware of more, we will take the correct decision."

Apart from all the gossip and the scare of the injury, Rajasthan Royals are keeping their eyes set on the next match. Dravid's statement indicates that the team is one that is together and determined to perform at their best. They are hoping to continue their good season and strive for a spot in the playoffs.

In a nail-biting IPL 2025 showdown at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi Capitals edged past Rajasthan Royals in a Super Over thriller that had fans on the edge of their seats. With RR setting a target of 11 in the Super Over, DC’s KL Rahul and Tristan Stubbs chased it down with two balls to spare. However, what sparked more debate than the result was RR’s puzzling decision to send Shimron Hetmyer and Riyan Parag to bat in the Super Over, leaving out the in-form duo of Nitish Rana and Yashasvi Jaiswal.

Nitish Rana, who anchored RR’s innings with a brilliant 51 off just 28 deliveries, addressed the media after the match to shed light on the team’s strategy. Despite being one of the standout performers, Rana was not selected among the top three Super Over batters. He candidly spoke about the call, acknowledging the management’s decision but also hinting that the team might revisit their choices in similar situations going forward.

“The management takes the call, not one person. The captain is there along with two other senior players and coaches. If Shimron Hetmyer had hit two sixes, then you wouldn’t be asking this question. I will give the same answer. I don’t have any other answer. Whatever decision we took was right. Hetmyer is our finisher; everyone knows that,” Rana said.

Rana defends the team’s tactical choices despite fan criticism

Rana also defended the move to give the Super Over ball to Sandeep Sharma, rather than the more seasoned Jofra Archer, repeating that cricket is an outcome-based game where hindsight is commonly behind criticism. "One individual never makes such decisions. Management and support staff are present to talk about these kinds of things. If the choice was in our advantage, then your query would have been different," he mentioned.

Rajasthan Royals had agonizingly nearly won, requiring 9 runs for the last over before Starc's brilliance subjected the match to a Super Over. Poor judgment cost run-outs of Parag and Jaiswal in the Super Over, limiting RR to a sub-par 11. That was not enough as Delhi kept their nerve to win two vital points and regain the top spot with 10 points from six matches.
