The Betway SA20 has officially unveiled its Team of the Tournament following a thrilling Season 4 that delivered high-quality cricket, dramatic finishes, and several standout individual performances.

Unsurprisingly, Sunrisers Eastern Cape, the reigning champions, dominate the XI with four selections, reflecting their all-round consistency throughout the tournament. Pretoria Capitals, who finished runners-up, contribute three players, while Paarl Royals earn two spots after another competitive campaign. MI Cape Town and Durban’s Super Giants are represented by one player each. Notably, Joburg Super Kings miss out entirely.

Only two overseas players feature in the side: Sherfane Rutherford, whose explosive batting kept Pretoria Capitals alive in crucial moments, and Sikandar Raza, who became a fan favourite at Paarl with his match-winning all-round displays.

Markram leads star-studded XI as de Kock, Rickelton and Baartman headline standout performers

The team will be led by Aiden Markram, who found form late in the season for Durban’s Super Giants and played one of the standout innings of the tournament with a sublime century at Kingsmead.

Behind the stumps, Quinton de Kock enjoyed a renaissance season for Sunrisers Eastern Cape. The veteran opener topped the batting charts with 390 runs at a strike rate of 148, while also producing exceptional glovework. Ryan Rickelton once again underlined his consistency, crossing the century mark twice and extending his record as the leading run-scorer in SA20 history.

The bowling attack is spearheaded by Anrich Nortje, back at full pace after injury setbacks, and Ottneil Baartman, who finished as the leading wicket-taker with 20 scalps, including a memorable hat-trick and five-wicket haul. Spin duties fall to Keshav Maharaj and Sikandar Raza, both of whom delivered control and wickets in pressure situations.

The selection panel comprised a star-studded group of former internationals and broadcasters, including AB de Villiers, Kevin Pietersen, Eoin Morgan, Dale Steyn, and others.

Dewald Brevis]]> https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-analysis/top-5-ipl-2026-stars-who-shined-in-sa20-2025-26-ft-dewald-brevis/ https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-analysis/top-5-ipl-2026-stars-who-shined-in-sa20-2025-26-ft-dewald-brevis/ Mon, 26 Jan 2026 21:39:56 GMT

The SA20 2025-26 ended when Sunrisers Eastern Cape (SEC) defeated Pretoria Capitals (PC) in the final played at Newlands Stadium in Cape Town on Sunday, January 25. In the first innings, PC batted first, scoring 158 runs for 7 wickets in their full quota of twenty overs, with Dewald Brevis contributing a sensational 101 runs scored off of 56 balls, including 8 fours and 7 sixes. Despite this impressive effort from this young man, he could not guide Pretoria to a huge total. His innings not only showcased his ability to hit the cricket ball long distances but also demonstrated his ability to maintain composure under pressure; the T20 scouts, as well as fans, are excited about Dewald's potential ability, and rightfully so.

After losing four wickets within 48 runs, SEC was also in early trouble. Matthew Breetzke and Captain Tristan Stubbs came together to form an unbroken partnership of 114 runs off of 64 balls, leading the way for SEC to win the match. Stubbs scored 63 not out off of 41 balls while Breetzke made 68 not out off of 49 balls. After the tremendous effort of the pair, SEC was victorious by 6 wickets with 4 balls remaining, winning SEC’s third SA20 title in four years. Now that the tournament is over, we are excited about the performance of several of the players that stood out during this tournament when they play in the IPL in 2026.

1. Dewald Brevis

Dewald Brevis

Dewald Brevis has emerged as one of the most exciting young talents in global T20 cricket, and his performances in the SA20 2025‑26 have catapulted him into the spotlight ahead of IPL 2026. Nicknamed “Baby AB” for his elegant stroke play reminiscent of AB de Villiers, Brevis dominated bowling attacks throughout the SA20 season with brutal hitting, impeccable timing, and fearless intent. His ability to maintain a strike rate well above 150 made him invaluable to Pretoria Capitals, and his batting exploits caught the attention of IPL scouts and franchises alike.

Brevis didn’t just score runs in the SA20 — he did so with consistency and impact. Whether it was setting the tone at the top of the innings or accelerating in the death overs, he showed a complete range of T20 batting skills. The aura he generated in SA20 is a strong indicator of how he could flourish in the IPL’s electrifying atmosphere. His power hitting, innovation against all types of bowling, and comfort in high‑pressure situations make him one of the most intriguing prospects for IPL 2026. Expect teams to rely on his bat for quick starts and explosive middle‑overs fireworks.

2. Aiden Markram

Aiden Markram

Another SA20 star turning heads ahead of IPL 2026 is Aiden Markram. A seasoned campaigner who led Sunrisers Eastern Cape with authority, Markram blends tactical maturity with batting dynamism. In SA20 2025‑26, he was among the top run‑contributors and provided crucial innings at key moments. His capability to build innings while maintaining a healthy strike rate makes him particularly suited for IPL conditions, where balance and adaptability are vital.

Markram’s credentials go beyond runs; he’s a proven leader with experience in various T20 leagues around the world. This leadership facet enhances his value in the IPL, where teams constantly seek players who can marshal resources and guide younger talents. With solid technique and experience handling pace and spin alike, Markram’s confidence and consistency will make him a key IPL performer. His all‑around game has the potential to influence matches, making him a player to watch once franchises kick off their 2026 campaigns.

3. Marco Jansen

Marco Jansen

Marco Jansen has proven that his SA20 success translates to IPL value. Known for his tall, intimidating presence and ability to extract bounce, Jansen was a standout with both bat and ball, making him a genuine all‑round asset. Across the SA20 2025‑26 season, he delivered breakthroughs with disciplined seam bowling, and also contributed runs when needed — a rare combination that IPL franchises gold‑rush for.

In a league where bowlers who can keep the runs down and still chip in with bat form the backbone of balanced sides, Jansen ticks both boxes. His left‑arm pace offers variety, and his knack for picking up crucial wickets at pivotal moments boosts any side’s bowling depth. Moreover, a lower‑order batting capability gives teams flexibility, making him a standout SA20 performer ready to tackle the rigours of IPL competition. Jansen’s continued development could make him a game‑changer in the 2026 season.

4. Anrich Nortje

Anrich Nortje

Anrich Nortje’s SA20 2025‑26 campaign showcased his return to peak rhythm after battling injuries. With raw speed consistently flirting with the upper limits of pace bowling, Nortje terrorised batsmen and claimed a clutch of wickets that proved decisive for his team. His ballistic bowling style — hitting hardest at the start and during death overs — is something IPL franchises value immensely.

Nortje’s ability to run through strong batting lineups in SA20 signals he can do exactly that in IPL 2026. Fast bowlers who can deliver in crunch moments and sustain pressure are often IPL match‑winners, and Nortje’s rhythm and aggression make him a potent weapon. If he stays fit and maintains his lethal form, Nortje will likely bolster any IPL bowling attack, bringing speed, skill, and menace to the crease — especially on batting‑friendly Indian pitches.

5. Sherfane Rutherford

Sherfane Rutherford

Sherfane Rutherford enjoyed an impressive SA20 2025-26 campaign, emerging as one of Pretoria Capitals’ most consistent batters. The West Indies left-hander featured in 11 matches and scored 334 runs across 10 innings, averaging a remarkable 66.80. His attacking intent stood out, reflected in a strike rate of 165.34, while two fluent half-centuries underlined his ability to combine power with control. Time and again, Rutherford provided stability in the middle order and accelerated when required, making him a vital contributor to Pretoria’s run to the latter stages of the tournament.

Rutherford’s strong showing in South Africa has set the stage for an exciting IPL 2026 season. The Caribbean batter will turn out for five-time champions Mumbai Indians, adding depth and firepower to their batting unit. He previously represented Gujarat Titans during the 2025 IPL season but was traded to MI ahead of the 2026 auction. With his recent form and growing experience in global T20 leagues, Rutherford will be eager to make a significant impact in Mumbai’s star-studded lineup.

Sunrisers Eastern Cape on their third SA20 title in four years with a stunning six-wicket victory over Pretoria Capitals at Newlands in Cape Town as the 114-run unbeaten fifth-wicket stand between captain Tristan Stubbs and Matthew Breeztke, both of whom celebrated their respective half-centuries, got the better of Dewald Brevis’ century, which was the lone hand of Pretoria Capitals who made only 158.

When PC, the runners-up of SA20 first season, restricted SEC to 48/4 in the ninth over of the second innings, putting the required run rate to nearly 14 runs per over, they had one hand on the trophy. But the two unbeaten batters of the Sunrisers, with a record stand, stole the memorable victory from the jaws of defeat.

Matthew began the charge when he lofted Lizard Williams over mid-on for a boundary of the second bowl of Williams final over before giving strike to the captain, who hit Williams over extra cover and passed the strike back as the former finished the over with a magnificent boundary through square leg to take 14 runs of that over and reduced the equation to 42 needed of the last three overs.

Sunrisers Eastern Cape wins SA20 2025/26 under Tristan Stubbs

Stubbs has been excellent with his performance as he got a call-up to South Africa’s T20 World Cup 2026 squad, despite struggling for form throughout the season, as his 63 unbeaten knock was his first half-century in the format in 51 innings since his 76-run knock against the West Indies in August two years ago.

Overall Eastern Cape had another season for the books as they kept their record of reaching the finals with their new signing, Quinton de Kock, finished as the leading run-getter with 390 runs while another accusation, Anrich Nortje, was the second on the list of wicket-takers as Marco Janssen’s 13 wickets this season has left him one behind Oatmeal apartment as the most successful bowler of the league.

Meanwhile, a word should be spoken for Brevis, who smashed a fine knock of 101 runs in just 56 deliveries at a strike rate of over 180, with the second best score of the Pretoria Capitals being 30 in the scorecard.

Brief Score: Sunrisers Eastern Cape 162 for 4 (Breetzke 68*, Stubbs 63*, Maharaj 1-23) beat Pretoria Capitals 158 for 7 (Brevis 101, Jansen 3-10) by six wickets.

Led by Tristan Stubbs, the Sunrisers topped the points table after the league stage, recording five wins, three losses, and two no-results. The two-time champions enter the playoffs on the back of a dominant seven-wicket victory over MI Cape Town, underlining their consistency and momentum at the business end of the tournament.

Pretoria Capitals finished second in the standings with five victories and four defeats from their 10 league matches, with one game washed out due to rain. The Capitals head into the Qualifier brimming with confidence after winning four of their last five outings. Sunrisers Eastern Cape (SEC) will face Paarl Royals (PR) in Qualifier 2 of the SA20 2025-26 on Friday, January 23, at The Wanderers Stadium, Johannesburg. The winner of this match will book a place in the final.

Sunrisers Eastern Cape are coming into this clash after losing to Pretoria Capitals in Qualifier 1. Despite the setback, the SEC have been one of the strong teams this season and will look to bounce back quickly. A win here will give them another shot at the title and a chance to return to the final.

Paarl Royals booked a place in Qualifier 2 with a comfortable victory over Joburg Super Kings in the Eliminator. Thus, the Royals are in a decent form in pressure games and would be pretty confident about keeping the winning momentum running. They know that one more victory will take them into the final, making this a high-stakes contest.

Paarl Royals (PR) will face Joburg Super Kings (JSK) in the Eliminator of SA20 2025-26 at the SuperSport Park in Centurion on Wednesday, January 22. The winner of this high-pressure clash will move on to face the loser of Qualifier 1, while the losing team’s campaign will come to an end.

Paarl Royals finished the league stage with five wins from 10 matches. Rain played a part in one of their games against the Super Kings, and back-to-back losses towards the end stopped them from finishing in the top two. Led by David Miller, the Royals will now look to reset quickly and deliver a strong performance when it matters the most.

Joburg Super Kings had a stop-start season. They began the tournament with three straight wins and later added an important victory against Paarl Royals in their final league match. Two of their fixtures were washed out, which affected their points tally. With experienced players in their lineup, JSK will aim to make full use of this second chance in the knockouts.

PR vs JSK: Pitch Report

The pitch at SuperSport Park has provided a level contest between the bat and the ball this season. Out of four matches played here, teams batting first and chasing have won two games each. The new ball could assist fast bowlers early, making powerplay overs very important.
